So exciting! Is that much different from your original date?

piechipsgravy · 29/04/2024 11:44

@ChocolateSaxophone 4 days ahead- LMP said 8/11 but I have short cycles and must have ovulated early.

Oh yay! Congratulations, that's great news. Celebratory pie tonight? 💐

And @y0rkier0se what an absolutely adorable haul 😍

I have another 4 weeks until my scan, and with my symptoms easing off in my 9th week, and having had a MMC previously, I'm fearing the worst again. I only have a very short time to TTC so I'm wondering if they'd do a reassurance scan before then.

Hope everyone is doing well, or at least coping.

Not to harp on the nausea... but my pregnancy apps etc keep telling me it might be lifting about now (I'm 13 weeks). Anyone feeling any difference yet? I'm retching more than ever but I guess maybe I'm starting to get some good periods too? Honestly, it's hard to tell but definitely still feeling rubbish most of the time 😣

Happy to hear of people's scan news though!

LegoBear84 · 29/04/2024 16:39

@Bubble17 I'm near to Worcester so kinda close by. It rained most of the time we were there, so we're keeping our fingers crossed we might get a free return visit and we can go when the sun's shining!

LegoBear84 · 29/04/2024 16:47

@Daisychain27 I'm glad I'm not the only one playing "am I ill or am I just pregnant?" It's baby number 2 for me and I swear this time round is so different. I hit a low point this morning of dry retching in the shower as I washed my hair.

I was just going to make a post about this. I'm 10+4 ,so quite a bit behind you. But I've had constant nausea all day long today. Retching whenever I walked past outside bins. I had a good couple of weeks with very mild nausea. My sense of smell is extremely heightened as well. 😩

Definitely not alone @LegoBear84 😊 my nausea is back with a vengeance this morning so I’ve realised I wasn’t in fact coming down with something, I’m just pregnant 🙈

@Cazzy87 my 12w scan is 10th May too! Still feels like a while away I think but I'm excited.

@ttcbabyno1x have you tried rennies instead? If not then omeprazole is safe in pregnancy and you can buy it over the counter.

Yeah I’ve been having them constantly but don’t seem to work either. Defo need to try the Omeprazole a few people have mentioned it, didn’t know you could get it over the counter! Thank you

mrssunshinexxx · 29/04/2024 17:31

@muddlingthrou my all day long nausea started to ease at 12 weeks I'm now nearly 15 and it's totally gone however the exhaustion is next level but I'll take this over that!

taytay2020 · 29/04/2024 19:45

@muddlingthrou sorry you're still suffering! Sounds like it's different for everyone but a few of my friends have assured me their nausea stopped by halfway through the 2nd trimester, so hopefully you've not got long to go, even in a worst case scenario. Mine seemed to ease halfway through week 8 so I think I got off very lightly!

@piechipsgravy so glad your scan went well! And being a bonus 4 days ahead sounds great too 😀

taytay2020 · 29/04/2024 19:57

Question for those who already have a child: how were you feeling/managing at about 6-8 weeks postpartum? Is that too early to think about doing a long drive (with someone else driving) and a late night? I've been invited to a work-related event in February and I'm wondering if it'd be foolish to give a tentative yes (I'm self-employed and it's an opportunity I'd leap at in normal circumstances). I would have support from DH, although we're too inexperienced to know what form this would need to take! Thanks in advance.

muddlingthrou · 29/04/2024 20:05

@taytay2020 - honestly, I was a zombie 6-8 weeks after having my daughter... I wouldn't have coped having to put my work face on! Also if you're breastfeeding it might be tricky having time away from your baby. So I'd say it might be a bit ambitious, but everyone is different x

UnravellingTheWorld · 29/04/2024 20:55

@taytay2020 I felt AMAZING after giving birth - it was like a weight had been lifted off me (badum-tssss). But at 6-8 weeks I was going to bed between 9 and 10, because having to wake up for an hour every night and then get up again at 6 really takes its toll.

