I have one of those families... telling my dad anything I might at well just stick in on a billboard. So I'm holding off telling any family until we have some of the screening tests back - another 2 weeks until my 12 week scan etc.

Hi everyone, I've got my booking in appointment tomorrow morning at 9+4! Really hoping to get my 12 week scan booked in this week as I'm nervous it will clash with work I can't easily cancel 😩

I've also seen a drop in symptoms over the last few days - very little nausea and I'm not even quite as tired (although I'm quite good at getting in a nap when I get the opportunity, whether I feel like I need it or not). I've not been sick at all but I do need to snack often to keep the nauseous feeling at bay. This also means I enjoyed bangers and mash and gravy for dinner and I highly recommend it! So relieved I can enjoy food again, even if this doesn't last.

I haven't told my parents yet, mostly cos I knew my mum wouldn't be able to resist gossiping about it with my aunts 🙄 However today it got more complicated. Very sadly my cousin has been referred to hospice care for his cancer, so now I'm debating postponing even longer - I don't want to put my mum in the position of celebrating a potential grandchild while her sister is grieving her only child (very likely within the next few months). Not sure how to proceed to be honest as it's all very sad.

That's very sad. Sorry you're all going through this.

I'm 9+4 and my nausea is a lot better. Just there in the mornings before I eat really. I did change vitamins, so wondering if that has played a part. I know a lot of women felt worse taking pregnacare. I'm still really tired...hoping that will lessen soon. My only other symptom really is feeling a bit bloated the last few days. I don't think anyone else would be able to tell, but I'm a little bit thicker in the tummy! My boobs haven't even hurt in a while.

CurlyWurly1991 · 22/04/2024 20:28

@taytay2020 so sorry to hear about your cousin. I’ve had some experiences of hospices and while the circumstances are always very sad, they can often be incredibly healing and joyful places staffed by very kind and experienced people. Hopefully your cousin will find it supportive and kind, he won’t need to experience any pain, they should be totally on top of keeping him comfortable.

My family is similar in that if I told my dad anything it would be around the family in minutes. Hence I haven’t said anything to family yet.
I have today become a step-aunt to a little baby boy, born just after 42 weeks!

@Sparksi its reassuring to hear that about symptoms. I don’t really remember them dipping much around 9 weeks with my daughter, but that’s what’s happened to me. Should be 9 weeks tomorrow and had a nausea lite weekend, although this evening I can feel it creeping back in.

taytay2020 · 22/04/2024 21:52

@curlywurly1991 congrats on your step-nephew!

Thanks for the kind messages everyone. I get along well with my aunt and cousin but we're not especially close, just because we don't live nearby. But I'm so sad for them, and this doesn't feel like the right time to be sharing our news. (Not that we'll be doing that until after our 12 week scan at the earliest, so I still have plenty of time to discuss this with my DH.) We may just have to tread carefully in how we tell them - as some have said, happy news might also be appreciated. Hmmm.

Kinsters · 23/04/2024 03:47

Oh @taytay2020 what an awful situation for you all, I'm so sorry. My personal opinion is that life continues despite tragedy and you can't stop that. There is probably no "good" time to share the news with your aunt, even if it was years down the line it would still hurt, so I would share the news as you were planning to at 12 weeks. But of course tell your aunt sensitively x

Kinsters · 23/04/2024 05:01

I just called up to rearrange my appointment next week and asked about the NIPT results. All is low risk and baby is a girl. I was so sure she was a girl, it's funny how you can tell - that's 4/4 for me being correct. But also the Chinese gender predictor has been 4/4 correct too and I don't believe that's anything other than chance!

I had to rearrange my scan to next Friday...it seems a long time to wait and see if she's ok. I had a late loss before (even after a low risk NIPT result) and I'm feeling more and more anxious as I get into the second trimester.

piechipsgravy · 23/04/2024 06:30

I've had actual morning sickness- aka waking up and immediately being sick- for 2 days in a row now. So random! Annoyingly it's before I eat anything so I'm retching up an empty stomach. Need to get stricter about eating when still lying down in bed. I was doing it before but only when I felt nauseous- now I'm not feeling nauseous and then just puking out of nowhere. Fun!

piechipsgravy · 23/04/2024 06:30

@Kinsters congrats on your baby girl!

carlymarie24 · 23/04/2024 07:19

Hi does anyone know if the EPU will want to see you for just cramps but no bleeding?

