Continuation from thread 7 over here; https://www.mumsnet.com/talk/pregnancy/5070517-september-2024-thread-7?page=40

Can't believe we filled the last thread up already feels like it wasn't even made that long ago, gosh time is absolutely flying by!!

@WinsandSam - I'll have to ask about CBT for sure, thanks so much for the recommendation - maybe I'll actually get some help seeing as I'm pregnant!

I've been trying to get mental health support for... Well to be honest since teen-hood and realising my daily crying was not in fact "just my period/puberty" as every doctor told me it was (all males ofc, typical 🙄) so I don't hold out much hope if I'm being honest.
I originally wanted to wait until my MH was sorted before ttc, but after over a decade I was running out of fertile time frankly, so here I am still with crazy anxiety and emotional dysregulation, but what can ya do?! 😅

As requested a new thread for us all! 🥰 can't believe its thread 7 already! Then hopefully by thread 14 we'll all have our babies in our arms talkin...

@MudandMoet sainsburys just recently changed their nappies and they aren’t as good but previously they were excellent.

From 1.5 years in nappies honestly that’s part of the issue is the companies change them constantly and also as little one grows what works for them changes too so I wouldn’t buy loads in advance. We have used pampers, tesco, Sainsbury’s, Aldi and most recently boots little stories and I also dabbled in reusables for a bit. Aldi are probably our overall most used and when she first started crawling their nappy pants were good.

cd24x · 04/07/2024 11:33

Another one here for supermarket brand nappies. We started off in Aldi Mamia, then switched to Morrisons Nutmeg when DS started doing larger wees. Plus Morrisons was our normal supermarket so made sense to get them with weekly shop.

@Decaffe they get through loads initially. We were probably doing a nappy change at most feeds, which to begin with was every 2 hours or so. So definitely looking at a minimum of 12 a day.

I've reached a bit of a breaking point at work. My plan was to work until 30th August, then take 2 weeks of annual leave and start maternity leave on my due date (18/09). The last few weeks at work have been an absolute nightmare, and with the GD diagnosis I can feel my stress levels creeping up. So I've just told my manager that I want to bring my mat leave date forward to 38 weeks (04/09), then use my remaining annual leave before that. So now looks like I've only got 4 weeks left. Can't say he was thrilled by the decision, especially as they've not got my maternity cover in place yet, but he understands as his wife had stressful/complicated pregnancies. Now just got to wait for everyone to start panicking about who is going to cover what! 😬

PoppingUp · 04/07/2024 11:39

Thanks all! I've got a boots and an Amazon order of bits winding their way to me now all ready to be decanted into the hospital bag and nappy caddy things. Very exciting 😅

I'm hoping to BF but have ordered one of the wee ready prepped packs of formula with teats as I think it'll be reassuring to know there's some in easy reach and I'll actually be less likely to use it if I'm feeling relaxed about it being an easily available option. Anyone else have a contrary brain like that?

We've completely neglected to start on nursery furniture or decor but I'm not worried too much about that as baby will be in with us for months anyway. Nesting brain will probably kick in next week and I'll be posting again panicking about it though!

The only bits I still need to properly research are

  • sleep bags (really cold old house so worrying slightly about keeping rooms the right temperature for the baby. We've got a log fire, which is great fun, but that then makes the living room really hot. I'm thinking of investing in one of those Dyson electric heater things so that I've got a bit more control over the temperature of whatever room the baby is in at any given time.)
  • nursing bras (usually a 34FF, I've been wearing a 36FF which has been doing me through general pregnancy bloating but am slightly apprehensive about what size I might need by the time baby is here and where to get good quality larger bras when my go to would usually be bravisimo)
  • first toys (I still haven't decided whether to be aesthetic or to accept that little ones prefer the garish stuff!)
longingtobe23 · 04/07/2024 11:42

I am cleaning like mad woman today in prep for the cleaners tomorrow LOL - so mostly I am sorting piles and putting stuff in its home and chucking it all when needed.
I decided to forgo the 4D scan as baby is breech and low placenta so I don’t want to risk not seeing anything good and booked myself a deep clean (which I’m finding hard now) the excitement is real 😂 Also going to carry on for end of pregnancy and after C - section if they’re decent. It sounds silly but I want to soak up all the moments when she’s here not be crying about dirty bathrooms as husbands idea of clean isn’t the same as mine he does try though 😅

PinkWatermelon88 · 04/07/2024 11:54

@PoppingUp you are absolutely not silly for having formula in the house. I BF until my girl was 16m, but until the 2ish week mark I was having so many issues. Blocked ducts, cracked nipples, over supply... it was hell. One night I cried and cried and cried and god bless him, my partner took off in the car searching for ANY pharmacy open for formula. None were. This time we're going to be SO much more prepared and have it to hand. A fewformula bottles isn't going to harm your BF journey, and they could actually save your sanity.
I DESPISE the EBF term.... it should be IBF, inclusively breast fed. Because sometimes formula is needed and no shade or shame should be thrown.

I'd also get the MAM shields and the silver cups too, just to have them on hand. I sued the Weleda nipple cream and found it amazing but the silver cups are primo.

Also need to suss bras. I've been living in sports bras/my old nursing bras but they've seen better days and look horrendous haha. Theyre only the SML sizing, and truth be told I've no idea what size I am now.. and if it will change when I birth, and my how much etc etc.

