I’m feeling extra anxious and like @PlumpHobbit my first 12 week scan didn’t go to plan … measured smaller etc. went in on Thursday and I’ve now been referred to fetal medicine.

essentially I’m measuring 11 days behind now … baby has a small body and huge head ( it was also super curled up so no measurements could properly be taken).. they went ahead and did the screening/combined test which I’ll have the test results for on Monday. Fetal care responded straight away and called yesterday also for an appointment for Monday. I’m in total bits and preparing mentally for a medically assisted abortion. Just in total shock

Ellsx6 · 07/09/2024 15:10

@PlumpHobbit so I think the nt measurement can only be done before 14 weeks or it's inaccurate because of the size of baby by then..I may be incorrect just from what I've heard. I use ultrasound direct for my private scans and the lady who scans me is amazing. Baby wasn't cooperating today and she spent 25 minutes getting him to move to go through anatomy with us even though the scan time we paid for was only 10 minutes. I'm not sure if it means the quality of the equipment is better but my private scan photos are way more in depth and clear than the 2 nhs I've had

Ellsx6 · 07/09/2024 15:18

@Moomoo20 I'm so sorry to hear that i cannot even imagine how you feel. Be kind to yourself🤍

Onthedouble123 · 07/09/2024 15:22

@Patientlywaiting7 that sounds horrendous and the waiting will just feel like an eternity.
Is it possible the curled upness was making the body seem shorter? Did they tell you there was a size difference or just what you picked up on?
My sister's friend was referred to fetal medicine and convinced all was lost. But her baby turns one (either today or tomorrow, I'm not sure).
Look after yourself.
Sending you strength to deal with whatever you have to face next but really hoping it's just a stressful wait for some reassurance 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻 xx

Patientlywaiting7 · 07/09/2024 15:26

@Onthedouble123 that is such amazing news - I’m genuinely so happy to hear success stories for others - I think this whole experience has just made me want happiness for everyone. It’s so hard - I’m in just such a bad place

on the first scan I was measuring 41mm - equivalent to 11 weeks 1 day (I should’ve been 12+3) - baby ws upside down and refused to budge after walks etc.

was asked to go in the following week (6 days later) and this time it was on its back but curled up. Measured 50mm - 11w5.

it’s the big head and small body - she mentioned that it could be down to the curled up position… but this is twice in a row.

the care provided was really amazing - I was in the scan room for over an hour and had walks etc - 2 sonographers assessed me as well - so kind, I thought they’d just turn me away.

thanks for your response ❤️means a lot !

Patientlywaiting7 · 07/09/2024 15:28

@PlumpHobbit I forgot to mention - really try to push for a second scan - it’s absurd to make you wait 8 weeks! Totally nuts. Sending love and light 💚

Jellybelly888 · 07/09/2024 15:46

@Patientlywaiting7 sorry to hear you’ve had a stressful scan. My DS scan (he’s 6 now) at 8w was totally normal and then at 12w he had a disproportionately large head to his body. I was under fetal medicine and rescanned at 16 weeks and the proportions had evened out a bit more. By 20w he was ‘normal’ measurements and when he was born, his head was a normal size.

It’s good they’re seeing you on Monday, I know this weekend will be really hard but try not to google and things because there’s so many different outcomes for babies and pregnancies. Xx

Patientlywaiting7 · 07/09/2024 15:51

@Jellybelly888 thank you so much for your response. You have no idea how much it means to me. That’s really amazing news ❤️ and huge congratulations to you. I’ve messaged like 10 people on my WhatsApp already saying it’s not going to work out and that I’m getting ready for some kind of D&C. I’m literally all over the place. I’m all googled out - I actually haven’t found any posts with small body and big head so reading some happy stories is really really helpful. Thank you for showing me that kindness ❤️❤️❤️

horchatatresleches · 07/09/2024 16:13

@Moomoo20 that's devastating, so sorry to hear that 💔 Be kind to yourself 💖

Ellsx6 · 07/09/2024 16:55

@Patientlywaiting7 has anyone recorded baby's heartbeat and seen how many bpm? This can tell a lot early on as they have a 'normal' range supposedly for each gestation

Oh yes all normal. About 153. Sonographer said anything between 140-160 is good.

