9 week scan (at 8+5) was a success, so we are officially discharged from our IVF clinic and will start our weaning off protocol for the IVF medications at the end of the week.

We've also got our booking in appointment on Saturday, after which we have a 3 hour drive to collect my partners two boys for a week, so all go here!

If anyone has any tips on sharing the news with step-children, I'd love to hear them. They are 12 and 8 😬

@LV1987 amazing news so happy for you x

@Mrbay also interested in what maternity leggings people have bought. Have no clue where to start don't want to waste extra money with try and error with loads

By far the best leggings are lovall (previously love leggings) they are nice and thick and so comfortable! I've bought quite a few pairs from there. Everywhere else the material was so thin.

m00ngirl · 19/08/2024 20:26

Has anyone else used the Squeezy app to start pelvic floor exercises? My midwife recommended it and said it was an NHS app but when I've looked it up it's £3 to buy - I don't mind paying but wonder if it's the right app as I'd expect an NHS app to be free?

jellyfish2 · 19/08/2024 20:38

@m00ngirl that's the correct one, I bought it after I had my DS 3 years ago. I'm glad I never deleted it 😊

InvisibleDragon · 19/08/2024 20:47

How's everyone with other kids doing? I am wading through a fug of tiredness with a 2yo who is rarely asleep before 9pm. Tried to spend lots of time this afternoon lying on the sofa, but then DS starts trying to jump on me and roll on my belly. Feel like my brain is made of mashed potatoes.

It’s rough ay 🤣 I’ve got a 2yo too (almost 3yo) and he’s just a ball of bonkers energy. He’s a good kid and he does do as he’s told for the most part so I can’t really complain but it’s just go go fucking go all day every day 😅 I feel like I’ve just started to turn a corner in terms of tiredness and have felt much more like myself today, which is nice. I’m about 11.5 weeks now. I’m hoping it’s not just a one off!

Beclou88 · 19/08/2024 21:20

Sorry been a bit quiet say worrying constantly still 10 week 2 days I have my scan at 13 week my choice but regretting it now though just wanna see if my baby is ok and still there I think first 16 week are most scary at least further on you can feel your baby for reassurance any one else feeling same

HappyGoLucky31 · 19/08/2024 21:31

@Ellsx6 bless you. the first trimester wait is so so tough. A long time before I had DS, I worked with someone who found out at 12 weeks her baby was high risk for downs and they chose to terminate. It scarred me and when I was pregnant I fixated on it because up until then stories like that seemed to be anomalies. And then my first pregnancy I have a MMC so leading up to 12 week NHS scan I was a wreck. So I can understand. Rest assured everything is fine. The chances of anything happening to baby now are so slim - as you know as you reassured me :) - and statistics are on your side in terms of everything being okay with baby’s health. :) not long now. But I had a scan on Sat and now back to feeling anxious. NHS scan next Friday. I’m much better at convincing others!

@InvisibleDragon ditto. I’ve been feeling so crap about feeling so crap. I’m a teacher and so it’s summer hols for me and should be making most of time with my three year old but I’m just laying on the sofa like death warmed up. Not necessarily sick - just meh, no motivation, no energy. It’s horrible. Look forward to bedtime by about 10am 🤣🤣

i know the answer though - more fresh air and exercise. Might go on a long walk tomorrow. Famous last words!

Ellsx6 · 19/08/2024 21:39

@HappyGoLucky31 mmc seems so common in first time pregnancy's which is making me nervous too. Some days I'm fine and so positive next I'm a nervous wreck and wishing the day away. Thursday seems a life time away! I know it'll be fine more than likely as it has been every single time despite no symptoms but worried that no symptoms is a baby that's not healthy or something ahhh my minds going crazy!
Also worried because of the screening coming up and apparsntly can take up to 2 weeks for the results which won't be good for my anxiety at all :( these days are just dragging. I can't wait to be past 16 week mark I think that's when I'll start to relax a little as also seen a lot about 15-16 week mc due to placenta missing cells ect. I think I need to bury my phone🤣

Mrbay · 19/08/2024 22:29

Thanks for the lovell tip, heard good things about them.

I've been hinting at BIL for a pair of sweaty betty leggings (will either be discounted or free) but the current reviews aren't great.

Thinking about getting the My Protein ones as I get Blue Light discount so 50% off.

I'm so big now, I'm worried how I'm gonna hide the bump at work on Wedneaday.

12-week scan on Sunday so at least I'll feel comfortable telling work next week, all being well.

