For all those waiting for their little ones, I just wanted to share my experience so far, as it’s been very positive much to my surprise! For context, I really was on the fence about having kids, and really was dreading the newborn baby stage, and saw it as something to just get out the way.

6 days in, I am shattered, but so so in love and it’s the best thing I’ve ever done.

The birth itself was long, but the worst part was the lack of sleep over 4 days of being in hospital. Although the c section wasn’t the plan, the recovery is going great and at day 6 I’ve been able to go on a few walks, out to the pub, and I’m popping to a New Year’s party later.

Breastfeeding is getting better each day - day 2/3 my nipples were killing me and I was dreading each feed. However, this is now improved a lot and latching is quick. Highly highly recommend the silver nipple shields.

I’ve also been having DH do a formula night feed so I sleep from about 10pm - 2am. This has been a game changer and means I feel human. Yesterday I used the haakaa and expressed enough that he could use expressed milk rather than formula. She’s already back at birth weight (5 days in) so midwife was very pleased.

Little one is also now sleeping in the cot for a few hour stretches.

I just wanted to share as I’ve been very pleasantly surprised, and although hard, it really is the best so far.

This is wonderful to read. It sounds like you are thriving. The formula/expressed milk bottle in the evening is a great pro tip.

Can't believe you are 6 days in and managing a New Year's Eve party tonight. I am 38 weeks & going nowhere 😂. You are very inspiring. Looove hearing this positive outcome from a fencesitter re: having kids.

Seems that motherhood suits you.

How is everyone doing? Any NYE babies?

I'm 37+6 & have been having period pain-like cramps today & yesterday. My first baby was induced so it's highly likely I'll be induced again but can't help hoping that these pains will lead somewhere.

Onedayatatime24 · 31/12/2023 16:40

@Hummusanddipdip glad it's not just me! I'll be reading a book or just sat relaxing then all of a sudden feel dreadful, so strange!

@Mushroo this is really nice to hear! I've been quite worried about newborn stage as both me and DH are useless in no sleep. I never thought of asking DH to do a night feed really, especially if breastfeeding so good to hear that option is working for you, will deffo give that a try if we can make it work!

@Kirova go easy on yourself, it's not for long and your older girls will understand (and probably don't mind cheese sandwiches and pasta tbh!). Everything's a phase and you'll get through this too. ❤️

Luhou · 31/12/2023 17:05

@Mushroo pleased to hear you're doing so well. I can't wait to come out the other side and be home with new baby.

Anybody else feeling like a wicked witch? Been completely unreasonable to DH this afternoon but my tolerance is just 0. Feeling really emotional about it all now.

Mummyme87 · 31/12/2023 19:44

@Sunriseandcoffee I'm 38+2, induced with last two and have IOL for Saturday. Very much thought something was happening today but seems to have settled luckily as I’m no where near ready nor do I have childcare!!!

Luhou · 31/12/2023 19:56

@Sunriseandcoffee I've also been expiring cramps (37 + 4) also previously induced. Would like to go into labour without IOL ideally this time! Knowing my luck I will either go into labour this Tuesday as that will be my first day to myself of maternity leave or be induced at 42 weeks.

Inmydreams88 · 01/01/2024 10:44

I can’t believe it’s actually January!!
Wednesday is my due date. But no induction or c section planned, so just waiting. I’ve had a stressful week with an infected cyst that needed a couple trips to A&E to have it drained and dressed. My anxiety is high as I spent 3 hours in the waiting room with people coughing and sneezing all around me and I’m convinced that I’m going to catch something just in time for labour. I’ve been really really emotional and can’t stop tearing up, not sure there’s been a day this past week where I haven’t cried!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/01/2024 11:50

@Luhou that would be Sod's law for sure, so it'll prob be one or the other 🤣 but I'm hoping not!

@Mummyme87 hopefully something will happen this week before your IOL!

@Inmydreams88 sorry you've had cysts, hope you're feeling better

sashastuck · 01/01/2024 12:54

@Inmydreams88 gosh sorry to hear that, sounds awful. I’ve been super emotional too. Hope baby comes for you soon so you’ve not too much waiting around.

My induction has started… got the pessary in now but they’re letting me go home until contractions start. Getting it put in was PAINFUL, in my head I kept thinking it’s only
going to get worse, I cried 😂

Luhou · 01/01/2024 14:05

@Inmydreams88 sorry you've had a tough week, I'm also feeling quite emotional. Just all those hormones!

@sashastuck exciting, keep us posted! Good they've let you home! I actually found the pessary like on par with labour pains to be honest. It is painful.

Mummyme87 · 01/01/2024 15:09

@sashastuck ah glad you have an outpatient IOL, they are typically more successful 🤞🏻 the pain of the propess going in is totally different to anything else, you’ve got this!!

sashastuck · 01/01/2024 15:12

Eeek thank you!