Not when she was scanned but when she came out (and subsequently) she’s always been very low centiles for height/weight (currently 0.5%) and around 50% for the head . I just like to tell her she’s got lots of brains!

i will say that the only other person i know with a child this small has been constantly monitored with extra check ups and specialists - but me worrying and bringing her in, they’ve just said she’s just a tiny tot and absolutely fine and no one has done anything further

I go to ultrasound direct too and find them pretty good! My scans from there are a lot clearer than NHS ones too. Paid for pim to get little videos too which is nice. The lady who did my 6 week one at ultrasound direct did my 12 week NHS one which was sweet!

Ellsx6 · 07/09/2024 17:20

@Patientlywaiting7 that's a good sign. I hope baby's just small and everything's healthy!🤞🏽

@IMBCRound2 im not sure if I lost half of your message but I don’t understand?? Did you mean to say you had small measurements? Sorry!

She measured smaller on scans- but I’m quite small so they weren’t worried - however after she was born she was around the 2nd percentile and then dropped to the 0.5th where she stayed ever since. Her head on the other hand - has always been at the 50th percentile so quite a difference.

the only time you’d realise is if she tries to do a cartwheel or handstand and she doesn’t have quite enough arm to make it work 😂

PlumpHobbit · 07/09/2024 19:23

Interesting people saying they thought they were feeling better and now aren't, I'm not quite into trimester 2 yet

DH has been doing the cooking as the smell has been making my stomach churn however usually we each cook once a week then joint the rest of it

Thought I'd have a go tonight as it was "only" halloumi burgers

Wasn't that hungry, and the smell was making me a bit blurgh even though they aren't even that offensive

Then tried to take a paracetamol, which didn't go down overly well

Cue a gag and yep that was enough to necessitate a dash for the loo! Poor cat came in looking distraught wondering what on earth was going on!!!

Needless to say I don't fancy the halloumi burger anymore, when it used to be a favourite. Didn't get as far as sitting down to eat it

Guess it'll be dairylea dunkers for tea I'm going to turn into one at this rate 😂

Ellsx6 · 07/09/2024 20:29

@PlumpHobbit I've had no symptoms really through out but today randomly woke up started brushing my teeth then got hot and sweaty started running to my bed because I thought I was going to pass out then started gagging and run back to the toilet🤣it was a movie scene. I've not been sick in about 10 years and was sick 6 times today!! So strange because I didn't even feel sick and felt fine after too!

Tw 💔 loss

I should be 11 weeks today however I had some pink light bleeding this morning so I went to the hospital and had an ultrasound and internal scan and they confirmed no heartbeat baby stopped growing about seven weeks. Absolutely heartbroken after seven months of trying for this baby. I just feel so numb never been through this before 💔
I had similar bleeding with my daughter and everything was fine, so I just went to the hospital alone thinking it would be okay. I'm just in complete shock.

I am so sorry to read this, this happened to me in February so I know how devasting it is. Look after yourself and surround yourself with people who will look after you. Take care xx

You sound just like me. My food of the moment is plastic cheese on a flatbread, so boring and repetitive but all I can face most days. Also literally one gag is all it takes for me to throw up!!
Thankfully my nausea has subsided now but still struggling to brush my back teeth and to expand my foods

IMBCRound2 · 08/09/2024 13:01

finally decided to wear something not entirely voluminous now that I’ve had my scan (still waiting for the combined test results but I’m trying to stay positive ) - walk out my room ….

’ Mummmmmmy, why is your tummy so PLUMP?!’

10/10 for word choice

Yuck me too. I’m 12w2d and I still don’t want to eat anything. I went to M&S Foodhall today to try and buy myself something as a treat, hoping it would make me want to eat something. Came back with a pack of bagels and some apples 🤦‍♀️

Joleyjojo · 08/09/2024 15:18

@Moomoo20 i am so sorry to see this. I am 11 days post surgical management. Our baby stopped at 9 weeks and I booked a scan for 9+3 for reassurance. I really know how you’re feeling be kind to yourself, and take time to heal. It’s so unfair and cruel and sorry you’re going through it. Lots of thoughts to you xx

sadly leaving this group as it’s all official. We’re going to be having a medical abortion and the growth is abnormal. Wish you all every success in your journeys and thanks for being great companions during this short time ❤️
