Anyone else not had any scans yet? Mine is on the 11th. That's a private one, so would've been waiting a lot longer otherwise. It's kind of crazy how little reassurance, and how much waiting, there is for most pregnant women...

I haven't had any. I'm 7+1. It's my first baby / pregnancy so just going to try and hold off until 12 weeks!

@Riverstardust how are you feeling now, have your antibiotics kicked in? Hope you’re on the mend x

No scans for me yet! It's expensive to do these things and it has absolutely no bearing on how viable the pregnancy is, so I've never even considered having extra scans. With my first baby I got 3 extra freebies because of concerns with fundal height, so I think the novelty has worn off!

Got my booking app for the end of the month, so just need to be patient for a few weeks. It's a long time until November!

CurlyWurly1991 · 02/04/2024 21:09

I’m not doing private scans because I had a bad experience last time. If I get a sudden loss of symptoms or any spotting/bleeding I will check in with the EPAU. It’s nervewracking but I don’t think I will be reassured by early scans tbh.

Sparksi · 02/04/2024 21:11

One weird thing I’ve noticed is that I seem to have a lot more mental clarity. I was anxious at first, very much so, but I seem to be really chilled these past few days. Like I have a new focus almost and other things (work, previous worries) don’t sit on my mind as much.

H20202 · 02/04/2024 21:16

@UnravellingTheWorld many women who have had loss and trauma find viability scans essential and we are under no illusion they can change anything.

personally, there was absolutely no way after an ectopic I could have waited until 12 weeks nor would the epau have encouraged that with being at high risk of having another… it’s life threatening 🤷🏻‍♀️

each to their own, if you don’t feel you need one that’s absolutely your prerogative but your comment comes across a little judgemental and naive of those who do.

Sparksi · 02/04/2024 21:19

I had my EPU scan last week and I’ve booked a private one for next week when I’ll be 8+3. It was £65 but I don’t care, it’s worth it to me for that bit of reassurance. You’re not any worse or better for having the scans, it’s an individual kind of thing. As @H20202 said, when you’ve had a loss sometimes you just need that extra reassurance. Every day felt like a whole month in those extremely early stages. It’s only now I’m starting to relax.

H20202 · 02/04/2024 21:24

@Sparksi seeing it in the right place and with a heartbeat was such a reassurance for us, I’m sure you felt the same. Glad you are feeling much more relaxed 🩷

I’m so pleased for you 🩷 and thank you! Appreciate you being there when I was being ridiculously irrational 😂

Bratzy · 02/04/2024 21:27

I don't have any personal pregnancy loss or anything. Although, I'm sure we all know someone who has. I know it doesn't guarantee everything will be fine going forward, but I hope it'll be some comfort. It's such a long wait otherwise. I can't imagine having a mmc, while just going around thinking everything is ok. It's just a bit of peace of mind for me, to check it's at least all started out in the right way. If that makes sense? Sorry, I know it's a very sensitive subject.

shohopeful · 02/04/2024 21:30

@Bratzy I had a reassurance scan and my personal experience was that it was very reassuring and I'm really glad I did it. Everyone is different, but if it helps you to know what's going on then that's fab 🤍

H20202 · 02/04/2024 21:31

@Bratzy you do you! If you want that scan go for it, you don’t have to have experienced loss to feel able to have one. I couldn’t have waited 12 weeks no way! Xx

Thank you 😊I also admit that I'm not always a very patient person, so that probably factors into it hehe.

@H20202 thank you 😊

Hey, a lot better now thanks. Think I reacted quite badly to the antibiotics as i was so ill all weekend. Think all good now, still cramping in the night so spoke to 111 and they said to give it a week or so and call my doctors if it's still happening. 6 weeks today so that's good, cramps haven't meant miscarriage yet!

How are you doing?

Jenroxy5 · 02/04/2024 22:06

The night before scan nerves…I know there’s been lots of scan chat tonight and from my experience I had a missed miscarriage at 15 weeks I waited for my 12 week scan and it was scheduled for 14 weeks due to busy schedule I was sick so rescheduled it I was 15+1 and my baby had stopped growing at 8 weeks no bleeding etc it was a horrible time that was my first pregnancy and I’d never experienced it before so didn’t know about symptoms etc had 2 successful pregnancies since this is my third and I still check the paper every time I wipe or want symptoms no matter how severe (I’ll regret sayin that) but even now this pregnancy started as pregnancy of unknown location they couldn’t locate the sac until a week ago and tomorrow is the day I’ll find out my dates and have hopefully some reassurance and I was fine until now. Your brain works in weird and wonderful ways pregnancy is beautiful but also scary making a human is hard work! Prayers for all our little babies to stick and be healthy x x x

Bratzy · 02/04/2024 22:49

We are all in it together. 💜

Kinsters · 03/04/2024 01:56

I have a scan today. I've had one MMC at 8 weeks which was a huge shock as it was my first, one which never developed properly so I did that backwards and forwards seeing if it would grow for weeks and one MMC at 18 weeks. It's pretty standard where I live to have a scan once a month to check how things are going.

I'm quite relaxed about it, we've done it all before and managed so whatever the outcome it will be ok.

Kinsters · 03/04/2024 03:43

All looked good on the scan although the NT looks a bit thick...I don't really know what it should look like though and I didn't notice on the picture until we'd left. We did the NIPT test so I guess I'll know in 2 weeks. The baby measured 11 weeks already which would give me a due date of 23 October. But that can't be right as I'd have had to conceive on cycle day. Anyway the Dr agreed to put my due date as 28th October 🤷🏼‍♀️. I've never had such a big discrepancy that way before (I've measured behind but never ahead) so it surprised me.

The scan itself was lovely, the baby was wriggling around and waved for us!

1yearplan · 03/04/2024 07:07

Ahh, that's so lovey to hear @Kinsters. I love it when you can see them moving. I'm measuring ahead too, it's difficult to know which date to go by, especially because I want an NIPT at 10 weeks. I think I'll have to leave it until 11 weeks to be sure.
I find huge reassurance in the scans. We lost our son and I found out via a scan, so they do make me nervous beforehand, but bring me lots of relief when I know things are ticking along as they should at that point in time.
I guess how much value a person finds in a scan v the price of a scan is personal.

SouthwestSis · 03/04/2024 08:01

I'm 7+1 today and have a first reassurance scan booked for tomorrow, I've had a chemical and an early loss since I had my little boy so I'm hoping it will be reassuring, although I was hoping to wait until 8w to have the scan, I couldn't make it work to get my partner free and my little boy in nursery so it's going to be tomorrow.
Hoping to see a heartbeat but don't know how much of an idea of dates they will give me.

Anyone else at 7w and not had their NHS 12w scan date through yet?
I'm 35 and although we're not paying for NIPT, I'm conscious to get the screening done ASAP. My midwife booking appointment is not until 11+5

piechipsgravy · 03/04/2024 08:08

Morning all!

On the scan debate, we chose to book a private scan because we know people who've found a MMC at the 12 week scan and we decided that if things aren't progressing, we'd prefer to know sooner. Even if we have a positive scan on Friday (I'll be 9 weeks) but then I go on to MC later, I'll be glad to have a photo and memory of the fetus. However, I do know that a scan literally only reassures you while the scan is happening and I have so much respect for women who wait until 12 weeks! Considering I'm still taking pregnancy tests at 8 weeks +, I definitely do not have the impulse control 😂
