Welcome @deliwoman1 ! Congratulations! I've had very few symptoms in both pregnancies and it's gone ok so I hope the same for you! And thank you, I'm 36 so that probably didn't help but I saw that the papp-a was quite low which triggered the referral... But the numbers are on the lower end to refer so I'm trying not to worry. The midwife said I'll hear back in 2-3 weeks (I'm not in the UK) which seems a very long time. But I guess although it feels in limbo, the pregnancy is still growing and going so hopefully all is still good and it doesn't change much. Hope your scan goes well!

@AbbiL0u thank you! Pregnancy and having a little one is just anxious all the time really 😅 this screening result didn't help though! But the more info the better I guess.

On the bright side my toddler has just started sleeping through the night for the first time, he's on the lower end of sleep 🤣 so for the first time in two years I'm getting actual solid sleep and I'm so happy.

RedRobyn2021 · 02/06/2024 09:42

Those of you who are are the second time round, has there been many differences this time?

Mine feels like exactly the same as last time

It feels pretty similar to me @RedRobyn2021 but I had a bit last time and I'm having a girl this time!

I think having a toddler already does make it harder as I can't just sleep all the time like I want.

Have you found it harder or easier this time?

RedRobyn2021 · 09/06/2024 09:20

@itsmabeline probably harder, just because of having a dependent. But the actual symptoms are identical.

I'm 12 weeks today but I don't have my scan until the 17th

Desperate to know if I'm having a girl or a boy, it's so hard having to wait so long. I thought about getting a private scan but the place we went to last time is £80

littlepanda88 · 09/06/2024 09:33

@RedRobyn2021 hey how are you feeling today? I'm hoping a little better? I can definitely sympathise with you, I remember when pregnant with my second, my first was only a 1 and I found it very difficult - he was crawling and into everything and I was just sick all the time! It is tough, but it will pass!

I've my 12 week scan on Tuesday, it def hasn't flew in! I am finding it ok as my wee ones are older now. But I do remember how it was when they weren't - just remember it won't last :) hopefully you start to feel better soon!

RedRobyn2021 · 09/06/2024 10:20

@littlepanda88 yes I do feel better than I did! That was a really bad day, thank god for my mother, I couldn't eat or get out of bed, I vomited before I went to sleep as well but fortunately in the morning I felt better. Except I have a cold now as well 😂 curtsy of my toddler, all my sinuses in my nose and ears are all swollen. Feel like I'm falling to bloody bits!

I know it's hard to believe but I swear I'm usually a healthy person, pregnancy just destroys me

I keep thinking I'm going to start feeling better soon because a few weeks back I had some really good days, but it's not happening for now. If it's anything like my last pregnancy I'm almost half way to feeling better, 12-13 more weeks to feeling fairly normal

We always wanted three children but i don't think i could do this again, how on earth do you manage?

littlepanda88 · 09/06/2024 10:26

The thing about pregnancy is it does affect everyone so differently! I remember being so miserable when carrying both of my boys (constant vomiting, sickness, couldn't even keep water down or get out of bed etc) and also remember a couple of my friends who were pregnant and they didn't get any sickness! I remember feeling so down and wondering why me!

I think it's hard to stay positive when you're like that because it's not the "normal" you! I really hope it passes soon for you - or at least eases a lot. It's very tough with another little one so give yourself credit - if you have some support it makes all the difference. I put off having another for 6 years and I think the sickness was the main reason! Now that mine are a bit older and in school etc it is a bit easier - but I think it's all about taking one day at a time.

Don't be hard on yourself - it will all be worth it as well :) x

Does anyone know the answer to this question

When having the genetic testing at your dating scan, do you have a blood test as well?

RedRobyn2021 · 10/06/2024 10:56

I'm sure I read somewhere when I was pregnant with my first they needed to be done before you were 14 weeks pregnant

Lucylaughing · 10/06/2024 11:19

@RedRobyn2021 I'm having my 12 week scan next week. They will take blood as part of the test that gives you the risk for Down's / Patau's / Edward's syndromes.

