Hi all,
Sorry I haven’t posted much, we’ve been pretty quiet about this pregnancy!
Can I ask for some advice?

16 weeks yesterday and suddenly had red PV blood on wiping last night. Ended up in antenatal ward, speculum showed a closed cervix and old blood.
Scan today was okay, happy moving baby with no issues. Again no cause for the bleeding.

Reassured by that but no one knows why I’m bleeding. It’s still there, light and red on tissue but darker than fresh blood in general. Otherwise I feel well.

Anyone had similar that came on this late and have any causes?

PlumpHobbit · 11/09/2024 22:06

I still haven't felt like sex, never had a huge drive anyway, think early on was because I could barely summon the energy to get off the sofa, and also didn't want to disturb anything but still no urge

Also, baby cooperated (almost to the point of being too wriggly) at Mondays repeat scan and we got the measurements, they've sent the bloods off for screening apparently no news is good news and you'll hear quickly if there's any issues - I'm frantically looking on Badger notes (where would I find it?) but how soon do we think is quickly and I can start thinking we are OK?

Really want to tell people, but would want further tests if the results were concerning

veggiebuns · 11/09/2024 23:31

@PlumpHobbit I was told at our scan yesterday if there was anything concerning I'd be contacted within 2 days, but usually the following day. And if everything was okay it would be within 10 days on my app! Which seems like such a long time!!! She said my NT measurement was looking good and explained the range they like to see it in, so that's given me some peace of mind there, but I imagine a lot of people don't even give you that level of information just in case! Which is so tricky being completely in the dark!!

I did get a missed call from a random number today and it sent me loopy panicking! Turned out to be a car insurance scam😂

IMBCRound2 · 12/09/2024 08:04

i got told up to a week for the bad news call (we’re rural and it has to go to a bigger hospital ) … and then that hospital had a critical incident with their blood department so it’s even more delayed. The wait is AWFUL.

Ellsx6 · 12/09/2024 09:37

Are we allowed to use hot water bottles? I am not in pain it's purely just because I have a long one that I lie between my legs when its cold and it holds the heat in my blanket and so cosy I don't want to let it go🤣😅 woke up last night and it had shifted up to my belly. Didn't feel hot anymore by the time I found it on my belly but is this a risk I should be taking or get rid?

Lulub94 · 12/09/2024 09:45

I got a call yesterday with my blood results, having had them taken exactly a week before hand. My risk of downs/patau's is low but I have got low PAP-A levels which means I will go onto consultant led care and have closer monitoring later on into the pregnancy, due to increased risk of low birth rate and pre-eclampsia. Slightly concerning and was upset after phone call but keep telling myself that it doesn't mean something is definitely wrong, just higher risk. Feel like I've got through the stress of waiting for the 12 week scan and now there is something else to worry about.... but trying to stay positive.

ChristmasJumpers · 12/09/2024 12:29

I had my Gestational diabetes test yesterday which came back clear, then my 16 week midwife check up today. Gave her a urine sample and it's come up as +2 sugars (the level usually required to test people for GD!).
No idea how it could be fine yesterday and worryingly high today, but she's recommended having my urine tested again in 4 weeks at my 20 week ultrasound. Hoping for the best as I reaaallly don't want GD again and was so happy to get the all clear yesterday

How soon before did you eat? I spiked mine really high for one of my tests and it was because I’d eaten too soon before the test and it may not have been the healthiest of breakfasts!

I hadn't eaten before but did have orange juice, hopefully that's what is was but my midwife disregarded it when I brought it up!

IMBCRound2 · 12/09/2024 12:51

Consultant just approved my home birth!!!! I went into that meeting ready to battle because the consultant for my last pregnancy was not a fan of unmedicated births and she was just on-board!

Just got to keep my iron levels up and baby growing strong but what a relief!

veggiebuns · 12/09/2024 14:51

Anyone have any recommendations on things I can get to make an office chair more comfortable? I work in an office and pre-pregnancy absolutely LOVED my office chair, it's nicely padded, has a good recline(which I know isn't actually good for you), but recently the lower back pain has really hit me! I'm only 12 weeks but it's becoming a constant.

