Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.

@ChocolateSaxophone - why is that? If it's because you've got strong symptoms it could just be that you produce high levels of HCG even with a singleton pregnancy. At 6 weeks, my HCG was measuring so high they expected twins when they scanned me but there just the one (and confirmed at my 12 week scan too).

I think it's possible for them to miss a twin at 6 weeks but quite unlikely.

waryandbored · 03/05/2024 15:04

@ChocolateSaxophone I have got the same anxiety! I had a very early scan due to bleeding and they saw two sacs. A scan 10 days later showed one sac with a little heartbeat. Nobody really mentioned the second sac and I was too relieved about the heartbeat to remember to ask! I’ve not had a scan since. I’ve had dreadful nausea and sickness, plus I am 10x more tired than I was in my first pregnancy. My scan is on Wednesday and I’m half expecting them to say there are two babies!

Just had my 12 week scan today and due 10th November. Now I need to return to work from my current maternity leave and tell my boss that I’ll be off again - any tips!? 😅

ChocolateSaxophone · 03/05/2024 15:31

@muddlingthrou my twin suspicions are just from strong symptoms and what seems to me like quite a big bump already for just one baby! Part of it is also probably just the worry of having two and being unprepared for them.

@waryandbored I look forward to your update next week! Hope all is well

mrssunshinexxx · 03/05/2024 16:23

@Hoppyhops you are well within your rights to be having another baby so don't feel bad about it x

SouthwestSis · 03/05/2024 17:03

@Hoppyhops when are you due to return to work? Do you have to tell them just yet?

You're definitely not the first person in the world to do this so don't be made to feel like you are if anyone is weird about it.

waryandbored · 03/05/2024 17:34

@Hoppyhops I can imagine you feel awkward about that conversation but as someone else said, you’re allowed to have a baby! How old is the little one you’re on mat leave for now? Make sure you know how long you need to be back at work for in order to be eligible for mat pay. It may change your return from mat leave plans but you don’t want to miss out on pay!

A question that has been on my mind- Have any of you dyed your hair? I needed my hair doing before I got pregnant and now it is in desperate need! I'm just over 12 weeks and wondering if I should wait until the 2nd tri/until I have the baby/not bother waiting! What are your thoughts?

muddlingthrou · 03/05/2024 18:25

@ThatBloatIsBloating - I'm planning to dye my hair tomorrow as I can't bear the greys any longer! I'll be 13+5 so pretty much in second tri. I dyed my hair in my last pregnancy with no issues, though they do say do a patch test to make sure you don't have a reaction as some people get extra sensitive.

LegoBear84 · 03/05/2024 19:30

@ThatBloatIsBloating don't quote me on it but I'm sure I read somewhere that it's best to go for dyes that don't touch the scalp as skin can be more reactive/sensitive during pregnancy. It was in one of those 'pregnancy myths' articles under the can I dye my hair bit.

MrsS11 · 03/05/2024 20:07

Congratulations @Hoppyhops :) @ChocolateSaxophone it's really common for pregnancies to be different each time, and for your bump to be bigger each time! I've never been as sick as I was with my second, barely had any sickness the other 3 times. I do think pregnancy in general gets hard each time, although maybe that's just because you've got another kid to look after too!

I did mine at about 8 weeks and I'm fine I had no reactions but I did read the same about doing a patch test etc... 😊

Welshcake15 · 03/05/2024 20:48

@ThatBloatIsBloating it's honestly fine. The amounts of the chemicals you would need to do any harm os much larger than the amount used in dyes. I've had highlights in both of my previous pregnancies with no problems, and have my next appointment booked to get it done at the end of this month.

That's why I'm worried! This is my first (and our only) so I thought I was showing quite a bit more than expected 😬

Hoppyhops · 03/05/2024 21:26

@mrssunshinexxx @SouthwestSis Thanks, I know I’m not the first person that this has happened to and they absolutely can’t make me feel bad, but I’m dreading the conversation.

My little one is 10 months old and I’m due back in 3 weeks. I need to tell them asap as I’m a teacher and they’re putting together next year’s timetables so I need to make sure that they don’t give me any exam classes. I need to arrange to go in before I actually start so I’m going to have to pull myself together, get there next week and tell the Head face to face. Urgh. I know she will be absolutely fine - she has to be - but it’s still daunting.

