Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

@ttcttc sending a hug, dear. It will get better, for all of us. I dread nights, my boy is like an owl, and won't sleep a wink from around 11pm till 4.30am. I on the other hand find it's freezing at night, am underslept, and not in the mood for hours of pacing up and down the flat in an effort to get him to sleep. I am testing the use of a sling now - let's hope it helps.

I am learning how not to be too tough on myself.

Omg I woke up at one night and was shuddering with the cold. Turned the heating up and then was lathered I had to take my top off ( a real treat 😳) and partner said her was soaked. I don't like the night wakes but hopefully we will crack it xx

Koalawhala · 02/11/2023 07:24

@ttcttc oh bless you, you have a lot going on. It will get better for you both.

Not much night sleeping here either and doesn’t like to be put down. After not sleeping at all the first couple of nights we’re now co sleeping and getting a bit more sleep. Always worry about her in the bed but I did it with my other two and it seemed to work best for us in these early days

xLMCx · 02/11/2023 07:28

@NSx wishing you all of the luck for you and little one today 🩵🩷🤞🏻

I have been losing my mucus plug since last night and been having light period cramps so hopefully this is the start of something for me too 🤞🏻

Koalawhala · 02/11/2023 07:35

Good luck @NSx amd @xLMCx i hope you get to meet your babies very soon!

@peonygirl how are you finding wearing a sling with the c section wound? I have a stretchy wrap but haven’t tried using it yet. I’m still a bit uncomfortable

Summer022 · 02/11/2023 10:11

Hi ladies, hope you’re all doing ok. Baby boy is now nearly 5 weeks old, the emotions are running high here too. I mentioned a couple of threads back they had seen what they thought was a cyst on baby’s kidney during a growth scan. After many ultrasound scans they have concluded he’s got a distended pelvic kidney (basically the left kidney is swollen with fluid and the kidney is in the pelvis, never went up to it’s usual place while forming in the womb). We’re unsure what this means for him but I know that surgery is a potential if there’s a blockage causing the urine to gather in the kidney. He’s so well in himself though, you wouldn’t even know anything was wrong! I just feel so down about it, the thought of my tiny baby possibly needing surgery to fix or worse case remove the kidney is just awful. Sooo many emotions!

Smiffette · 02/11/2023 13:20

Hi all, checking in as the last 2 weeks have gone so quickly but baby boy is doing great and I'm starting to feel more human.

Definitely felt more emotional for longer this time round than I did with my first. I think partly to do with the events after birth. The birth itself was good, however a couple of hours after i fainted. Lots of blood loss (just under 2 litres) retained placenta and ended up in theatre under a GA. I think it took a while to sink in the trauma of it all.

Hope all those still waiting in babies to arrive don't have too much longer to go. these last few days are tough

katherine123x · 02/11/2023 13:50

Any ladies got any tips on dealing with nighttime anxiety? .. I know it's normal but it's REAL!

OrionNebula · 02/11/2023 16:27

Hi everyone, congrats to all new arrivals. My little girl is 1 month old today, can't believe it! Emotions have been up and down here too, haven't had prolonged low mood or anxiety but sort of have brief pockets of it if that makes sense? I'm definitely better if I can get out and about a bit but think I have done too much too soon. I'm struggling now with a cough I can't shake off and on second lot of antibiotics. Trying to get the balance right between keeping reasonably active for my mood and also resting which is what my body needs! Baby is still feeding really well although she's awake a lot more now and doesn't like to be put down much when she is awake. I've been afraid to use the sling so far because of recovery of my wound but think I'll have to get it out soon so I can get more done when she's awake.

Did anyone else have an episiotomy? Wondered how healing was going for others?

Yes I did only 5 days ago. I think mine is healing well, midwife said so the other day. Think my stitches have just dissolved away now but I don't really need to take pain killers any more, but am taking anti inflammatory to keep swelling down.

Midwife expressed how good it is to air dry the wound after showering but I don't want to/don't have time to lay about with my bits out 😂 so I take a little hand fan into bathroom and fan the area dry after my shower so it doesn't stay damp which can hinder healing

Esl17 · 02/11/2023 19:07

@Sagittarius25 fan is such a good idea! I used hairdryer on the cold setting! My stitches came undone and got infected I had to have a course of antibiotics - finally starting to feel better now almost 3 weeks in after finishing them. So hard to get air to the area like you say, especially when you are having to wear a pad for bleeding! It looks surprisingly small and quite neat though - things still look ok down there haha. Was yours diagonal too?

Sagittarius25 · 02/11/2023 19:18

@Esl17 yes it's so hard to keep dry and air etc when wearing the pad too! Yes I had a look this morning and it's very neat and diagonal. I'm surprised how well it's healing and so quickly. Although NCT did say it will heal quite quickly as that whole body area has a lot of blood flow. Glad yours has settled now.

