I was told during my 12w scan on Friday that all looked ok, then I had the blood test and I actually got my results within a few days (Monday!) but on MyCharts. It doesn't say "low risk nothing further needed" which would be better but it gives the risk calculations both as background (ie for my age etc) and then based on my scan and bloods which I can see is very very low. So all good.

The speed is good but it's a bit annoying not having results relayed in plain English on this app malarkey (my other bloods show I'm anaemic and no one has been on touch with me about it!)

My understanding (in UK) is that you'd be offered NIPT if your initial screening test done at the 12 week scan came back as high risk. But if it's low then that's the end of it.

That’s right. I had NIPT in my first pregnancy as had a higher risk for Downs. That then came back with something much lower risk. NIPT can be used to determine gender but if you have an NHS one they don’t use it for that.

This info has me wishing I'd opted for the more indepth testing at my 12 week scan. I didn't know the NHS offered a NIPT test if necessary, I thought it was just the amniocentesis test which I absolutely would not have had if we came back as high risk
Oh well, I suppose they do a more indepth check at the 20 week scan anyway so I'll wait and see

UncharteredWaters · 21/08/2024 09:47

Thank you all.
The phlebotomist who did the bloods said if it was high risk I’d be back within 10 days for NIPT but otherwise I’d just hear at another midwife appt.
I think if it’s low risk we will book a private NIPT - any recommendations gratefully received!
Though as already 13 weeks I’d rather not wait much longer.

I just worry it’s not particularly in depth and various factors can throw it off.

Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 11:51

@UncharteredWaters we was going to do NIPT private anyway. It's around £500 where I am in the East Midlands. I asked my midwife if I should and she said due to age and history she highly doubts I'll be high risk and the nhs will do one anyway. At 12 week scan If baby has any of the 3 things they can usually tell just by looking. Someone I know had Edwards and the baby had 3 eyes and intestines on outside of the stomach ect all picked up at the 12 week scan straight away. I then spoke to private clinic and they also said that there's very low chance that after all my private scans nothings been picked up as there's usually signs so given my age to (early 20s) they don't think it's worth it. It's down to you really but if the nhs said I was low risk that would confirm that I wouldn't get the nipt privately either x

veggiebuns · 21/08/2024 14:38

I've just got the date for my 12 week scan through, I'm pretty sure I'll only be 11 +1. Is this far enough along for them to check what they need to? I don't want to go and then be told I'm too early 😊

GlitteringCat · 21/08/2024 14:48

Thanks everyone who gave feedback about the testing. I had my scan and bloods done. Scan was absolutely fine so just the bloods but it doesn’t sound like I’m particularly high risk. 1 - 2 week wait for results still sounds like forever though!

Moomoo20 · 21/08/2024 15:24

Ladies I'm 8 weeks 5 days today and last night I had sharp pains near my right ovary area. This morning I had a tiny bit of brown colour discharge just very like one small spot, has anyone experienced similar?

m00ngirl · 21/08/2024 15:38

@veggiebuns my midwife told me you have to be 11+6 for the NT analysis during the scan if you want that, but online says 11+3.... Maybe ask them but think I'd want it a bit nearer 12w than 11+1 personally (I did want/get the NT check)

Onthedouble123 · 21/08/2024 16:39

@veggiebuns I think it's because baby needs to measure a certain length before they can do it. If you're too early they should invite you back for a second scan a week or so later.

I've just had mine today. All looked okay. Was beyond nervous beforehand. EDD as we thought of 3.3.25.

