@superj21 blump made me 😂 I'm going to be using that going forward as I definitely have a mix of bloat and bump coming!

superj21 · 24/07/2024 15:26

@elb1504 I wish I could claim ownership but I did read it somewhere 😂 I feel like it's the perfect descriptor for this stage 😂

OrangeSlices998 · 24/07/2024 15:43

Struggling through the tiredness today 🥱🥱

Have a scan tomorrow, called EPAU after some pain & brown bleeding on Monday. Earliest I could get seen was tomorrow, it’s been a long week to wait

retrievermum · 24/07/2024 15:54

@superj21 with my first I was DEFINITELY pregnant looking at 14 weeks! I’d recommend a couple of maternity dresses just to be on the safe side! I’m already back in mine!

superj21 · 24/07/2024 15:58

@retrievermum this is great intel, thank you! I'm also wondering if I should get a maternity swimsuit or if that's overkill.. I just don't want to be uncomfortable

elb1504 · 24/07/2024 16:04

@superj21 With my 1st I went on holiday at 14 weeks and generally just wore normal clothes - loose dresses etc.. and wore my normal bikinis. Might be best with a few dresses in bigger sizes, maternity clothes are so expensive so if you can get away with non maternity I would.

Toriiaa · 24/07/2024 16:08

Oh my word! Blump! What an accurate term

I feel like my belly has definitely popped, but then again I was pregnant this time last year too 😂

I feel like my body is already waddling too! What's with that?! I'm trying to hide it as much as possible, I won't tell anyone til my bloods are back, not that it matters but at least you're aware if you have a baby coming in to the world who might have different needs.

superj21 · 24/07/2024 16:09

Yeah @elb1504 I'm thinking of just looser / floaty styles rather than maternity per se, other than the swimsuit. I could wear my normal bikinis fine but I'm not feeling super body confident right now so I thought a one piece might be best so I don't feel uncomfortable 😊 saw a seraphine on online which said it stretched with the bump but not sure if that's designed for once you start to show properly..

Roxttc · 24/07/2024 16:09

Had my 12 week scan today but unfortunately baby wasn’t complying - had a heart beat and measuring roughly 11w 4d or 11w 5d (I’m either 11 5/6) so was all good in that sense but couldn’t get clear measurements or view to do the NT test. I have to go back in 4 weeks for another scan but won’t be able to have the combined test at that point will have another one I think and maybe the quads she said? Wasn’t taking it all in!

Now I’m torn whether to spend £275 and get private NIPT testing done or not as 15.5 weeks seems a while to get to and then find out we may be high risk 😕 I’m 29 and no family history of Down’s syndrome or any of the other conditions they test for

UrbanSquirrel · 24/07/2024 16:29

@OrangeSlices998 Wishing you all the best for tomorrow. That's a long time to wait with worries, but I very much hope you will hear that all is well. Please keep us updated! Sending lots of good vibes in the meantime x

@Roxttc So sorry to hear that the baby was being awkward. Mine was too... As for the question of what to do now, I guess that's something you and your other half have to decide, weighing up the financial hit against (what seems to be) a fairly low-risk situation. As a matter of interest, because I'd already had an NIPT and got the results, I didn't have the combined test done yesterday, because the sonographer said 'the NIPT is far more accurate than anything we offer at this first stage'. She did manage to get a measurement for the NT but I got the feeling she was mainly doing it to double check that it matched the result we'd already got. So the NIPT does seem to be the gold standard. On the other hand, it costs an absolute bomb... Whatever you decide, I'm sure it'll be the right choice for you. Hugs x

On the 'blump' front, I saw a colleague this morning and she came up, very excited, and asked me if I was pregnant because she'd noticed my 'bump'. This could have been very awkward for both of us, under different circumstances, because I'm pretty sure that 'bump' is just podge... but, luckily for her, she was barking up the right tree. So I have now completely given up trying to hide anything from my colleagues, who appear to have Holmesian deductive skills, and have just admitted it officially...

@Roxttc Can you call your midwife and ask for the options to be explained again? I have heard of people who missed the cut off for the combined test being offered the NIPT (on the NHS) but I guess this will depend on your trust and also your risk profile. Why are they having you back so late? Could you ask for an earlier scan?

I've still got over a week until my 12w scan (will be closer to 14 weeks, so cutting it fine!) and also considering paying privately for NIPT. It is a massive amount of money (hoping I can get it done without the added cost of a private scan beforehand), but for me personally it's important to know that everything is ok (or not).