TrudyProud · 01/01/2024 22:03

That's awesome @sashastuck . How are you getting on? How many weeks are you?
What was your cervix like for them to agree to an Outpatient IOL?

I'm going in tomorrow for (another) sweep. I'll be 39+2 - last check I was 1cm dilated, long and posterior cervix. Baby working her way anterior in head down position

sashastuck · 02/01/2024 04:47

@TrudyProud doing alright thank you - I’m up now as I think contractions have started, it’s hard to tell exactly when they’re coming because I don’t think the pain/pressure is fully leaving each time but I’ll be heading back in in the next hour or so!

They didn’t say what my cervix was like but I’m going to guess pretty closed as getting the pessary in seemed like a difficult job, she had me sit on my fists to lift me up a bit. I’m 39+5 today x

TrudyProud · 02/01/2024 15:12

Fingers crossed for you @sashastuck ! Let us know how you get on.

39+2 today and no change 😢. Gonna go buy more raspberry leaf tea, dates and add some evening primrose oil to the mix.
I spoke with a consultant today and he said outpatient was unlikely if I had an induction because I've had a previous CS. Also said the likely induction method would be balloon (mechanical) but nothing hormonal due to previous CS.

Luhou · 02/01/2024 15:33

@TrudyProud also feeling the need to up the natural methods. Will give the raspberry leaf tea a go.

Staying active here at least. Just finished painting the nursery! 🙈Time for a bubble bath before nursery pick up though.

Fingers crossed something starts for you soon. I'm 37 + 5 so 10 days behind.

Inmydreams88 · 02/01/2024 19:40

Good luck @sashastuck I hope things are going well.

I’m 40 weeks tomorrow! 😬
I think I’ve been having some tightenings which I think are BH and I’m feeling a lot of pressure down there on and off. I have no idea if this means anything to be honest, I was getting pressure a few weeks ago but it tapered off.

Onedayatatime24 · 02/01/2024 19:45

38+2 here and getting impatient (I know I could have a few weeks still!). They've booked me for a sweep at 40+2 but definitely hoping something happens before then. 🤞 I feel like my tummy has been getting very tight at times but it lasts quite a while sometimes, like 10 mins+ so not sure if it's BH or just when baby has shifted himself right at the front. Also had period like feeling in my uterus area, not strong though just general bit of queasy feeling.

lucya66 · 02/01/2024 19:55

Good luck ladies! I’m 40w2d and have a potential sweep tomorrow

Onedayatatime24 · 02/01/2024 21:38

@lucya66 good luck for your sweep! Let me know how it goes, I'm a bit nervous for mine as heard they're not that comfortable. Have you had one before?

lucya66 · 02/01/2024 21:51

@Onedayatatime24 I’ll let you know. Not had one before, no.

Lilly0011 · 02/01/2024 21:55

Hi mom somone had experience with ECV after previous c section..today I had an ultrasound and the baby is still breech.. on Friday they want to try ECV from outside.. but the doctor told me that there are a lot of risks since I come from a caesarean section.. Thank you

TrudyProud · 02/01/2024 22:39

Thanks @Luhou !
@lucya66 I had gas and air for my sweeps plus lidocaine as I hate vaginal exams. Really great for me. I think I'm rare as most people grin and bare it . Annoyingly my cervix is still posterior at 39+2 so am having sweeps every 48hrs

Mummyme87 · 02/01/2024 22:46

@TrudyProud we outpatient IOL for prev CS with balloon or dilapan, but that’s very trust dependent. I’ll be having pessary IOL again, had it last time and my consultant is quite pro it even for prev CS 🤞🏻
hopefully your sweeps start doing something. I’m going to have one on Thursday before IOL Saturday.

TrudyProud · 03/01/2024 00:18

Thanks for sharing @Mummyme87 . I have my 40 week MW appointment on Friday and based on what you said I googled for my NHS trust and it says outpatient IOL may be possible even for a vbac so will ask again and specifically reference their literature (couldn't this morning as was new news).

I'm going to try another sweep on Thursday and hopefully my cervix is more favourable (as at today I'm on the 6 dates, raspberry leaf tea, raspberry leaf tablets and EPO - oral and vaginally ) . I've been told that a central but ideally anterior cervix makes an induction more likely to work so hoping to hear my cervix is playing ball so I can spontaneously labour.
If it's still posterior I may take the decision not to bother with IOL and just have a repeat CS.

Do you know how long they allow IOL go for in vbac patients? Ie could I try Saturday then if baby hasn't arrived Sunday try again on Monday ? My CS is booked so running through the art of the possible in the coming days.

Good luck with your IOL our babies could have the same birthday 🥳
