I'm intending to finish up mid Feb on annual leave and only start my maternity on the 2nd March, for a due date of the 4th, to maximise time off once baby is here, then will have accrued holiday to take after my mat too, to hopefully take my past their 1st birthday.
And then that's not too much of a slog coming back after Christmas either.

Hoping I'll manage working until then but my work are pretty flexible so I'll definitely be able to work from home if I need to, and also move it earlier if I'm really struggling.
I work in payroll, so can basically just plan the dates out however suits me best! 😄

Unrelated but got home from work today and hubs had ordered me a pregnancy pillow as a surprise, the bbhugme one 🥰 Hadn't even dropped any hints, but had been swithering on when was the time, so pleased to have it now, looks so comfy!

I ordered one last week but it’s not due to arrive until next week. I can’t believe how excited I am for a pillow!

Ellsx6 · 29/08/2024 21:47

Do I need a pregnancy pillow yet?! I've been sleeping on my side for the last 2 weeks because sleeping on my back gives me terrible back aches anyways so I always slept on my belly but it's getting so hard and bloated that it's uncomfortable sleeping on it now. My hips have been killing!!

Rainbowchaser24 · 29/08/2024 22:02

Hi everyone, just caught up with thread. Went for reassurance scan yesterday and it was amazing to see the baby. I thought I was 10w 3 days and they said I was more like 11w 2 days!
I have my booking appointment and they've booked me in for 12 week scan on Tuesday!

It feels crazy how real it feels now.

It is an anxious time but also don't want to get stressed and worried all the way through as it will probably be the last time I'll experience it so want to enjoy it too.

Xx

I’m quite sore a lot of the time so decided to get one. The bbhugme is so expensive but everyone I speak to says it’s the best thing they’ve ever bought.

Has anyone else got/ had carpal tunnel? I saw a obgyn today and mentioned I’ve been getting pins and needles in my fingers and have always had some numbness which has spread. They think I have carpal tunnel which is worsened with pregnancy and suggested a splint. Going to give one a try but feel like it’s probably going to be quite annoying!

InvisibleDragon · 29/08/2024 22:12

@Ellsx6 I've been stealing one of DH's pillows to pad my knees. He pointedly suggested I get my pregnancy pillow out tonight!

I'm holding out until my 12 week scan to get one, I've slowly been getting more and more uncomfortable at night with back and hip pain but felt so silly getting one so early. I've been making do with a pillow between my legs so far. I've been telling my partner I'm most excited for the scan, but a close second is getting a pregnancy pillow haha!!

If it hasn’t been mentioned - then try and use them at night, they really help with neutral positioning which then benefits throughout the day.

Hi, I got (mild) carpal tunnel in my last pregnancy, only in third trimester and at night, basically it just meant I woke up with numb or tingling fingers/hands every morning. I never got a splint as didn't bother me during the day. It stopped as soon as I gave birth thankfully! I think it's relatively common. Hopefully the splint helps and sending hugs, it's just really annoying!

Onthedouble123 · 30/08/2024 07:28

@lipgoss you've got a good egg! My DH did the same for me earlier in the week. He also bought me a pillow sleep spray and a sleepy massage oil for my shoulders but I'm not sure the massage oil is pregnancy safe so just leaving that to one side. I think it's nice that they can feel involved and helpful!
My insomnia has been awful so hoping these do the trick 🤞🏻🤞🏻🤞🏻

PlumpHobbit · 30/08/2024 12:52

Am really dreading going back to work been on school holidays and have literally slobbed about doing very little (d/w no children involved!)

I just feel so lacking in energy and I thought the nausea had passed but it's been back the last few days (not actually being sick just feel very MEH)

Scan is on Friday, how am I going to tell them I need time off for something I'm entitled to without needing to make up the hours, when I don't want to tell them why I need it until everything is confirmed OK and the Downs etc tests are back? I think a few guessed but I don't want to say anything official until I've got the all clear

Do I need a pillow already? I generally sleep on my side.

