Hi @CharXo I had my 20 week scan last Friday expecting it to be a girl and was told it was a boy. Sonographer didn’t seem too sure though. I’ve got my head round it now. My husbands brothers have had loads of girls so that’s why we assumed it was a girl. Hope you can get excited about a boy soon x

CharXo · 26/09/2023 20:22

Thank you @CheeseAndCrackersx & @Musicalitymum .. I feel a lot better today & I really don’t want to come across as ungrateful because I am extremely grateful & blessed to be pregnant. We have 2 boys already and this is our last baby so we were just hoping for a girl. Both the boys were hoping for a sister too so I think it was just a bit of shock, especially as I feel so different this time around!

I have a new question to throw out there.. has anyone had or opting for an elective C section? My previous births were vaginal births however for personal reasons I’m considering an elective section but would like to speak to other people who have had them or are also considering.

Ps, love to you all on this journey. You are all so kind and it’s so nice to read a thread that is filled with positivity x

Mummapenguin20 · 26/09/2023 20:48

@CharXo im seriously debating a elective x

CharXo · 26/09/2023 20:59

@Mummapenguin20 will it be your first one? Or have you had one previously?

Kilminchy123 · 26/09/2023 21:04

Hi guys can I join?? Due 29/02 😮
have a little boy who will be 26 months come February. Got a gender scan last week and told I’m having a little girl,
really bad anxiety and guilt for my little man 😢 any parents here that have gone from 1-2.. so worried for how he will adjust xx

Sunshineclouds11 · 26/09/2023 21:08

@CharXo also considering an elective!
I feel stupid asking for one though 🙈

undercoverhero74 · 26/09/2023 21:10

@User0224 it feels like a life time away!!

I have been feeling her on and off for the past week. Sometimes it's really obvious other times I'm unsure if I just have wind 🤦🏼‍♀️

How about you? Have you been feeling much?

Our due date must be quite close together? I'm due on the 26th.

CharXo · 26/09/2023 21:16

@Sunshineclouds11 oh no why do you feel stupid asking?

Aah I’m the 27th! Is this your first? I’ve been feeling similar, a couple of more distinct movements in the last 48 hours but nothing regular yet.

@CharXo im torn between an elective and a vaginal birth. My first vaginal birth was so traumatic, the recovery took about 9 months so very tempted. But then the next day I’ll wake up and think nah, maybe I should try again and see if I can have that magical vaginal experience that people I know have been lucky enough to have! No idea when I’ll feel confident to make a decision 😬 where’s your head at?

PeeBeee · 27/09/2023 10:49

@CharXo strongly considering elective (already mentioned to consultant at 16w appointment)

I had a failed induction back in April 22. I was 11 hours in labour on that god awful drip and hadnt even went 1cm. When they examined me and told me that and that baby was back to back and was the reasons why my back was in agony, I freaked out and told them to take it the drip off and that i wanted a ccecstion. It took ages for them to actually take it off and accept thats what i wanted. They kept saying it was too early yet and i said you are going to keep me on this drip another 24+ hours and it will turn into an emergency c section as my body wasnt ready (induced me at 39 weeks due to a big baby🙃) they said you dont know that and I was like I bloody do, take it off now!! They also tried putting a clip on baby as she kept kicking the heart rate montior off my belly and i burst out crying and told her to stop. She was up there so long and couldnt get it on babies head. I didnt realise how much the failed induction had traumatised me until i went for the 6 week scan with this baby and it was internal, it all came flashing back so I think for my own well being an elective is the way to go. X

Apologies for the typos!

I don't know!
Obv know within rights but I'm such low risk.
First birth was ok, forceps, episiotomy so compared to others ok.
Feel like I'd just get talked straight out of it.

CharXo · 27/09/2023 12:58

Thank you all for your replies! It’s interesting that a lot of us are considering it! I did also mention it to my midwife at my 16 week appointment, who tried to steer me away from the idea.. however she did tell me to speak to the consultant so that’s what I did on Monday. She confirmed we are all quite within our rights these days to request one. Nobody should be made to feel silly tho! We all have our own reasons.

@PeeBeee did you end up having an emergency c section? Must have been so stressful for you 😔

I think I’m leaning more towards the elective to be honest. The consultant gave me lots of information to read through so I fully understand the risks (but there are still lots of risks to have a vaginal birth imo). I’m going back to see her at 28weeks to confirm my decision and then I think she will book it from there.

anony1111 · 27/09/2023 13:11

@Kilminchy123 congratulations 🥰 I am due my second on 26/02. My little boy (or not so little now) will be 6 when baby is born. I am also feeling very anxious and lots of guilt for my boy too 😔
He keeps asking questions about when baby is born and obviously I keep reassuring him that I will have lots of time for him still but I'm worried how I am going to go from 1 to 2.
I am a single mum and unfortunately that's going to be the case too when baby is born.

