Continuation from thread 7 over here; https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/5070517-september-2024-thread-7?page=40

Can't believe we filled the last thread up already feels like it wasn't even made that long ago, gosh time is absolutely flying by!!

@WinsandSam - I'll have to ask about CBT for sure, thanks so much for the recommendation - maybe I'll actually get some help seeing as I'm pregnant!

I've been trying to get mental health support for... Well to be honest since teen-hood and realising my daily crying was not in fact "just my period/puberty" as every doctor told me it was (all males ofc, typical 🙄) so I don't hold out much hope if I'm being honest.
I originally wanted to wait until my MH was sorted before ttc, but after over a decade I was running out of fertile time frankly, so here I am still with crazy anxiety and emotional dysregulation, but what can ya do?! 😅

As requested a new thread for us all! 🥰 can't believe its thread 7 already! Then hopefully by thread 14 we'll all have our babies in our arms talkin...

@SantasRubiksCube also to add when i went to triage to get checked when I couldn’t shift a headache and had the visual issues a few weeks ago and they gave my dihydrocodeine which did the trick

PoppingUp · 03/07/2024 20:13

I'm trying to figure out which size of nappies to stock up on - I'm looking at the mamia range and there's a big overlap in the weight ranges for each newborn size so in theory an average sized newborn could fit into sizes 1,2 or 3.

Would more experienced parents recommend ordering all three and just seeing which fits best once baby arrives or would I be as well ordering size 2 and then worst case sending the DP out for bigger or smaller ones if they end up not being quite right? I don't want to over order stuff but there is also so much comfort in being over prepared!

Also, any thoughts on brands/volume of cotton wool and wet wipes to start off with would be gratefully received! Turns out my DP has a real disgust of wet wipes from his childhood- something about them being wet but looking like they should be dry? So that's going to be a fun one to navigate 🤣

SC126 · 03/07/2024 20:35

@SantasRubiksCube as someone who gets migraines with auras before I was even pregnant, what you described definitely sounds like an aura. I get like a pulsing blurred vision before the pain hits.

MudandMoet · 03/07/2024 20:40

@PoppingUp I've got 4 of the boxes of pampers size 1 plus 2 small packs that came as freebies with the Emma's Diary packs. I'm going to start buying size 2 this week, we've no idea what's needed until baby's here and we have an idea if she's a whopper or small also.

longingtobe23 · 03/07/2024 20:46

I stocked up on water wipes for the first few weeks got about 16 packs because they’re the most wet in my experience for those first super sticky newborn poops! But then any wipes will work as long as baby not sensitive 👌
I also went for kit&kin but I’ve only got 2 packs of nappies so far as I plan to see how I go then simply Amazon the rest

first baby I did huge bulk pamper boxes of about 50-60 ended up returning loads to tesco as he skipped a size and then grew out of some so fast! Luckily they swapped for me 😅

Evening all, has anyone had any symptoms of preeclampsia? All my midwife checks of urine and blood pressure have been fine and all scans of baby have been fine, I'm just getting myself in a bit of a tizz. I woke up today with the most awful pounding headache, I've been taking paracetamol and drinking plenty but it just won't shift, I still have it now and at work this lunchtime I had a funny few seconds, not really dizziness as such but was like my eyes couldn't focus and were all blurry, I was ok again after a minute or two but I've never experienced that before, even when I've had migraines. I'm guessing bad headaches and blurry eyes wouldn't just happen suddenly one day if it was preeclampsia, would be more of a build up? I'm going to see how I feel in the morning and if my head is still pounding I'll call midwife

Have you had BP and urine checked by midwives today/when you were experiencing the headaches? I had pre-eclampsia in 2020 and I didn’t have many of the classic symptoms - no headaches, no visual disturbances, no chest pain etc. just my slowly-rising BP, swollen legs and urine tests that finally got it diagnosed. Deffo speak to triage and get their opinion. It could just be a headache but worth getting their advice x

On the back of the diapers chat I’ve been told by several people that the two overall best diapers are from Aldi and Asda the ones with frills.
Several people have told me to not bother with pampers as apparently they are outperformed by others. So I am planning to stop at these two shops I actually don’t shop at to buy just diapers.

tryingfortwo2 · 03/07/2024 21:54

@PoppingUp 100% size 1 of mamia will do grand.

With nappies, the weight is a super, super rough guide, it’s more about the shape of your baby. My niece for example has the most gorgeous, chunky thighs and is 6 months younger than my DD but has almost always been in the same nappy size to accommodate her legs. But size 1 will absolutely fit a newborn, unless they’re teeny, in which case your hospital will have premmie nappies on hand until you can get some.

tryingfortwo2 · 03/07/2024 21:57

P.s. you could always have a wee pack of size 2 on hand just in case, but we were definitely a couple of months down the line with an average sized baby before we needed them, so my bulk stock will be size 1.