I wouldn't say it would be a hard "no" for such an event, but I definitely couldn't have been away from my son for any length of time because I breastfed. He fed every hour or so during the day.

mrssunshinexxx · 29/04/2024 21:02

Honestly ? @taytay2020 if you are planning to ebf I'd say very slim chance.
I've had 2 babies and at that age they were both cluster feeding for 3-4 hours every early evening then of course a lot through the night too. Both bottle refusers not for lack of trying x

Shroedy · 29/04/2024 21:38

@taytay2020 I was physically feeling pretty good at 6-8 weeks and my little one was a great sleeper and was already going longer stretches at night (maybe 5 hours in a stretch). But I was still waking up and doing feeds (I bottle fed but was still up for at least an hour and a half in the middle of the night) and getting dressed and having a shower each day was maybe 50/50. And he was and is an easy baby. Getting out of the house to the supermarket was an achievement. Definitely wouldn't have wanted to be away from my son for even an hour or two, either.

Ultimately your world just shifts massively, as do your priorities. so at a minimum you just won't know what you're dealing with until you and your little one are in it.

I would say go for it. It's not exactly the same but I travelled with my first at 3 weeks old for Chinese New Year with DH's family. Those nights in the hotel were the first time DD slept for 6 hours (and the last time she did it for ages!).

Is the event the kind of thing you can step out of to feed your baby if you're breastfeeding? I was lucky with mine and she'd feed for 10 minutes and then be content with a finger to suckle on. Even better if she'll take a bottle. Your DH might have to be prepared to walk around with the baby in a carrier/pushchair.

At that age with my first the biggest struggle was leaking milk. In the end I cut a nappy in half and taped up the ends then stuffed that in my bra - no more leaks!

muddlingthrou · 30/04/2024 07:27

@Kinsters - wow, your baby sounds like a dream! My DD was colicky by 6-8 weeks and spent three hours every evening screaming blue murder 😱 so yeah, the other factor is how easy a baby you end up with... god love her, my DD is now a relatively easy toddler, but I feel like we earned that after the early days 🤣

taytay2020 · 30/04/2024 07:30

@muddlingthrou @unravellingtheworld @mrssunshinexxx @shroedy @kinsters Thanks so much for your helpful replies! My maths was rubbish and it'd actually be 10-12 weeks but I'm sure your warnings would still apply. I think my Plan A will be to go for it, possibly with DH and child in tow. DH is probably taking at least the first 3 months as SPL so we might try combi feeding, and either way I'm expecting him to not be useless! 😀 But I'm going to make sure I also have a Plan B so I don't cause issues for people if we decide it's not possible nearer the time.

Yeah she had her moments but was never too bad (although the waking every 2 hours even at 15 months was a bit much lol). She definitely had a witching hour but she'd scream for anyone who was holding her! One top tip for the inconsolable crying that I found worked well was holding them out from your body kind of angled flat on your arms with legs curled into your stomach and doing squats. Weirdly effective.

muddlingthrou · 01/05/2024 09:41

I got my DH to get me a Nutella stuffed pastry this morning as I was craving one like crazy but am too full of cold to want to venture out. He actually went and got it, bless him! Hope everyone is feeling good - finally the second trimester is in sight 🥳

ChocolateSaxophone · 01/05/2024 11:23

I am tentatively marking myself as being in my 2nd trimester, as my symptoms have really shifted. Last night was the first night I haven't had to wear a bra at night because of being so uncomfortable, and this morning they're not tender at all (although still very sensitive nips...). Nausea is still present occasionally, but a lot more manageable - only really happens after I've been in the car... and I even have some energy back? And coffee smells good again? I am sleeping better? I can concentrate? I'm not dizzy! What is this magnificent-ness? Long may it last!

This is amazing to hear, albeit tentatively. I was starting to feel better towards the end of last week but then Saturday lunchtime hit and I had constant nausea from then until yesterday. This really impacted my mental health as I thought I was over the worst of it and had already started planning what I was going to do with my new energy and lack of nausea. This morning I've started to feel a bit better again so I came on here hoping to see some positivity that others were seeing an improvement in symptoms and the improvements were sticking.

How is the return of coffee?? And energy?? It does sound like you're entering the lovely phase of pregnancy (so I hear, this is my first but everyone talks about the glorious energetic 2nd trimester).
