Sorry @FirstT1meMum missed your reply! Hope it goes well tomorrow and you’re feeling ok. You’ve done everything you can and there’s far more to being a mum than breastfeeding. I was formula fed and have a cracking immune system and am so close to my mum that she cut the umbilical cord when I gave birth!

Thank you! Just need to get out of my own head! When I was pregnant DH and I said that as long as she's fed that's all that matters and science has come a long way with formukas. Just hard when I had a specific route in mind and I do worry what other people will think (I know I shouldn't!)

Marple03 · 07/01/2024 00:09

Just following along here but I would say that most people will think that you made a huge effort in the face of much adversity at a time that is difficult for everyone even when things "go to plan". And that would be the truth anyway. Congrats on your new arrival...

Booklover88 · 07/01/2024 02:22

@FirstT1meMum totally understand-I’m the world’s biggest people pleaser and worried people would think I hadn’t tried hard enough. But now I don’t care. I’ve been a far better mum the last 24 hours since I’ve relaxed about it and given more formula than the stressed out, tearful mess I was for the first few days of her life

FirstT1meMum · 07/01/2024 02:39

@Booklover88 that makes me feel so much better. Hopefully we will get some answers today and create a plan, I think the worry around her weight gain is possibly hindering the feeding too!

Matildahoney · 07/01/2024 02:45

@Booklover88 I wouldn't worry what other people think, you've tried your best and it's nobody's business but your own.
My sister in law (mother of 3) in her own words said, the idea of breastfeeding never entered her head, her daughter has recently had her own child and she didn't try to breastfeed, lots of people don't now. It is hard work, and it does take it out of you. You have to be the best mum for your baby and that means your mental health being in the right place, a fed baby is a well, happy baby, regardless of which way they're fed.

Mummyme87 · 07/01/2024 04:33

I have a baby, born 00.29 7th Jan, weighing 9lb10oz and 62cm long! Not quite the way I had hoped it would go in the end but he’s here and we are fine. Had a forceps delivery in theatre With a 1000ml blood loss which I will take after over double that last time!

FirstT1meMum · 07/01/2024 06:36

Congratulations @Mummyme87!! Hope you are both doing well 👶❤️

Redpanda21 · 07/01/2024 08:29

Congrats @Mummyme87

I’m still in antenatal ward waiting for a bed in delivery to have waters broken.

Contractions from sweeps have completely stopped but lost a huge amount of plug this morning, must be the end of it now, the thing has been never ending! BP is normal. Headache is killing me and I feel really out of sorts and emotional today. Strange as a I slept really well.

Luhou · 07/01/2024 08:38

@Mummyme87 huge congratulations! Wishing you a speedy recovery!

@IzzyMas and @Onedayatatime24 sounds like we're all strugglint with sickness. I'm 38 + 3

Best of luck to those who things are happening for!

Thinking of those in the newborn phase. I also didn't manage to breast feed DD1, and was to hard on myself. Looking back it made no difference and I was so much happier bottle feeding. She is now a super bright 3 year old.

TrudyProud · 07/01/2024 08:54

Congratulations @Mummyme87 !!! Enjoy the newborn cuddles

Mushroo · 07/01/2024 09:04

Congratulations to all those with babies and good luck to those going through it - induction ward was the worst part for me (just through lack of sleep and boredom so I hope you’re not there too long!).

My LO will be 2 weeks tomorrow! It’s gone so so fast. Enjoy all the newborn snuggles, I’ve really been trying to make the most of it.

Breastfeeding here, and although it doesn’t hurt, my nipples are sensitive and I can’t say I’m particularly enjoying it. Hoping it gets better.::

toddlertired · 07/01/2024 11:20

Hi! I’m 38+1 with second baby - my first was born at 35 weeks so being this pregnant is a whole new thing for me. Definitely struggling more with the weight/cumbersomeness of the bump now especially in the never ending school holidays. Got a planned section booked for the 16th so not long to go whatever happens! Congratulations to everyone who’s already had their baby - those struggling with breastfeeding I was there with baby #1 and it does get easier a few weeks in. Best advice I had was don’t quit on a bad day, but don’t feel guilty or bad if you do decide to switch. A happier/less stressed mum will be so beneficial for baby.