@GlitteringCat pleased to hear yours went well. I've been told to keep my eye on Badger notes app for my results or will get a phonecall if need to discuss options for further testing. I hate that app though so I hope it doesn't crash over the next week or two! Xx

hampshiremum88 · 21/08/2024 17:21

Hiya,
I had my 12 week scan on Monday

  • measuring 12weeks 2days! So EDD of March 1st!
The NT measurement was low around 1.4 I think, she said anything below 3.5 is considered safe. I had my bloods done and got told expect a phone call within 3 days if something is high risk, but if not then they will just appear on the app within 10days. So I'm constantly logging into the app to check, so annoying it doesn't give you notifications for those kind of things. My booking in appointment bloods came back in a few days so I hope I don't have to wait too long as we are still holding out telling people
Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 17:48

@veggiebuns my midwife said you need to be atleast 11+6 for accurate NT measurements :)

Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 17:50

@Moomoo20 sorry to hear that, I haven't had that personally. If you call your local epu they may scan you? I've seen some others in the group earlier on getting scans for brown discharge

Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 17:51

Does everyone have this 'app' that's being spoke about for the pregnancy notes? I was given a paper booklet and no details of an app..

veggiebuns · 21/08/2024 18:02

Thanks for clarifying everyone! As far as the NHS are aware I'll be 12 +3, but as I have longer cycles and I know I ovulated later I know I'm actually a week behind. But I guess that probably happens with a lot of people that don't know their exact dates!
I'll keep the appointment and just go back for a follow up if needed. Won't say no to extra scans haha!

@Ellsx6 I have an appointment called mycare/mychart, it's paired with my local hospital. I still have a folder but my appointments/test results go through the app. Currently my folder just has leaflets in it! I think a lot of areas use the app now but not everywhere. I got sent my log in when I first registered my pregnancy so I imagine if you're area used it you would definitely know about it x

bouncingblob · 21/08/2024 18:06

Delighted to say we saw a very healthy baby at our 12 week scan, measuring 11w5d and full of activity!

Our first pregnancy was a MMC so the stress waiting for this was something else...just so happy there was a baby there! Hoping all goes well from here on in of course, but all feels so much more real now.

m00ngirl · 21/08/2024 18:08

@hampshiremum88 I'm also due 1 March ☺️ though this is my first so expecting to go over

hampshiremum88 · 21/08/2024 20:02

@m00ngirl congratulations!
Have you had your 12 week scan yet?
This is my second,
My first was over due but only by 2 days.
We had a MMC inbetween my first and this pregnancy so I'm much more aware of things that could go wrong this time around.
I'm hoping once I get my blood results I'll just be a little less anxious

hampshiremum88 · 21/08/2024 20:04

@Ellsx6 I have the badger app for all my maternity notes and appointments.
I had paper notes for my first back in 2021.
I'm not sure what I prefer atm, the notes were more reliable but the app is quicker when you are waiting for results or appointments because you don't have to wait for the letter in the post.

Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 20:22

@veggiebuns I have longer cycles too usually 2 weeks over so nhs thought I'd be 14week now even though I'm only 12. I told my midwife and she changed the date of my scan as she said they won't get what's needed before 11+6 so it's pointless. You could just stay quiet if you wanted the extra scan though. We've been going private weekly so wasn't bothered about it moving personally x

Lovely news!

same as @veggiebuns ibe got the mycare app. It’s quite handy.

Got our 12w scan on Friday, haven’t had one at all yet so I’m just keeping everything crossed for all good news.

Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 21:11

@hampshiremum88 assuming id of been told about the app at my booking appointment if my local trust used an app? Have my 12 week scan in the morning so will double check tomorrow

hampshiremum88 · 21/08/2024 21:27

@Ellsx6 you would have been told about it already if your trust was using an app.
When I self referred, the auto email told me to download the app and then when I had my booking in app the midwife again asked me if I had downloaded and gave me a password to access my details.
I'm sure it's just that your trust hasn't moved over yet.
Good luck with your scan tomorrow Smile

Ellsx6 · 21/08/2024 21:32

@hampshiremum88 Thankyou! I'm hoping it will be okay! No symptoms here but had a scan a week ago and it was okay so fingers and toes crossed😁

m00ngirl · 22/08/2024 00:27

@hampshiremum88 yes had my 12 week and bloods back - all good. Feeling very grateful. Amazing to see baby moving and I even got a wave 🥹🤪

So lovely to read about all the scans that are going so well from those of us due early March and looking forward to hearing about all the lovely scans to come!
