My poorly girl is unwell. She has a horrible cheery cough and is throwing up in her sleep. Lots of phlegm is making her gag. I keep crying as so worried but she seems unloaded by it

kc92 · 26/11/2024 13:54

@WinsandSam ahh that's so rough! The first cold for my boy nearly broke me too - he seemed so little!! The chesty cough is probably nasal drip? There's a ton of saline sprays on the market for baby noses but I found the best one was sterimar, because its a continuous spray. Helped us get a little sleep without phlegm coming up. Still haven't found a good nose sucker though. 🙈

kc92 · 26/11/2024 16:40

Potty training my 2 year old this week and it has been rough. 🫠 We have things on literally every week for the next 2-3 months, so it had to be now, but I'm close to an existential crisis trying to care for a 2 month old at the same time. On day 5, and it seems like all the amazing progress we made so far has quite literally gone down the toilet today. And I would have waited until he turned 3 if I realized my DH was on call for work this week. He's amazing when he's here, but he's only been here to sleep and shower for the last few days. I'm incredibly jealous and irrationally mad. 😅

WinsandSam · 26/11/2024 22:07

@kc92 yes definitely a snuffly nose which isn't helping her phlegm. GP wanted to see her today and said it's a virus but to keep and eye. She's chirpy when awake but is mostly asleep all day. She even slept 12hrs and only woke once at night 😳 might take a look for the saline spray if you think it'd help. How long was your little one poorly for?

RosiePH · 27/11/2024 16:47

@kc92 I am not 100% sure if GPs in all trusts can prescribe Neocate as I think some say it has to be a consultant decision annoyingly. Probably because it’s really expensive.

@HuggingAnIcePack887 unfortunately DS couldn’t latch, even after his tongue tie appointment so breastfeeding isn’t an option. I did pump for a while but it was so hard to find time around feeds, sleeps, nappy changes that I was only ever getting enough for one to two feeds a day.

We’ve now got a prescription for infant gaviscon after phoning 111 over the weekend. This has helped the reflux but is causing some painful poos for him! We’ve also got our peadiatric consultant appointment details through now… for when he’s 6 months old! Considering booking a private appointment now, although I don’t know if my GP will prescribe based on a private appointment.

@WinsandSam hope she feels better soon! I am dreading these first few colds!

PinkWatermelon88 · 27/11/2024 19:44

Thanks for all the love and support this week friends after my wobble. Things improved as the week went on and after a few really honest and open chats with my partner. We are all getting a bit more sleep, but not in the cot... yet! I keep trying, it has to happen soon right?! Lol. Had some super challenging behaviour from my 2.5yo this week, scratching both my face and the babies face.... so that's been tough to try manage?! Good luck with the potty training @kc92 you're a braver woman than I lol

WinsandSam · 28/11/2024 17:05

@PinkWatermelon88 so pleased that things are a little better for you 💕

kc92 · 28/11/2024 20:49

@WinsandSam hope your little one is feeling a bit better? Hate to say it but two weeks before mine was fully right again. 🙈 And just as he got better I got sick so the sleep did not improve!

@RosiePH probably way different in Ireland, but I went private for suspected intolerances with my first when he was a little over a year. So quick and thorough. Our paediatrician could also prescribe and order blood tests, which was a god send.

@PinkWatermelon88 glad to hear things are looking up. 🩷 & honestly do not know how you have both of them home full time tbh - have had my 2.5 yr old home to toilet train, and dear god I am tired to the bones. He's back in playschool tomorrow & as nervous as I am about how the transition will go without nappies, I'm very excited to have a morning semi off!

WinsandSam · 29/11/2024 09:42

@kc92 I think she's going to be ill for a while. Cough is still the same, snotty nose, sick due to gagging etc. luckily she's in good spirits when awake. Having her vaccinations today poor girl. Best to get out of the way rather than wait until she feels well and then make her feel more poorly again

FuppinNora · 29/11/2024 11:16

Hope you are all doing OK, I don't know how ye are doing toilet training etc on top of the baby, I feel like I'm still in the early weeks.