Ellsx6 · 19/08/2024 22:36

@Mrbay 12+1 and my usual primark high waisted leggings are slipping below my hips now..time to invest in some maternity leggings..never thought the day would come!! I always thought you stayed the same until around 20 weeks where you'd just pop. It seems not! I feel so podgy and bloated!

ridl14 · 19/08/2024 23:45

@Ellsx6 same! I'm 13+4 today and just bloated and thick around the middle. DH and close friends can tell the difference but I think I just look podgy to everyone else. I'm finding it so uncomfortable having any waistbands on me atm, they tend to put some uncomfortable pressure on my abdomen.

I'm back to work (school) this week and will have to wear smart ish clothes again 😥 I'm thinking dresses and maybe some maternity leggings underneath. I just don't want any clothes touching my body currently!

HappyGoLucky31 · 20/08/2024 07:51

@Ellsx6 It is so hard not to worry about the next thing, you remind me so much of me during my first pregnancy. I was so happy I got past 12 weeks but then was just worried about the screening results … but everything was okay. ❤️ and you and your baby will be fine too.

i mean this with love too - try to be kinder to yourself. You are literally weeks away from baby being here and a whole other host of worries begins. How much will I sleep tonight? Is baby hungry? How will I know if they have eaten enough? Why are they crying so much? And you will just end up swapping pregnancy worries for other worries. ❤️ try to enjoy it as much as you possible can.

Can’t wait to hear all about your 12 week scan. Not long now.

@ridl14 you are back to school early, did you finish early? Forgot to say, I teach English for my sins 😋

I’ve just ended up buying some of maternity dresses off vinted. The thought of squeezing myself in trousers makes me feel so uncomfortable 🤣

InvisibleDragon · 20/08/2024 09:55

@HappyGoLucky31 yes, general meh-ness is exactly it. I just feel really apathetic about everything and I really don't like it - I'm not usually like this! DH was working this weekend and I feel like I've only just recovered now. He's away again this weekend and instead of looking forward to a lovely couple of days with DS I'm dreading how I'm going to get through it.

@Muffin101 Great to hear you're starting to feel a bit better now! Fingers crossed it stays that way! I'm still only 8.5w, so hopefully by the end of the first trimester I'm also feeling more lively!

Finally have my booking appointment this week and have booked a private scan for 10 weeks to give me some motivation for getting through the next month.

lipgoss · 20/08/2024 13:54

Had my 12w scan this morning, dated at exactly 12w and all looking just as it should, and baby was bouncing around 🤗I can't believe how much it's (they've..!) grown since my last scan at 8+1. NT measurement is well within normal range, so obviously will need to wait for the full results but I've not got any of the usual risk factors, so feeling quite relaxed about that.

I'm feeling really good now, like my pre-pregnancy self, so hoping I can start to really embrace and enjoy it now with this first hurdle out the way, and look forward to starting to share happy news!

Onthedouble123 · 20/08/2024 15:20

@lipgoss that's amazing news. So pleased it all went well. I've got mine tomorrow. Trying not to think about it too much beforehand! Xx

HappyGoLucky31 · 20/08/2024 15:24

@lipgoss wonderful news lovely! 🥰

lipgoss · 20/08/2024 15:50

@HappyGoLucky31 Thank you both, and hope it's the same good news for you tomorrow @Onthedouble123 !

GlitteringCat · 20/08/2024 18:33

NHS 12 week scan tomorrow and was feeling relaxed after a scan on Saturday but starting to feel a bit nervous about the NT measurements bit. Meant to be 12w4 but was measuring 12w4 on Saturday so interested to see where they end up at!
I also keep seeing people talk about NIPT tests but I don’t think we get that in the U.K.?

UncharteredWaters · 20/08/2024 19:10

We had our 12+6 scan this week and screening - any idea how long for the results?
Just another thing to worry about!
Though I finally have an EDD of 25th feb….eek

I was told it could be a couple of weeks or longer to get a letter confirming if it's low risk, but if it came back high and they were advising more tests then the hospital would call, probably in about a week

My understanding (in UK) is that you'd be offered NIPT if your initial screening test done at the 12 week scan came back as high risk. But if it's low then that's the end of it.

What screening is it you get done at that appointment? Mines tomorrow and thought it was just a scan but keep seeing people mention waiting for results.

My midwife said usually within 3 days they'd call you if your high risk. If it's a low risk result they'll send a letter which you'll receive in a week or 2 x

Ellsx6 · 20/08/2024 21:42

@GlitteringCat you will only have the screening if you opted in to have it. It's a blood test that they compare to your age and NT measurement to determine high risk or low risk of Down syndrome , Edwards syndrome and Patau syndrome
