I'm 34w today and had a really good day preparing for baby :) nursery furniture is now constructed and although not everything is finished the room is at least usable now for baby!

I've also pretty much finished packing both of our hospital bags.

Still loads to do to get the house in order, and really need to sort out the car seat but I'm feeling 100x more prepared than a couple of days ago!

Hankthehonk · 31/12/2023 07:10

@LavenderSweetPea Congrats! That all sounds exciting. Are you going for a particular colour or theme for the nursery?
Hoping I'll be feeling similarly organised by this time next week, I've finally ordered some things we need and got some other things second hand like a nice nursing chair. Next week we're sending our 3 year old to my parents for a couple of days do we can clear out the house, get Xmas stuff away, and get organised for the baby. I'm 32w but want to do the bulk of it before I'm back at work as I know I'll be just too exhausted for that last few working weeks.

So different from my first pregnancy (which was also during covid lockdown times to be fair)
We were so over prepared at this stage. Second baby guilt begins early...

LavenderSweetPea · 31/12/2023 08:51

@Hankthehonk well my original theme was going to be fairly princess but since we're having a boy we've gone for safari theme instead :)

I was wondering, for those that have decided on a name, have you started referring to baby as that name already? We've picked a name but I still talk about baby by their original nickname (Baby Bub) and I feel like I can't stop and it's going to be hard calling him anything else even when he's here but I can't call him baby bub once he's born!

Cheetocat · 31/12/2023 09:26

@LavenderSweetPea We call him by his name about half the time, it's slowly built up since we picked it.

Happy new year everyone, tomorrow begins baby year!

Hankthehonk · 31/12/2023 09:30

@LavenderSweetPea we did jungle for my daughter! I've just decided on dinosaurs for this baby (a boy) - we still have some green and yellow stuff from her jungle theme that can be repurposed as I found some yellow and green Dino stuff. Could have done jungle again but felt guilty about not giving him his own thing! Which is probably daft as he won't know.

We are sort of decided on a name but only calling him it in a testing the waters sort of way, still feels weird. With our daughter we were 100% set on her name from early on, got a wall transfer with her name while I was still pregnant, but finding it harder to be sure this time!
We had a nickname for her during pregnancy though that we still use sometimes, I think a lot of people do that!

Anyone planning to formula feed? If so, what formula is best?

I’ve been told there is a good chance I won’t be able to breastfeed so prepare some formula in case. Just no clue where to start?

I'm hoping to BF but bought the Kendamil starter pack just in case :)
I've heard good things about this brand - but I would encourage you to do your own research and see what fits your needs!

Mummapenguin20 · 31/12/2023 14:29

I’m planning on using cow&gate

msp2023 · 31/12/2023 14:44

I found my first stretch marks the other day (quite a few!) under my belly - and I'm embarrassed to say I feel quite sad about it :(

I knew it was inevitable and the lotions and potions I've been using was never going to help. I still can't help but feel gutted and grossed out by them 🥲

Not majorly devastated or anything but just feel a bit bleh because it's made me think about my how unrecognisable my postpartum body will be. I'm sure I won't care at all when baby is in my arms though!

I hear you, I got quite sad at 10 weeks with how my breasts had changed so much. Trying not to think about all the changes…having a bit of a wobble today on how much is changing, I think as tonight is such a contrast to my usual crazy NYE

Shrillwaffle · 31/12/2023 17:16

@AllAboardTootToot I’ve prepared for both not sure exactly what I’m going to do yet. My friend who’s a midwife told me not too worry about spending to much or choosing fancy formula because they’re all the same. I went for cow and gate I bought 3 for around £20ish in Costco

DmcinT · 31/12/2023 17:55

Just a quick one, has anyone assembled their next to me cot? I bought a new next to me mattress and just put it all together today but the mattress has a bit of room around it that I’m sure it’s not suppose to have? Width wise it’s against the sides but length wise there is deff an inch to 1.5 of free space, does anyone know if this is normal?

AllAboardTootToot · 31/12/2023 18:26

Thanks @Shrillwaffle @msp2023 @Mummapenguin20

@DmcinT - we have the Chico next to me and there’s no space on ours?

@DmcinT I assembled mine today (it's a snuzpod though) but there's no extra space. Have you got the mattress protector and sheets on the mattress and there's still the space with both of those on?

Sunshineclouds11 · 31/12/2023 19:44

Also going for cow and gate.

babythreeincoming · 31/12/2023 20:01

Cow&Gate here as well. Used it with both my boys and no issues! Not breastfeeding for the first 8 weeks this time and feel no guilt whatsoever ❤️

DmcinT · 31/12/2023 20:16

@AllAboardTootToot @LavenderSweetPea Just realised it’s 83cm and should be 87cm, I’ve reordered the correct one, such a torture🙈 I knew it wasn’t right to have that kind of space. Thanks girls

Sunshineclouds11 · 31/12/2023 20:21

Anyone have experience with slings?
I didn't have one with my first but think it'll come in very handy this time

AllAboardTootToot · 31/12/2023 22:17

@DmcinT least you realised now hun!

@babythreeincoming 100% hun! No judgement here, what’s right for us will be different for someone else. As long as I have a fed and healthy baby that’s all that matters ❤️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/01/2024 08:10

@Sunshineclouds11 not really experienced as I didn't go to a sling library and try loads. But we got the Ergobaby 360 breathable mesh last time and loved it. Worked great for both me and partner, probably used it daily for a year to 18 months. Has a newborn setting from about 7lbs, and can be used face in when they're a baby, face out at 5-6 months onwards when they have head control, then on the back when baby gets really heavy.

Davidsdead01 · 01/01/2024 08:46

Happy New Year - babies come NEXT MONTH, I’m sure there will be a few early appearances this month too! @AllAboardTootToot yes planning to FF after a few days colostrum - used the mamia milk from Aldi with my 1st because is was the cheapest and everyone said how they’re all the same, I’ll likely go with this one again!
Does everyone have their prams sorted now? I got a 2nd hand one and the fabrics for the newborn part smell musty after 3 times washed at 60!! Contemplating trying to sell it and just buy a whole brand new one…

PeeBeee · 01/01/2024 09:18

Happy new year everyone! Our babies are due next month😳😯

Just wondering if anyone has experienced this. Yesterday, as the day went on, I was getting a pain in my right side that went into my back when I coughed so put it down to a pulled muscle. I went to bed last night at 10 and yelped getting into bed, I couldn’t lie on my right side at all without being in excruciating pain. It was constant, any movement I did, even getting up from the loo. I think I probably got about 3 hours sleep in total. Baby is still moving as normal but thinking should I ring EOU to explain this? I think I have just pulled a muscle but it is ridiculously sore!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 01/01/2024 09:29

@Davidsdead01 ah no I'm so sorry, that's so rubbish. Have you tried the nappisan baby wash? We did cloth nappies, and that got all the smells / mustiness out

I’ve recently had a Bugaboo Dragonfly delivered and it’s perfect for a London narrow house, but feels a lot sturdier than the YoYo that I tried.