I keep telling myself everything will work out 🙈

Sorry I don't have any positive words but just wanted to let you know that your not alone in feeling guilty and anxious x

Kilminchy123 · 27/09/2023 13:21

@anony1111 awhh congratulations to you too! it’s so hard but that is actually so reassuring for me as I feel if I left it longer and spent more time with just my son surely I wouldn’t feel guilt - but this probably isn’t the case and we will always feel guilty for them!! No time is ever long enough with just them! We got pregnant more or less immediately and I really thought it would take a while as it took 7 months with my son!

that sounds really tough ☹️ but I am sure you will do an amazing job and adjust really well! have you got much support from other family members/friends? At least your little man is that bit older and has hopefully a little bit more patience and understanding. Hope you are feeling okay and not too anxious! Xx

CheeseAndCrackersx · 27/09/2023 14:15

Been out doing the food shop.
God, my hips are dead! And I swear I felt like at 1 point I was waddling 🤣

PeeBeee · 27/09/2023 14:44

@CharXo yes i had an emcs - purely because it wasn’t planned, not because anything was wrong with me or baby.

and honestly, it was amazing. My lg came out crying straight away so I knew she was grand, they delayed the cord clamping and i got skin to skin in the theatre.

Part of me thinks, try for vbac but as soon as induction is mentioned, its straight to c cesarian. Consultant told me i had plenty of time to decide and we would revisit on the 4th Dec at 28 week consultant apt!

i am annoying myself going back and forward lol but I think elective is way for me for so many reasons!

FTMCHD · 27/09/2023 15:05

I’ve had my 20 week scan today and I’m feeling meh. Both babies had Femur lengths measuring below the 5th percentile but all other measurements were ok and the weights given are ok. They’ve told me not to worry too much and that hopefully by my 24 week scan they’ll be measuring above the 5th percentile but I just can’t help but worry!

anony1111 · 27/09/2023 15:47

@Kilminchy123 yeah your right, I think we could wait years and still feel guilty. Im sure your little ones will be besties in no time 🥰 it's just the fear of them feeling pushed out I think that worries me the most.
Yes I have lots of family and friends for support thankfully, not sure I would get through it without them.
Thank you, I hope your anxiety isn't too overpowering and passes soon too. This is a really supportive thread to be a part of so always someone to chat to x

DmcinT · 27/09/2023 18:47

God girls I’ve a really uncomfortable pain around my belly button, its worst when I sneeze or cough. I thought maybe I’d pulled a muscle but I really don’t know, it’s a strange pain (not like the stretching pains I’ve had)

anyone experiencing this?

CheeseAndCrackersx · 27/09/2023 22:11

Has anyone in this pregnancy or past (this is my first) experienced jaw pain.
I'm in agony on my left side, I can't yawn or eat properly ☹️
I did google and it said it can be pregnancy related, but I'm just wondering if anyone else has had this and if it just went.

I'm unsure if it's just cos I've been rather anxious about my scan and it's triggered it

Gardenfingers23 · 28/09/2023 12:05

@CheeseAndCrackersx can’t say I’ve had jaw ache but it seems like every ache is attributable to pregnancy!!!

Had a bad dream last night that we went for the 20wk scan and the sonographer couldn’t find a heart beat and now I’m freaking out a bit. I’ve not really felt anything - I’m sure I’m imagining something at times but just think it’s other bodily functions - so I have nothing to go on that everything is OK. Now dreading Mondays scan!! Would I still be getting bigger if the baby wasn’t Growing??

5th centile is one of those borderline ones. We had short long bones with my son, and had regular growth scans including with fetal medicine unit. We were so worried but he was born fine and was tall. He's 19 months now, 70th centile for height, and in age 2+ clothes. For me they think it was a little asymmetrical growth restriction in the womb - I had low Papp A and gestational diabetes. I saw this a lot when I was doing research, and often it was fine. There's a calculation they can do at later scans looking at the amount of standard deviation, and difference between other measurements.

Totally get it, it spoilt my pregnancy having all of the scans and worry. But the measurements aren't below the 5th centile and at this point there's plenty of time to catch up

CheeseAndCrackersx · 28/09/2023 13:59

Over the moon to announce I'm having a boy 🥰🩵

Cheetocat · 28/09/2023 14:02

@CheeseAndCrackersx Congratulations!

We went to see an obstetrician today because it's routine to get extra checks with a higher BMI and they sprung an ultrasound on me out of nowhere, I'm so happy, we also discovered that our baby is likely a little boy! 🥰