Oh wow 🤣 one of my colleagues did this to someone who was NOT pregnant and I was mortified for her. Number 1 on the list of things not to ask unless you're certain 😂

Piluka · 24/07/2024 17:30

@herewegoagain123456I I had the same issue with bleeding on week 8, just some spots but the nurses were not much concerned. I hope yours is ok.

@retrievermum we've only told parents and my boss because I was feeling very poorly and she was worried and one of my closest colleague as she was trying to recommend me some medicines for being sick and I didn't want to lie to her. My others colleagues I think they suspect something is going on as I had been sent off three occasions because my nauseas and this week I work half time. However, none has asked what exactly is happening or even though they knew, initially, I was going to have ivf they haven't asked anything regarding this either. Maybe they assume is part of the meds they give you for the IVF process. Anyway, I am dying to tell to everyone, specially at work as now everything looks very suspicious regarding my condition.

I hope the scan is going to be alright and everything looks normal. 🤞🤞🤞🤞

This is the guidance that’s come out recently, so you’ll definitely be offered it at some point ☺️

www.gov.uk/government/publications/respiratory-syncytial-virus-rsv-maternal-vaccination/a-guide-to-rsv-vaccination-for-pregnant-women

Interesting!!! My daughter had RSV at 10 weeks old and she was so poorly with it, on oxygen in hospital. And quite a few babies in her group also had it and ended up in hosp! Infact the entire children’s ward was pretty much RSV at the time!

EastLondonCoffeeFiend · 24/07/2024 18:48

Our 12 week scan was today and luckily everything looks absolutely fine! 😊 My due date was pushed back from 3rd Feb to 5th Feb, but I’m really happy with that because I thought it would be closer than 10th Feb.

We also had an awkward little one- the sonographer said the scan was “challenging” because of how much movement there was 😂 But they managed to get all the measurements in the end!

OrangeSlices998 · 24/07/2024 18:52

Thank you @UrbanSquirrel I’ll let you know how it goes. The pain and bleeding hasn’t gotten any worse, so that’s something. Bleeding has settled to nothing. Just anxious and exhausted.

LilacSnail · 24/07/2024 18:55

@Roxttc 4 weeks seems such a long wait at this point. Did she say why it had to be 4
weeks? I would have thought they’d call you back in a week.

@OrangeSlices998 good luck for tomorrow, hope all goes well.

Blume is fabulous 😂. I’m not showing yet but I have found myself starting to think about maternity leggings & jeans but then thinking it’s too early!

So far we’ve not really told anyone. We want to tell our DC first as she’s old enough to understand. I went for a private NIPT today, so hoping it worked ok (worried about it being inconclusive due to BMI). Provided NIPT comes back low risk & 12 scan is ok we’ll tell our DC. Then she can tell everyone else for us. xx

retrievermum · 24/07/2024 19:07

@LilacSnail ive just checked my ASOS account and I ordered maternity jeans end of September when I was pregnant with DD (who was born end of May!) so don’t worry about being too early! I also went to my 12 week scan in them this pregnancy as I don’t fit in anything else haha!

superj21 · 24/07/2024 19:08

Congrats @EastLondonCoffeeFiend 😁! Another wriggly little bean 🙂

Lemonbalm8 · 24/07/2024 19:40

Congrats @EastLondonCoffeeFiend 💚

UrbanSquirrel · 24/07/2024 19:54

Lovely news @EastLondonCoffeeFiend - thrilled for you! We seem to have quite the clutch of uncooperative babies this week 😂 xxx

So lovely seeing all the scan pics and to hear everyone's is going well ❤️ my scan is not for another 2 weeks when il be over 13 weeks! I did mention this at my booking appointment and the midwife said they always book you in for week 13 in my area as sometimes the 12 week ones aren't able to get the measurements if it's slightly too early. Which someone on here did say so fair enough. But still feels like such a wait !! Feeling anxious now as I've not had any private scans but my stomach is definitely expanding! Much more quickly than first time around but I was slimmer the first time too 🙈😂

Redapple21 · 24/07/2024 20:33

I also had a dream last night that I went for the scan and it was triplets! Ha ha I told my OH this morning and he looked a bit worried saying he hopes it's not a premonition! I said no it's probably just my over active mind and my expanding waist line!

UrbanSquirrel · 24/07/2024 20:42

Oh wow @Redapple21, you've put the fear of God into him now 😂 I genuinely think my husband would've had a breakdown even if it had been twins... x
