@PinkWatermelon88 @Emmaev another sleep deprived mother of a 5 month old here. I have decided it's my favourite age. He is so damn cute and squishy. I just want to hold him all the time. And last night he learned how to roll front to back too so now he can properly roll and roll as much as he wants. So he spent 40 minutes rolling all over our giant bed and giggling. It was the best thing ever. 😍

His sleep got a lot better after sleep training, only waking for a feed once or twice but that lasted about 10 days until he got a stomach bug. He had diarrhea and didn't eat for 3 days so when he got better, he was mega hungry and I obviously wanted him to get the calories. So he still does a good stretch 7pm - midnight but then wakes every 2 hours for a snack. He's so cheeky, he's not hungry at all. I don't let him have a full feed, I cut him off after a minute and he's happy, it's like he's just making sure my boob is still there.

PinkWatermelon88 · 31/01/2025 21:39

@HuggingAnIcePack887 @Emmaev oh I’m so glad to hear you are also both in the same boat!! My friends in the real world are asking why she’s not STTN yet and even tho i remember from my first how silly the notion even is it’s also reassuring to hear you’re living the same reality. She’s still so small, almost newborn still, the thoughts of her being mature enough to STTN is just bonkers.

In saying that, a few more unbroken hours wouldn’t go a miss though 😂😂

Im delighted you’ve got a roller Hugging… my girl is close but not quite. I’d say within a few weeks.

Emma mine is showing no interest in weaning, it’s great yours is. Will you wean from boob too or just add solids? I always said I’d get to 6m BF then see (did 16m with my first) but this one is so breezy and content on the boob the thoughts of a bottle are putting me off haha!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 31/01/2025 22:57

@PinkWatermelon88 I have to go back to work at 7 months 😫 everyone keeps telling me it's ok to stop breastfeeding but I really really don't want to. It's going well, my baby loves it, it's a great tool to settle him. He takes a bottle but only when he's mega hungry, so I don't know what we will do. Ideally I would pump at work and breastfeed morning and evening but I don't know if babies are OK with that?

WinsandSam · 01/02/2025 05:53

Hi all,
Isn't it crazy how quick they're growing! Ruby is 4 months and so far this is my favourite age. I love her laughs, giggles, how she watched me constantly and lights up when I come back into a room. Adorable.

Sleep wise, we had 4 weeks of hourly wake ups and crib refusal.. must have been a regression. Luckily she'll now go in her crib but I often bring her in the bed in the early hours. She certainly does not sleep through and needs feeding through the night! But, we're back to 2-3 wakes a night which is more manageable

Still EBF here too.. although it's great and she loves it I do wish she'd take a bottle so I can do the off thing alone. Hoping when she's 6 months and eating I can maybe have 3 hours. She is also interested in food- watching us eat constantly, everything going in her mouth, wanting to sit up but can't do it alone

TripleESept24 · 08/02/2025 10:24

Hi all,

Esme is 4.5 months and also very interested in watching us eating!! And everything goes to the mouth! She gnaws on my knuckles so much proper biting down and I can see where her teeth are in her bottom gums! She's also nearly rolling and sitting quite well if she sits forward supporting herself on her hands.

Her sleep pattern has been very regimented. She will go 4 hours and that's it. So bottles have been 4 hours through the night and she wakes for them but then goes right back in her crib. But last night we had a random night where she just wouldn't settle kept waking every couple of hours and was in and out of my bed 😭

I can't wait to start weaning! We are going through so much aptamil now she's on 210ml (7 scoops) it goes so fast! And she is still having boob cuddles all tho just for comfort as my milk supply was just never there! I get tiny droplet's still if I squeeze (like I did when pregnant) lol, but she loves it for comfort. I'll stop tho I think once she's eating solids and sleeping better x

It's sad that this group has really come to an end. I don't think I could have survived pregnancy without you all 🫶🏼 hope you and your little ones are well and thriving (with minimal sleep) x

Much love to everyone !!! 🥰❤❤❤

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 20/02/2025 01:01

I have so much love for everyone in this group!!!! Saved my sanity! What a whirlwind, having a baby really is something else! I've had so many ups and downs!

I actually said to DH i could have another baby now I know I can survive the first 6 months. For a long time, I thought I wasn't going to ever sleep again (haven't had an 8 hour sleep yet but I'll take only 2 wakes a night for milk as a win so far)

kc92 · 20/02/2025 13:26

@WinsandSam likewise! I joined close to the end of pregnancy, & this thread was a lovely support to scan through in all the early night feeds. ❤️ I barely use Mumsnet anymore, but I just logged in during a contact nap, & this plus a thread for babies due in 2023 popped up on my feed. I thought it was lovely the parents are still chatting.

