Happy Monday all. I'm struggling at work, spent most of the weekend napping. Had an early scan last week and found it reassuring. Just completed booking form yesterday as it was 8 weeks on the dot! Hope I hear from them soon. Feeling so much anxiety and constant discomfort. Moods definitely been better but I guess that's all power for the course.
I'm having to avoid my parents as my mum smokes (a lot) in their apartment and they've loads of cats (I'm allergic to) and feel guilty as it was her 70th on Friday. Anyone else struggling with being stuck in this limbo where you don't want to say anything to anyone but it's awkward?

superj21 · 01/07/2024 11:28

@SBelfast yes feel you with the awkwardness of not telling people! Although I have told my parents. I would always have told my mum early for the support but ended up telling my dad too as I was visiting him and he'd bought my fave wine in 😂. It's a struggle though with others! I was at a birthday weekend with my in laws (whole family) and my SIL guessed pretty quickly, even though I was trying to cover it by putting non alcoholic beer in a corona bottle. She hasn't told anyone else but I'm sure more have guessed because everyone knows I don't turn down a drink 😂

SBelfast · 01/07/2024 11:32

@superj21 haha that sounds like quite the operation with the Corona bottle.
I have IBS and since I've been feeling so ill I've just said it's flared up. Which to be fair could be part of my pain issue atm since this is a tad stressful. Everytime I speak to my mum she's asking me if I've stopped eating cheese and dairy yet to see if that helps 😂

superj21 · 01/07/2024 11:40

@SBelfast oh it was 😂 it kept fizzing up when I poured it in to so I was making a right mess of it 😂 IBS is a good cover up! Bless your mum 😂 Are you waiting til 12 weeks to tell them?

elb1504 · 01/07/2024 11:47

@SBelfast Also struggling at work just can't seem to get the motivation to do my work and by 3pm the nausea and tiredness really kicks in!
I've now ended up telling all mine and DH immediate family, I had to tell a few of them as we were on holidays for 2 weeks with them and trying to hide the not drinking was stressing me out, actually feel bit better that all the immediate family now no so less trying to hide it, also have 2 pregnant SIL so they know the score.

This limbo time is so strange and anxiety inducing, glad to have this group going through the same. It's another week until my booking appointment where I'll be 10 weeks so hoping for my scan date at that appointment!

Pcosdegallo · 01/07/2024 12:02

Hey all, haven't posted in a while but had a scan late last week and confirmed pregnant (8weeks!), saw heartbeat which was nice and was quite amazing to see outline of head etc. still super tiny but pretty amazing they can see all that at already

Really getting into that cba feeling with work as just so tired all the time/uncomfortable. Up more in the middle of the night lately which is meaning I'm a tired mess in the morning.

TMI but is anyone struggling with gas ? Lol I feel like a whoopee cushion and it never seems to go anywhere, started this week and I hope it goes away quickly

elb1504 · 01/07/2024 12:04

@Pcosdegallo The gas and bloating has been pretty bad but I've been having these deflatine tablets (made by Rennie) safe for pregnancy and they seem to help!

LilacSnail · 01/07/2024 12:17

@SBelfast yes, definitely finding this a weird time where I don’t want to say anything but it’s awkward.
Feel very much in limbo.

UrbanSquirrel · 01/07/2024 12:46

Have just been informed that there's a rumour going around the office about me being pregnant specifically because I was seen not drinking at an event. Slightly concerned that all of my colleagues evidently think I'm a total lush. And the worst thing is, their deductions are right! Dammit 😂

@UrbanSquirrel oh I hate the rumour mill- I’d rather everyone just know!

UrbanSquirrel · 01/07/2024 13:15

@LS888 I am getting to that point, believe you me ;-)

LS888 · 01/07/2024 13:17

@UrbanSquirrel not much longer to wait now! Are you waiting until your 12 week scan?

Confusedmermaid1 · 01/07/2024 13:25

I also think I’ve been rumbled in work 😅
I had to tell my manager because I was advised light duties due to a haematoma so needed to come off my on call rota due to being a solo worker and a lot of heavy lifting. One of the others on the rota has noticed that my shifts have been taken over by manager.. I claimed back injury but my story was weak 😂
Honestly I only ever look at my own name on the rota, didn’t think anyone would notice!

