@DauntedAF congratulations!!!!! I feel in the same boat as I have 2 brothers and 3 nephews and just one niece. My partner's side he has a sister with 2 boys. So, we are desperate for a girl. I don't know what I am expecting yet, but honestly I wish it's a girl. ❤️ Lucky you!

elb1504 · 29/07/2024 14:29

@DauntedAF Congratulations another girl to the group!

We have a lot of boys on mine and husband's family and I have a little boy so kind of expecting boy again!

SBelfast · 29/07/2024 15:59

Congrats @DauntedAF that's exciting :)

The place I was meant to get my private scan and NIPT bloods at tomorrow called me to say they can't do the scan anymore as the sonographer who works Tuesdays can only do up to 12 weeks and I'm just over it.
I've my first midwife apt on Friday do they do a scan at it? Surely they must to confirm your pregnant at least? The letter is unhelpfully lacking in detail of what to expect. They did put in a leaflet about scans but wasn't clear if any this apt.

Generally you have a booking appointment with midwife where they go through all medical history etc... then you have 12 week scan at hospital. Not sure which one you have this week, if it's just midwife booking generally there won't be a scan but I might be wrong if it's in a hospital setting.

SBelfast · 29/07/2024 17:47

@elb1504 thanks, I'll be so annoyed if I don't get a scan now this week...:( just want to check everything still progressing and pregnancy is viable. Also was hoping to be able to start telling people, guess ill see whats what this week and maybe call to check about the apt and if not arrange a private scan. Feels like they should really do at least a basic scan so they don't waste their own time doing all the other tests if something has went wrong. My apt is midwife led but in a hospital maternity unit.

AnnieStar12 · 29/07/2024 18:20

Can I ask those who’ve had the NHS screening results, what the risk levels came back as?

Mine are
1/207 for T21
1/18,125 for T23
1/23,608 for T13

Ive been obsessing over my results since getting them last week, as the T21 seems fairly high and it’s making me feel anxious. I’ve since spoken to a really helpful midwife who explained it all to me. But the NHS system seems a bit odd that there’s just a hard line for high risk or low risk rather than a more gradual system. Anyways was just wondering what kind of numbers other people get, I know my age will impact it - I’m 41 - but if anyone is willing to share I’d be interested to see how they compare.

Officially into second trimester (assuming baby is still present and correct - touch wood - 12w scan later this week!) and have had several days of crippling headaches. Very unusual for me (I normally get maybe one a year) so guessing it's pregnancy related. ☹️ Feeling a bit sorry for myself.

Congratulations to everyone who has had their scans/NIPT results. It's so lovely to see and helps rekindle the excitement!!

Sorry to hear this :( if the headaches are severe, as they seem to be, please contact your midwife - as the guidance says headaches are common in early pregnancy but I was worried by your describing them as crippling. Probably nothing but worth getting checked x www.nhs.uk/pregnancy/related-conditions/common-symptoms/headaches/

QuantumPanic · 29/07/2024 20:35

Thanks @rcppab . I don't have any of the other symptoms and my BP is generally at the lower end, but I will keep an eye on it. Think it's more me being a wuss than anything.

Rockyslife · 29/07/2024 20:52

Hi I’m 10 weeks 5 days and had my nipt bloods taken last Friday. We have had two losses in a row very close together. The last baby had chromosome issues which were tested when I had surgery to remove. I’m so scared but also am thinking could it be a positive thing that I have got this far. Dating scan is next Monday but will only be 11 weeks 5 days but apparently that’s ok. Not sure whether to check

I’m sorry, but no you won’t get a scan at your booking and they don’t confirm you’re pregnant either. Have you had a date through for your first trimester scan with the NHS? It’s an anxious time waiting and wondering isn’t it. A private scan might give you some reassurance, annoying you’re paying all that money for NIPT and no scan!

SBelfast · 30/07/2024 08:23

Thanks @OrangeSlices998!
No I've not had anything from NHS to date and this first apt I'm 12 weeks 5 days so I'm pretty annoyed. This is my first pregnancy and they've sent me very little information to date, thank-god for Google and mumsnet. I also understand its important to do a scan under 14 weeks for the combined test. I've gone private for NIPT because I was already worried about the delays etc. Bah...:(
I'll call and double check there's 100% no scan and then book a private one I guess, its too bad this clinic couldn't do it as planned. I'll ask this morning if they've apts later in the week.

