Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.
If you’re new to the thread, we are a friendly and supportive bunch all in it together and hoping to welcome our new additions in November 2024!

@purplecolouroffunk so sorry to hear that. There have been quite a few cases in our November group of women who were measuring a week behind and then saw a heartbeat at a rescan so you definitely aren't out yet. Late ovulation + later implantation could add up to a weeks difference in dates. However I completely understand being worried or apprehensive x

waryandbored · 09/04/2024 14:56

@purplecolouroffunk Sorry to hear that your scan wasn’t great news today. I am also measuring a full week behind where my LMP put me. But when I was scanned on Friday they saw progress and a heartbeat so I am focusing on that and hoping for the best.
Hoping for a good outcome for you. When is your next scan?

@purplecolouroffunk I'm so sorry, that really sucks. And to have to wait a week assuming the worst 😢 I'm thinking of you xx

purplecolouroffunk · 09/04/2024 16:02

@waryandbored it’s just such a hopeless feeling. I’m just 100% expecting the worst cause they were so pessimistic at the EPU. The sonographer also mentioned a wee bruise on the sac itself.

At what point were you measured to be a week behind? And how far along were you at your scan on Friday? I’m so glad things are looking okay for you so far!

I was first scanned at what I thought was 6w but they only saw a gestational sac. Then again 4 days later at which point they saw a yolk sac as well. They didn’t date me until 10 days after that which is when they said I was 7+2. At that point I thought I was 8+4 I think.
Do you have another scan booked in?

That’s interesting. When they saw the yolk sac at what you thought was 6+4 was there anything in it?

Did they seem pretty pessimistic when they gave you that news? That’s what’s worrying me most. You know when you can tell by their faces? The nurse also even asked if I have pads at home or if I needed some 😔

They said they’d call me on Monday to see if I’d passed anything. If I haven’t, they said they’d get me back in for a scan to be certain nothing has developed, and then offer me intervention methods if nothing has moved on. So I’m guessing a week today for the next scan.

They didn’t see anything in it. They seemed neither optimistic or pessimistic to be honest. They said it was too early to tell and it still could be unviable.
I’m so sorry you have to wait. It’s the worst, you have all my empathy xx

@waryandbored thank you. I wonder why these guys seemed so pessimistic. Like they’re really preparing us for the worst with the leaflets etc. Can’t tell if it’s just because they need to manage expectations or because they truly think there’s no hope. They didn’t even ask if my calculated dates could be out.

Thank you for your support. I’m keeping you in my thoughts too and so hoping everything works out for you ❤️

They never asked me if my dates could be out either. It was only on Friday that the nurse said I’d most likely ovulated later than I’d thought and implantation can take a while. There was no encouragement to think positively or anything like that before we saw the heartbeat.
Look after yourself xx

@purplecolouroffunk I’m so sorry that you didn’t get good news at the scan, and now need to wait again. It’s just agonising isn’t it. I hope they were kind to you xx

@taytay2020 I agree - fine line between eating not enough and too much. I often feel nauseous when hungry but also soon after eating. I’ve worked out that mint is a nausea trigger for me, so I always feel sick after brushing my teeth 🤢
I was worried the nausea had died down yesterday and this morning but has ramped up again this afternoon. Such a weird pattern how it comes and goes. I am away from home on a work do and need to hide away from everything!!

NetflixBinger96 · 09/04/2024 18:16

@purplecolouroffunk I’m a lurker on this thread but just wanted to say I went for a scan at EPU at what I thought was 5w6d and couldn’t see much except a gestational sac. They were very noncommittal about how far on I was measuring and just said it wasn’t as far as I thought I was. However they checked my HCG on my bloods 48 hours apart and appeared to be happy with that - I’m not sure if this is something you could maybe ask for?

I was told to go back 2 weeks later on the 27th of March when I thought I was 7w6d. At this scan I was measuring 6w6d so one week behind based on my last period. I was really apprehensive about this but they said at this stage they’re so tiny that it’s really difficult to accurately measure.

I then went back on the 4th of April for a further scan and I was measured at 8w3d, so I was still 4 days behind by my calculations but I’d caught up 3 days by their measurements (hope this makes sense).

The unknown is so difficult, it’s torture, but I don’t think it’s abnormal for this stage of pregnancy because I’ve read loads of people sharing similar experiences. I’m sorry you’re experiencing this and sending hugs. Please be kind to yourself and do whatever you can that makes you feel relaxed (as difficult as this is!). xxx

purplecolouroffunk · 09/04/2024 18:37

@NetflixBinger96 thanks so much for sharing your story 💜

Testing my HCG was just never mentioned. I’ve heard of lots of women being offered that, so it’s weird.

They were really nice to me but they were just super pessimistic with the leaflets, options etc, like they were definitely preparing us for the worst. It’s interesting that in everyone else’s accounts the staff weren’t as pessimistic as that. It makes me think they saw something in the scan they didn’t like, besides the measuring behind dates.

