Morning all!

On the scan debate, we chose to book a private scan because we know people who've found a MMC at the 12 week scan and we decided that if things aren't progressing, we'd prefer to know sooner. Even if we have a positive scan on Friday (I'll be 9 weeks) but then I go on to MC later, I'll be glad to have a photo and memory of the fetus. However, I do know that a scan literally only reassures you while the scan is happening and I have so much respect for women who wait until 12 weeks! Considering I'm still taking pregnancy tests at 8 weeks +, I definitely do not have the impulse control 😂

I understand this! I’m so so worried about MMC even though I need to probably give my head a wobble. When you see a heartbeat you then have a 95%+ chance that things will be ok. MMC account for 1-2%, of all known about pregnancies, including those where they never saw the heartbeat. Sure you can find stories about where it happened later but I bet in reality it is just about as common as your baby being born with Down’s syndrome or another genetic condition. Just using a random example there!

Probably dumb question from me. I am 7+1 today. I thought this meant I was in week 7 of pregnancy?

My app says I have been pregnant for 50 days. I googled ‘what happens on day 50 of pregnancy’ and have had loads of websites pop up to say I am in week 8?!?

So yesterday you were exactly 7 weeks pregnant. You’re now in your 8th week of pregnancy and in 6 days you’ll be exactly 8 weeks pregnant.
Your first week of pregnancy was the 6 days before you were exactly 1 week pregnant!

i have a scan at 12pm today the nerves are truly kicking in hoping to see a yolk sav this time and hopefully feral pole saying lots of prayers xx

Sparksi · 03/04/2024 09:01

Just tried to have a nice big glass of water and I’ve had to give up on it because I’m retching on every second sip.

Apple juice goes down fine though! How weird? Terrible for my teeth but can’t really dehydrate

I thought about squash but lots contain preservatives which I don’t really like having. Might see if I can pick up some fruit cordial though if I can find one that seems natural

CurlyWurly1991 · 03/04/2024 09:02

Yes private scans are a personal decision and of course if all is well they can be reassuring at the time. I hope everyone has positive early scans that does them!
There are a couple of reasons I haven’t booked one (yet - we will see). I found out about a MMC this way around 7+4. The sonographer really did not handle this well and there was no signposting at all. I just felt like the place was set up for those 4d scans really, at a later stage. For an early scan I would feel much safer at an nhs hospital. The nhs sonographer I had the follow up scan with a week later, to confirm the MMC, was very negative about early private scans. She said it should have been TV at that gestation and an abdominal one was not good enough to see everything. I don’t know if that’s true and perhaps some private ones do TV scans but this place only did abdominal.
anyway the gist of it is that yes I appreciate it would have been awful to continue to think I’m pregnant and go into the 12w scan to find out the baby had died weeks ago. On the other hand I don’t think I ever want to receive bad news at a private scan place that is not really set up as a medical facility with no ability to provide follow up care.
Thats just my experience though, and absolutely each to their own!

piechipsgravy · 03/04/2024 09:37

@CadoAvo how are you doing?

Meatballsandpasta · 03/04/2024 09:44

I only had an early scan because we went through a fertility clinic and it's needed to confirm if we're okay to be discharged to normal local care. I think you have to do what's right for you.

My morning sickness is officially back today - a brief flash of nausea and then suddenly in need of a bucket. Surreal. Feel fine now, although I keep coughing so that's annoying.

piechipsgravy · 03/04/2024 09:37

@CadoAvo how are you doing?

Not great. Didn't have a good sleep, hoping to come home today instead of tomorrow. Still bleeding, it never reaches the pad but there's a lot every time I wipe. Got bad cramps this morning now too. I had a bit more hope last night after reading many positive outcome stories re bleeding at 7 weeks but this morning I don't feel as hopeful. Just have to suffer through this limbo until I can get a scan, the quicker I can get to my own bed the better 😅

Thanks for checking in 💕

CurlyWurly1991 · 03/04/2024 09:49

@CadoAvo sending lots of love to you. Absolutely you need your own bed xxx

Westy22 · 03/04/2024 09:51

@SouthwestSis I'm 9 weeks today and don't have a 12 week scan date, my midwife app is next week at 9+6 and I thought she arranged it 🙈 (first baby no clue) I'm 37 but we've decided not to have the screening so I'm not up against a timeframe with that.