MrsM89 · 03/07/2024 22:19

I'm stocking up on size 1 pampers. As for wipes I don't use them for the first few months just water and cotton wool. Xx

My daughter wears the Mamia nappies and she’s 2yrs and in a size 5.. I think you’d be fine stocking up on 1’s and 2’s for now! Midwives suggest cotton wool soaked in warm water I think to begin with? Water wipes are also amazing, but super expensive compared to other brands, they’re worth it.. just hard to upkeep ££ in comparison to others lol

SantasRubiksCube · 04/07/2024 06:06

Thanks to everyone that replied, I've woken up again with awful headache and aura like the migraines I've had in the past, I've taken some paracetamol but I'll call midwife today just to check, hope this isn't a regular thing now usually when I've had migraines they go with just some paracetamol and sleep

Lillers · 04/07/2024 07:13

I’m doing a bad thing. Because of my GD, all my appointments with the community midwives have been cancelled and rebooked with the diabetes team.

I would have had a community midwife appointment today. I haven’t told work that it’s been cancelled and am thoroughly enjoying a lie in 🤭

malimoon · 04/07/2024 08:55

@Lillers treat yo self!

rupertbear91 · 04/07/2024 09:06

@Lillers I don't blame you!

I'm sat waiting for my next heart scan they are already running 20 minutes late and the guy next to me in the waiting room is constantly tapping his metal walking stick on the floor it's taking all my self control to not let some pregnancy rage out at him and tell him to shut up!

Emmaev · 04/07/2024 09:43

@SantasRubiksCube I had this the other day and went to triage. My head was pounding and my eyes were blurry. I had pre eclampsia with my daughter however I didn’t actually have many symptoms to begin besides high bp and swelling. I ended up having a migraine the other day but a lot of pre eclampsia symptoms are similar to regular pregnancy issues.

Id always say get checked, although my previous pre eclampsia was a slow burner I had a friend who developed it overnight and had her daughter 2 days later.

Emmaev · 04/07/2024 09:45

In regards to fundal height, I know it’s not very accurate at all. With my daughter I was measuring correctly, but a growth scan showed she was 3 weeks behind on growth. They said she’d be born 4lb 4 but she ended up weighing 3lb 8oz

This time I’m measuring 33cm at 31 weeks and she’s measuring on the 90th centile on growth scans. They do say to give or take a few centimetres. And it’s not an exact science.

PinkWatermelon88 · 04/07/2024 10:20

@PoppingUp We used mamia too and my dad was chief nappy buyer. He must have bought aldi out of their supply multiple times over as I was in the attic last night and found 6 packs 😂😂 so save any left overs for next baba if it’s a possibility.
I always started on 1, and my girl was 7lb 6oz and was quite a wee thing and stayed wee. I’d say she was in 1s for maybe 3m

PinkWatermelon88 · 04/07/2024 10:25

Sleeping !
Pals! With #1 we coslept from 3 days old as she was allergic (not literally of course just typical NB!) to the cot and we desperately needed sleep. We never managed to get her out and I’m still paying the price 2y later and so I really want things to be different for this baby.

I want to try swaddling again. Last time I got the Love to Dream swaddle when she was maybe 6m but I think I missed the boat on it as she was too settled between us and hell or heaven wouldn’t shift her. This time I want to do it from the beginning.

Any advice? Arms up or arms down? Gonna go with the zip/velcro ones cos I can’t figure out the blankets 😂 Our room is quite cold and it’ll be September but yet I’m paranoid about them overheating so I’ll prob stay Tog 1 for a while and make sure they’re cosy in their long sleeve vest and a warm grow underneath.

Cat2022 · 04/07/2024 10:31

@PinkWatermelon88 my daughter kicked any blankets off (and still does) we used the arms up love to dream swaddles from about 1.5 weeks until she started rolling had both a 1 tog and 2.5 tog (she was born in March but it was snowing when she arrived) I think it just depends on the baby though so when this one comes if he doesn’t like the arms up il try one of the Velcro ones seems like loads of brands do similar ones.

MudandMoet · 04/07/2024 10:32

Hope you feel better soon @SantasRubiksCube it must be awful.

@Lillers I would have done the exact same 😉

Ive just done a quick Google on the nappies and in one study (I bet there's been loads done though) the Sainsburys nappies came top, Aldi mamia came second and Pampers came third. Tbf most other supermarket brands were quite high on the list following that. I just figure I'll stick to pampers because I can get them everywhere and I won't have to make a special trip to a specific shop. If I've over purchased I'll donate them to a parents in need group (or similar) along with all the tiny outfits that'll last probably just weeks.

September 2024 - Thread 8!
Decaffe · 04/07/2024 10:47

How many nappies do they get through a day/week?

PinkWatermelon88 · 04/07/2024 10:57

@Cat2022 good idea! I’ll maybe get 1 of the arms up and a set of the Velcro ones and see how we go. Shops won’t shut once baba comes anyway 😂 so I can do an order and have them within a few days.
@Decaffe jeepers mine was doing around 4 poos a day and probably 6-8 wet nappies. In total maybe 12-15?

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 04/07/2024 11:07

Another one here who prefers the aldi nappies over any of the others!

I actually used their formula as well for DS - i learnt its the exact same as Aptamil and made in the same warehouse etc. I like aldis extra sensitive wipes too - and it's nice to be able to get everything in once place rather than darting round numerous shops lugging a baby around!

Khanga27 · 04/07/2024 11:13

I was recommended pura nappies so I’ve bought those but open to whatever people have found good to be honest.
i know people who have said Pampers has brought their baby out in a rash if their baby has sensitive skin.