Were you fairly certain of your ovulation/conception dates?

purplecolouroffunk · 09/04/2024 18:39

They also never mentioned that I might be further behind or that my dates might be wrong. They just went straight to probable likelihood of an unhealthy pregnancy.

Cloclomarie · 09/04/2024 19:29

Just posted this but in the old thread - hoping someone can advise!

I’ve been having bad cramps all afternoon and now getting red blood, not loads but more than spotting - I’ve had a bath and could see it. I’m supposed to be going on holiday tomorrow for a few days and currently at a hotel by the airport so don’t really have an option of going for a scan, I’ll get one when I am back. Has anyone else had this (currently I’m 9 weeks) and been for a scan and if so how did it turn out

CurlyWurly1991 · 09/04/2024 19:37

@Cloclomarie Im really sorry to hear that, sounds stressful for you. I don’t know how I would feel about travelling away from home in your position, are you going abroad,
? I’m sorry you are going through this. Is there any EPU linked to a hospital where you are? I would maybe call 111… because I think you need checking out medically xx

1yearplan · 09/04/2024 19:46

@Cloclomarie what a stressful situation. Are you able to book a private scan local to the airport? I had a big bleed at 5w5 days and it turned out to be a hematoma. I had mild cramping with it.

@purplecolouroffunk I had bleeding so was scanned at 5w 5d. They could only see the gestational sac. They didn't measure my HGC because it if was a blighted ovum (which was suspected) my levels would still be rising.
I was scanned a week later and the pregnancy had progressed and they could see a heartbeat. Could you have a private scan after a week? They debated making me wait 2 weeks, I'm so glad they rescanned after 1 week. The wait is horrible.

Meatballsandpasta · 09/04/2024 20:40

Can I take a moment aside and ask about constipation... Can we take anything?! I'm struggling to eat things with enough fibre, struggling to drink plenty, struggling with energy for exercise. So all the basics are out the window. I'm trying. I am. But does anyone have any extra tips? I used to occasionally have these Fruit N Fibre figgy cube things in times of need but even they say consult with doctor if pregnant! I'm going to ask at my booking appointment on Thursday but I'd quite like to go before then too!!!!!

Can you manage weetabix? I think they’re good for fibre

1yearplan · 09/04/2024 20:56

I used movicol recently. I bought it in South Africa, where I was told it was safe for pregnancy. It should be available in the uk too. The pharmacy in boots told me that lactalose is safe for pregnancy too, but I don't like that.

Sparksi · 09/04/2024 20:56

DH took me out to go to Mowgli (Indian street food place for those of you who don’t have one close!)

It’s usually my favourite place. Ordered my usual stuff. Managed half of what I usually eat. I reckon I could’ve kept going but I was feeling queasy and didn’t want to be fully sick. We’re now home and I’m sipping on water but I can feel my stomach churning. 🤢 reckon there is any way to not be sick? This is the closest I’ve felt to it. 8 weeks today.

1yearplan · 09/04/2024 20:57

*the pharmacist

CurlyWurly1991 · 09/04/2024 21:00

@Sparksi ahh it really sucks when you go off your favourites… I’ve had lots of times I feel I’m going to be sick but so far it has then abated. I seem to have gone off meat which is unusual for me. First preg I had aversions to vegetables, onions, garlic…. This time I like fruit and veg which I guess is a good thing.

@Meatballsandpasta ive just bought some prunes. I need something to work for this too! I’m so bloated I think as a result. I think fybogel could be worth a shot, not sure if it’s suitable in pregnancy?

CurlyWurly1991 · 09/04/2024 21:01

Just checked and fybogel is fine so I will be trying that if no joy from prunes!

Were you fairly certain of your ovulation/conception dates?

@purplecolouroffunk The EPU explained to me that for anyone measuring under 5mm they check HCG, and I was measuring 4.7mm - not sure if this is guidance across the board but it’s maybe worth asking the question? It wouldn’t answer all of your questions but would maybe give you even a little understanding without waiting the full week until your next scan.

I’m sorry they were very pessimistic today - I feel it would be unethical for them to see something on the scan and not give you all the information, especially when giving you leaflets on miscarriage as really that’s the scariest potential outcome. But equally I suppose they wouldn’t want to send you away not knowing the possibilities!

I wasn’t at all sure on my ovulation/conception dates. I know I don’t ovulate on the typical CD14 due to just knowing my body but I don’t know exactly what day it happened.

It’s not as straightforward as we’re led to believe when we’re young is it!

Westy22 · 09/04/2024 21:07

@purplecolouroffunk I'm sorry your scan didn't go to plan today, as others have said maybe push to have your hcg measured. With my first pregnancy my scans were inconclusive so they did bloods every 48 hours to see what the hormone was doing and that indicated that mine wasn't going to plan as it was only rising by 40% rather than doubling. I was scanned atleast 3 times before they confirmed the outcome. It's the worst wait though, but it may make things clearer for you 💕
