Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.
If you’re new to the thread, we are a friendly and supportive bunch all in it together and hoping to welcome our new additions in November 2024!

Hi all,

I’ve been following the thread from the beginning and it’s been such a help and comfort to me! After a long and complicated fertility ‘journey’ (🤢 hate that word) and some complications early on I was too nervous to comment too early 🙈

I’m 8+2 with my first baby, aged 33. I have had scans at 6 weeks and 6+4 with the EPU and have a private scan on Thursday this week 🤞🏼 also have my midwife appointment this week on Saturday so it’s all starting to feel real now.

Thanks for keeping me company the last few weeks (without even knowing it!) 💕

Hi everyone. Thread 3 already! I have my first midwife appt tomorrow, and 12 week scan in another few weeks. I can't believe we're nearly at the point where we can share the news! (We decided to wait because of the MC, I know lots of us have shared already - I hope it went really well if so!)
My bloat is beginning to look like a real bump now. Looking for summer holidays somewhere sunny but lowkey. Any recommendations are welcome! Xx

Hi everyone! Thanks for new group 😍

I’m reading everyone’s messages and it’s starting to panic me a bit. Other than sore (and huge!) boobs, being hungry, and a bit of tiredness, I feel absolutely fine! Maybe it’s yet to come? I’m 6+1.

Very light spotting is still going, on and off. EPU told me to call them back after 6 weeks if it’s still going, so will give them a call tomorrow. I’m not feeling particularly worried about it cause it’s so light and definitely not every wipe, but be good to get to the bottom of it.

I’m a chronic luteal spotter too, so I’m wondering what the common denominator is!!

These are my symptoms too, and also 6+1!

I do occasionally feel a bit nauseous but it's not too bad. It's so far exactly the same as my first pregnancy.

Oh, and constipation. How could I forget the constipation. Ripped my bum earlier trying to do a poo. That was extremely unpleasant. But also common for me during pregnancy apparently 🙃

Kinsters · 08/04/2024 01:20

We've done the NIPT, I did the blood test last Wednesday so expecting the results back next week sometimes. Although this week Wednesday and Thursday are public holidays here so it might be slower. We've done NIPT for all my pregnancies and I've never been worried but this time I am as the NT looked really thick. Hopefully I'm just worrying over nothing. The Dr pointed it out but didn't measure it or say it looked thick, she did ask us if we wanted to do NIPT shortly after that. I need to stop over analysing!

PennySong · 08/04/2024 05:39

I haven't even thought about screening. I'm still waiting for my scan 🤞 it's on Thursday.
I'll worry about the next thing afterwards.

Welshcake15 · 08/04/2024 06:25

Jumping on this thread.

I've got my booking appointment on Thursday! All starting to feel real now!

In my last pregnancy they couldn't do the combined test because baby's position was awkward. They sent me for a walk to try and get them to move, but no joy, and the policy was then that I couldn't be invited back in a few days, but would have to have the quad test a few weeks later. After researching the quad test we made the decision to get the NIPT to put our minds at ease.

This time we'll try and have the combined test because if it does come back higher risk then the NHS will cover the NIPT cost. If it comes back lower risk then we'll pay for the NIPT ourselves.

@Bubble17 welcome and congrats 😊

Starrysky812 · 08/04/2024 06:54

Good luck @CadoAvo and to anyone else having scans or calling EPU today. Very best wishes to all ❤️

mrssunshinexxx · 08/04/2024 07:03

@PennySong is this your 12 week scan? If so you should of already opted in or out for screening

LegoBear84 · 08/04/2024 07:20

Back to work (school) this morning after 2 weeks off and the pregnancy bloat is real... can only just do my trousers up!! Cue a wardrobe raid for more comfy attire.
Have a great day all x

No, I'm only at 8 weeks. I'll contact the nhs etc. after my scan on Thursday. I'm a one thing at a time person. Hopefully I'll find out my wee Splodge is growing well and has a healthy HB. Then I'll do all that midwife stuff and ask about screening.

This is my thinking too, as I suspect I will come back high risk anyway as I’m 37. We don’t really want to fork out for NIPT if it’s covered anyway. However is there a bit of pressure for time with this approach - am I right in thinking you need the NIPT done by a certain date? I am hoping for an earlier 12 week scan as we go on holiday when (all being well) I’ll be 13/14 weeks.

PP mentioned constipation - yep. For me the nausea has lessened yesterday but only for this symptom to pop up. It’s like whack a mole while various things coming and going for me with a constant backdrop of absolute exhaustion.

piechipsgravy · 08/04/2024 09:20

Anyone swinging between constipation and the opposite? I keep getting constipated for a few days then it gradually gets looser until it's nearly diarrhoea then heading back to constipation again! Can't seem to find a balance in the middle.

I also have lots of twinge-y pains today in my uterus. Dating scan is 3 weeks today which seems so far away to get my next hit of reassurance but I need to practice making peace with the 'not knowing'!

piechipsgravy · 08/04/2024 09:21

@LegoBear84 have a good first day back! I'm not back til next week which is great for getting some extra rest but I could do with the distraction as I'm going a bit stir crazy...

Welshcake15 · 08/04/2024 09:32

@CurlyWurly1991 I'm 38 now, so fully expecting a higher risk result on the combined test. I think you can have NIPT until the end of pregnancy. It's the combined test that there's a strict time limit for. The problem with that test is having it too early, particularly if you have raised BMI as there might not be enough fetal DNA in your blood to run the test which would mean it would have to be repeated.

CurlyWurly1991 · 08/04/2024 09:37

@Welshcake15 thats good to know . I guess if you had the combined test but still wanted to do the NiPT later and got a high risk result then you could still go back and request a CVS on that basis - hopefully.

Yes absolutely! Mine switches by the day. I think it’s just hormones messing with your digestion.

I wouldn’t worry! But know that’s easier said than done. Your scan at 9 and a bit weeks was amazing. They say your odds at 8 weeks and 12 weeks are pretty much identical anyway - something like 97% chance everything will be ok at 8w and 98.5% at 12w.

Sparksi · 08/04/2024 09:55

Setting off for booking appointment in ten mins! I’ll let you all know how it goes. I’m really squeamish about blood tests (silly, as I chose to donate blood years ago!) but I might just have to not look that way 😂

This is very reassuring. It’s our NIPT scan today and I’ll be exactly 10 weeks. Nervous but also excited as we had a good scan at 6 weeks and symptoms have been strong, so hopefully all will be ok. Got a bad tummy this morning though, combination of nerves and pregnancy hormones I think!

piechipsgravy · 08/04/2024 10:09

@Sparksi thanks! Yeah I am a ridiculous catastrophiser. Have started counselling for my anxiety but haven't got a grip just yet.

Good luck with your appointment!

Thank you. I totally get it and think I could probably do to, too! It’s horrible worrying and I don’t think anyone properly understands unless you are anxious yourself xx