@HuggingAnIcePack887 so delighted that you're getting some sleep now! In my experience baby #2 is so much easier. Mine was a brilliant sleeper, but his first tooth has literally just popped today and the poor pet has been in bits with it. Hoping we might get back to 1-2 wakes a night eventually. 🤞🏻

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 20/02/2025 13:39

@kc92 I had a long overdue catch up with a group of close friends, who don't have kids yet. They asked me if baby boy is sleeping better yet (last time they saw me were in the middle of hourly wakes up and I was broken). I happily said yes, he's brilliant, sleeps through the night really well and only wakes up twice for a feed at around 2 and 5 am. They were HORRIFIED 😂

PinkWatermelon88 · 21/02/2025 03:29

I loved this group and am sad to see it so quiet …: but can totally understand how it’s happened. Life with smallies is rough! I’m writing this as my little girl has been awake most of the night for the second night running with a head cold. Nothing I give her is easing it. Hope she gets some rest soon (and me too!). Big love to you all ❤️

It is sad! This group and all you ladies really helped all the way through the pregnancy and the early days post birth!

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I'm with you, I think I could do another one... Not yet 😆🫣 but would like them fairly close in age!!

Esme was 5 months old today 🥰..... Has anyone started weaning yet? We are thinking of starting a bit before 6 months in a couple of weeks as she seems ready to me! Everything goes straight in her hand to her mouth!! She watches us eat so interested and she's sitting pretty well (not 100% there but nearly!)

Here she is today holding her little plaque 🥰 I hope everyones coping a bit better now! And getting more sleep!

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 21/02/2025 23:55

@TripleESept24 we started weaning at 5.5 months. Paedetrician said don't delay if they can sit (with assistance) and are interested and can grab things. She said you don't want him to get left behind, don't start too late. She said either 6 months OR when they can sit. So if you get to 6 months, try anyway. Ideally by 9 months they should be on 3 meals a day and drop 1 or 2 milk feeds!

My DS LOVES food. We've only done veggie purees, some oats, will give him some bolognese tomorrow. He ate like half an avocado yesterday and wanted more 😂it has made him quite constipated and I am mourning the loss of the milky poos. His poos are so gross, they make me gag every time.

I don’t know why all the weaning guides introduce broccoli and cauliflower early. It made him into a stinky fart machine. And I have to listen to him fart all night now 😂

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 22/02/2025 13:11

I just came on here for the first time in ages and saw this group again! So nice to hear you're all getting on well! My girl is 5 months old tomorrow - I can't believe it! I ordered some ikea highchair accessories yesterday and all the weaning stuff. Though she's definitely not ready for weaning anytime soon, I am waiting until 6 months anyway then will see what she is like then. She still just seems so small for her age! She is only a 9th centile baby though and still in 0-3 clothes as well. She had started sleeping through too but we've been hit with a cold the last couple of days so the last 2 nights have been rough!

@TripleESept24 she is soooo cute!!

TripleESept24 · 22/02/2025 14:09

@HuggingAnIcePack887 yeh we definitely feel she will be ready very soon we go on holiday Wednesday so going to start when we get home the following week 😃 I can't wait!!

@BeautyAndTheBump1 ahhhh bless her with her cold hope she's better soon!!

Has anyone else's started REALLY fighting naps in the day? Here we are at 2pm.... She's been fighting a sleep all morning. Had her bottle fell asleep, transferred her to her crib and PING awake again and now just chatting away to me. It's so hard to get her down for a sleep now in the day unless she's on my boob and settled on me

Emmaev · 22/02/2025 16:22

I can’t believe how big these babies are getting!
Indie is 6 months at the start of March. She was born on the 30th but it’s a 28 day month 😂
Im prepared for weaning, been trying Indie in her highchair and just giving her empty bottles to explore. She’s been EBF until this point so I’m unsure how she’s going to feel about a bottle. We’re trying her with formula for the first time tonight.

Indie still isn’t sleeping through the night, but can only hope weaning may help. Who knows haha

TripleESept24 · 22/02/2025 18:43

@Emmaev awwww let us know how she gets on with the bottle.

Esme is still fighting the nap..... She went to sleep at 3.50pm for half an hour. 😵‍💫 She's literally had half an hour all day 😵‍💫

Emmaev · 22/02/2025 20:04

@TripleESept24 it was an absolute fail. She spat any formula that came to her mouth out. Boob it is then!

Wondering how we’ll manage when I go back to work and she’s so boob hungry 🫣

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 22/02/2025 20:08

@Emmaev when do you go back to work? I have to go back when he's 7 months exactly. I have no choice, we live abroad and this is all I'm entitled to (employer has thrown in an extra month for me). I am planning on pumping but I have no idea how much he'll need to eat and how to manage that. He does take a bottle (just not from me, I cannot even be in the house 🤣).

