Hi everyone,

New thread for those of us due in November 2024. Old faces and new: welcome!

The last thread got a bit quieter as the Facebook group seems to be picking up. Link is here: fb.me/g/p_dSrSRkjpYfziyYWj/jkEMUg9j
It will expire in 48 hours so just ask if you need a new one!

Looking forward to hear how everyone is getting on as we approach/enter the second trimester ⭐️

@strawberrycake12 little cap sleeves for a winter baby x

Welshcake15 · 15/05/2024 22:49

@SouthwestSis we have a few friends who have fertility issues and/or have had missed miscarriage detected at the 12 week scan etc. It's not easy, but what we've done is messaged to tell them our news and then left the ball in their court. Thankfully, they've all been absolutely lovely about it, but we'd braced ourselves for them needing to distance themselves for a while.

I think hard as it is, you can't affect how someone else reacts to your news, and I'm sure even if you do get a bad reaction they're not mad at you, just sad for themselves. If they need to protect themselves then you may just need to accept that, however hard that is for you.

muddlingthrou · 16/05/2024 07:14

@SouthwestSis - this is my second IVF baby after a lot of heartache trying and failing to conceive naturally!

As @Welshcake15 said, giving your friend the space to process the news privately is a kind thing to do. I remember a period when it seemed I was hearing a friend was pregnant every other day (or at least that's what it felt like!). I was never upset with any of them - in fact I was so happy for them, but I did have a private cry about the unfairness of life.

Once you've told them, don't ignore them but also let them take the lead on how much of your pregnancy you share with them. I was always happy to hear about my friends' pregnancy experiences but I know others really struggle.

The fact you're worrying about this means you're a good pal and I'm sure your friendship will survive this experience. Wishing your friend all the luck in the frankly brutal infertility experience xx

SouthwestSis · 16/05/2024 08:21

Thanks both for your advice, you're right there is nothing I can do to make the news any less hurtful for her.

She and her OH are getting to a significant checkpoint in their adoption process next week and I know she is anxious to get through that so I'm waiting until they are on the other side of that.

The funny thing is that I could be on mat leave and she on adoption leave at the same time which could potentially be amazing if she isn't too affected by my news but I know I can't get my hopes up.

Just marking my place on the new thread!

13 weeks tomorrow and yet I think I’ve felt the most tired today I’ve ever felt yet 🤣 waiting for my second trimester glow up…… 👀

ChocolateSaxophone · 16/05/2024 10:09

A symptoms update from 14 weeks today. I'm feeling a little better all in all. I managed to get up with my alarm this morning which is a huge achievement, even though it was 9am not my pre-pregnancy-normal of 6:30am. But I'll take it. I get tired in the afternoons, so trying to figure out if it's "X hours after waking" or something specific to the time of day. I also seem to get a headache at about 2pm which does not shift with paracetamol or eating or drinking and I just have to live with it. So that's annoying.

I haven't needed anti-nausea medication in the morning since last week either, but occasional evening pre-dinner nausea and post-dinner heartburn/reflux still remain so the giant bag of medication is never too far away. Part of me wonders if this is connected to the headaches, as I started to get them when I was in hospital using the new medication, but I have had them every day even days without taking anything for nausea. Unsure.

Has anyone else figured out the headaches thing? They're really bad.

muddlingthrou · 16/05/2024 10:53

@ChocolateSaxophone - I could've written your post myself, so sending lots of sympathy! I can feel the headache creeping in throughout the afternoon and haven't yet figured out anything to solve it. I've tried food, water, caffeine, no caffeine, paracetamol... I get a bit of relief from fresh air but it doesn't last. I looked back at my pregnancy app for last time and I also recorded headaches around this time and they seem to have lifted when I turned 16 weeks so fingers crossed (that'll be Monday for me!) good luck to us both 😣

Cazzy87 · 16/05/2024 11:56

i'm still here but been on the FB group a bit more... had 12 wk scan all ok but have to go back tues for another scan as they couldnt get nuchal measurement due to babys position! then have 16 wk appt on 12th june! the nhs have now put due date as 24/11 ❤😁

Daydreamer94 · 16/05/2024 11:57

Hi everyone, I have been a bit MIA as not been doing too well mentally and physically. I had my 12 week scan today and went in as 12+4 only to come out as 13+3 based on baby’s length which is a whole week off. Relieved that they said everything looks healthy and that baby is doing well for its gestation. Still struggling on and off with nausea but my ptyalism is really getting me down as making it impossible for me to be in any social situations.
A little photo scan of the baby with a very visible nub, doctor took a guess and said girl.

hope you are all doing well 💕

Gosh that is an extremely girly scan looking at nub and round head 🥰

piechipsgravy · 16/05/2024 15:54

@Daydreamer94 beautiful scan! Hope you start to feel better soon ❤️

Today we confirmed 3 nursery visits for the end of this month 😱 It feels far too early but apparently places get booked up quickly around me!

14 weeks & 5 days, as we speak.
Nausea is slowly subsiding. Haven’t vomited for a few weeks, and my appetite is building! I have a little bump, which is very exciting! Just can’t wait to feel them move now. We’ve got a gender scan at the 17 week point, which I’m very much looking forward to, and I’ve been expanding my maternity wardrobe, and started buying stuff for the baby ☺️

ChocolateSaxophone · 17/05/2024 09:37

@muddlingthrou fingers crossed the headaches do go soon. Mine was slightly better yesterday but still present from 2.15 until 6.45! Ridiculous.

ChocolateSaxophone · 17/05/2024 09:39

@Daydreamer94 looks very similar to my baby's scan and the nub queens on Facebook said girl for me!

Oh really! I would love to have another girl as I have one already and just love being a girl mum 🥰 we will have a private scan in a few weeks to confirm!

muddlingthrou · 17/05/2024 14:26

@ChocolateSaxophone - I woke up this morning and no headache yet. I feel great! Long may it continue and hope anyone feeling rubbish joins me soon xx

Saffster2024 · 17/05/2024 16:55

Nuchal results today, 1 in 491 for T21. I’m 35 so this is technically a ‘good’ result but feels high risk compared to 1:4100 with previous pregnancy 4 years ago. Not sure how I feel overall.

waryandbored · 17/05/2024 16:56

Can anyone see a nub on my scan? Everyone keeps saying I must be having a girl because of how bad my sickness has been but I can’t see anything on the scan!
My return to work was really tough. I have been sicker this week than last week and ended up having to go home at lunchtime today because I just couldn’t handle being upright anymore. They’re being really supportive which helps but I do feel a bit useless. Thank god it’s Friday!

piechipsgravy · 17/05/2024 17:48

@Saffster2024 I got 1:284. Are you going to pay for NIPT?

@waryandbored cute scan!

OP posts:
Saffster2024 · 17/05/2024 18:12

I am worried that NIPT might give a higher or same risk and therefore cause more confusion. Seem to be a lot of false high risk results post in forums. I don’t know what to do.

Catopia · 17/05/2024 18:25

@piechipsgravy @Saffster2024 I've been given 1:169, and have been offered the NIPT for free as part of a research project extending the normal 1:150 offering. We're just trying not to worry at the moment, as the odds are still good for everything being ok, although I did have a big wobble this morning. Trying to concentrate on the excitement of finding out the sex earlier than 20w scan and not worry about the reason been offered it in the first place at the moment.

If it helps, usual risk for 35yo is 1:272 so you could think of it that your risk is almost twice times lower than most people your age. And even the usual risk level for 35yo is not referred for further testing 🤔