Still going 3 hours at night and only catnapping during the day. I think I've made a huge mistake putting him on the Aptamil pepti, his reflux seems to have gotten worse and he is crying more so I think it is reflux giving him the pains and not an actual intolerance. He is still straining very hard to go to toilet - massage is helping. GP has really pissed me off, he was so dismissive, I ended up speaking to another GP who listened and offered advice but probably wouldn't have put him on pepti first but advises to keep going for now on it as have started the process. Back to her on Wednesday.

Hope your LO gets better soon @WinsAndSam and good luck with injections!
@kc92 I've now become addicted to vinted and I really need to stop or start selling 😂

kc92 · 29/11/2024 12:25

@WinsandSam you probably have advise on sick babies coming out your ears so scroll past if you're tired of it! 🙈 Vapour Oils in a diffuser helped us clear his nose before bed and get at least one semi good chunk of rest. Think it was the Essential Kids brand, it was the only one tested from birth. I think you can use Olbas Oil from 3 months though? I had the diffuser right next to his bath, and gave him a soak every night to try shnuck everything out of his nose. Also rubbed a little snuffle balm (which is my fave baby product!) on my own boob before feeding, so it was a little bit higher than his nose but never touching his skin. Helped clear him out while he was having milk. I found the emptier we kept his nose, the better all his symptoms were, and it stopped him getting gunky eyes too. I was saline spraying before most feeds and before bed.

Hope vaccines go well for you. 🤞🏻

@FuppinNora that's so frustrating!! And good for you for advocating for your baby so well.

I need to delete vinted off my phone but french baby Christmas jumpers are so cute I CAN'T stop.

WinsandSam · 29/11/2024 18:08

@kc92 actually haven't been given loads of advice so thank you!! Don't have a diffuser but will get something to help her. We're doing baths and bringing her in the shower to steam it out

Those jabs were HIDEOUS 😭 poor baby screamed so badly and couldnt be consoled. Dread the next ones!

TripleESept24 · 29/11/2024 20:54

@WinsandSam Esme screamed, but did stop as soon as they gave her the drops.

Anyone else's babas been grouchy days after?? She had Jabs Monday afternoon 3pm was fine I thought first 24 hours slight temp but not too grouchy she has been more grouchy the last few days can it come later in the week!!??

Also want others opinions and advice please? I used to take apple cider vinegar, sea moss and milk thistle supplements before pregnancy I have months supply..... I am barely breastfeeding now (she goes on a couple times a day if that more for comfort/my milk supply wasn't good!)So she's formula fed now! Would I be ok to start my supplements again? 🤔

WinsandSam · 29/11/2024 21:22

@TripleESept24 poor Ruby has been waking and screaming ever since, even with the calpol. Not going to get much sleep tonight!

I take collagen and breastfeed, haven't really looked into it. Wanted to take it to help c section recovery

When did ruby have hers?? She's been the worst today really crying, cried even in her pram on a walk and that normally calms her down!

I feel honestly like she's getting so little from my boob now surely it's not going to effect her in any way like if she was exclusively breastfed 🤔

WinsandSam · 01/12/2024 17:08

@TripleESept24 she had hers on Friday. Still crying during the day, usually when doing a poo. Guess that's the rotavirus drops.

We've been to out of hours gp overnight due to her coughing so hard she vomits and chokes. Very scary!!

What a cutie @TripleESept24 great head control too 😍 how old is she?

Can anyone that heats bottles give me advice on how you heat on the go? Since changing formula he prefers heated, I'm not always going to be in a cafe etc. (Do they even allow you to heat bottles?)Sometimes I'm feeding in car while waiting for DS1 and I'm also out and about for maybe 2 bottles.

Hope all your LOs are on the mend after their injections.

TripleESept24 · 03/12/2024 05:26

@FuppinNora she's ten weeks 🥰

kc92 · 03/12/2024 10:00

@WinsandSam that sounds so scary! How is she doing now?

