@TrudyProud theres not really time limits as such, everywhere does it differently. And there’s never a never. We may do a mechanical IOL first followed by pessary if first didn’t work… but if they absolutely will not do pessary for you then can’t see why two attempts of mechanical wouldn’t be okay..

fingers crossed you won’t need it all and you will start labouring soon.

Hi, as a first timer I wonder how you cope with the 'I'm sick of this, I want this baby out of me now' last phase of pregnancy?

Any tips gratefully appreciated x

Luhou · 03/01/2024 19:21

@IzzyMas I'd say try keep busy if you can and feel able, coffee dates, seeing family, little projects at home, box sets.

Enjoy the time with your partner too, as you'll never go back to just being a two. Definitely squeeze a date day in if possible.

I've been having back pain that radiates to my stomach and causes tightenings since 5pm. It's so painful, making me think it's the real deal but then doesn't seem to be falling into any kind of pattern timings wise, anybody found first contractions completely random?

IzzyMas · 03/01/2024 19:25

@Luhou I'm still quite active it's just like I can see the finish line but not quite reach it. It's more the psychological effects than the discomfort, although that's all too real now.

Onedayatatime24 · 03/01/2024 20:04

@IzzyMas I'm with you! I just keep trying to think I'll never have this time back being just me and DH, but I'm so impatient anyway it's not working that well. 😂 Also keep reading the longer baby is in there (to a point), the more developed and ready for the outside he'll be. Also trying to get lots of rest knowing I probably won't be able to lie on the sofa uninterrupted for much longer! It's really tough not knowing when it might happen though, I'm a planner and a bit of a control freak so definitely finding these last couple of weeks hard.

IzzyMas · 03/01/2024 20:08

@Onedayatatime24 I really have loved being pregnant, but I just want my body back haha, especially my bladder. I'm at the tipping point.

Inmydreams88 · 03/01/2024 20:24

@IzzyMas I’m 40 weeks today, no signs really yet so just waiting. I’m trying to enjoy sleeping in, the peace and quiet and reading as much as I can before baby is here!

I am getting impatient though, I’m getting more and more uncomfortable and my maternity leggings are getting tight so I really need him out soon 🤣 Potentially I could be pregnant another 2 weeks though as I’m in no rush to be induced.

Anyone had a sweep today?

Any news from @sashastuck ?

Onedayatatime24 · 03/01/2024 20:25

@IzzyMas oh absolutely, sick of needing a wee every 5 mins and just want to be able to roll over in bed or go up the stairs without lightning crotch! Also clothes... Even my comfy clothes aren't fitting that well anymore!

IzzyMas · 03/01/2024 20:29

@Onedayatatime24 @Inmydreams88 I suppose I'm just moaning haha, still a bit immature. I must snap out of it. But you're right, I want a bladder bigger than a pea and to fit my clothes again!

MacMummy95 · 03/01/2024 20:46

Hope you don't mind me jumping on this thread so close to the end.
It's exciting that the January babies have started making an appearance. I'm 38 (+2) with baby number 2 and experiencing some BH every now and then. First baby (3 in Feb) was born 3 days late following a sweep. She wasn't happy though and ended with CS.
I have one booked for 3 days after my DD this time, but hoping that will have a successful VBAC.

Mummyme87 · 03/01/2024 21:01

@Luhou how are the tightenings?

Luhou · 03/01/2024 21:03

@Mummyme87 I'd say they're less like tightenings now and more just really bad period pain and back ache. Plus some sharp pain in my vagina now too. Feeling quite shakey. In quite a lot of discomfort though had to come to bed.

Luhou · 03/01/2024 21:04

@MacMummy95 welcome! Hope your pregnancy journey has been smooth so far and you can have a VBAC this time round.

Mummyme87 · 03/01/2024 21:07

@Luhou your body gearing up! Take some paracetamol and see if you can get some sleep. Exciting!

sashastuck · 03/01/2024 22:48

@Inmydreams88 short and sweet, no baby here yet but expecting him in the next couple/few hours. Had the epidural after what I can only describe as contractions from HELL, now feeling waaaay better despite that not being my plan. It’s been a long old day waiting for a room on the delivery ward so this only really kicked off around 5pm x

@Luhou eeeek exciting times!! Have that rest!

@MacMummy95 congratulations and welcome

Hummusanddipdip · 03/01/2024 23:10

Think labour has started here, I've come to bed to try and get some sleep as contractions are a steady 10 minutes apart, I've been able to breath and move through them all. But have a feeling we may be going to the hospital in the morning.

