Hi! Just had a BFP after a MC at 8 weeks last year, and am looking for folks to breathe through the next few weeks with. I am in an age bracket where MC risk is high and I’m trying not to get ahead of myself!

@Dani46 I called them and they said they would book me in for either 5 or 6 weeks. I was worried I wouldn’t see anything this early. Also an abdominal not internal scan which I was surprised. They are going to give me another appointment for next week. They said they wouldn’t give anything like progesterone etc. to take as I don’t have any bleeding. 🤷🏻‍♀️

I’ve realised how bad at waiting I am. They were really nice though they said to just be positive.

Dani46 · 12/10/2023 17:27

@Hollie1802 yeh I just called mine up and mentioned I had a previous loss and they are seeing me from 6 weeks. It’s definitely worth a try! X

Dani46 · 12/10/2023 17:29

@G7X I feel super impatient right now 😂
I know I shouldn’t have to but when they said I had to be 6 weeks I kind of pushed it back by 3 days, but I suppose I can’t say for certain right now anyway how far along I am properly until I’ve been scanned?
I’ve got a week off next week, so going to call them again on either Monday/Tuesday and ask for the blood test. I’ve got a private scan booked in for the Friday too. X

@hellofromsutton I’m so sorry for your losses. Hoping this pregnancy is successful!

I am in a similar dilemma after a pregnancy loss regarding scans. I decided not to do any private early scans this time and was just going to wait until the 12 week scan. But my symptoms have been so up and down and cramping has been quite painful that I contacted the GP today to see if I can get an EPU referral for an early scan.

I feel like my pregnancy isn’t viable I’d like to know sooner rather than later. This is for practical reasons to do with work/ training courses but also by 12 weeks I’ll be completely invested in another child as a reality.

I had a private 8 week scan both with my DD and for the pregnancy that MC’d. My DD was dancing around in there and dates tallied up with my calculations, but the second time they dated it at 6 weeks, when I had 8 weeks since my LMP. I had my dates right, so it might have been an indicator that it wasn’t growing at a normal rate. Sadly I lost that pregnancy a few weeks later. It was harder to process having seen a heartbeat, with the photo the fridge and gone through all that. Which is what put me off an early scan again.

But EPU might evaluate a scan more closely and flag up any indicators that something is up? I am really not sure which way to go. Either way, the uncertainty is painful!

I phoned the EPU last week when I found out and they told me to phone back at 6 weeks so I did today and I got told on the phone they don't offer reassurance scans anymore after one MC as there isn't enough evidence to show a second MC will happen.
They said this has just come into play in the last two weeks.
I live in Scotland so might be different for everyone.
I was actually really quite annoyed tbh.
We have a private scan booked for next Wednesday where I will be one day away from the 7 weeks.
I am feeling quite anxious/worried as it's coming up to the time my last MC happened but I am trying to be super positive xx

Jak803 · 12/10/2023 18:57

@BrwnX that’s so annoying about the reassurance scans, damn it. Oh well, I guess it’s 12 weeks for me then!

BrwnX · 12/10/2023 18:59

I would still give them a call! @Jak803 I think it's so bad they have stopped it x

cosymama2020 · 12/10/2023 19:37

@Jak803 @BrwnX I rang my local EPU today without a referral and they’ve booked me in for a scan next week, definitely worth a try!

BrwnX · 12/10/2023 19:38

@Jak803 that's good! Do you live in Scotland? Xx

HappyValleyFan1 · 12/10/2023 19:39

@hellofromsutton congratulations on your BFP. Similar in that I've had 3 MC between 2 successful pregnancies. With DC1 I just had the 12 and 20 week scans and anxiety was 0 but I was obviously naive and hadn't been through recurrent MC at that point. Similar to you when pregnancy with DC2 I was so anxious and lived scan to scan, it really wasn't a great pregnancy for constant worry. I had scans every 2 weeks from 4 weeks as I was under the recurrent MC clinic.