PinkWatermelon88 · 04/07/2024 11:56

@longingtobe23 I read that as you booked in for a GYNAE deep clean instead of a scan and I was both shocked and intrigued. You meant a cleaner... right, right, right makes WAY more sense. I LAUGHED SO HARD! 😂

longingtobe23 · 04/07/2024 12:47

@PinkWatermelon88 hahahahaha oh good god! I mean I love LuAnna the podcast and they talked recently about some steam vagina experience 🙃😂 but no no just a clean of the house please 😂

amazing! Probably my badly worded post but happy to make you laugh 😂

Jojod12 · 04/07/2024 15:52

Hi All, finally had my growth scan from yesterdays worry. They have said baby is on the 11th centile, i think this is worrying but they don't seem too concerned. Has anyone else baby plotted the same with their baby's?

MudandMoet · 04/07/2024 16:37

@BeautyAndTheBump1 my midwife told me that the aldi formula and aptamil were the same a few weeks ago too. I wonder what the price difference is? I don't have an aldi close and tend to do online deliveries for groceries from Ocado, Sainsbury’s or Morrisons (I get bored with the same snap so like to mix it up) just thinking it might be worth checking that price difference out though 🤔

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 04/07/2024 16:43

@Jojod12 I had a growth scan yesterday and she came back at 17th centile, not worried either, I'm only 28+5 so got alot of growing yet! And they only really get concerned if their growth reduces over time

@mudandmoet I've just had a look online, £7.09 for 800g of the aldi formula or £7.99 for 900g, aptamil is £13.50 for 800g! So a big difference esp if they're a milk monster and guzzling through it (like my first born 😂)

malimoon · 04/07/2024 16:45

@Jojod12 my understanding is that some babies are just small so as long as you're in the normal range (which you are - it's a range), they care more about the baby continuing to grow on the same trajectory so staying around 11th rather than dropping further. But that's just my understanding and others may have direct experience!

I have to say my growth scan (which went the other way, 92nd percentile) wasn't hugely informative, they were like "well he's big but he's within the normal range", then checked if I was booked in for the diabetes test (which I was anyway) and that was it. So I think even if you're on either end of the scale it's not worrying in itself, it's more a data point that they will use to track from in future.

TripleESept24 · 04/07/2024 16:55

Hi all!!

Pram question!! We went and pushed a few around and played taking them up and down etc last week. We have decided we like the Venicci Upline full travel system.

First query.... Do ALL cars require the isofix base or not?! I'm getting a new car end of July so wanted to check? This was not a thing 20 years ago when I had my daughter!!

It's available all over the place online! Does anyone know of or used any sites where you can then use any vouchers codes or get an extra % discount for first order? Also clearpay would be good we wanna spread it out!

I just wanna get the best deal. Looking around £999.

Thanks

WinsandSam · 04/07/2024 16:56

@PinkWatermelon88 @PoppingUp I can highly recommend M&S nursing bras. I've been wearing them for around a month and they come in dress sizes. 2 for £20 too!

@longingtobe23 the yoni episode was hilarious and disturbing 😂

Cat2022 · 04/07/2024 17:05

@TripleESept24 I think all new cars sold now have to have isofix points but you don’t need to use them. It’s not actually any safer to use isofix vs an infant carrier that is fit with the seatbelt except for potential user error.

My car isn't "new" either it's 10 years old!! A vauxhall insignia

Why does it feel like it's a necessity to have an isofix base then?

Xur · 04/07/2024 22:08

@TripleESept24 I looked into it and it is not legally required to have an Isofix base, however it is required to fix the seat with the isofix base OR the seatbelt and apparently it’s been proven that isofix based are safer.

LSW82 · 04/07/2024 23:57

When baby was in their infant carrier & seat coming in & out of car it was much quicker & easier to clip in iso fix base than use seatbelts! I have the spinning one which I find especially handy now with a wriggly toddler!!

Decaffe · 05/07/2024 00:21

Is it just me who can’t envisage this level of tiredness, apathy, uncomfortable-ness (is that a word), for another 75 days or so…?! Two and a half months?!

FuppinNora · 05/07/2024 03:54

@Decaffe yes I thought this yesterday, everytime I move now is an effort and if I don't move I get a pain in my back or hip. Out of breath when walking, legs feel heavy! I'm v grateful to be pregnant but can't wait to feel halfway normal and sleep on my stomach. I see things needing to be done but just can't be arsed.

Lillers · 05/07/2024 04:00

@Decaffe Yep, wide awake here. Little cat decided to come up for a cuddle at about 3, which was adorable but I automatically flip onto my back when she comes up, and tonight it made me feel really odd. It’s the first time that’s happened so I reckon the third trimester blood flow on your back issue has kicked in. I was worried about it so sat up, and now feel fine, but am fully awake and have got up to watch the election results come in.

Xur · 05/07/2024 04:11

I see I’m not the only one up! I am now back on me feet but my husband is sick now and he woke me up 0300 am by huffing and puffing to body aches and feeling poorly. I can’t really say nothing about waking nights because I’m about to have 2-3 more years of that now but I’m just so over going to work now…

BeautyAndTheBump1 · 05/07/2024 09:30

Definitely starting to feel the heavy pressure especially just as I stand up or sit down I can just feel the weight and pressure down below!

Decaffe · 05/07/2024 13:04

When am I supposed to have these iron tablets - I never leave it three hours between eating and I have a hot drink hourly! 😳😂

malimoon · 05/07/2024 13:08

I stayed up all night watching the election... regrets... luckily I'm wfh so only had to drag myself onto the sofa hahaha

HRP1990 · 05/07/2024 14:55

I just recieved baby’s red book in the post 🥹 if it didn’t feel real before, it definitely does now!
