Hi all! I'm 4 weeks exactly today, due date is 4th August ☺️ This will (hopefully) be DC2!

How is everyone feeling? I've got sore boobs, mild cramps and waves of nausea that I didn't get until week 6 with my DD so I guess it's starting early, lucky me 🥳

Sorry I think there is some messages on here but I'm in a panic. I've just gone to the toilet and there has been some discharge along with some pink through it. I'm 5 weeks today and totally panicking. I also have cramps and currently on a work night out so trying to keep a level head 😢

Pearlandmoon · 18/12/2023 17:49

Is there anyone in this thread from Northern Ireland? This is my first pregnancy so I'm not too familiar with how things work!! I did the self referral online to maternity services and I've now received a date for my first appointment and scan through for when I'll be 11+4, is this normal to not have an appointment prior to this?

TigerJoy · 18/12/2023 17:57

Hello all slightly weird question

I'd like to get some babygrows for my husband for christmas - obvs for the baby really, but some funny ones that'll make him smile.

As I'm due mid-Aug should I be looking at short sleeve ones or would long sleeve ones still be useful? Should I get a mix of newborn and 0-3 months? I'm an older mum so don't think they'll let me go overterm and end up with a whopper. This is our first so I've no idea what's useful...

PolkaDotDot · 18/12/2023 18:02

@TigerJoy I would get both! From what I remember, last August wasn't the warmest so would be handy.

Is anyone else ridiculously hungry all the time?! I wasn't like this in my first pregnancy and actually remember going off food really early on. I could eat the entire contents of my fridge right now!

PolkaDotDot · 18/12/2023 18:05

@FirstTimeMumma2021 big hugs! Try not to panic. Keep an eye on it and ring your midwife/hospital this eve or tomorrow morning if you're worried but I have read that pinkish discharge happens and can be absolutely fine.

TigerJoy · 18/12/2023 18:06

@PolkaDotDot I am both hungry and nauseous all the time. Generally the only time I don't feel sick is when I have just eaten a piece of christmas cake or a mince pie!

TigerJoy · 18/12/2023 18:07

@PolkaDotDot craving carbs and sugar above all things

Sav2023 · 18/12/2023 18:11

@SnookyPook yes I have been having on and off back pain but I haven’t been worried about it. I get back pain outside of pregnancy and with how I have been feeling I’ve not been as active as I usually would. It’s easy to worry about every ache and pain when pregnant, I totally do the same!
@FirstTimeMumma2021 I had some very pale pink discharge on Saturday evening, followed be a tiny amount of pale brown discharge. It has stopped so I’m not worrying about it atm as wasn’t a lot and I still have strong pregnancy symptoms.
It’s difficult to not worry, my last pregnancy which ended in a MMC in September was just full of worry and stress, in the end made no difference to the outcome. This time I’m just taking it one day at a time and trying to not become overly worried unless I get a really bad symptom (fingers crossed that doesn’t happen😭). I also have an incredibly sweet and patient husband who listens to my worries and puts my mind at rest which helps. 😊

Mollydog1234 · 18/12/2023 18:37

Hiya, I'm 5 weeks pregnant today, second pregnancy and have been watching a long. Congratulations everyone :D just wondering what everyone is doing about the flu /.COVID Jabs? I'm driving myself mad with pros and cons. I had both in my last pregnancy but I was already in third trimester when winter rolled around so it's seems the stakes are completely different just 5 weeks in.

FluffyKitty007 · 18/12/2023 18:49

@graceinc22 i was thinking along the same lines that I would like to get support if things didn’t go according to the plan. I told only a couple of friends so far

CurlyWurly1991 · 18/12/2023 18:58

@Mollydog1234 I would get both jabs. I had the flu jab a couple of weeks ago. Due to scheduling I couldn’t get covid at the same time. I was booked to go and get the covid jab at the same place last Tuesday but changed my mind at the last minute. I got covid symptoms on Friday and tested positive Saturday. It’s really awful in the first trimester and has hit me much harder than when I was not pregnant! I wish I could have got the covid jab with flu as I wouldn’t be in this situation. Afaik the covid booster programme runs autumn only, and covid is very high right now.

pontipinemum · 18/12/2023 19:11

@TigerJoy I would get long ones ages 0-3 or 1 month. Don't get newborn. They don't fit loads of babies. My DS was born in July 2022 and it was roasting but he still needed long sleeve baby grows going to bed. They've just come out for a hot womb.