I also had blood at my booking appointment (10 weeks). This was for a number of things including blood type, HIV, syphilis, sickle cell, etc etc.

Not sure which you mean by the genetic testing?
X

Do you mean NIPT or NT check by genetic testing?

Where I am they do the bloods (Papp-a and free hcg) around week 8, then NT at the 12 week scan, so you get the ‘risk factor’ document then and there.

RedRobyn2021 · 10/06/2024 14:31

@Lucylaughing @Copenhagener

Oh yes I had bloods at my 8 week booking appointment. Managed to get hold of my midwife and she confirmed bloods are done again at the same appointment as the dating scan.

How has everyone found their midwives so far?

I was really impressed with mine, I went in feeling a bit daunted but she was amazing and we were 100% on the same page which was so reassuring, not what I was expecting tbh

Lucylaughing · 10/06/2024 21:37

@RedRobyn2021 yeah mine was really nice, she's leaving at the end of the summer though to become a health visitor instead. I'm hoping they'll all be nice and easy to talk to!

I love my midwife 🥰 she was the same one for DD too (not at the birth) but she feels like a friend now, I look forward to our appointments hahaha!

so glad you have a nice one too! X

Copenhagener · 13/06/2024 10:55

Hey all.

Had my first midwife appointment today! I was curious how often you meet yours where you are, and what gets discussed in your first session?

Mine was 30 minutes, she asked my fertility history, some health and lifestyle questions, and if I would be breastfeeding. It was pretty concise. I’m in week 14. She was nice though.

It depends on whether it’s your first pregnancy and or if you’re high risk. You don’t see them much until later in your pregnancy. Both of my first appointments was same as your and bloods.

MissMadam · 13/06/2024 11:48

I’ve had my 12 week scan and baby is looking good. I had really lovely lady at my scan who took her time to show me everything. Just waiting for my screening results now.

Aardbeien · 13/06/2024 17:17

I'm 15 weeks now, nausea is still coming and going but the headaches are so bloody severe. The midwife said it's not a concern yet, but I don't know how many days I've suffered headaches that paracetamol just don't touch. I'm at my wits end with it.

Lucylaughing · 13/06/2024 19:29

@MissMadam good news about the scan! Mine is on Monday, feeling nervous!

@Aardbeien I've had some horrendous headaches too, it's really hard to deal with. I get migraines around my cycle normally so I think I'm prone to them when hormones are all over the place. Paracetamol has been doing nothing for me either. Have you tried the non-medicated stick called 4Head? It's like a clear rub on thing like a lip balm, it's kind of a tingly menthol feeling. Sometimes that gives me some relief along with a lie down in a darkened room! You can also buy ice packs etc for headaches that can help

Thank you so much for the response, I've tried white tiger balm for the head, and lying down. It helps a bit, but I'll look for that 4head stuff to try using at work. I'm a bit relieved it's not just me struggling with it. Fingers crossed it's not an ongoing thing.

Lucylaughing · 13/06/2024 19:53

@Aardbeien ah yeah, it works like the white tiger balm but better IMO - also more work friendly as it doesn't smell of anything and you don't have to get it on your hands, you just swipe it on from the tube!
Really hope they clear up for you soon.

Hi all, only just found this thread! I’m 15 weeks pregnant and had my 12 week scan just over 2 weeks ago now… I haven’t had any results from the blood screening test. Should I presume no news is good news? I’ve tried messaging my midwife but I think she might be on annual leave!

For me they said they would call in 7 days if not good news and then if good news it would be a letter in the post within two weeks. So probably....!

Eejitmum101 · 19/06/2024 10:10

Not pregnant so hope don’t mine me posting
But wishing all you ladies a safe healthy pregnancy and hope everything goes well for you all!
