Anyone else due January 2025?

I’m coming up to 16 weeks with my second. This time seems to be flying by as life is much busier with a nearly 2 year old!

Luckily, felt pretty much fine the whole way through so far, albeit being tired. However, I was diagnosed with GD and currently diet controlled, which is bit of a bummer.

How are you feeling?

@Firsttimetrier Not at all, it's not so much GD itself but thinking I'd probably do something wrong, especially with how dumb the pregnancy brain is making me feel! I'm finding it helpful to read about every kind of outcome, the best and worst, so things hopefully wouldn't come as a total shock. My loss was beyond the initial "safe" zone, everything had looked fine, no symptoms of a problem etc... and I had so much anxiety about something going wrong, that when it did I realised there's so much outside of our control. I'm weirdly relaxed this time and trying to enjoy it however long it may last, hoping we'll have a happy, healthy baby in our arms one day. Thank you for your kind offer of support ❤️ Exciting that you're so close to halfway! I've just reached 18 weeks

Ooh that’s exciting you can feel movements. I’m definitely getting some flutters and movements but they aren’t very strong atm. How far along are you? And is it your first?

I’ll be 19+5 on Friday for the scan. He’s my second baby (third pregnancy) and it’s been similar to my other son except I have a posterior placenta this time so movements have been felt for a while. ☺️

I’ve started taking electrolytes for tiredness and dehydration- anyone else take any? All natural and apparently pregnancy safe (GP and midwife both clueless so had to research and make a call)

Vik27 · 14/08/2024 06:39

@Noodles4Me what electrolytes are you taking? The tiredness is next level and nothing seems to help at the minute

I’m taking Ultima. 1 3.5g sachet a day in a pint of water. All natural ingredients and not too much sodium. Only just started so will see how it goes :)

ChirpyTurtle · 14/08/2024 11:49

Is anyone still feeling nausea? I haven’t been particularly bothered by it, just on and off, but feeling the last few days like I can’t get a proper sleep and I’m feeling nauseous again. Can’t decide if I’m just tired or if it’s hanging on from the first trimester. I’m 16 weeks and I’ve read it can last until around now?

I’ve had the appointment date for my 20week scan so starting to feel anxiety ramping up again as I read more about that. Trying to stay level headed!

I’ve not been taking electrolytes @Noodles4Me but interested to hear more about them.

Uguberry · 14/08/2024 12:57

@ChirpyTurtle I still get nauseous when my stomach is too empty. I hate to eat after brushing my teeth but if I've gone to bed and can't sleep because my tummy is feeling funny I have a few crackers and keep them next to the bed to have in the night if I wake up with the same empty feeling. Since 16 weeks I've been waking up 5-10 times a night so it might be a vicious cycle of feeling more sick from always being tired. Sorry nothing helpful to suggest!

ttcnumero1 · 14/08/2024 13:17

I've been on Cariban for sickness since week 8. Felt a lot better the last few weeks so tried a day without on Sunday and I was unwell again. Still not 100%, takes a few days to build it back up in my system I think. Week 18 now!

Vik27 · 14/08/2024 13:19

@Noodles4Me thanks I’ll look into it

Firsttimetrier · 15/08/2024 06:49

@ChirpyTurtle with my son, I was nauseous until 16 weeks then it eased up. This time around, I had a week at 13 weeks but now can’t brush my teeth properly without gagging and retching 🫠

@Firsttimetrier @ttcnumero1 @Uguberry thanks for making me feel more normal! Especially when you read online that it should all have eased up by now!

I’ve felt quite a bit better today, and I’m feeling less tired, so I definitely think that for me the nausea is linked to not sleeping well.

Took your advice @Uguberry and bought some crackers to have when it hits (usually around 11am) and they do take the edge off. Unfortunately my husband has been enjoying them too so I might be buying more sooner rather than later 😂

Hope everyone is keeping well?

Uguberry · 15/08/2024 15:37

@ChirpyTurtle This made me laugh, I have the exact same problem 😂 we need a secret stash so they can't get them!! I wish I wasn't just stuffing my face with carbs but fruit or nuts don't do the trick of lining my stomach well enough to settle it

Firsttimetrier · 16/08/2024 09:00

Hope your scan goes well today @Noodles4Me !