@waryandbored Thanks - yes you’re right about needing to be there incase it affects mat pay- luckily it just about works out for me!

Thanks @MrsS11 !

Hi everyone, I’m 11 weeks and am feeling a bit down about my body 😔 I wasn’t expecting to feel like this this early on, but I’m convinced I’ve gained quite a bit of weight already, I’m usually a size 8-10 but tried some clothes on today in town and I’m barely fitting into a size 12. My boobs are usually small but they’ve doubled in size already. Is this normal this early?

Pre pregnancy I was fit and healthy and ran a few times a week. I haven’t ran at all since pregnant and I just feel and look so unfit. I obviously know I can’t avoid body changes whilst pregnant but I was not expecting this much weight gain this soon. Is it normal? And is it normal to be struggling with body image this early on? Wonder if anyone else can relate.

I think the lack of exercise and eating beige carbs has had the biggest impact :(

sorry just feeling a bit sorry for myself! X

Kinsters · 04/05/2024 08:24

@Daisychain27 I've gained 4kg already! My boobs are also a lot bigger and my "bump" is at that stage where it just looks like flab. You'll get some energy back soon. I'm 14+4 and it's really only the last few days when I feel all my energy and motivation to exercise is back, I feel so much more like myself again.

SouthwestSis · 04/05/2024 08:48

I've also already gained some weight when I know we shouldn't have technically by this point, but I'm doing what I need to do to get through first trimester, I haven't been able to exercise at all,
One thing I am doing is making sure I get to 7000 steps every day and trying to get the average to 8000, this forces me to at least walk when I feel like I can't do much else, and usually to get outside which helps my mood.

Not fitting in my clothes does get me down so I've bought a couple of things off vinted in larger sizes and a couple of maternity already since it's my 2nd so I basically already have a bit of a bump, but mostly I just look podgy compared to my usual

ChocolateSaxophone · 04/05/2024 11:38

On the other end of the scale, on a good day I have managed about 300 steps 🤣 between getting out of breath, nausea and feeling altogether knackered it's an uphill slog to get moving.

In terms of body image I think in pregnancy I've found my body weight has moved around. I lost weight through nausea and food aversions but have a noticeable bump and I'm in much bigger nursing bras than before. So, somewhere I've lost weight but I wouldn't know it just by looking (and I've changed the battery on my scales just to be sure)!

I’m with you on this. I actually think I’ve lost weight simply through the food aversions. I’m sure it’ll all pile back on come 2/3rd trimester!

Koala98 · 04/05/2024 12:02

@Daisychain27 im the exact same and had a little cry about it last night. I’ve gained 6lb but honestly dont know how with the nausea early on and also no calories from drinking 😂 i haven't been to the gym either and think i need to push myself to be active again

y0rkier0se · 04/05/2024 15:42

My OH is out at the football today so I’ve been to IKEA and bought baby coat hangers so I can start organising things! My OH’s colleague kindly gave us their baby wardrobe, and I posted a pic last week of the bits I’d got from the pre-loved sale, & my friend passed on quite a few bits from her little one when she was newborn, so I’ve started putting things in the wardrobe and now it feels very real! (of course I’ll wash it and iron it all just before baby’s arrival, but it feels better than just being in big bags in the spare room 🙈

@y0rkier0se looks great! I wish I could be that organized. We have loads of clothes left over from last time (some of which are organized by size), but we're redecorating the spare room atm and I can't make any progress on organizing clothes, or getting together any of my old maternity equipment.

Last time I felt so shit that I left everything to the third trimester, which I do NOT RECOMMEND 😂

y0rkier0se · 04/05/2024 17:32

I think I’m only so enthusiastic because it’s my first 😂 After that I was really sick and came to bed for a lay down and I’m still here 🙃😂 We need to redecorate and get a new carpet but waiting until the 6 week holidays for the big stuff, just doing the little things for now!

ChocolateSaxophone · 04/05/2024 18:26

@y0rkier0se I had an absolute trial trying to get small onesies onto hangers. Honestly... I gave up and the bits we have are folded in a drawer instead. I applaud your sticking power! The wardrobe looks beautifully coordinated.
