Congratulations @New2thisss and @Onethingiwantfor23! I hope you're recovering well and enjoying your babies 💐

Thanks everyone. Baby boy was born at 9:05am yesterday weighing 9lbs 2.5oz (I had gestational diabetes). He had a few problems with his breathing and low muscle tone at birth so I didn't see him properly for the first hour. He was going to Nicu but turned a corner last minute and he's mostly fed and slept and just being perfect. Long may it continue!

Good luck to everyone else xx

Oh I must have missed this! congratulations babe hope you’re doing well.

did they advise you on baby size before he was born? X @Onethingiwantfor23

Onethingiwantfor23 · 11/10/2023 09:02

@NSx yes, I had growth scans booked from 28 weeks because I'm 40. He was on the bigger side then and continued to grow rapidly at the next 2 scans. I had a negative GTT at 28 weeks but the Consultant wasn't convinced I didn't have it at my 32 week scan so, I did 5 days of monitoring which confirmed I had GD. At my 36 week scan they said he was 8lbs 10oz and said he'd be big when I have him at 38 weeks. Although he's the weight he is, he actually doesn't look his size. I'm relieved tbh coz I was expecting a whopper!

NSx · 11/10/2023 10:09

@Onethingiwantfor23 ahh ok, I’m glad it all worked out babe 🤍🤍🤍 I’m sure he is absolutely perfect.
the reason I’m asking is because I had a scan at 37w due to positioning and they told me they estimated the baby to be 7lb2oz, which now has me terrified that the baby will be huge (I am very petite myself) … I’m 38w today, so still have another couple weeks left potentially🥹

Congratulations all xx

Esl17 · 11/10/2023 10:33

@NSx ahh glad it’s going better, are you going to take some syringes to the hospital? I have no idea how much to take!

40+4 today and feeling a bit fed up but am booked in for induction Sunday keep reminding myself this time next week I’ll have a baby! Xx

NSx · 11/10/2023 10:41

@Esl17 yes it is definitely a bit better, I am going to definitely take some to the hospital in a bag with an ice block thing to keep frozen, hopefully my ward will have a freezer to store.
I won’t take too many Incase they get wasted, thinking maybe my partner can go home and get more if necessary…

ohh not long now at all. How are u feeling about being induced ? X

Just catching up on this, the days just fly with a newborn and a 4 year old! Hope everyone is ok.

@katherine123x hope you are doing ok too!
@Sagittarius25 @thecatsthecats it is lovely to have your body back, I found myself looking at my belly just proud that it housed a human once again. No pressure to look any other way than it is - a bit of self love really helps your mood. Sleeping on my back again is also glorious!
@Summer022 completely agree - hope baby boy is doing well now and you are recovering ok!
@New2thisss @Onethingiwantfor23 congratulations, hope both of you are ok!

So I am now 2.5 weeks pp and unfortunately had to go back to docs yesterday as I am struggling with constipation, fissures etc. TMI, but I will always be honest in case someone else is struggling too Flowers

peonygirl · 11/10/2023 12:06

Congratulations to all new mamas!

I ended up in a hospital due to high BP and I am utterly exhausted. Ladies playing TV, chatting on the phone, nurses coming in at 3am like its 3pm. I had no sleep. I want to go home but am kept till afternoon at least. I don't think I can stand another night without headphones or ear plugs. I was kept in yesterday after 6h of tests, bloods, checks, doctors...but came in from work so I don't have anything with me. I am trying to be patient but it's wearing me down. Baby is well, no issues there just me, trying to keep him in for another week to give him optimal chances.

PrimarilyParented · 11/10/2023 12:17

@NSx i wouldn’t be too worried, I’m also petite and my DS was estimated at 7lb 4oz at my 35 week growth scan. He arrived 37+1 weight 8lb 3oz (so big for gestational age but not enormous for a newborn). So if you were measuring 7lb2oz at 37 weeks then you’re definitely within normal centiles - according to my growth chart pretty much bang on the 50th centile at that weight.