Lidlisthebusiness · 01/07/2024 13:27

Hi ladies, I'm 6 weeks today and have my first scan and booking with the diabetic antenatal team tomorrow. I'm convinced it's too early to see much at all, but we'll see.

I've been struck with almost constant nausea, which eases a bit when I eat, but in all my pregnancies I've never had this so it's all new to me! I keep teasing my husband that it must be twins as I've had girls and boys already with no nausea....and it's 3 times more likely over 40!

UrbanSquirrel · 01/07/2024 13:46

@LS888 I think the key thing for me is to get our private NIPT done (appointment is 11 July, so I imagine we'll get the results back by 18 July more or less). That'll put me in week 10 or 11. Assuming all goes well, and the scan this Thursday looks OK, then I guess we can start telling people then. The only issue is we have a big family lunch on 14 July so I might have to tell some wider family then, before we get the NIPT results back. What about you?

LS888 · 01/07/2024 14:45

@UrbanSquirrel we have a family occasion this weekend. We have hosting my daughter’s christening and my husbands family are staying with us. It is also my MIL 70th so on the Saturday we are going out for dinner. Because everyone will be here it makes sense to tell them but still feel like it’s so early. That’s why we initially booked the extra scan but will see what happens on Friday and then decide whether to tell them now at around 9 weeks or wait a few more weeks. The not drinking alcohol and tea/coffee will probably give it away for me 🤦🏼‍♀️ my parents know and a few friends etc. told my sister today actually and she said she had already guessed- probably because I haven’t had a tea in front of her for over a month!

Mamma36474 · 01/07/2024 16:39

Hi, I just wanted to say I had an early scan today and everything looks fine, dates are spot on.

I thought we would be telling family now, but I think we've been talked into a private NIPT so we may wait until week 12 when we would expect to get the results back.

EastLondonCoffeeFiend · 01/07/2024 17:10

@UrbanSquirrel genuinely laughing at your work colleague’s suspicions! I think I have the same sort of reputation because when I offered to the designated driver abstaining from drink when going out with my parents, they immediately guessed!

So far, I’ve been leaving work events early with various excuses- hopefully no one’s guessed yet! 🤞

EastLondonCoffeeFiend · 01/07/2024 17:14

I had my booking appointment with the midwife today. Very similar to @UrbanSquirrel ’s experience: urine sample, lots of questions about medical & family history and then a million blood tests.
It made me feel much calmer though, for some reason!

We decided not to go for the private early scan, after I freaked out about it being internal- but don’t know if I can wait another few weeks for 12 weeks. Does anyone know how likely it is that they can do abdominal at 10 weeks?! Could just about squeeze in and still have a 2 week gap between.

I had an abdominal one at 8 weeks. Can you speak to them first?

Mamma36474 · 01/07/2024 17:22

Why is a 2 week gap needed?

Also, anyone who is having a private NIPT and accompany scan, are you also have the NHS 12 week scan? Our private doctor said we could do the NIPT at 11 weeks, an accompanying scan at 12 weeks plus NIPT results, and there was no problem with also having a 12 week scan with the NHS. (Alternatively the private doctor will send the results to the NHS and they will happily accept this.)

elb1504 · 01/07/2024 17:24

@EastLondonCoffeeFiend I had abdominal scan last week at 8 weeks.

UrbanSquirrel · 01/07/2024 17:32

@Mamma36474 When I asked the midwife about the private scans and NIPT, she said we were welcome to do it, but 'if the NHS scan showed a different result, they would favour their own findings' over those of a private clinic.

By which I understand it to mean that the NHS are happy to you to have whatever extra private checks you yourself feel are necessary, but they won't compromise on their own process.

Approaches may vary in different areas but I didn't get the impression that (except perhaps in urgent findings - ectopics etc.) the NHS were particularly bothered about the results of private scans. I brought my private scan report and photo but the midwife didn't want to see it.

Hi everyone. Love hearing about all the scans, still a wait for me... Only 5+2 over here! No symptoms at all aside from sore boobs. Hoping the sickness stays away- I was very sick with both my daughters. 🤢 still coming to terms with having a third. Sometimes I am so excited and other times I am terrified!