@Firsttimetrier @Uguberry Thank you! I got my resuls and it is good news, no trisomy has been detected. I am over the most dangerous part, so hopefully everything is going to be all right. Although because of the high risk of other. Pregnancy complication, they scheduled an extra scan in for the 23th week to monitor the bloodflow of the placenta. Because of my age I was high risk anyway and had a few extra scan appointment added already for later on

BeLemonQuoter · 16/08/2024 11:09

How is everyone doing with the weight gain? I have gained quote a lot of weight in the first trimester, about 5kg, but nothing in the second yet. Is that normal? I had a healthy bmi before pregnancy 21.1. I am concerned because one of the risk they mentioned is small growth for the baby, although baby seemed to be in the range this week when they scanned for amnio.

ChirpyTurtle · 16/08/2024 13:17

Haha @Uguberry I tried a secret stash when I went through a big salt and vinegar crisps phase a few weeks ago, and he still sniffed them out 😂I clearly need to improve my hiding places, all tips welcome!
I’m just embracing the carbs…trying to be sensible with portions and I’m managing more fruit and veg than I was a few weeks ago (on non-nauseous days) but my new found love of potatoes is still strong! If they make you feel better I think it’s worth it.

ChirpyTurtle · 16/08/2024 13:33

@BeLemonQuoter I haven’t weighed myself, have you been weighing regularly?

I’ve been looking on it as my body doing what it needs to do. I’m trying to be sensible with what I’m eating but it’s inevitable I’m going to gain weight and so just trying to go with the flow!

Have you spoken to your midwife about it? I thought the risk was based on the booking appt BMI but may be completely wrong.

I’ve been losing weight (about 3-4kg between midwife appointments) but that’s due to the gestational diabetes diet. With my first (and also GD pregnancy), I weighed less at full term than I did at my booking in appointment!

@Firsttimetrier That is interesting, I didn't know that it could be like that, but it makes me less worried :)

@ChirpyTurtle no, I have only noticed it now that my weight is the same for at least 3 weeks now, but I will. I try to eat as much as I can in the meantime.

Pips87 · 16/08/2024 14:22

Hi
In my first trimester I seem to put on 4kg and too and have platued since but I'm trying to go with the flow as baby seems healthy. My appetite was raging first 3 months but at the moment feels back to normal! We do what we can to survive Smile

Uguberry · 16/08/2024 14:42

@ChirpyTurtle omg are we kindred food spirits. Salt and vinegar is my favourite flavour but I can't get them here 😭 My husband visited the UK recently and filled the last gaps of suitcase space with s&v crisps for me. Trying to make them last as long as I can! Also, potatoes are how I survived the first trimester. I still want them all the time though trying to get a decent variety of other things now I can stomach it, but if I could have it my way I'd only eat potato 😅

Oh and try a hiding place where you keep cleaning things like the hoover/mop etc, they will never be found 🤣

@BeLemonQuoter Don't know how much as I don't weigh myself but I've put on a lot, especially towards the end of first trimester and into second. Not too worried as it's all building around my middle, and my face, arms and legs don't look any different, so I figured it's body's way of padding out and protecting bump (normally weight doesn't go to my belly before other places like legs so it seems more like a pregnant thing). Not sure how I could eat less, my stomach rumbles all the time and I feel like I'm starving, and get more nauseous the longer I go without eating!

Hope your scan goes well today @Noodles4Me !

Thank you, all went well. Baby seemed happy and wriggly but all measurements were good, he’s bang on 50th centile - which was exactly same as my other son.

I have only gained 1kg whole pregnancy but that’s mainly due to lack of appetite and I was borderline overweight at the start - I think if you are smaller at the start the weight seems more.

Is anyone still exercising? I walk but nothing else but still trying to continue but it’s so hard, I’ve no energy by tea time for anything 😞

Uguberry · 16/08/2024 14:53

You might all get a laugh from this, my scan 2 weeks ago. Should I be worried I was abducted and had my memory wiped?
