Anyone else due January 2025?

I’m coming up to 16 weeks with my second. This time seems to be flying by as life is much busier with a nearly 2 year old!

Luckily, felt pretty much fine the whole way through so far, albeit being tired. However, I was diagnosed with GD and currently diet controlled, which is bit of a bummer.

How are you feeling?

@MrsNT I would like to know the answer too. I am a first time mum, so I am even more clueless.

Has anyone subsrcribed for antenatal classes? We have bump and baby, nct and a happy parents happy babies class nearby and couldn't find anything similar from the NHS in the Greater Manchester area, but maybe looking at the wrong place.

What is everyone buying for January baby? My first one was a summer baby so would be in a half sleeve vest and sleevesuit and cotton swaddle at bedtime

For January, as it will be cold I was thinking full sleeve vest, cotton sleepsuit , and sleep bag with blanket on top if needed. Do we need fleecesleepsuit??
Anyone with experience of winter new born babies??

I’ve been thinking about this too as my first was a 40c heatwave baby 😂

I’m thinking long sleeve vests with sleepsuits and a cardigan if it’s really cold.
For nights, we’ll get the Love2Dream arms up swaddles again (this baby is a thumb sucker and always has his hands by his face like my 1st) as they worked wonders for us. They also do a winter range for below 20c, so shouldn’t be too cold at night!
We’ll also pick up a pramsuit but we do have a sheepskin liner on the pram which keeps them warm.

I’d love to make (or try to) mum friends this pregnancy. Everything was online last time so it wasn’t worth it. There were others pregnant on my street nearby last time who I kind of shared things with but they’ve got very cliquey and exclude me and my boy a lot. Mainly coz I work full time so I doubt I’ll get to make any mum friends now 😩

My NCT is 10am-4pm but on a Sunday. How does that work with a toddler?

ChirpyTurtle · 01/09/2024 10:01

Hi @CKNP 👋 welcome! How have you been getting on with your pregnancy so far?

@Firsttimetrier what is VBAC? Haven’t had any discussion about birth plan yet, when do they usually have that? My next midwife appoint isn’t for quite a while.

@Uguberry my bump still just looks like I’m bloated. My husband has definitely started saying he can see a proper bump, I am apple shaped so it’s quite round so far! Do you believe any of the stories about shape of bump and baby sex prediction?? Would be interesting to compare with scan sex prediction!

@BeLemonQuoter @Noodles4Me I've signed up for NCT, they offer NHS ones locally but both me and my husband would have to take time off work to go to them so gone for the NCT option. I don’t have other kids to juggle, but I agree times aren’t ideal, 2 full day Sundays close to Christmas 🙈 definitely going to have to be organised with Christmas shopping!! I’m looking into options for pregnancy yoga in my area too to try and make some new friends.

Is anyone going to try hypnobirthing or tried it in the past? I’m in 2 minds about it!

Also, has anybody had any problems with their back? I’ve done something to mine, a muscle strain or something maybe? It’s not blinding pain or anything, I just cannot get comfy at night time, which isn’t great for sleep 🙈 I’m thinking the bump has given me a weird posture or something? Not sure best place to go for information as I think the GP won’t see you until you’ve had back pain for 2 weeks?

Sarah268 · 01/09/2024 18:05

@ChirpyTurtle yes my back is bothering me at night too. It’s ok in the day if I keep moving but seems like it seizes up at night. Going to try a pregnancy pillow to see if that helps! I’ll mention to my midwife at the next appt. It’s really disrupting my sleep though so the next 20 weeks are going to be fun 😫

My bump is fairly obvious to those who know me but to a stranger I definitely look like I just have a bit of a belly 😂

Firsttimetrier · 02/09/2024 06:52

@ChirpyTurtle VBAC is a virginal birth after caesarean.

As I had an emergency c-section with my first, I’m consultant led with this pregnancy, so talking about my birth plan starts a little earlier than normal as I need to have additional scans to make sure a VBAC would be possible! You would usually discuss around week 36, I think?

I did hypnobirthing with my first and highly recommend it! We did a few sessions in our antenatal class but mostly I did The Positive Birth Company course!
I’ve started already PBC this time as I’m a bit nervous about attempting a VBAC and trying to be as calm as possible about it 😅
They usually have offers on, so worth following them on Instagram.

I had my anomaly scan today. Luckily everything was all right and she is a girl. 😀

Due Jan 2025
NeedSleepNowPls · 02/09/2024 15:23

Hi everyone, hope it's okay to join a bit late!

I'm 18 weeks and due 31st Jan. This will be my third baby (4th pregnancy) and a surprise baby which I think I'm still a bit in shock about 😅

So far the pregnancy has been fairly stressful, but hopefully after my 20 week scan, if all goes well I'll be able to relax a bit and start planning/ buying things!

Looking forward to being pregnant again at Christmas time so I won't feel the cold and get to hibernate at home!