This time I think I feel in a better place mentally and I've had 1 scan (again NHS recurrent MC clinic) at 5 weeks and have a repeat next week when I'll be 7 weeks but I'm hoping they don't want to see me again afterwards and I can be midwife led this time as scanxiety really is a thing. So in answer to your question I think it depends on where you are mentally IYKWIM 😃

Jak803 · 12/10/2023 23:41

@cosymama2020 that’s good news! It never occurred to me to go to them directly. That’s a great shout, thank you.

@BrwnX I’m in south of England!

Just over 6 weeks here - and am immunesuppressed and qualify for a winter flu jab.
the nurse has said it’s fine in early pregnancy and booked me in for next week.
mum just not sure how comfortable I feel about it. Anyone else had/having their done?

cosymama2020 · 13/10/2023 13:16

@Senso21 I had my flu jab and no issues. Had a flu jab when pregnant with my first child and no issues either. I had an awful cold and chest infection a fortnight ago and couldn’t medicate properly due to pregnancy and there is no way in satan’s fiery hell will I have the flu and have to get better with just paracetamol 😂

mum2boys1504 · 13/10/2023 13:44

Me ! I'm currently around 5 weeks.. June 15th due date :)

mum2boys1504 · 13/10/2023 13:46

Me too ! I'm 35 have a 11 year old and 4 year old ..onto third child ! Crazy 🤪

Dani46 · 13/10/2023 15:58

Getting super frustrated with epu. I was literally praising them when I found out.
Currently stressed out because it it all. I was originally told at 6 weeks they would just scan me because of my last loss. Then to be told I need bloods doing and then they will, to be told todah when I call to try and book in I need 2 blood tests! One on Monday and one Wednesday 😭 I’m so scared I’ve had another mmc I can’t stop overthinking it all.
Ive got a private scan next Friday, if I could find somewhere that would do an internal scan before then I would book before then.

Dani46 · 13/10/2023 15:58

Sorry too, that probably makes next to no sense.

Anyone else here dealing with obesity while pregnant? I am. It would be nice to know somebody else who is in the same boat...

@RaisingCornishWildlings very sorry for your loss, I hope you can take the time and the help needed to heal 💛

Just catching up on messages, I'm obese during this pregnancy, had not lost my baby weight from last baby.

itsmschanandlerbong · 14/10/2023 12:25

Hello, can I join please. Got our positive test 2 weeks after our sibling round of IVF 🥰 currently 5+5, have booked a private scan for next Sunday. When did everyone's symptoms start? I've been feeling nauseous and tiredness but not sure if it's too early to be feeling anything?

MsNeis · 14/10/2023 14:59

@cosymama2020 Yes, I lost weight too in my first pregnancy and I'm hoping this time it will be the same! I hope we both can do it 💪

@Spottybutterfly Same here: I was just starting to loose weight this summer, after loosing some during my first pregnancy but then regaining it again in the last couple of years. Sorry if this is too personal but, how do you approach it? Will you try actively to loose weight? Or just be mindful of eating well and/or exercising without thinking numbers on the scale? (The latter would be my preferred option, but I get anxious).

@Senso21 I also had a flu jab with my first pregnancy and I don't remember it being an issue if it was in early or latter pregnancy (at least, nobody told me anything about it).

I've been having trouble sleeping at night, mainly because I wake up 5 o 6 times (that I recall!) to empty my bladder 🙄 Also I'm having such strange dreams! Busy and anxious dreams! But then I don't remember them...

Congratulations! 💐
My symptoms started around 5 weeks too. I think there are people who start noticing things from the beginning, and people who don't notice symptoms until later.

Agathapoirot · 14/10/2023 15:34

Only 4 weeks today, but booked a scan for 3 weeks tomorrow at just over 7 weeks. Helping to know that if all goes well I’ve got it booked in! Only symptom is insomnia so far 🤞🏼

Hope everyone is going well!

I had my flu jab at 4 weeks pregnant, the doctor said it was fine. I'm scared of needles so didn't want the stress of going back but I think if I was fine with needles I would wait untill after 12 weeks.