@TripleESept24 she is a CUTIE 😍 Amazing head control - good reminder I need to do more tummy time!

@HuggingAnIcePack887 @PinkWatermelon88 how are things going for you both this week?

@FuppinNora gah I literally just saw an ad for a portable bottle warmer on an insta story! I can't remember for the life of me where though. 🙈

In today's mini rant - baby boy is doing well and hitting another growth spurt - but I've gotten my second cycle so unfortunately Aunt flo is here to stay. I was very much hoping that it'd be a once off last month. He cluster feeds so much during it to keep my supply up, that I actually fell asleep during a root canal yesterday. 🫠 Who knew 90 minutes of dental surgery would feel like a break?!

I'm also now firmly in the camp of "why are you breathing so loud?!" whenever my husband is within a ten foot radius. 😂 He's tired too, but dear God he's cranky when he's tired, and I don't have the emotional bandwidth to have sympathy for him right now.

WinsandSam · 03/12/2024 10:07

@kc92 luckily she's improving after 10 days. Stilll coughing but no sick today 🎉 although her tummy is still messed up post jabs and has gone from 4 poos a day to none in 24hrs 😭 she was awake until 2am last night due to being uncomfortable

@TripleESept24 my little one will not do tummy time. Just cries

Newborndaze · 03/12/2024 11:08

@WinsandSam tummy time doesn’t have to be on a mat or play gym or even the floor. I fretted so much with my first, he hated it and I persevered for so long and really wish I’d not stressed both of us out so much! Spending time on your chest looking up at your face is just as effective! Also a favourite of my youngest now is leaning/lying on my shins. I prop my feet up on the sofa, legs together and knees up and lean his tummy against my shins holding his hands so his head is above my knees and he loves that.

HuggingAnIcePack887 · 03/12/2024 14:13

@kc92 we're ok. I'm finding it hard. I only have myself to blame really. I genuinely thought that at 14 weeks things would be easy and I'll do some exercise, go for some coffees, have a little weekend away with baby. Nah 🤪 We've cancelled our weekend away, cancelled all socials, and DH had to take a sick day to be with me and baby as I can't cope by myself day in, day out.

The broken sleep is really getting to me. Baby woke up at 10pm, midnight, 3.30, 5, 6 and 7am. I can't believe it, he slept like a dream weeks 7-10.

DH is doing this annoying thing where he's great for a while, then he's not, then we have a massive blowout, then he's great again but I'm sad and exhausted from the arguing and any nice thing is overshadowed by the fact I had to argue with him for help. So there we are.

Oh and baby just managed to roll himself to his front but can't roll back so that's a terrifying development. On the other hand he's giggling properly which is incredibly cute.

kc92 · 03/12/2024 17:40

@HuggingAnIcePack887 I could have written that with my first baby so I really really sympathize. You're finding it hard because it is hard - incredibly hard. Does he want milk every time he wakes up or can you fire him at your DH to settle? 🙈

I wish I could say something that could help with the DH part of it - the mental load is one of the most exhausting parts of parenting IMO. I know mine really stepped up around the 6 month mark first time around - once our DS was on solids and moving he came into his own as a dad. He's now firmly the favorite parent which kills me with jealousy is great. Really hope yours cops on soon too. 🤞🏻Until then feel free to vent - I find typing it all out very therapeutic.

And what a strong boy to be rolling that early!! Whenever they learn a new skill sleep tends to go out the window, hopefully it'll settle soon for you! Mine is a happy little lump, and barely moves yet but we did get a giggle yesterday for the first time.

@Newborndaze great idea for tummy time - going to try that one. Mine will only tolerate it on my chest so far.

WinsandSam · 03/12/2024 21:19

@Newborndaze thanks! The shin thing is a great idea. Even if on my chest she cries and doesn't lift her head. Worry we've left it too late. Like I say, she can hold her head up a lot of the time just not in the tummy position
