@TrudyProud no sweeps aren’t a form of induction but still classed as an intervention. You can have as many as you want, if your body isn’t ready it just won’t work, I think they’re totally pointless pre 39weeks really unless you have a CS or IOL booked earlier and just want to give it a go. My trust really don’t advocate sweeps at all as one of our lead consultant specialises in preterm/infection/stillbirth sees a correlation in his women and sweeps.

I'm having one at 38+5 as IOL booked for 39wks, I’m curious as to what my cervix is doing pre IOL
but also just to see if it kicks anything off

TrudyProud · 23/12/2023 05:54

Oh wow, I wasn't aware of that correlation @Mummyme87 . Thank you.

Right now no induction planned as it didn't work with my 1st born (prom at 37+4 then gel, pessary , pitocin - cervix refused to dialate) but if something seems to be kicking I may accept one at 39 weeks + to see if a repeat CS can be avoided.

I'm going to try another sweep next week (38+3) in the hope my cervix is doing something. Just feels like I'm counting down to my CS date tbh

PartRadish · 23/12/2023 06:07

Congratulations @MrsJ6921 ❤️

Good luck @Mushroo So exciting!

That's really interesting @Mummyme87 because I had multiple, pretty vigorous, sweeps with term DC1 (they were offered quite freely back then!) and with all three subsequent babies I've had incompetent cervix. I've always wondered if it could be at least part of the reason it developed. I mean I'll never know obviously and it may be entirely unrelated but potential damage to the cervix is something to consider I think, I was never told of any risks at all at the time.

sashastuck · 23/12/2023 08:39

@MrsJ6921 congratulations on your baby girl. Waiting all that time for a room must have been horrible! Glad you’ve got her now and she’s happy and healthy x

@Mushroo best of luck today (that’s if baba didn’t arrive overnight!)

That info on sweeps is really useful. I wondered why I hadn’t been offered one for before my induction but looks like I may have declined anyway. There’s so much to learn!

Ttcdcno1 · 23/12/2023 09:40

So many babies coming!😍getting so jealous 😂

Lightningrain · 23/12/2023 10:27

Congratulations @Bims2019 and @MrsJ6921, and good luck @Mushroo if baby isn’t already here!

It’s all feeling very real now with babies starting to arrive. Hope everyone else is managing to get prepared for Christmas and not too uncomfortable. I’ve got some swelling in my hands and feet today so I’ve been for a walk and now going to chill out for a bit with my feet up.

RaspberryTime · 23/12/2023 10:39

@Lightningrain I’ve had nasty hand swelling too so feel your pain. I’ve also developed carpal tunnel so can hardly grip and my hands seize up completely when I sleep. The joys of the third trimester!

LittleAlien24 · 23/12/2023 10:56

@MrsJ6921 congratulations on your baby girl

Im just after washing all downstairs floors. Having a cup of tea now while sorting through clothes for him that DH bought with him from ireland. After that off to start with Christmas food prep and another few washes on downstairs floors.
Does anyone have tricks how to get plaster water splashes off the floor? The minute floor is dry they appear again 😒

1992H · 23/12/2023 11:20

@LittleAlien24 of you have any try sugar soap and a brush, then pat it off with a towel and then mop it situ fresh water and should clear. Do not envy you having the renovations to clear up at this stage!

Hummusanddipdip · 23/12/2023 11:23

Agree with @1992H sugar soap should work. I've had to use it in paint splashes this morning 🤣 dh did the gloss work after the builders left and got it on the new flooring 🫣

Lightningrain · 23/12/2023 11:31

@RaspberryTime I think I’ve had carpal tunnel for a few weeks too. One wrist is painful and on the other hand I’ve got three tingling fingers. I’ve been wearing those wrist splints at night which has stopped it bothering me while I sleep but it’s really annoying during the day when I’m wanting to get things done. I’ve been trying to massage the fluid back to the top of my arms but it’s probably cancelling out any benefit by doing the massaging with my fingers!

Hopefully it goes away after we give birth as I can imagine it being a pain when trying to dress baby with all the poppers on the clothes!

Luhou · 23/12/2023 12:25

Congratulations @MrsJ6921

I hope I haven't missed congratulating anybody, these babies are coming so fast I can't keep up!

I came on to tell you how much better germoline cream is for hemaroids than annusol, it's a game changer! Dissapointed I never tried it with my first pregnancy.

suz2285 · 23/12/2023 12:33

@Luhou I've just had to dig out the germaline today too, I'm literally swollen from the bottom of my vulva right along my perineum and then into my bum, and I wish I hadn't looked this morning 🙈 it looks worse than it feels thankfully right now but 4 days of a tummy bug has not helped!! It also feels like baby is about to fall out of my butt today so that's fun

We're an hour into our 3+ hour road trip and I'm so uncomfortable already 🙈😂

PartRadish · 23/12/2023 12:56

@Luhou Thank you for this info! I discovered my very first hemorrhoid a few days ago and it's so so sore 😭 Local pharmacist wouldn't sell me any cream yesterday, said I needed to see a GP 😕 GP surgery confirmed that I didn't need to see them and all creams are pregnancy safe. So I'm sending DH out for something this afternoon but wasn't sure which to get. Really hoping it'll go down a bit before the birth 😳😬

Luhou · 23/12/2023 13:31

@suz2285 and @PartRadish pleased to help! The germoloid cream seems to numb the area. I am really struggling after lots of squatting moving stuff into our new kitchen yesterday. I think technically some of the annusol cream says not suitable during pregnancy, which is why I switched to germoloid.

Luhou · 23/12/2023 13:31

I meant germoloid not germoline!

TunnocksTCake · 23/12/2023 13:37

Congratulations @MrsJ6921 glad the induction was a success!

I've had my c section date confirmed for 39+4 which is less than 2 weeks away! I'm convinced he's going to be earlier than that but at least I'm in the diary. Much easier than I was expecting to request it, I just rang up and asked and 2 days later got a text with the date 😳

Inmydreams88 · 23/12/2023 14:01

Congrats @MrsJ6921 !

I am getting slightly jealous now with all these beautiful babies being born early! I'm 38+3 and I don't have an induction or c section or anything booked so I feel like I am in limbo just waiting to go into labour naturally, which could be anytime between now and the next 3 weeks.

Hummusanddipdip · 23/12/2023 14:26

Same here @Inmydreams88 I've been so convinced since September that he'd come before Christmas, I now feel like he's going to stay put until January to spite me 🤣

RaspberryTime · 23/12/2023 15:34

@Lightningrain I keep thinking about not being able to dress baby too…it’s so flipping frustrating, as if we don’t have enough to think about already!

Sunriseandcoffee · 23/12/2023 17:24

Anyone having period-type pains? I'm only 36+4 so seems too early to be labour related.

Sunriseandcoffee · 23/12/2023 17:30

Also.. being this far along, 2 days before Christmas, with kids at high doh from dawn till dusk is requiring levels of patience I didn't think I possessed 😂😂.

Salamander91 · 23/12/2023 17:39

Congratulations @MrsJ6921 ❤️

BloodontheTracks · 23/12/2023 18:33

Just totally exhausted at 35 weeks. Have to go to bed four hours each day. Is this normal or am I not eating enough or something?

buckingmad · 23/12/2023 19:04

@BloodontheTracks have you had your iron levels checked recently? Only time I had such severe exhaustion I was anaemic
