@Luhou my baby was 8lbs8 and is fitting into newborn! Don’t think he will for longer than 2 weeks as he’s got long legs but I’m glad I didn’t under-buy newborn clothes.

Mushroo · 07/01/2024 20:45

@Luhou mine was 6 pounds 10 and at two weeks were very much still in newborn. I had to buy a few more bits - were very well stocked for next size up but didn’t have that much newborn!

Booklover88 · 07/01/2024 21:11

@Luhou my little girl is in up to 1 month, she was 7 pounds 10 at birth but it’s all in her height-she’s long and skinny! She’s too tall for newborn but would fit in them width ways xx

Booklover88 · 07/01/2024 21:13

@FirstT1meMum I’ve just been sat expressing and haven’t got much either-was joking to my husband that I’d need to express for about a month to get one of those breastfeeding necklaces 🤣 apparently between 4am and 10am is the best time to express and lots of people don’t get much in the evening xx

ndavies22 · 07/01/2024 21:41

Hey everyone! It's lovely to hear about all these new babies and hoping I'm not too far behind you all!
I'm 38 weeks (tomorrow) and have been getting really strong BH's for the past two days. Along with back ache and some crampy type feelings but nothing that falls into a pattern as far as I've noticed so far. This evening I decided to joint my DP for a dog walk and since then I've been having really sharp shooting pains in (what feels like) my cervix. I have also had bad diarrhoea (sorry TMI), which is unusual for me at the moment as I've been constipated from iron tablets!
Has anyone else experienced these sorts of feelings before labour or am I wishful thinking? This is my second pregnancy and my DS1 came on his due date.

FirstT1meMum · 07/01/2024 21:58

@Luhou DD was 6 lb 15 at birth and we had to go and buy a lot of newborn as 0-3 absolutely drowns her! It doesn't help that she still crosses her legs like in the womb 🤣 when she stretches her legs fit but everything is still a touch too big!

@Booklover88 yeah it's so frustrating then I get annoyed at myself because I know stress plays a part! Going to see if I can get a pump in overnight and see if that makes a difference!

Salamander91 · 07/01/2024 22:50

My baby was 8lb 12oz and up to 1 month was baggy but wearable. He'll be 3 weeks on Wednesday and they fit well now.

Lilothblos · 08/01/2024 08:36

@ndavies22 crossing my fingers for you that this means things are getting moving! I think the diarrhoea is a good sign.

I’ve been crampy for the past couple of weeks and it’s driving me nuts waiting to see if they form any kind of pattern! Currently 39+3.

Hi everyone, looking for some advice. We went to triage last night for reduced movements, everything was fine and baby is moving normally again this morning. However they want me to go for another CTG today and a scan tomorrow. The doctor also offered me an induction as I'm 39+1 today... If baby's movements are fine then is there any reason I would take this induction? I'm keen to let baby come when he wants and I lost my mucus plug yesterday so I think things are moving naturally, even if slowly. I'm just not sure why they would offer an induction if baby is all okay? And I'm half tempted to take it as I'm so fed up but is that just selfish and potentially putting myself at more risk?? Ahh can't decide.

Obviously completely up to you what you decide but I would definitely be quizzing the doctor on why he is suggesting an induction when there appears to be no medical reason for one. From what I read they do seem to hand them out unnecessarily and the stats on pain/duration are never as good as waiting. I agree with you that if my mucus plug had gone, I'd be tempted to hang on. But as I say - you know your body best! Good luck ☺️

Onedayatatime24 · 08/01/2024 09:11

@Lululumpkin yep that's what I'm thinking and leaning towards just waiting it out! It was 1am so I didn't think to ask much last night and wasn't expecting to be offered one after they said everything was fine! Will give them a grilling today if they offer again...

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 08/01/2024 09:26

@Mummyme87 congratulations!!

@Onedayatatime24 it's tricky. You'll have more info after your scan when they'll be focusing on the doppler, and the growth I'd imagine. Is it your first episode of reduced movements? If the Doppler looks high on your scan, or the growth is tailing off, they might offer you induction again. I did take it with my son (I also had GD) as there was some evidence of possible asymmetrical growth restriction. And I just wanted him safely out ASAP as I was really worried. However my Doppler was fine and my placenta was fine when they examined it so I might have been okay to wait. It's just so tricky to say - definitely ask to discuss if you aren't sure. The alternative is they might get you in for regular monitoring instead

Onedayatatime24 · 08/01/2024 10:11

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 yes, first episode of reduced movements and I'm pretty sure it was because I'd been so ill the night before. If the scan shows something is a little off then I'd definitely be more inclined to take the induction and just get him here safe. I'm not totally anti-induction and will do whatever the doctors recommend if there's a reason for doing so. It is so hard to know what's right at this point and a bit scary! As I could decline an induction and need one in 1-2 weeks anyway if I don't go into labour so who knows. But would very likely go for the induction if there's anything concerning on the scan I think.