We had two early scans on nhs due to previous early loss, first scan at 5+4 and one at 7+5 and saw a heartbeat on both, good luck tomorrow ❤️

H20202 · 03/04/2024 09:53

Hope all goes well for those who have scans today/ over the next few days.

no one should feel the need to justify their choices regarding having an early scan or not, doing what’s best for you is the most important thing. Hope everyone’s feeling ok 🩷

H20202 · 03/04/2024 09:55

Also I don’t have my 12 week scan date yet, my booking appointment is at 9w4d so hoping it will be set then.

Elixabeth · 03/04/2024 09:58

Good luck to everyone having early scans.

My early private scan was a TV scan, and was able to show that my bleeding was a heamatoma and not a MC so provided a lot of reassurance for me. EPU told me phone back after I'd monitored at home for a week, and I just couldn't cope with the not knowing.

1yearplan · 03/04/2024 10:17

I've been thinking of you @CadoAvo. I really
hope everything is going to be okay for you.
Nothing beats the feeling of sleeping in your own bed.

Riverstardust · 03/04/2024 10:48

Read a thing yesterday that said symptoms really kick start at 6 weeks, thought nothing of it as have already been having symptoms. Boy was I wrong, woken up today with horrible nausea, on a video call trying not to be sick.

How do people do this? And then also do it again, especially with another child at home!?

Mumtobeno2 · 03/04/2024 10:56

Morning everyone, I have completely lost track of this thread so sorry. I know there has been a lot of scan chat, not sure if anyone can reassure me or offer any words of advice. I stupidly did a pregnancy test earlier today not my fmu but still, anyway the line is lighter than normal but it is also a different test to my usual brand so trying to reassure myself this is why.

I have a private scan tomorrow at 8 weeks exactly and I'm really nervous so was hoping the test would ease my worries but instead has added to them and I'm scared there won't be a heartbeat. My symptoms haven't been that strong but equally I work full time and have a toddler so don't know if I'm just not noticing cus I'm busy. Driving myself crazy and I know noone has a crystal ball to tell me the outcome but any words of advice, encouragement or anything really appreciated.

y0rkier0se · 03/04/2024 11:04

@Bratzy I haven’t had a scan yet, 9+3 today. I’ve got a private one booked for Saturday, and then my NHS 12 week one is on 26th April, when I’ll be 12+5. The closer it gets to Saturday, the more nervous I get!

piechipsgravy · 03/04/2024 11:45

@Mumtobeno2 which brand did you use? I did some One Step tests after my initial Easy@Home and they were much lighter! They did continue to get darker over time and I think the brand just produces lighter lines comparatively.

Hi a wee update on my scan still no yolk sac in the pregnancy sac :( feel a bit disheartened will be rescanned in a weeks time. I have no idea how far along I actually am because of my long 40 days cycles my lmp was 12/02 but the dates would be too far out for that they only found the pregnancy sac on Saturday so I’m hoping I conceived much later and it’s just far too early xx

Shroedy · 03/04/2024 12:19

@Mumtobeno2 that might be the hook effect - from around 6 weeks there's a chance that lines will get lighter but it doesn't mean that your hCG is dropping - your scan tomorrow will hopefully give you the reassurance you need but I wouldn't panic, it's normal! 😊

Mumtobeno2 · 03/04/2024 12:38

@piechipsgravy it was a tesco one, I randomly had one on the cupboard so thought I'd give it a go and wish I hadn't bothered now. I stopped testing when I got to week 6. Either way I will know by 5 tomorrow the outcome so will have to just try and practice some patience. I've attached an image so you can see how light it is.