I know my work would be more than happy to get me some bits to help, I just don't know what would actually help. I keep it upright now, but do I need a back support? Or something to lift my feet slightly? I just need to know how to relieve it even a little bit!!

Ellsx6 · 12/09/2024 15:44

@veggiebuns also wondering the same. I'm only doing part time atm so crave the days off just to not sit in that chair!

lipgoss · 12/09/2024 15:54

@veggiebuns @Ellsx6 I'm already sitting on a birthing ball rather than a desk chair when I'm working from home - apparently it distributes your weight more evenly so can help with back pain, and has added bonus of improving posture and strengthening your core, which should all be beneficial as we get further on ☺️

I had exactly this last week, missed call from private number (so I couldn't even ring them back!) and spent the rest of the day panicking. I phoned the hospital but they were totally unhelpful and couldn't tell me anything except "you get a letter within 2 weeks", I asked her to clarify if it's always a letter in 2 weeks or if they call people sooner if results are bad, and she literally said "oh I dunno..." 🙄 that was nearly a week ago and I haven't heard anything by phone or post yet (or had any more mystery private number calls!) so I'm just hoping no news is good news

PlumpHobbit · 12/09/2024 19:13

It's the horrible waiting, and the limbo of can we or can't we tell people yet, plus wanting to know everything is OK

I've not heard yet, been looking on Badger app but nothing

Mine took 11 days to arrive via post. I don't have notes apps with my trust it's all written. My midwife said you'd get a call within 3 days of the bloods being drawn if it was bad news..

veggiebuns · 12/09/2024 19:42

I think I'm actually going crazy but the last few days, I have been feeling VERY pregnant 😂 it's like as soon as I had the 12 week scan and saw everything was still as it should be, it all kicked in - I think maybe I'd been suppressing things until I felt more at ease?!

I'm so achey, and am so unfit? A walk around the house or popping upstairs quickly and I'm breathless!! It's crazy because it's still early so I feel like I'm putting it on!

I have noticed a definite growth spurt in my bump so I'm hoping my body just needs to adjust and catch up - can't be struggling along like this for next 6 months 😂

IMBCRound2 · 12/09/2024 19:47

I've had similar! They called me the day after screening to say I had antibodies showing so need them re-done, had them done and they called me this week and they said they had missed sending them away to Bristol for checking the levels! So had them done AGAIN yesterday. Got a telephone consultation with consultant on Wednesday, I assume to explain levels and then an onward plan.

Have they booked you in again for bloods?

Not yet - there was some sort of critical incident at the hospital they got sent to and it looks like mine got caught up in it. I spoke to my consultant today and she was just like ‘ well I guess you can see at your 20 week scan’ - and I was so stressed because the appointment was two hours later than it should have been and I’d only taken hour off work that I just didn’t push back enough - obviously spent the whole day crying about it - thank goodness I was WFH today.

Im going to contact my midwife tomorrow and see if they will re-do them - but I’m worried that now I’m 14 weeks it’ll be too late! I really don’t want to have to pay £500 for an NIPT test but I honestly don’t see an alternative right now - there’s no way I can’t wait until my 20 week scan.

Got the results of my nipt back today so finally feel like I can join this thread (I've been following for a while!). Due on March 28th and a first time mum at 37. Found out today we're having a little boy so it's all feeling very real all of a sudden.

I don't think it would be right to make you wait til 20 weeks, the reason why you're screened in the beginning is to check on everything so more monitoring can happen if needed? Def phone midwife, and maybe ask for screening midwife. That's the team that called me and were pushing for me for me to have re-done asap. It would take 5 minutes for them re-do your bloods and give you so much reassurance.
I work at a hospital over road from maternity so just popped over on lunch. Keep us updated - hope you get on OK!

Sorry I've just re-read and realised it's your 12 week bloods. Mine have come back for that but still not my original booking screening bloods