Sarah268 · 02/09/2024 15:33

@BeLemonQuoter glad to hear it! I had mine today too but mine is a boy :)

So lovely to see him wriggling around and sucking his thumb! I have an anterior placenta so I haven't felt any movements yet. Have you?

Next scan feels forever away...

Sarah268 · 02/09/2024 15:35

@NeedSleepNowPls ahh congratulations on your happy surprise! Sorry it's been a stressful time though.. fingers crossed the second half will be better for you.

Interesting you saying that about Christmas makes me feel a bit better... I'm a bit sad about missing out on some Christmas fun and being absolutely massive but maybe it will be better than I think it will be :)

BeLemonQuoter · 02/09/2024 15:42

@Sarah268 I have anterior placenta too and first pregnancy, so I don't know if I felt any movements yet.

Sometimes I feel some scraping on the sides of my belly and I started to feel some bumpy feelings here or there since yesterday, but maybe it is just my bowels shifting around

NeedSleepNowPls · 02/09/2024 15:48

@Sarah268 when are you due? My first was due Christmas day but was late and came on New Years Day instead. I loved it! Christmas is easy because you're not expected to cook/host/ do much other than 'be pregnant' so it's more relaxing, you do miss out on Christmas drinks but we just did meals out with friends instead. And the countdown to your due date feels quite fast sometimes because you're busy in the run up to Christmas!

Thanks, I'm just paranoid that we'll find something wrong on the 20 week scan as I had a very high downs risk, but an NIPT said I was low risk so in theory we have nothing to worry about. 20 week scan is with a specialist consultant so they're having a very detailed look to put my mind at rest, which is really nice.

ChirpyTurtle · 02/09/2024 15:53

@Sarah268 thats exactly what mine has been like, would you keep me posted on how you get on with the pregnancy pillow? I’ve been proposing myself up with regular pillows the last few nights which has been hit and miss! Also congratulations on the scan!

ChirpyTurtle · 02/09/2024 15:58

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense, thanks @Firsttimetrier I hope you get a plan sorted and start to feel less stressed, it’s so difficult not to be stressed about everything isn’t it. I’ll definitely look up positive birth company. Still deciding whether to go for it but good to get recommendations, thanks for sharing ☺️

ChirpyTurtle · 02/09/2024 16:03

@BeLemonQuoter congrats on the scan!
Still counting down to mine…is that where you found out about the anterior placenta? I asked at my 12week but she said it was too early to say for sure.

ChirpyTurtle · 02/09/2024 16:06

@NeedSleepNowPls welcome 👋 sorry you’ve had a stressful time. I’m counting down to my 20week scan too and nervous. That’s good the consultant is doing it for you.

Sarah268 · 03/09/2024 13:12

@NeedSleepNowPls due 18th Jan. Ok that makes me feel better. I'll try to embrace it. I'm also going to veto too much travelling around "in case I need to get to the hospital" so I'm hoping everyone comes to me😅which is actually a fair excuse I think!

@ChirpyTurtle pregnancy pillow tested and I'm gutted to say it's no magic cure! I just find it really bulky to be honest and because I wriggle around a lot to get comfy it kind of just gets in the way. I'd say if you get one, get a smaller one. My friend also told me that she preferred just having a pillow between her knees to level out her hips and back so you could try that. I'm kind of resigned to the fact that I'm not going to have a good nights sleep for a very long time..
Also 20 week scan was where I found out about my anterior placenta.

BeLemonQuoter · 03/09/2024 16:31

I use a very bulky u shaped pregnancy pillow. I hated it first, but I start to feel the benefit of it as I it is a bit firmer than most of our pillows and gives more support. I cannot sleep a night through sleeping on my left side only (my hip starts hurting), so it helps to switch to the right side for a short period or to rest my back to it in a half back half side sleeper position

Firsttimetrier · 03/09/2024 19:54

I had the BBHugMe pillow for my last pregnancy and I found it so helpful! So much so it’s never left our bed 2 years after giving birth 😂

It was expensive but works out so cheap considering I used it from 16ish weeks with my first and still going strong for this pregnancy!
You can buy them cheaper second hand as well, or often deals around.

Has anyone started to feel any movement? I know it's different for everyone but I'm hoping to feel movement soon 🙂

Yes it's the best feeling ever (20 weeks now) started as really faint tingles from about 15 weeks and is only getting more intense!

Had to get the maternity jeans out today as I’ve woken up feeling like my bump has shot out!

I also have started wearing a pair of maternity jeans. Have to say I was very disappointed with the shops and their lack of maternity clothing, it's all online. Was lucky to get a pair in primark.

NeedSleepNowPls · 04/09/2024 13:13

I ordered a few pairs of maternity jeans from Vinted and got both for under £10 with delivery- bit of a risk but I didn't like many online and didn't want to spend tons of money on them. Thankfully both fit well!