@PolkaDotDot yes! I was the same with DS, I gained loads of weight in the 1st trimester and not so much in 2/3 so it evened out.

RiverBear · 18/12/2023 19:14

@PolkaDotDot me! I woke up last night at 1:45am feeling sick to my stomach cause I was so hungry. I had to get up to eat a bread roll and that was enough to get me to go to sleep. This evening I've had a huge bowl of pesto pasta and some cadbury's heroes and my stomach is still rumbling. Was feeling sick then starving over the past few days but today I'm just starving 🐷

CharTT33 · 18/12/2023 19:16

@FirstTimeMumma2021 I am going through the exact same right now except I’m 7 weeks today… I have a scan in the EPU tomorrow…

Isitisit · 18/12/2023 19:20

I had flu and covid jabs at 5weeks. I had no side effects and both arms recovered in a couple days whereas often it can take a week for me.

warmbutteredtoast · 18/12/2023 19:24

Also starving all the time!! My mother in law is staying and it's so difficult to hide the constant eating!!

I'm also wondering about covid vaccine. I've got the flu one tmw, have most ppl had both already?

warmbutteredtoast · 18/12/2023 19:26

@FirstTimeMumma2021 I'm so sorry I totally know the panic. Try to get a scan in the morning? Thinking of you, I had a bleed at a wedding once, horrendous

TigerJoy · 18/12/2023 19:31

Anyone else getting cramping?

It's so weird, it's a very familiar period pain feeling, right in the uterus and starting to get into the lower back.

It made me so happy, clearly a sign the little bean is still in there and burrowing down!

DisneyLady1 · 18/12/2023 19:33

@Pearlandmoon I'm from Northern Ireland and it is my second pregnancy here. Yes you are right, you'll get your booking appointment around 10 weeks ish (just over for me, as 10 weeks falls over Christmas) and then the first scan around 12-13 weeks i think from memory. It might depend on the trust you are with.

DisneyLady1 · 18/12/2023 19:35

@PolkaDotDot I'm so hungry too! With my first I think i lost weight in the first tri, but this time my jeans are definitely getting tight in a matter of weeks!! I hope this hunger doesn't last all the way through... I will be unrecognisable haha.

Starving!!! Honestly I could eat for England. With my first I think I had just found out at this point and I don't remember being this hungry. I'm diabetic though so have to watch what I eat.
Maybe it's also the weather..it was hot last time for me!!

FluffyKitty007 · 18/12/2023 19:58

@Mollydog1234 @CurlyWurly1991 i planned to get both jabs but the website where you could book them closed on 15 December. My appointment letter came by post and also said that the hospital has a vaccine clinic on twice a week, including when I have my appointment so I plan to arrange it for then

Alim0 · 18/12/2023 21:02

Hi everyone

I found out I was pregnant for the first time last week and am now 5 weeks. I called the doctors today to find out what happens now and the girl sounded quite confused and put me on hold straight away. When she came back she said they normally book in for a first appointment at 8 weeks which will take an hour and asked when I would be 8weeks and that was all.
I'm now googling and am OVERWHELMED with all the information as this is the first time I've been in this position.
Looking back I feel like i should have been told basic information such as take folic acid, things to avoid, what are normal symptoms I could experience and what the hour long appointment would entail and anything I need to take with me. Is this how the initial call should have gone? I felt like I was just booking a table for dinner! What have all your experiences been like?

justlonelystars · 18/12/2023 21:05

@PolkaDotDot I’m also starving! Can’t get enough meat or (weirdly) barbecue sauce - which I don’t normally eat! Also seem to have a much sweeter tooth than my first pregnancy. We had honey harissa salmon tonight and I swear I could have eaten about 6 salmon fillets 🤤

justlonelystars · 18/12/2023 21:07

@Alim0 are you in the UK? I have never seen the doctor for either of my pregnancies but referred myself straight to the midwives. As to the things to avoid/supplements, you’re not really told anything until you’re booking in appointment. I just got myself on the nhs website and learnt what I needed to take/avoid.
