Anyone else feel like they constantly have flu or something? My nausea has gone but just feel so fatigued all the time, like I want to hibernate for a few months 😆

Mumtobeno2 · 22/04/2024 14:49

I wish I had taken a leaf out of some books and taken a sick day today, I had a migraine last night and took some paracetamol which barely dented it. This morning it's subsided into a pressure headache at the back of my neck, my nausea is worse and I just want to sleep. Managed a nap at lunchtime and the GP has kindly booked me in to see if they can give me anything stronger than paracetamol that won't harm the baby. Sending lots of love and sympathy to everyone not feeling 100%

sabretoothtigger · 22/04/2024 14:52

@Daisychain27 Yes! I'm so drowsy the last few days that I almost feel drunk. I'm napping loads, but even when I'm awake my eyes are still really heavy. And if I don't nap, nausea starts kicking in now and gets worse and worse into the evening. Sore boobs are back with vengeance, and tummy is unsettled and cramping.
So I've answered my own question and nausea can definitely set in a bit later around 8 weeks.
I really don't know how anyone is coping with not WFH, especially with the bad nausea and sickness some of you are dealing with.

muddlingthrou · 22/04/2024 14:53

@StayingHopefulx - do you see a correlation between tiredness and sickness? Because I totally do! If I have a disturbed night with my toddler or a stressful day where I'm running here, there and everywhere I totally pay for it afterwards.

sabretoothtigger · 22/04/2024 15:01

@piechipsgravy thats such a great tip about taking a snack, thank you. I've got my booking in appt at the same time later this week, plus a 45 min walk each way.
Also your username is REALLY making me want chips and gravy 😋

I think there absolutely is, I feel sicker as the day goes on usually.

StayingHopefulx · 22/04/2024 15:04

@muddlingthrou definitely! I took a few days off work last week and was fine! And then today back to work the nausea has started!
hope it gets better for you 🥰

sabretoothtigger · 22/04/2024 15:07

@muddlingthrou YES!! 100% I really only get nausea if I can't sleep enough, and like Sparksi, once it starts it just gets worse and worse until bedtime.

CurlyWurly1991 · 22/04/2024 15:28

I’m also one who gets much worse nausea when I’m more tired. I was not sleeping well between about 6-8 weeks but that has improved a bit now though still waking up to wee.

So glad it’s not just me! I’ve been incredibly lucky in that I’ve been okay on days I’ve had to go into the office, but loads of my WFH days I’ve just crashed, I’ve had to take lots of naps on the sly, it’s so embarrassing. I also don’t seem to feel better after napping anyway but it’s nicer than staying awake and feeling awful! :(

piechipsgravy · 22/04/2024 15:39

@Daisychain27 I'm feeling rubbish- really run down and sleepy (so wouldn't be surprised if I have caught slapped cheek after all). I can't wfh but have been particularly struggling over the last week after lunch, I feel almost dizzy with tiredness sometimes! Glad to know it's not just me.

piechipsgravy · 22/04/2024 15:40

@sabretoothtigger good luck with the appointment! I was so grateful I had some crisps in my bag... haha I never DON'T want chips and gravy.. I'm also partial to cheese, chips and gravy after a night out too!

Very similar here! Have you had your blood pressure taken lately? I get the dizziness too, my midwife did BP and lo and behold mine was really low! Common in pregnancy apparently, who knew!

sabretoothtigger · 22/04/2024 16:03

@piechipsgravy Ah thank you. Feel a bit bad that I can't provide loads of the medical history they'll want, but I haven't told anyone yet so just don't know the answers. Hoping I can provide that info later.
And yes, a sort of drunk dizzy, woozy feeling? That's how I know the nausea is kicking in. Last few days it's been much stronger though, almost constant. I'm trying increasing fluids to see if its partly dehydration, but not sure it's helping.
Oooh, and cheesy chips with gravy - what witchcraft is this? Now you're talking!

sabretoothtigger · 22/04/2024 16:07

@Daisychain27 very interesting about the blood pressure. Mine tends to be low anyway, so I'll definitely keep up the extra fluids. Thanks!

SouthwestSis · 22/04/2024 17:42

My booking appointment went so well today!
I actually didn't feel dreadful with nausea and fatigue today which makes a nice change.
The midwife was lovely and was very good at taking my bloods, I hardly felt a scratch.

