Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
ForeverAndEvers · 12/10/2023 08:04

Anyone else got ill before giving birth? Woken up with a throat that feels like razor blades (but weirdly no other symptoms) and now worried I'm going to be ill to give birth. Have a planned c section so feel like I have a deadline to get well.

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween don't have endometriosis so this probably isn't hugely helpful but I've been having cramps every morning that just vanish through the day. Worth monitoring them to see if they build as with my first it did just start with fairly mild cramps but then my waters broke and it ramped up v quickly.

LWestYorks · 12/10/2023 08:17

Morning ladies! Congratulations to everyone who’s had their little ones 🥰

Anyone got night sweats after having baby? Mine are so bad!!

katherine123x · 12/10/2023 09:22

@LWestYorks hi lovely it's meeee!

Yes!! I'm mentioning to HV today actually xx

Koalawhala · 12/10/2023 09:26

@ForeverAndEvers my husbands had covid this last week and I was really worried about getting it but seem to be ok so far. When is your section booked for? I hope you recover quickly.

@thecatsthecats and @doeandfawn the Gro light is really good- you screw it into your bedside lamp and it gives the option of having a super low light when you turn it on.

@peonygirl hope you're doing ok and can go home soon

peonygirl · 12/10/2023 10:21

@cruciverbalista @Koalawhala Thank you, yes I am home now. I was finally discharged late last night but need to go back for more checks tomorrow. It's such a battle just before the section, I just want to be left alone to prepare in peace. All I can say - if you are booked in for induction, take noise cancelling earphones with you!! There's so much noise on the wards that's crazy - or at least I suffer from too much noise exposure. Those of you with toddlers are probably way better with the tolerance than me :)

@thecatsthecats thank you for a reminder we do the best we can. I still didn't manage to collect any colostrum and midwives said not to stress too much. It is sort of important for my baby because I am having GD and if baby struggles with sugars, colostrum is helping with that. But if it can't be done, it can't be done.

Those suffering with night sweats - they are normal, you might also notice you smell differently. I was told all this is normal while hormones regulate after the delivery.

How's everyone coping without sleep? I really worry because I am terrible - I didn't sleep at all in the hospital for one night and I was miserable. How will this go with the baby, I wonder.

AlongcameLainey · 12/10/2023 10:29

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween yes I have endo.

my first labour the contractions were definitley very mild to start with which I thought were very similar to the early period cramps I was used to.

They did gear up soon enough though 😊

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 12/10/2023 10:33

@AlongcameLainey thank you! It’s so hard to find info on endo sufferers in pregnancy so I feel like I’m often just guessing. Cramps have passed now sadly so assuming it was just my body practicing. After years of chronic pain it feels so weird to be looking forward to being in discomfort 😂😂

AlongcameLainey · 12/10/2023 10:37

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween I agree. With my first pregnancy it was a nightmare trying to find information on it all. The good news is after I had my first baby my periods were so much better. The consultant said it was because the pregnancy stretched everything out it helped clear some of the endo. It took around 12 months for them to return to how they were pre pregnancy!

VanillaOat · 12/10/2023 12:27

My hind waters have gone as confirmed by MAU. They want to induce me tomorrow now and I’m so scared, I really didn’t want an induction, so I just feel super deflated: Any advice from anybody who has had one? Xxx

Sagittarius25 · 12/10/2023 13:00

@VanillaOat no advice of having one, but try and get as much oxytocin flowing now before your induction and keep it going as much as you can during induction to support your body along. Do all nice things that make you feel good and happy. Try to remain relaxed and excited to meet your baby and keep the fear away (easier said than done I know) good luck!

peonygirl · 12/10/2023 13:14

@VanillaOat I read a lot of really positive stories about inductions. Unless you try one you sadly don't know how your body will respond but with waters breaking on their own it seems your body is ready. As was said by Sagittarius25, keep positive and don't go into it with too much fear because it is working against you. You want to flood your body with oxytocin to speed things up. I know it is easier said than done - this comes from a person who's miserable in hospitals and anxious to the boot. Not much oxytocin flooding my body when I am there but I still try to stay calm and in control. If you don't want something, you can say no to it, incl. induction. You just risk infection but hey, they can give you antibiotics if you want to delay induction date and wait to see if your body will go into labor on its own. I am keeping fingers crossed all goes well!

LWestYorks · 12/10/2023 13:51

Anyone who’s already given birth and on formula can I message you pleaseeee? Just want to speak to others who have babies similar age and what they are taking x

ForeverAndEvers · 12/10/2023 14:07

@Koalawhala thank you 😊. I have 5 days so I do have time to recover. Just not ideally what I'd have wanted in the run up! Hope you manage to stay covid free and your husband recovers soon.

