Hi everyone, hope you're all getting on well.

I had a private gender scan on Sunday afternoon... We've got the results in an envelope waiting for my Step-Sons to visit during half term. It's really hard knowing the answer is in the house so OH has hidden it 😂

We also got a 4d sneak peek at their face, and it's switched my allegiance to team girl! I'm not sure what it was, but there was something more girly about their little features. Still can't believe there is an actual baby in there, after 5 years of disappointment it just doesn't feel like real life 🥹

Had my 16 week midwife appointment this morning (at 16+6) and was a bit underwhelmed to be honest! She couldn't get her computer to work, so wrote my BP etc down on a paper towel (not even a note book!), and she'd forgotten her doppler so I didn't get to hear baby's heart beat.

I'm also booked in for 4 weekly growth scans from 28 weeks until 40 (if I get there). In our case it's because that's normal procedure for an IVF pregnancy here. When I asked why, they explained it's because IVF babies tend to be small... Even though I measured 5 days ahead at my 12 week scan 🤔 I think the system can be very "computer says no" at times, but absolutely not complaining about the opportunity to see baby a few extra times!

That’s so funny- I was told ivf babies measure bigger than usual if they were a 5day and smaller if they were a 3? Had a long discussion with my doctor before transferring because I wasn’t sure about a big baby when I’m so small!

Ellsx6 · 08/10/2024 16:21

@RaineyNina so it was actually the midwife/consultant appointment I had at 13 weeks who decided I should go on blood thinners due to family history and stuff so I've never had anal bleeding before them hence why I took myself to a&e as I was quite worried and wondered if it was that causing them which then they appointed me back to the midwife as they were the ones in the decision making who then led me to the gp and that situation is over now but then it's like another thing that I'm getting fobbed off about again and getting no support from my midwife. Tbh I just wanted some reassurance from the midwife to know if intense headaches were normal or something serious😅 Thankyou for your help x

Ellsx6 · 08/10/2024 16:25

@GlitteringCat also 20 weeks in a few days and I've felt baby atleast a few times a day for the past week but sometimes not strong enough unless I lay down in a quiet room and focus on trying to feel him to actually feel it I can't wait for them to get stronger and more frequent it's the most crazy thing knowing there's a baby in there kicking around I'm still in disbelief! X

I see, it sounds like a decision made based on your VTE risk assessment (clot risk). Very frustrating you were just passed from pillar to post! They wouldn't have caused the bleeding but they can make bleeding worse/more obvious. So if you cut yourself it's likely to bleed more and just plenty of pressure on it, any unexplained bleeding is usually a trip to the GP to find out why. Hope it's settled in the meantime, but if not push absolutely pushed to be reviewed! X

@26dX thank you for your message :)

@Ellsx6 thank you as well :) the anxiety doesn't affect my day to day as such, but it's certainly making me get extra scans and worry a lot, I'm also a doom googler which is how I found out about incompetent cervix, I was having some cramps the other day and got myself all worried. But I called triage and they were lovely and helpful.
I'm sorry you're having such a stressful time with your midwives/care, it seems crazy to me that they won't see you even when there's a worry about pre-eclampsia and your home blood pressure is high. I really hope you are able to see someone soon and get some reassurance!

Ellsx6 · 08/10/2024 19:19

@Paperboats until around 17 weeks I was having weekly private scans to help my anxiety but now I can feel him moving even though it's not really strong yet I feel so so reassured that he's okay and my anxiety has dropped hugely. The best advice ever is just do not google. If in doubt call triage or midwife (given yours aren't like mine and actually help!) I feel like google always has worse case scenarios popping up and it scares me so I don't even bother looking anymore! I can't wait to be 20 weeks so I hopefully have more options of help when I have a problem!🤣i seriously thought after I'd hit 12 weeks I'd be so relaxed but just never did. Hopefully when you can feel baby you'll be more relaxed xx

I’ve been having panics about goats cheese I accidentally ate on holiday. Basically as soon as I arrived I had a goats cheese sandwich without thinking and then googled it. It turns out you shouldn’t eat goats cheese with a rind due to listeria. I found out last night it probably did have a rind and been feeling a bit panicky that I could have accidentally gotten listeria 🫤🫤 it’s been about 4/5 days since and no symptoms but once it’s in your head it’s hard to shake! And google says up to 30 days for symptoms 😣

Ellsx6 · 08/10/2024 21:03

@GlitteringCat I've been eating things like salami Camembert McDonald's McFlurrys and things like that before I realised I shouldn't be and I've been fine. I just knew about the typical no rare meat ect but not specific things that I had been eating!

veggiebuns · 08/10/2024 21:32

@GlitteringCat I would say majority of women end up having something you probably shouldn't during their pregnancy. You just can't beat yourself up and panic over an accident.
In my first trimester I took a nice hefty bite of a brie, because I simply hadn't got into the full swing of pregnancy and everything you have to think about.

To settle me down, my friend reminded me of all the things people do before they know they're pregnant! I wouldn't expect those people to beat themselves up and I would tell them not to panic, and to take what comes. It's no different for you now xx

My friend is French and she can’t believe we get told here not to eat certain cheese, pate and cured meats. She said pregnant women in France are just told to cut down on wine (not give up completely 🙈) and stop smoking - that’s it.

I think the studies about listeria were from the 1970s and were minimal anyway, very low odds.