Mummyme87 · 08/01/2024 10:23

It’s pretty standard in most units that if you go in with reduced movements after a certain gestation (39 or 40wks depending on trust) to be offered IOL, not knowing as to what is causing the RFM, baby is Term so it’s safer to try and get them out, we know placenta starts to deteriorate around term. If all the findings from the tests ie scan and ctg are normal then you do with that what you will.
inductions aren’t the easy answer or way out that many doctors see them as.

Luhou · 08/01/2024 11:19

@Onedayatatime24 I was induced for reduced movements with DD1, with hind sight I wish I'd of stuck it out a bit more. It is tempting but my induction experience was not the best and all the monitoring for baby was fine. But movement for me had been reduced all throughout pregnancy. also think I'd of likely gone into natural labour a few days later. Maybe consider a sweep as an alternative option? And obviously regular monitoring.

Onedayatatime24 · 08/01/2024 11:40

@Mummyme87 ah I didn't realise it was a standard thing after so long! It does seem strange that they offer them out if all else is normal and looking healthy but I guess always better to be safe than sorry. I think if all tests/scans etc show everything is fine then I'll try and hold on if he keeps movements up as normal.

@Luhou a couple of people have said the same thing, that they wished they'd waited even just a couple of days longer but they did say it's easy to say now in hindsight without knowing what might've happened, so tricky to know what's best in the moment.

Sweep is a good idea, I might see if they'll try that first before inducing. I have a sweep booked for next Tuesday anyway so will see what the scan says tomorrow and then might try and bring that forward a little.

Thanks everyone for sharing!

sashastuck · 08/01/2024 19:13

@Onedayatatime24 it is a really tricky decision. Just to add a slightly different perspective, I was induced last week and it wasn’t medically necessary per se, but I accepted it and even asked for it to be brought a day forward. The induction experience wasn’t pleasant at all and took a few days but I don’t regret it at all and I don’t think I’d have gone into labour on my own within that period, I had no signs at all and it took all the induction techniques to get me going!! I know it’s a hard decision to make x

IzzyMas · 08/01/2024 19:56

I feel like a neglectful person, I try to keep up with all the goings on here but it's all too fast for me. Sorry if I've not congratulated anyone x

ndavies22 · 08/01/2024 20:01

Hi everyone, just to update you all that I came for a routine appointment today and they kept me in for induction tonight or tomorrow morning. Wish me luck!!! ☺️

Luhou · 08/01/2024 20:04

Best of luck @ndavies22

I've been in for reduced movement today, monitoring all fine - been sent home.

Awaiting my next growth scan on wednesday, I think that will be telling as last 3 growth scans have showed drop of in predicted growth. I suspect that if that's the case again on Wednesday they will offer me an IOL.

Onedayatatime24 · 08/01/2024 21:55

@sashastuck it seems a real 50/50 when it comes to inductions and if people would recommend them or not! I do know people who have had them and still had a nice birth so really depends who you ask. Out of interest, why did you go for it (if you don't mind sharing!)? I've been so uncomfortable the last couple of days and keep flip flopping on if I'd go for it if offered again or not.

@ndavies22 eek good luck!

MrsJ6921 · 08/01/2024 22:05

@Onedayatatime24 I was induced at 37+3 and I do not regret it at all. Albeit a frustrating wait for a bed on delivery suite to have my waters broke and quite a traumatic birth I wouldn’t go back and change it. My body and mentally I was ready to have my baby and definitely would not of made it to my due date 5th January as I was already 1cm dilated

sashastuck · 08/01/2024 23:11

@Onedayatatime24 I went for it for similar reasons as @MrsJ6921 - only difference is I do think I would have gone over 40 weeks and I was warned baby was on the bigger side so I ideally wanted him out before due date. We tried everything to start spontaneous labour in the 2 weeks before and nothing worked so we were just so ready to meet our baby! For me it was worth the pain. Horrid labour but as people say, I’ve now gotten over it already and would probably accept being induced again!

Salamander91 · 08/01/2024 23:20

Good luck @ndavies22

Out of interest was he bigger than expected when he actually came out? I'm mindful they may suggest an induction tomorrow on the basis of my baby being big (he was 82nd percentile) but I would still much rather wait as I know these measurements can be very inaccurate!