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 02/11/2023 20:00

@Sagittarius25 @ES1986 had mine 5 days ago too-haven’t brought up the courage to look yet but have been using my peri bottle and spritz for bits religiously. Have a quite uncomfortable large hard swollen bit near the wound but midwife hasn’t looked and didn’t seem concerned when I told her, just said to keep an eye on it and if the pain gets worse or it gets pus or starts to smell go to triage. Haven’t been air drying but going to start!

cruciverbalista · 02/11/2023 21:14

@Summer022 this sounds really scary, I'm glad they are pinpointing the issue and putting resources toward figuring out what to do, and great to hear your son is thriving. Hope you have lots of support with this early challenge and sounds like he's in good hands.
@Smiffette wow how terrifying! Hope you are able to process your experience and again glad your son is doing well.
@OrionNebula hear you on the slow recovery. I'm finally starting to feel on the up and up, cutting back on the painkillers, but I've barely tried going for walks this past week as stamina so low. However I've been weightlifting a 9+lb baby constantly, so at least I'm getting some kind of workout!

We finally tried our boy on bottle tonight after supplemental syringe feeding for a couple weeks. I'm primarily BFing but husband takes on one or two in the evening so I can rest. The slow flow is still too fast for him, he immediately peed and puked on everything! Guess there's a learning curve for it all. I already feel like my baba is growing up and doesn't need me anymore... so maybe add one more to the list of overly emotional new mums 😂

Esl17 · 02/11/2023 21:22

@FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween mine felt like this too and still does feel a bit hard almost 3 weeks on but is finally healing nicely now. Midwife checked mine at 5 day appt and sent me to triage to get antibiotics. I was using spritz for bits originally too but when I went to triage they told me to avoid and said it was the worst thing to do! They also said to sit on a towel on my bed with my legs wide open for 10 mins twice per day to get some air to it. Since I’ve been getting more air to it it feels so much better but this is alot easier to do now I’m almost 3 weeks pp and bleeding a lot less - can get away with a thin liner atm rather than a thick maternity pad. If I was you I would pop into triage and just say the community midwife sent you to get checked- better to have someone look at it to be sure as I had a really hard lump like you and my stitches had come undone! It’s not the nicest as you’re fed up with people having a look after giving birth but if there is an infection you want to catch it early. Midwife in triage said it’s v common and they see infections all the time as it’s an area which doesn’t get much air.

Ss32 · 02/11/2023 21:31

Ladies who are in the early days of bfing and struggling with sore nipples - my midwife suggested these silver nipple cups which I’d never heard of and sounded really weird. I tried them along with nipple balm and they were like magic! I don’t know if it’s because they stop your clothes rubbing on your nipples and further irritating them but they helped me massively! I’d definitely recommend!

My baby is one month old tomorrow! My section wound is still sore but I think that’s from being too active with baby and a 2 year old. Baby is now moving into proper awake and asleep cycles and starting to fight her naps! So far, we are sleeping ok but, as she’s my second, I know that can be short lived so just enjoying it while it lasts!

Sagittarius25 · 03/11/2023 19:26

Anyone else's shoulders and upper back in absolute pieces? My muscles are so sore.

I know it's from constant hunching when feeding and just generally having the weight of the baby in front of my body when holding, rocking, soothing etc.

Already use pillows where I can to support baby when feeding to help but trying to keep him in a semi upright position (bottle feeding) is a struggle.

Onethingiwantfor23 · 03/11/2023 20:20

Any suggestions for wind? My little dude is 3.5 weeks now and is waking up from sleep screaming and tensed. I'm breastfeeding and this has only developed in the last few days. Breaks my heart to see him in pain 😢

BeaKind · 03/11/2023 20:34

@Onethingiwantfor23 our little girl was like this last week. We started on Infacol but wasn’t until we went with 2 droppers full that it started making a difference. She’s in much less pain now and burps are coming up much easier. I’ve heard mixed reviews about Infacol but it does seem to be working for us.

So horrible seeing them in pain 😢

kingfisher168 · 03/11/2023 21:05

@Onethingiwantfor23 I started winding after each breast and found the sitting down on your lap and doing circling motions the best. It has made a massive difference!

xLMCx · 03/11/2023 23:26

Felicity made her entrance this evening at 20.39. She's absolutely perfect and came much quicker than expected! Almost didn't make it to the hospital 🩷

cruciverbalista · 04/11/2023 06:05

Congrats @xLMCx what a cute name too💕

katherine123x · 04/11/2023 09:08

@BeaKind @Onethingiwantfor23

Infacol used here too and would recommend x

FirstTimeMamaAtHalloween · 04/11/2023 09:20

@Esl17 thank you, at the maternity day unit now to have it looked at - better safe than sorry! Annoying about spritz for bits, I only used it because it’s supposed to be sutures safe!