Just feel I have no energy 😴😴

Also lunch, I'm doing well eating diarylea dunkers, just trying to imagine chomping on them in the office like a child 😂

Chicken is a definite aversion (and we usually eat a lot) unless it's coated in enough flavouring to mask the chicken taste dinner yesterday had chimechangas, I was fine as the chicken was spicy, got a bit that was less so and it tasted revolting!

Ellsx6 · 30/08/2024 13:17

@PlumpHobbit I haven't ate chicken in 10 weeks!! Since 4 weeks pregnant I can not bare it. The look the smell the taste everything!! I'm struggling with things I usually love like mince and bacon too but can suffer through. It's so weird!

Onthedouble123 · 30/08/2024 13:25

I have zero food aversions. If anything I'm also fancying things I usually don't like in normal life. It's off the scale how much food I can eat in a single day 😩😩
Told myself I was going to be more restrained this time around but feel like I'm actually worse! 13 1/2 weeks now and, if anything, been feeling more sick last few days not less! Hoping it starts to fade soon and I can get into the glowing health kick stage 🤞🏻🤞🏻

I cooked up spicy beef noodles for DH as it was my turn to cook (he's had to do most of the cooking)

The beef - fine
The stri fry brocoli- 🤢
The noodles soaking in the bowl? 🤢🤢🤢

So random 😂

PlumpHobbit · 30/08/2024 14:08

Also really random ' I've had 0 interest in sex since conceiving, drive was always fairly low but is this normal? I think the lack of energy doesn't help at all I'd rather a nice massage

veggiebuns · 30/08/2024 14:17

I haven't eaten chicken for 6 weeks, the very concept of it turns my stomach. Beforehand, it was the only meat I really ate. But pregnancy seems to have turned me full veggie!

@PlumpHobbit My sex drive has been completely non-existent. I had a brief moment the other day that I ran with because I knew it was fleeting. So strange, but I genuinely can't imagine being in that kind of mood ever again. It's like since finding out, my brain has just switched off to the idea of sex! I'm hoping it's temporary!!

Lulub94 · 30/08/2024 14:24

I've had so many food aversions but it's more of a case of I know I want something to eat, I just don't know what and some random things turn my stomach, cheese was one of them 😩and bacon also! Have been really weird with drinks too, totally off tea and coffee and don't know what cold drinks I want either. Having to force myself to drink something at times.
And yes also to lack of sex drive, but luckily my husband has been the same too as we've both been quite anxious.

Ellsx6 · 30/08/2024 15:57

@PlumpHobbit me either until 12 weeks but I think that was because I was scared more than anything🤣13+5 now and sex drive is back in full swing!😅

IMBCRound2 · 30/08/2024 16:01

I worked overseas most of my life and have been craving all this food I can’t get in the UK…

last pregnancy was during lockdown and all I wanted was Vietnamese vegan bun cha - mum found me reading the takeaway menu to my bump and crying 😂

Mrbay · 30/08/2024 17:31

Off plain chicken too! The smell puts me off!!

Omg a bbhugme pillow is a dream! I utterly love mine and really useful for breastfeeding afterwards if that's what you choose to do.

Thought I was over the sickness but it's back 🤢🤮

Ellsx6 · 30/08/2024 21:39

@Patientlywaiting7 how did your scan go? Sending love! X

PlumpHobbit · 30/08/2024 22:14

Has anyone got any recommendations for good skin creams - my joints feel like the skin has gone massively dry, almost to the point of splitting like my hands do in winter?

Anything I could put in tne bath?

UncharteredWaters · 31/08/2024 01:21

@PlumpHobbit the cerave moisturiser in the white and blue tub, hydrating balm one is amazing! A small amount goes a long way.

Patientlywaiting7 · 31/08/2024 09:55

Hi all,

had my 12 week scan - and as expected we are measuring behind (which we have been since week 6)

we measured at roughly 11+1 - scan day was 12+3

any success stories?

my sonographer was awful … just awful. Was offended we asked any questions / gave us one worded responses etc. just insane

feeling deflated