Esl17 · 11/10/2023 12:30

@NSx actually feeling quite positive about it now I have a date! There’s still a few days for me to go spontaneously aswell I guess but not holding out much hope! Part of the control freak in me likes the idea of going in at a particular time and not waiting at home/not knowing when the right time to head into hospital is.

yeah this is a good idea I think I’ll only take 3 maybe 4 syringes I have heard stories about them getting lost in hospitals before too!

doeandfawn · 11/10/2023 14:56

It’s our wedding anniversary today (37+2) and trying to take it easy on myself that I can’t do normal date day activities! We’ve finally (nearly) finished our nursery; anyone already with their babies got recommendations for things to keep in our bedroom postpartum that we might have forgotten? ELCS so will be a bit bed bound for a few days.

ttcttc · 11/10/2023 15:18

Managed to get a tiny bit of colostrum earlier. Going to have another go later after a bath and when boyfriend goes to work... he was a bit squeamish shall we say 😂

Going to have to master the expressing and syringing without loosing any I think 🙈

katherine123x · 11/10/2023 16:09

@doeandfawn handheld fan
Night sweats are a real thing over here!!
Breast pads to replace during the night
Big bottle of water
Extra long phone charger

thecatsthecats · 11/10/2023 17:20

@Esl17 I found a source that said anything between 5-40ml.

@doeandfawn our antenatal classes recommended a nightlight so you don't overstimulate the baby putting on too much light to do night feeds if you can avoid it. Plus breastfeeding snacks.

@ttcttc I use the cup to scoop it directly off the nipple, then syringe from the cup when all done. Can't be bothered syringing each drop directly off! Have switched to pouring the cup into a milk bag now every 24h rather than using a syringe anyway.

ttcttc · 11/10/2023 17:58

@thecatsthecats I'm gonna sound a bit daft here I think but what cup? Lol

thecatsthecats · 11/10/2023 18:14

Ha, I realised after I posted that that wouldn't have come with every pack! We got handed out kits in antenatal class, syringes plus a little 50ml plastic cup, nothing fancy. I just use it to skim off each drop.

Oh, and another piece of non-standard equipment that helps is my cat - turns out his howling sets off my letdown, lol.

Ah yeah no cup for me. Will use a spoon and shot glass 🥴

Send the cat round please 😂

NSx · 11/10/2023 20:20

@PrimarilyParented oh that is reassuring. So I am on the 50th centile on my chart too, for measuring but in Scotland they don’t put weights on there. I just assumed because newborn clothes in next say upto 7lb 8oz that anything bigger is considered big!?
@Esl17 are all your syringes 1ml? I don’t think I will breastfeed, so I’m planning on taking a few more and also get my partner to bring more with me, so baby gets a good amount when they first arrive.
I too would quite like to know when it will all start rather than one day just appearing 😂😂

@ttcttc i also use a cup, I work in a doctors surgery so steal the ones for the urine samples 😂😂😂 as they are sterile lol! Can also use the one that comes with a hand pump, I have a medela one.

@thecatsthecats how do you get so much that you’re filling bags. I get literally 4ml max a sitting, and that is an effort lol

OP posts:
ttcttc · 11/10/2023 20:58

@NSx 4ml sounds fab. I've managed 0.3ml 😂

cruciverbalista · 11/10/2023 21:13

@peonygirl Hope you are OK and made it back home.
Congrats to the new mamas! I'm 3 days overdue now and so tired.

thecatsthecats · 11/10/2023 21:18

@NSx oh, I get not like a bagful!

I just used up the first 10 in the first week, ordered 20 more thinking that was another two weeks. Then the supply really kicked in, and suddenly the next 20 were gone, so I just decided that 25ml over 24h made more sense to put in the bags I already had rather than faff around doing 10-12 labelled syringes a day.

I'm quite relieved tbh, because I have massive boobs, and I read that it's more usual to have a worse supply than a good one from big boobs.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 12/10/2023 07:26

Any endometriosis mamas in the thread? I’ve woken up with some very mild back pain and cramping but think it’s probably just all the pineapple juice 😂 because this feels very very mild to me. But then second guessing myself because I also know years of untreated endo have made my pain tolerance weirdly high so I don’t process pain like a lot of people. Was it super mild at the very beginning for anyone else? (I am probably just wanting to find labour where there is none yet but still, made me curious!)