Smiffette · 12/10/2023 15:28

I've got 5 days until DD been on another big walk today, managed 12,000 steps yesterday and the same today! Listening to music or podcasts definitely helps!

Keep think he's moved down a bit but not sure.... now about to enter the weekend when childcare gets tricky so part of me is now wanting him to hold on again until next week! 🙈

Maybe he will be a DD baby!

Hopefulx · 13/10/2023 08:16

Congratulations on all the new mamas 🩷💙

Anyone else struggling to sleep? Was awake 1-5am last night..due in 3 days (Monday) but I am so ready for her to be here now!

Koalawhala · 13/10/2023 08:41

@Hopefulx yep me. I'm awake at a similar time to you. I was told to bounce on the yoga ball for a bit to help your body relax/reset. I also have a snack as I don't have much appetite in the evenings and I think I'm hungry. All seems to help but doesn't send me instantly back to sleep as my mind gets busy thinking of things to do/worry about
Feeling tired today 😴

Smiffette · 13/10/2023 08:46

@Koalawhala @Hopefulx same here, up until a few weeks ago sleep wasn't too bad. Now I'm waking 3-4 times for the loo and waking at 5 not able to get back to sleep. It's so disrupted and uncomfortable.

Due in 4 days, Tuesday, at least once baby boy is here I will be able to sleep comfortably again, I much prefer sleeping on my back and really miss it when pregnant.

Sagittarius25 · 13/10/2023 08:48

Joining the rubbish sleep club!

Every night is a lottery at the moment. Some nights I feel like I'm waking every hour, others I will be awake for a couple hours at a time. I'm often kicking DH to the spare room at some point in the night so I have the extra space to get comfy 😂 what helps me get back to sleep is reminding myself now I'm on mat leave it doesn't matter if I don't do much the next day because of being tired!

doeandfawn · 13/10/2023 09:22

Sleep is a nightmare here too! I’m getting cumulatively between 3-5 hours sleep a night but that’s with many hours long wakeful periods in between. Keep trying to nap through the day but it’s not happening! ELCS in 10 days, homestretch nearly in sight.

cruciverbalista · 13/10/2023 11:26

Been in hospital since about 6:30 last night. Still in latent labor (2cm) and haven't been put in a private room. They were about to let me go home for a bit when realized I was still bleeding from the cervical exam and changed their minds. We are tired!

thecatsthecats · 13/10/2023 12:32

Another one in the rubbish sleep club. Yesterday was my last day at work, and I only woke up at 11 today, all groggy from the multiple wakings, grr.

I'm a front sleeper, so I'm ok-ish on my side, but I miss being able to just lie on my back a few minutes, and lie PROPERLY on my front. Plus my hands hurt because I keep sleeping on them weirdly.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 13/10/2023 12:59

Same here-slept well all pregnancy but now I’m up every hour for peeing and/or acid reflux and often awake for an hour or two from 4/5am. Trying to see it as my body getting me rehearsed for when baby’s here! Getting a sweep on Monday which is my due date if they’re not here before. Have had early period like cramping and back ache every morning that then vanishes and my pelvis is ACHING so I’m hoping I’m not far off!

peonygirl · 13/10/2023 14:36

Another one for the rubbish sleep club - I am also a front sleeper and my hands also hurt @thecatsthecats, I think I just cushion the upper body with my arms and hands get caught in between. Not sure if this makes sense but I try to be as comfortable as possible these days. Lots of toilet breaks for me too.

I had another BP test today, still borderline but they let me go home. The little one passed all his tests (as always :)). I am getting really tired every day, I feel my body is at the end of this journey so next 4 days it is bed rest for me. Little one is still positioned head down but I don't think he's ready to come yet - I will kick him out to help my body recover. I need to go back on Monday for more tests and just waiting for consultant's call to get instructions for the c-section. As worried as I am about it, I am also excited and happy to get the baby and to get my body back.

thecatsthecats · 14/10/2023 00:23

No, that makes total sense, try as I might to stop thm, my hands sneak up under my face in the night and get bent and squished. I have no idea how I had my hands as I slept before, but I managed not to mutilate them.

I struggled through a grand total of one chore today - putting together the pram. Incredible that I have been happily been solely responsible for buying and maintaining my own cars for the past decade, yet a big lump of non-mechanical plastic has me baffled.

NSx · 14/10/2023 11:42

another one here with the rubbish sleep, feels like I’m up every hour to pee or to turn like a rotisserie chicken 🫠 …

has anyone else got a touch of carpel tunnel in their hands? my hands can be quite stiff at times and I get tingling/numbness on my finger tips. I’ve been reassured by the doctors in my work and my midwife that it’s absolutely normal and fine, but it’s very annoying! 😅

my BP has also crept up a bit lately too 🙃