The next appointment will be the long one for my glucose tolerance test, not the way I'd choose to spend a morning of annual leave but hey ho, I will take a book!
Counting down until my dating scan now, 2 weeks on Friday.

1yearplan · 22/04/2024 17:57

@SouthwestSis ahh, I'm glad it went well. I've been told I need a glucose tolerance test too. I know it involves drinking a sweet drink, but that's all I know!
I bought a new book today too. 'Give birth like a feminist' has anyone else read it?

CurlyWurly1991 · 22/04/2024 18:02

@SouthwestSis ah glad to hear it went well and you didn’t get butchered when they took the bloods!! I was also pleasantly surprised by my midwife’s blood-taking skills, little bruise but not bad.
BTW you shouldn’t need to take AL for pregnancy related appointments. It is all paid time off, save up your AL for pre baby holidays and mat leave. It has to be this way equality reasons - men wouldn’t lose annual leave going to their essential health appointments, as they can’t grow their own babies. Yes I am a feminist lol.

Bratzy · 22/04/2024 18:48

My booking appointment on Saturday also went well. Midwife was lovely and said so far I'm low risk. Just need to keep an eye on iron levels, as I've been slightly anaemic during periods before. I even got my scan appointment the same day, which I was impressed with! I'll be 13+1 for that. Unfortunately, I'm back to feeling like I have soo long to go until the end. Which isn't a nice feeling. I should probably be appreciating every step of my first pregnancy, but I don't know...just hard to imagine having a baby before the end of the year, as 9 weeks pregnant sounds like nothing.

SouthwestSis · 22/04/2024 19:03

Thanks @CurlyWurly1991 , I already had the annual leave booked and they only do GTTs on that day of the week in my area so it is what it is.

@1yearplan you just have to have your blood glucose level checked at the beginning of the test before drinking the drink and then again at the end, you're not allowed to walk around or anything so it can be a boring 2hrs!

@Bratzy interestingly my midwife gave me iron tablets to take on alternate days and said this is new standard practice because so many ladies get to the end of pregnancy with low body iron stores, so I've got that to take now too.

Sparksi · 22/04/2024 19:10

Heartburn for the first time today! Rennies are my friend!

Me too, so hopefully it'll be enough to keep my levels healthy.🤞🏼

Hi everyone, I've got my booking in appointment tomorrow morning at 9+4! Really hoping to get my 12 week scan booked in this week as I'm nervous it will clash with work I can't easily cancel 😩

I've also seen a drop in symptoms over the last few days - very little nausea and I'm not even quite as tired (although I'm quite good at getting in a nap when I get the opportunity, whether I feel like I need it or not). I've not been sick at all but I do need to snack often to keep the nauseous feeling at bay. This also means I enjoyed bangers and mash and gravy for dinner and I highly recommend it! So relieved I can enjoy food again, even if this doesn't last.

I haven't told my parents yet, mostly cos I knew my mum wouldn't be able to resist gossiping about it with my aunts 🙄 However today it got more complicated. Very sadly my cousin has been referred to hospice care for his cancer, so now I'm debating postponing even longer - I don't want to put my mum in the position of celebrating a potential grandchild while her sister is grieving her only child (very likely within the next few months). Not sure how to proceed to be honest as it's all very sad.

This sounds really tough.

On the symptoms front I also lost them all at 8+6, felt much brighter until 9+3/4 maybe and then steadily onwards from there I have felt very sick again. You may find it comes back. Lots of other people also report symptoms lessening a bit around the 9 week mark. I wouldn’t worry too much about the presence or lack of symptoms but know it’s easy done

That is really sad for your cousin and family. I think you will know what’s right in terms of timing. However, your good news might be a little spark of joy for you all. Telling your mum doesn’t mean you have to tell everyone else. Sending a big hug ❤️

sabretoothtigger · 22/04/2024 20:20

@taytay2020 I'm so sorry about your cousin. Are you close with him and your aunt? Your little bundle might well be exactly what your family need in the coming year, but it is difficult knowing what do with the timing. Incredibly sad news.
@Sparksi in some families telling one person in the strictest confidence means telling your entire extended family whether you like it or not, simply because they can't help themselves 🙄😂that's why I haven't told anyone one.
