Hi everyone and welcome to thread 3.
Please ask if you’d like the link to the private Facebook group. It expires after a couple of days so I won’t add it to this post.

Fluctuating symptoms is totally normal, also depends a lot on what's going on in the rest of your life I think!
Today I have less nausea but am just as tired, no opportunity for a nap today so will be another early night for me.

Re: the earlier Slapped Cheek chat, my midwife just told me to 'avoid it as much as possible' but didn't say anything about immunity blood tests etc. I'm now quite anxious about how to avoid it whilst working in a reception classroom as it's not possible to avoid physical contact with children etc.

That’s exactly what mine said and it wound me up, especially because anyone who’s got it is most infectious before the rash develops. After the rash develops it’s not contagious!

Mine literally just said ‘try and come home and rest if you start feeling unwell’. Like, cool. Haha

Sparksi · 16/04/2024 18:00

I also can’t avoid it in my job as I work up close with early years. They want a cuddle, they sneeze in your face while you’re fastening their shoe… that’s what little ones do, as we know, but its not helpful when we are worried about our own risk

waryandbored · 16/04/2024 18:37

Hi everyone. I feel like all I do is moan at the moment. My sickness has got even worse and I’m pretty much vomiting everything I eat today. My DS is in nursery tomorrow so it’s my first chance in what feels like forever to rest. I really hope it makes a difference. I don’t know how many more days like today I can handle. I just feel awful all the time, constantly nauseous and the vomiting is so violent and painful. Is anyone else going through this?

So the slapped cheek situation at my school has developed... the Reception class teacher, who is 16/17weeks, has been told (by her midwife) to self certify off work until her bloods to check immunity come back. And they've tweaked my timetable so that I avoid working in that class until I can get confirmation about my immunity. I've got my booking appointment on Thursday so I'm going to make it a priority query for the midwife. Luckily there's still only a small circle of colleagues that know and others I'm telling that they've moved me due to having a weakened immune system because of my crohns medications. It's partly true!
My only worry now is that my son is in the other Reception class and I have to hope he can avoid catching it.

piechipsgravy · 16/04/2024 18:44

@LegoBear84 do you know how many cases there are? I'm wondering whether to push back to get my bloods done for immunity.

SouthwestSis · 16/04/2024 18:46

You can ask her to add on parvovirus immunity to your booking bloods @piechipsgravy
And then if they can't then I would ask to get fresh bloods sent.
Then if you know you're not immune you know to protect yourself with FFP3 or switch to a different form of work

piechipsgravy · 16/04/2024 18:49

Thanks @SouthwestSis annoyingly the midwife I saw today only works in community Monday and Tuesday but I think I'll call the maternity helpline in the morning and ask them.

LegoBear84 · 16/04/2024 18:59

@piechipsgravy there's been 3 confirmed cases, a few suspected but parents have dismissed it being nothing serious 🙄 the problem being it's not contagious once the rash has come out so we have no idea how many have potentially caught it and are about to rash.
The chances are that working with young children then we've probably come into contact with it before and could be immune.
The chat in the staffroom today was discussing what if you didn't know you were pregnant and were exposed to it. I just had to keep quiet, I don't really want to share yet as not quite 9 weeks.

piechipsgravy · 16/04/2024 19:01

@LegoBear84 thanks, I've had one confirmed case but he came in as already had the rash. Obviously have no idea who had play dates etc over Easter and possibly has it. I've been in reception for over 10 years so I'm sure I'll have picked it up at some point at time and it will all be fine but the not knowing is horrible. Not everyone I work with knows but I told my TAs so I'm trying to avoid doing intimate care etc for a bit to be on the safe side.

ttcbabyno1x · 16/04/2024 20:05

Got my 12 week scan tomorrow. So nervous!

LegoBear84 · 16/04/2024 20:11

@piechipsgravy it's a tricky situation to be in as it kinda backs you into a corner with regard to telling others about pregnancy earlier than possibly wanted. Good luck!

@Sparksi I'm finding it really hit and miss with symptoms at the moment. Yesterday I threw up just as I was about to leave to go to work, felt nauseous most of the morning. But then today absolutely nothing first thing, then some nausea in the afternoon but nothing a small snack couldn't fix.

mrssunshinexxx · 16/04/2024 21:07

@ttcbabyno1x good luck! What time isit x

That’s reassuring to know. I’ve just not felt nauseous at all today, in fact, I ate a whole pizza! I suppose symptoms coming and going must be really normal though from all the posts on here about it

purplecolouroffunk · 16/04/2024 22:28

Scan tomorrow morning. Been feeling sick with anxiety all day. Fully prepared myself to have the D&C in the afternoon, but wish me luck 💜

taytay2020 · 16/04/2024 22:44

@purplecolouroffunk so sorry you're going through this, good luck tomorrow xx

9+5 today and I've had a sudden symptom shift. No nausea at all on waking, and I slept well. The biggest thing though is I had to go through the kitchen just now and it smelt... fine? Maybe a whiff of coffee but that was it. I've not been able to set foot in there for weeks without holding my breath as it just smelt vile and just now I was able to tidy the washing up, swept the counters... miracle. Even if this is just for today I feel like the end is in sight and I couldn't be more relieved.

I’ve been like this since yesterday, 9 weeks exactly. Really hoping it stays! Also a bit worried but then again the placenta is starting to take over and if you google ‘9 weeks symptoms fading’ so many threads pop up where people have had this and be fine, so it must be a common time for a lull.

SouthwestSis · 17/04/2024 09:37

Really pleased for you @Meatballsandpasta !
Feeling pretty jealous as I sit at my desk feeling absolutely exhausted. Dreaming of bedtime already.

Really hoping some better days are on the horizon for me, I'm 9+2 today.

strawberrycake12 · 17/04/2024 09:39

My symptoms all went between 8-9 weeks but now at 9+2-3 I've had horrible nausea in the evenings and headaches. I'm really hoping that the symptoms will go again soon. I was reading some people feel better at 10 weeks which is next week for me so fingers crossed.

Meatballsandpasta · 17/04/2024 09:40

I spent 9+3 and 9+4 in bed snoozing on and off until about 6pm so full solidarity with you on the tiredness @SouthwestSis . I was fully prepared for another slow day today but I'm going to have to hold myself back - I could run a marathon! Build a house! ...or maybe just do some work and eat some meals for once 🤣