LozzieLoo · 07/01/2024 11:30

@Redpanda21 hope you’re getting somewhere!
Ive just moved to a delivery room to have my waters broken. Was ready at 6pm yesterday but also had to wait for the room.
Seems a long time since I was brought in for the induction Friday!

Gremlin84 · 07/01/2024 11:42

The giant maternity pants are officially deployed. The big “normal” ones I bought provided good service but don’t really fit anymore. Even giant stretchy comfy things are reaching their limit. Conflicting feelings of wanting some more time to potter and prepare but also feeling really ungainly and awkward.

Redpanda21 · 07/01/2024 12:17

@LozzieLoo still waiting. I am contracting again but not overly painful. Feels like I’ve been here a week already!

FirstT1meMum · 07/01/2024 15:16

We are finally gaining some weight! DD has gained 85g in the last 2 days so something is finally working! The feeding team have given us a hospital grade pump to express to see if that will help our breast feeding journey. Thank you to everyone who shared their breast feeding experiences, it helps to know that it's not unusual to struggle ❤️

Onedayatatime24 · 07/01/2024 16:56

Gosh so much going on now, exciting times! Good luck to those nearly there and with new arrivals. 😍

That's really great news @FirstT1meMum! 🥰

So we had an Indian takeaway last night (not to start labour really, just fancied one) and then I spent all last night being violently sick. So either baby says a big fat no to curry or I've got some kind of stomach bug. Been in bed all day having tiny sips of water. Only just managing a slice of plain toast now. Have felt baby move a little but not loads, assuming this is because I've not really ate/drank/moved today. Is this normal? He was wiggling quite a bit during the night while I was throwing up which was not particularly pleasant.. Also if contractions are anything like the stomach pain I had last night then my plans for a natural birth are already out the window 😂

Booklover88 · 07/01/2024 17:00

@FirstT1meMum great news, well done you! ❤️

Luhou · 07/01/2024 17:44

@Onedayatatime24 sorry you're feeling poorly. I also was very sick last night unsure if it was food related or pregnancy.

My kicks generally have been just as frequent but a lot less strong over the last few days I just imagine baby has no space to move. I have to concentrate to feel them.

If you're concerned get checked out. X

IzzyMas · 07/01/2024 18:58

@Luhou I've been much more settled today but all I've had is a small bowl of soup. Yesterday I was vile.

FirstT1meMum · 07/01/2024 19:44

@Onedayatatime24 @Booklover88 thank you ❤️
Had a go with the hospital pump but still only managed 5ml so still a bit disheartened but hoping it's just because I need to use it more 🤞

sashastuck · 07/01/2024 19:44

@Luhou in my last few days of pregnancy during my induction I barely felt baby move at all. Was really weird as I obviously spend loads of time on the monitor over the course of 3 days and could see baby was more than happy but it’s like he knew I was in safe hands and decided to completely scare me 😂 must have been completely out of room!!

@FirstT1meMum amazing news, well done you and bubba xx

Luhou · 07/01/2024 20:04

@IzzyMas pleased you're feeling better

@sashastuck good to know. I'm enjoying the excuse to go for a quiet lie down to focus on babies movements. He has been more active this afternoon.

For those that have already delivered, are your babies fitting well into up to 1mth clothes or do you wish you'd gone straight into 0-3? I have a lot of smaller stuff 🙈, although baby measuring small and my first was only 6lb 7

Hummusanddipdip · 07/01/2024 20:10

@Luhou I had a lot of tiny baby stuff that he's skipped right over (ds1 was tiny, so went in with that expectation on repeat, a lot was gifted) he's in newborn at the moment, but can imagine he'll be moving to 1 month size soon as newborn fits perfectly at 3 days... 0-3 is too long at the moment but suspect he'll be in them before I realise.

edit he was 7lbs 8 at birth

Luhou · 07/01/2024 20:16

@Hummusanddipdip that's good to know, thanks. I haven't got tiny baby a few newborn bits and a reasonable amount up to 1month

Enjoy those newborn snuggles!