Yeah funnily I’m actually from a French place (only been in uk about 9 years) and it is fairly similar like you’re not really told to stop it. Although are told to stop alcohol completely! I think I just get a bit anxious because NHS really push it and talk about miscarriage etc. My understanding is that packet sandwiches and salads are higher risk than cheese though. I just keep telling myself people at home aren’t as fussed by this, eat it every day and I don’t know a single person whose had listeria. I’m just a bit of a worrier 😅

Ellsx6 · 09/10/2024 14:18

Is there anything we can do when ill and pregnant? Lemsip nope. Cough sweets - contact doctor. Vicks (consult doctor) olbas oil - contact doctor. I'm not contacting the doctor for a mild cold I'm not on deaths door!🤣 my throats in bits which is what I'm struggling with most😫 the congestion part is liveable!

lipgoss · 09/10/2024 14:29

@Ellsx6 I got myself some soluble paracetamol and made it up into hot squash - like a homemade lemsip without the extra meds that make it not allowed. A squeeze of honey for your throat and I found it was about as good as it got! Normally I'd be dosed up on everything going, but it was quite a good substitute!

Lulub94 · 09/10/2024 14:33

@Ellsx6 a hot blackcurrant is my go to drink when I have a cold, helps to sooth a sore throat amazingly well. If struggling with congestion could try head over bowl of boiled water to clear some of the congestion. Hope you are feeling better soon.

LV1987 · 09/10/2024 15:26

@IMBCRound2 that is interesting! I think the truth of it is that gynae/obstretics who don't specialise in fertility treatments probably just don't know 🤷‍♀️ It would be like me trying to do the conveyancing work on someone's house - it's similar to what I do, but not the same.

Odd though that we've been told opposite things! My IVF clinic said there is no conclusive evidence either way, and I think that's probably correct. I'm not sure why the babies would be either bigger or smaller? Maybe the increased progesterone levels from all the cyclogest bum bullets 😂

AdventuresInMothering · 09/10/2024 16:55

@GlitteringCat try not to worry, it's very unlikely you'll have any problems. If it makes you feel better I've eaten sushi 5 or 6 times in this pregnancy already - kept craving it during first trimester when most foods were turning my stomach and I figured eating sushi was better than eating nothing or just biscuits! Lots of healthy protein & fish oils!

it made literally no sense to me at the time …. How could just a matter of hours make such a big difference?! FWIW- my daughter is TINY and she was a 5 day embryo.

Those bum bullets - I do not miss those at all. Surely with all the science involved they could have invented something more pleasant!!

so happy we’ve made it to our little ones 🥰🥰🥰

Hot salt water gargle? You can also get a saline nasal spray which is supposed to help- you can DIY it but need to make sure you do a hard water boil for at least ten minutes to make sure the water is safe.

Does anyone else just want to hibernate?

Was looking forward to first weekend with nothing on for 4 weeks

Only for DH to inform me just now we are going to yet another event to do with his family!

Just want to cry, feels like I'm expected to just get on with everything as normal, same at work

Ellsx6 · 09/10/2024 20:28

@PlumpHobbit yep. First weekend in ages that I've had no work..no plans or commitments and DH decides to tell me his mum is coming to stay for the weekend to go baby shopping together. Lovely of her but no thanks I need the pure rest and sleep😫😕 feel guilty cancelling because she asked him about this last month and he 'forgot' to say!🥲 also feel like I can't rot around properly if we have someone staying over!🤣

Glad it's not just mine seeming completely oblivious to our need to rot! I'd planned to just rot on the sofa both days, now I'm going to have to go and have to socialise with his very loud family when I just want to get into my bed and curl up with my hot water bottle and rot

They definitely need to invent something that makes men have to experience all the internal symptoms 😂 mine has generally been good but for the love of God man let us just have a rotting weekend!

Ellsx6 · 09/10/2024 20:54

@PlumpHobbit mine always says why are you so tired already.. you tell me? Growing a set of organs bones you know all of that?!🤣 he's been good also but doesn't understand why I'm tired or why I need days to rot away and always loves to be busy😅😒

Is yours mine 😂 mine doesn't do rotting either and has to be busy!

People at work keep saying "you'll soon get that burst of energy"

I just can't see it, I feel like I'm resigned to being a zombie permanently!

Ellsx6 · 09/10/2024 22:12

@PlumpHobbit I was knackered to extreme lengths in first trimester week 14 had my energy back and since then the tiredness has been worse than I could've imagined😫

Works extra busy this time of year too so getting less rest and doing more it's taking a toll on my body too I ache everywhere everyday now😣

Wondering when the pregnancy glow comes..my belly's rapidly growing too I feel ginormous 😅

Yep! I’m just bloody exhausted 😂 husband has had three days off in six weeks, if not slightly longer, and one of those, we were at a wedding, which is lovely but y’know exhausting! So I’m just trundling along, balancing work (albeit self employed, from home) with a lively toddler who’s obsessed with his dad but only really sees him if I take him to various fields across the countryside while also looking after the dogs, horses etc, plus my son has had a few (not serious!) hospital appointments etc recently so I’m just tired 🤣
And I got my hopes up this morning because DH referenced being off work Sunday… before I realised it was for a long standing commitment to a family birthday party which is an all day type job. Kill me 😂
My little boy starts preschool Monday, only two half days a week, but I feel quite emotional about it. Until now, it’s just been us two pretty much all the time and I’ve absolutely loved it. He’ll love preschool and it’s the sensible next step for him, but I just feel sad.
In a way, I feel guilty for having a whinge because I am so unbelievably happy to be pregnant but I suppose I can be both, tired but happy!