piechipsgravy · 23/04/2024 07:28

@carlymarie24 they saw me early on for one sided cramps and stabbing pains to rule out ectopic

1yearplan · 23/04/2024 08:24

@Kinsters that wonderful news! We're having a baby girl too. The Chinese predator calendar has been correct in all 4 of my pregnancies too.
I completely get where you're coming from with the getting more anxious the closer to the second trimester we get. I've had a very similar experience to you. It's difficult especially when there was no reason found for the loss. I keep telling myself this is a different pregnancy, but it's hard not to worry. I've found great comfort in knowing the sex of the baby. I talk to her all of the time and it has given me something to focus on. Sending lots of love to you.

Meatballsandpasta · 23/04/2024 08:35

I get different results on the Chinese gender things, because the way we calculate "age" isn't the same as the original Chinese way. So the ones where you put in your DOB and the tool converts it to lunar age tell me this baby's a boy, and the others say I'm having a girl 🤷 i guess one of them will be right! 🤣

Lilac24 · 23/04/2024 08:36

@Kinsters which Chinese gender chart do you use? There’s so many different ones that say boy/girl for me!

Kinsters · 23/04/2024 10:30

@Lilac24 this is the one I use https://www.baby-chick.com/chinese-gender-calendar/

@1yearplan thanks for your kind words. Yes, I'm trying to tell myself this is a different pregnancy and there is a lot different this time. I feel healthier, I'm heavier than I was (I think I lost too much weight bf-ing DS).

Try This Chinese Gender Predictor

Curious if you're pregnant with a boy or a girl? There are many fun ways to predict your baby's gender. One of the most popular old wives' tale ways is

taytay2020 · 23/04/2024 10:48

Anyone who's had their 12 week scan already, how long did it take? I've just had my date through for 12+1 and I'm trying to work out if I'll be able to rush to a work event afterwards. Thanks!

piechipsgravy · 23/04/2024 10:51

@taytay2020 I haven't had mine but my letter says it takes 20 minutes however allow 2 hours (I'm guessing if they are running late or there are complications)

SouthwestSis · 23/04/2024 10:56

@taytay2020 sometimes baby is not in the right position for them to do the checks and you have to go for a walk and come back so you definitely can't count on it being quick.
Also a good chance of them running late if your appointment is not early in the day

AccountingMummy · 23/04/2024 10:59

How fun @Kinsters I just tried that Chinese gender link and it got it correct 😊 I'm sure just a coincidence but very sweet nonetheless.

AccountingMummy · 23/04/2024 11:00

And sorry you're having a rough time @piechipsgravy these babies know how to keep us on our toes by changing up the morning sickness timings!

Cazzy87 · 23/04/2024 11:20

ooh well my chinese chart said boy, i'm not sure at all but partner thinks girl! haha so we'll see ... still waiting for my letter in the post for my 12 wk scan, im so impatient! but got told it can take up to im 11 weeks to get my scan date - not impressed with that as thats 2 weeks away! 😞

y0rkier0se · 23/04/2024 11:45

Bit the bullet and ordered a pregnancy pillow this morning. My 12 week scan & appointment is Friday, it says allow upto 3 hours! Hopefully it won’t be that long! 🤞

I’m 13+2 ish today, had my booking in appointment this morning, midwife was lovely and really reassuring, took about 45 minutes all in

“12” week scan on Thursday, can’t wait but so nervous!!

strawberrycake12 · 23/04/2024 12:02

Has anyone bought anything for baby yet? It's my first baby and I don't know anyone with a baby. I don't even know where to start. Anything you've had before and couldn't live without?

Bratzy · 23/04/2024 12:34

Kinsters · 23/04/2024 05:01

I just called up to rearrange my appointment next week and asked about the NIPT results. All is low risk and baby is a girl. Aww congrats 🥰 Chinese predictor says girl for me. My bf is also convinced it's a girl for some reason. I'm trying to remember it could easily be a boy, as really have no idea. I don't want to feel weird if baby is a boy because I've convinced myself otherwise 🤣

Am I right that you should be able to tell at a 13 week scan? Or is that too early? Is it a case of NHS wouldn't tell you until 20 weeks? I think I'm still going to hold off until later, but just curious.

mrssunshinexxx · 23/04/2024 12:35

@strawberrycake12 star snugs ! And a good white noise machine ! X