Sorry as I know I'm ranting now 😂but it's just not good enough. Especially if your vulnerable, alone or don't have access to Internet/private resources. Luckily I do but lots don't and they'll be left to fend for themselves during the most critical developmental period.

jaybeez · 30/07/2024 08:54

@SBelfast that's really rubbish, sorry to hear you've been messed around like that. I totally get why they want to do booking appointments and things further along, but it's really unacceptable that you're over 12 weeks and have no idea when your scan is. If I were you I would be phoning the maternity unit at your hospital to follow up, in case something has been missed?

herewegoagain123456 · 30/07/2024 09:01

Hey guys, so after some advice. How much is too much sick? I'm 10 weeks and then all of a sudden last night couldn't stop being sick. I would say in the last 12 hours I have been sick 25 times. Can't even keep water down.

Do I need to check baby's okay? Or can this be normal? I feel awful

Sorry to hear this, it sounds rotten :( if you can’t keep fluids down and have been sick that many times I’d contact your nearest early pregnancy unit. They’ll give you an anti sickness and some fluids and check you’re ok (I’ve been there already!). Vomiting in the absence of pain / bleeding etc is common but with that amount of vomiting you probably need to be seen. Promise you’ll feel soooo much better after it, those fluids are heavenly!

elb1504 · 30/07/2024 09:40

@SBelfast They are likely to book your scan at your booking appointment (mine did) and there may be a chance they get you in quite quickly, especially if you mention about it needing to be done before 14 weeks. Mine was booked for less than 2 weeks away. Hopefully you get some answers.

SBelfast · 30/07/2024 12:28

Thanks @jaybeez and @elb1504 appreciate it. I'm going to call them, not got through so far but I'd sharp pain last night and a dull ache in side last night till now with some light brown discharge so I'm feeling more stressed. Will see what they say.
Cried at my blood test for NIPT and they were very nice and got a nurse to come talk to me, she said I'm not too far along for early pregnancy unit so told me who to call now, and she thought with the pain they should scan me so fingers crossed!

@herewegoagain123456 that sounds awful! Definitely call and get some revitalising fluids. Hope you feel better soon and can take it easy!

You deserve to have a rant, this is terrible! Poor you.

The only thing I can think is whether there’s any chance you missed a letter about the scan? For all my other appointments, I got text reminders but the scan was only 1 letter so possibly easily missed..?! 🤞 I would definitely call and check though

retrievermum · 30/07/2024 13:40

@SBelfast thats ridiculous! Hope you’re doing okay lovely 💕 my scan was booked for two days after my booking appointment as they declared it an emergency, so hopefully they can get you in ASAP (especially if you say you’re worried about getting it done in time)

jaybeez · 30/07/2024 14:22

That sounds so stressful @SBelfast , hope all is sorted soon, and feel free to rant away.

Had my 12 week scan today and as expected it was too early for them to do the tests (measuring 10+6 when I should be 12+2) so have to go back in 2 weeks. Not worried though as growth matches up with what they saw at the private scan I had, plus I had the same with my first. I knew it was too early, but nice to have another scan anyway!

Apple22over7 · 30/07/2024 18:39

Hope I'm not too late to join the thread - only found out I was pregnant last Tuesday! There was some confusion over dates - going by last period I was 11 weeks, but there was a big question mark as I'd always had infrequent and irregular periods and as I'd had few symptoms I was convinced I couldn't be that far along. But they sorted my booking appointment anyway as they have to go by LMP. Had my booking appt yesterday, and they managed to book me for the 12 week scan today, which has put me at 11w+1 day as of today, EDD 17/02. It's been a whirlwind of a week to say the least!

@SBelfast that really sucks, hopefully they'll get the scan booked ASAP - I had a phonecall about 3 hours after my booking appointment yesterday to book my 12 week scan and they got me in today. So these things can work quite quickly, although I realise that's not much comfort when you're waiting. Hope it all goes well for you x

SBelfast · 30/07/2024 22:53

Thanks got the messages all! I felt better after my rant lol. I'm going to try getting through again tomorrow re apt and see what the craic is! The pain subsided so that's a relief. Will see how tonight goes. Thanks again @EastLondonCoffeeFiend , @jaybeez @retrievermum and @Apple22over7 - that must have been a surprise for you! :) there's someone else can't remember name who is on this thread and same as you found out as a nice surprise. 😊

Mamma36474 · 31/07/2024 15:05

Hello! I just had my NIPT results and 12w private scan - all looks fine and it's a girl! Nub theory worked!

I'm so excited. I was trying not to hope too much for a girl, but already having a boy I really wanted a girl. 🤩

We also told my boy and he's taking it very well, lots of cuddles for my tummy.

elb1504 · 31/07/2024 18:14

Had my screening results today so about 10 days after the scan/bloods for anyone who is wondering how long they take/still waiting.

Results were all 1 in 5000 which I think is possibly the lowest risk so that's another relief.

superj21 · 31/07/2024 18:44

Congrats @Mamma36474 another girl ! And great news for you @elb1504 😊

Welcome @Apple22over7 - that must have been quite a surprise !