WinsandSam · 22/02/2025 20:53

Also excited to start weaning in a few weeks! Although not really sure what I'm doing.

@TripleESept24 yes, naps in the day are either in the boob, in the pram or the car. She will scream if rocked to sleep 🤪

@Emmaev we are also not sleeping through and never have. Tbh we're probably worse than ever, last night was every 90 mins. She used to do a 5-6hr stint at the beginning but that's gone to shit 😂 give me strength. Also hoping weaning helps but not too hopeful.

Would love baby to take a bottle but she's having none of it!

kc92 · 23/02/2025 01:34

@HuggingAnIcePack887 think I put my cousins off ever having kids by being honest about how often I'm up at night too. 🤣 On my first, I went back to work at 9 months. I sent him to his minders with 2 expressed bottles, one for each nap. Pumping is hard when you're at work tbh, though doable. If you have extra parts for the pump so you don't have to sterilize mid day, it can help. Do you have to go back to the office or WFH?

We started weaning at 5 & 1/2 months too, and so far he loves it! Started with fruit purees and poached fruit slices this time, because I did the veg on my eldest and he hated it. Though I think he was just too boob obsessed for weaning to be a success anyway! @WinsandSam hoping it helps sleep here as well. I miss that 5-6 chunk so much it huuuuurts.

@PinkWatermelon88 hope your little one is feeling a bit better? I pulled my eldest out of nursery last month, because we had 8 viruses back to back since November. Shattered doesn't describe it.

@Emmaev fair play to get this far EBF! I was far too tired this time to even consider it. The odd bottle of formula is the only reason I haven't melted in to a puddle of sleep deprivation.

@TripleESept24 how does she have so much hair still?! Cradle cap robbed most of my DSs! Any tips welcome. 🤞🏻

@BeautyAndTheBump1 jealous of your sleep! We haven't been in 0-3 months since 6 weeks - sometimes I wish my DS looked more like a little baby so I'd get more sympathy from relatives about how hard this is. 🤣 I genuinely think people forget his age because the shock when we mention the lack of sleep, or that he's not crawling yet is real. He's got about a month left in 6-9 I'd say.

TripleESept24 · 23/02/2025 13:18

@kc92 we haven't had any cradle cap 🤞 she did thin out a bit but it's all come back now apart from her patch on the back of her head where she lays down! So sorry no tips 🤷‍♀️😥 we do brush her hair with the soft brush after her baths, and we don't use any product on it 😚

Emmaev · 23/02/2025 22:09

@HuggingAnIcePack887 im hoping to go back the first week of June (if my a/l gets approved otherwise it’ll be mid May) feels way too soon even though it’s not for a bit. I don’t feel ready at all so I can only imagine how you feel

@WinsandSam oh I feel you. Indie is a different gal entirely to our first born who was and still is an excellent sleeper. Indie is up maybe every 2/3 hours 3 hours being very lucky. 1 hour being very unlucky. She constantly needs boob to settle back down. I’ve tried to introduce a Muslin but that offers no comfort. She won’t take a dummy. Won’t take a bottle or formula. So there’s no break, I love her dearly but what I wouldn’t give for 4 hours of uninterrupted sleep haha

@kc92 the sleep deprivation has been intense, I feel like I’m living in a bubble some days, I’m not with it at all. I wanted to go 6 months EBF but we’re now almost there and she won’t take anything else. So I think we’ll be going to a year and then cows milk. I have heard that formula from a sippy cup works for some breastfeeding babies so I’ll try that. But I’m not holding out much hope. She’s been absolutely disgusted with us offering formula haha

WinsandSam · 24/02/2025 07:42

@Emmaev we also have a bottle, dummy, comforter refuser.. so also trapped 24/7. Little monsters. She's been doing 3hr sleep stints this weekend but I'm never hopefull it'll last

PinkWatermelon88 · 24/02/2025 22:50

@kc92 i use the Frida mom comb on my smallies cradle cap and with a bit of La Roche-Posay Cicaplast it cleared up in no time!!

I’ve the few bits to start weaning but I’m so afraid. My first was brilliant for the first year but got the vomiting hug and has never regained her appetite or curiosity around food. She’ll be 3 in June and lives mostly on pasta and rice …. So I’m traumatised 😂 But I will start her this week. She’ll be 24 weeks Thursday!!

im so done with bf, she had a cold all week and so is feeding so much more and im getting touched out. She loves her bottles and will have one a day but rarely has 2. Weaning will be so hard!! Hoping to get her out of my bed and into a cot too but almost hesitant to buy the cot incase she’s like her sister and won’t get out for 2 years 😂🙄