KayakingBex · 03/01/2024 23:58

Hi, I’m late to this thread but congratulations to all the new mums already. Thought I’d add myself as been finding various threads on mumsnet useful.

I’m due on the 31st. Got another growth scan tomorrow and hoping all is going better with baby from last scan. Last scan just before Christmas they said he had dropped from 90th percentile to 60th percentile although they did say it’s possible there had been a miss-measurement at one of the scans so I’m hoping the measurement was just off. Baby kicks have been keeping me reassured over Christmas.

KayakingBex · 04/01/2024 00:11

Good luck @Hummusanddipdip i hope all goes smoothly 🤞

Luhou · 04/01/2024 07:45

@sashastuck best of luck, I remember such relief from my epidural with my DD. Get some rest, I managed a nap before all the pushing!

@Hummusanddipdip exciting! I was having really frequent pains every 10mins last night was expecting to be up in the night but just had a normal night. Some pains again this morning, but not debilitating. So perhaps a false alarm for me, either way all preparation! I've got my mw home visist this morning.

@KayakingBex hi! I've had the same experience with growth scans, was on 65th, dropped to about 50th and then last growth scan 37th. Being scanned fortnightly. I am not to concerned as they really over estimated my last baby, said she was 10lb and she came out on the 37th percentile, which is now what they're estimating me to be on with this pregnancy, so using that as a marker rather than the accuracy of previous growth scans. Doctor was not concerned when he reviewed my chart either.

IzzyMas · 04/01/2024 08:53

@Luhou @KayakingBex It's a relief they overestimated you. My bump has got really massive in the last few weeks, I look like I'm having twins. Everything's apparently going smoothly though, fingers crossed.

KayakingBex · 04/01/2024 09:53

@Luhou yeah threw me for a loop initially, I’d been feeling the best I’d been all pregnancy so started feeling maybe me feeling good was a bad sign - but I did some reading + seeing others experiences and realised what a wide margin of error there is for growth scans. Hoping this is a more reassuring scan 🤞

Vikki7 · 04/01/2024 10:31

Congrats to all the new Mamas and babies!

I wonder if anyone on here is an absolute expert on breastfeeding?

We are in hospital at the moment with feeding problems, baby has lost around 13% of birth weight and 3% just yesterday alone when I did 24 hours without topping up with formula 🥺

I'm on the hospital pump (Medela symphony), breastfeeding and giving 60ml formula every 3 hours.

I'm pumping only 2ml combined every 3 hours, the most I've got is 4ml, both breasts. Baby has been on the breast constantly at home but is never satisfied and now he has lost so much weight, he is too tired to eat. He doesn't wake for a feed.

I've made changes in my diet and drinking coconut water, loads of fluids, eating good carbs and generally trying anything I can to help.

What could be going on? Why isn't my body producing sufficient milk to feed my son? I have an under active thyroid but it's managed well and tested recently to be in a good range. Other than that I'm baffled. I couldn't feed my other 2 children either so I was determined to make this work as he's my last baby! Can anyone think of anything I'm doing wrong or I'm missing?

We've been checked for latch, holding positions and transfer of milk etc but apart from very minor adjustments, it's perfect.

I'm devastated and feel so inadequate and not good enough for my boy.

@Vikki7 I'm so sorry, hope you and baby are okay. You're not doing anything wrong at all. There's nothing wrong with combi feeding. Just so sorry you're going through this

Gremlin84 · 04/01/2024 13:44

@Vikki7 sorry to hear you’re going through that. NCT has a breast feeding helpline that’s open most of the day, but sounds like you’re getting all the correct support in hospital including working to increase supply; you’re certainly not doing anything wrong.

Remember that combi feeding to top up your supply and get baby back up to weight is absolutely fine. It also doesn’t mean that’s a permanent thing - our nct breast feeding person was reassuring that it’s possible to establish exclusive breastfeeding after baby has needed to be on formula for a bit by doing things like pumping to up supply etc. if that’s what mum wants.

Just keep talking to the breastfeeding support people at hospital, ask to see a lactation consultant if you haven’t seen one already.

Hoping you and baby are back on an even keel soon

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 04/01/2024 14:16

@Vikki7 also I remember when my son was in NICU, some of the mums were on domperidone to boost supply to pump enough m. Not sure if that's an option, but maybe something you could mention to the lactation consultants
