Hi, I'm new to mumsnet so I have no idea what to do on here - but please can I join? This is my first pregnancy, due date as per NHS is 1 Feb but I don't think they took into account irregular periods so I have it on my app as 8th/9th. I've been to 1st midwife appt last week and now just nervously waiting for 12 week scan. I think it's crazy how alone you feel as I don't want to share the news until after the scan. Nausea and fatigue has been so horrid for me and then on top of that trying to keep it hidden is a nightmare! Praying for it to pass in a few weeks.

UrbanSquirrel · 02/07/2024 10:24

Oh @T0r11210 I'm so, so sorry to hear that. What are the next steps in terms of checking what's going on?

Sending lots of big hugs and supportive vibes in the meantime. It's so bloody frustrating having no idea what's going on inside our own bodies, and not having the slightest control over any of it ☹️ xxx

Hello and welcome @Charlotte1708! Yes, the waiting game is awful, but at least we're all waiting together - whether that's for scans or extra tests or some kind of resolution to horrible limbo-like situations. And everyone is just SO lovely here, so I hope you'll feel supported along the way.

My estimated due date is the same as yours and 12 week scan is on 23 July. Like you, I don't ideally want to make it public until after then, but annoyingly my hand has been forced in several work / family situations. But it is such a relief to be able to talk to people here, and just to be reminded that, whatever happens, we're not alone 🤗

@T0r11210 i'm terribly sorry this is happening to you. That's really confusing that the HCG levels can vary so wildly.
Please be good to yourself ❤️❤️❤️

Thank you, they’re going to test HCG again tomorrow and go from there. I should have asked more questions but I was just in a state of shock after getting the 3+ yesterday.

Thank you lovely, not the nicest news to hear but with my boob pain disappearing last week and no nausea or anything, I guess I expected it. X

susie1984234 · 02/07/2024 10:59

@T0r11210 I also don't have any nausea but other symptoms persist - but I'm on progesterone supplements which can create the symptoms whether I'm still pregnant or not so tbh I'm fully prepared.

It's such a rollercoaster of emotions, I hope you have a supportive partner and people to lean on. And of course we are all here to lend a listening ear anytime 💕

elb1504 · 02/07/2024 11:56

@T0r11210 Sorry to read this, it's so difficult to know what's going on and the waiting game is just so frustrating. Look after yourself.

Thank you so much. My scan is the day after yours!

I do really hate having to lie to people about certain things too, I know they will absolutely understand when the time comes but still feels rubbish sometimes. I keep getting close to telling some people but I just think they'll get so excited that they would probably then tell someone else. And then if I miscarried, I just don't want the pity looks from people, would rather just grieve with my partner in peace and come somewhere like here for support.

I just never thought that this time would be so hard. Obviously I've been very naïve but I just thought that those first 12 weeks would be nothing but excitement and it would be fun to keep the secret and then surprise everyone.

What is everyone eating? My food aversions are so bad. And I am so passionate about reducing food waste ordinarily but I am having to throw food away at the moment and it's making me so sad! Because one minute that's all I want to eat and the next minute I can't even cope looking at it. I really want to be able to eat healthy but I just have to go with what I know I can stomach there and then. Breadsticks and cream cheese seems to be my go to.

Also is anyone else losing weight because of the food aversions/sickness/nausea? I have only actually vomited a couple of times thankfully but I'm just not able to eat that much. It's only a little bit that I've noticed over the last week so I don't think it's anything to worry too much about yet. Just wondered if anyone else was experiencing that?

I’ve been mildly nauseous for the last couple of days, felt awful this morning but powered through and went to the dentist anyway…that was a mistake 🤮 never been so embarrassed in my life!

UrbanSquirrel · 02/07/2024 12:21

@retrievermum Oh no!!!! 😟

OMG I didn't even think about things like that! Brushing teeth is bad enough and gets me gipping loads, let alone someone else poking around in there. I feel for you! 😬

ThisLimeDeer · 02/07/2024 14:30

Thank you to everyone who responded to me. I called my GP when I first found out I was pregnant and they told me I had to self-refer to a midwife so I did that but haven’t heard since. You’re probably right and they just won’t get in touch until later in the pregnancy and I should just leave it a little longer. Maybe I’ll wait another week or so and then call if I still don’t hear. I’m not sure about all of you but time appears to be dragging for me right now.

@T0r11210 I’m so sorry to hear that you’re going through this and I hope that this space is helpful to talk about how you’re feeling as it sounds so confusing. Please be kind to
yourself and practice lots and lots and lots of self-care ♥️.

QuantumPanic · 02/07/2024 14:38

@ThisLimeDeer how did you self-refer? I did my self-referral through a website (my pregnancynotes) and had an appointment listed on there - I only noticed because I was clicking through all the different sections of the site. I never received a phone call or any other contact.

Hope1986 · 02/07/2024 16:28

I’m going to have to say goodbye as my journey has come to an end. I wish you all the best on your onward journeys x

@ThisLimeDeer I did exactly the same as this. When I phoned GP they sent me a link to mypregnancynotes and I then completed everything on there. Same as @QuantumPanic I was never informed about the appointment I was just exploring and found it on the site.

I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope your time will come, when you're ready. Wish you recovery without complications 🙏🏻

Hi ladies. I was a part of the previous thread but unfortunately my time with you has ended.
I was incredibly anxious about my pregnancy and worried about every little thing. I’m no expert but I know what a miscarriage now feels like so if anyone wants to contact me to ask, I am happy for you to do so. I worried about every little twinge and trust me. Miscarriage cramps are VERY VERY different.

DauntedAF · 02/07/2024 17:01

@Rycbar and @Hope1986 so so sorry for your loss

UrbanSquirrel · 02/07/2024 17:03

@Rycbar So very, very sorry for you. What a horrible experience to go through. Sending lots of love and thank you for your generous offer of help if anyone needs it. Big hugs, and thanks for being a part of the thread xxx

@Rycbar @Hope1986 I’m so sorry for your losses 😔. Please do say if you’d like to talk.

@Charlotte1708 @QuantumPanic : I self-referred through the hospital website. It was a simple Microsoft Forms form and at the end when I completed it said I would get a text 🤔 but nothing’s happened just yet. I even sent it again today just to be sure I didn’t dream it 🤣. I will probably wait until Monday, I will be 7 weeks and just call them if still nothing.

WildFinch · 02/07/2024 17:15

@Hope1986 @Rycbar so very sorry to hear of your losses. Wishing you all the best for whatever path comes next, gentle hugs xxx

WildFinch · 02/07/2024 17:19

@Charlotte1708 @QuantumPanic @ThisLimeDeer I also self-referred via the hospital website at around 5 weeks and I have my booking appointment tomorrow when I'll be 7+5. I got a text, an email and an update through patient know best website?! I was told I am fine to have my baby at that hospital, it is the closest to me, but I'm out of their catchment area for antenatal and postnatal midwife support so my other appointments would be with someone somewhere else. Has anyone else found this? Do you generally see lots of different midwives?
