@LavenderSweetPea thanks for adding me. Wow we are quite girl heavy!

@CheeseAndCrackersx at my 16 week appointment the midwife said my uterus was at my belly button level. I'm 19 weeks now and rubbish at feeling it myself, but the hard hit of my bump is above my belly button

Adding @CharXo - there's more of us having surprises than I thought!

CharXo · 19/09/2023 07:57

@amyg1985 thank you! I’m a Complete technophobe haha.

I have woken up this morning feeling absolutely awful. Barely slept as I had such a sore throat I felt like I couldn’t breathe. Now I feel like I’ve got flu. My whole body is achey, my head is pounding and I could really do with a day in bed while the kids are at school to be honest. Just as I had my supervision at work yesterday and was telling my manager how well I feel!

Has anyone had the “mat leave” chat at work yet? My manager was kinda pressing for an answer of how long I’m going to take off but I have no idea 🤷🏽‍♀️

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/09/2023 08:26

@CharXo oh no feel better. Yeah I have because we're doing shared parental leave again. So we need to pin down the dates in advance. Last time we went travelling with baby and pup and it was incredible. This time we're debating whether travelling will be fun with two under two 🥴 anyone with two or more any tips or advice?

If you're thinking about shared leave, one tip is it's later in the contract than paternity leave section. We didn't realise. Last job my partner got 4.5 months full pay. This time he only gets 3 months full pay (different job) But we originally read the pat leave sections and thought he just got two weeks. In my company men now get 6 months full pay. So if you're interested we'll worth having a look at the whole contract

LavenderSweetPea · 19/09/2023 08:33

Oh no @CharXo I hope it's not covid? That's exactly how I've been feeling and I'm still in bed :(

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 we were thinking about doing shared parental as well, although unfortunately neither of our works gives very generous pay for this like yours does. I was wondering as you took it at the same time, how old was your baby when you went back to work? I'd love for us to take the SPL at the same time to spend it together as a family, but I'm worried it means having to go back to work earlier and put baby into nursery when they're around 8 months.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/09/2023 09:00

@LavenderSweetPea oh no I'm so sorry you're sick also.

I took 8 months, my partner took 4.5 months. We travelled for just over two months then did a couple of family holidays with parents and siblings and split the rest of the leave so one was at home and one was at work. We accrued a lot of holiday while on leave so used that to go part time for a few months after. Baby started at nursery with settles from 9.5 months ish, part time. We were home but there were so many bugs and we wanted to ease him in. They said perfect age because it's before the separation anxiety stage so he wasn't upset to be left at all. I was so worried about that. We could have used the holiday and KIT days to be off longer, but chose to get him settled and have a couple days a week home with us.

There are so many options, just depends on what works best for you x

amyg1985 · 19/09/2023 09:38

Feel better soon @CharXo and @LavenderSweetPea - seems to be a lot of it going around. I moved three times on the train this morning to try and avoid people coughing (I felt like I should shout "I'm pregnant, sorry" to justify myself)!

Mismatc · 19/09/2023 13:08

I’m 17 weeks and went to my first preterm clinic appointment today. Cervix is 29-31mm and it will be measured again at my 20 week scan. I’ll be keeping an eye on all the others in here who are having measurements of their cervix!

AbsolutePlonker · 19/09/2023 17:43

Just had my scan - baby was pretty perfect, and we found out it's a BOY! Overjoyed - although my little girl has been asking for a sister!!!

CheeseAndCrackersx · 19/09/2023 20:16

Think I've just had my first little craving.
I don't eat much big much when I'm on my own. So I was thinking oh I'll have a tin of tomato soup. But instead of with bread, a little someone inside was saying "crackers"
So I think my craving may be crackers 😄
Wonder if it's cos it's all I could stomach in my first trimester when my sickness was bad. Hence my username 😄

Foreverhoping33 · 19/09/2023 20:29

Hi all, loving hearing all your updates and who is having a boy or girl. We will be finding out but don’t have our 20 week scan till the 4th october - I can’t wait!

@A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 i would love to hear more about your travelling! Where did you go and how was it? This is our first baby and we are hoping to go away for a bit as my DH also gets quite a lot of time off. We are thinking of going to Canada when baby is about 6 months old and possibly doing it in an RV. Is this crazy??
Any advice (from anyone) much appreciated!

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 19/09/2023 20:51

@Foreverhoping33 most of my antenatal group did some sort of shared leave and travelling (London) and we kind of agreed the sweet spot is 3-7 months. Lots of naps, not too mobile, would sleep in pram while having dinner etc. Did mean starting weaning while away but it was fine. I reckon an RV would be great as you can pull over whenever baby gets antsy and relax. And don't have to pack and unpack all your things.

We have a dog and so drove across through France and did the champagne and wine regions, spent a month moving around Italy, did hiking in the mountains, Switzerland, lakes etc.

Havanalily1806 · 19/09/2023 21:51

Thanks to all who answered my question re finding out the gender.

We did decide to find out in the end and I'm so glad we did now- it all feels more real and it's definitely helping us get organised and make some decisions re the nursery.

We had our 20 week scan today which also confirmed the results from the private scan, but more importantly everything looked perfect, feels like we've had so many hurdles to get to this point it just feels a bit surreal.

We are joining team girl 💗

Kelb79 · 19/09/2023 22:03

@CheeseAndCrackersx obviously considering your username 😝😝😝

I’ve had no cravings, just a gazillion aversions!! I’m desperate for a craving or two so that I could eat and enjoy something!! 🫣
is everyone ends getting cravings??

Mangotango39 · 20/09/2023 03:43

I wouldn't say cravings as such but I definitely fancy things for a few days.

custard at the moment 😄

undercoverhero74 · 20/09/2023 06:04

@Kelb79 I have been craving read meat. Mainly in the form of steak pies, steak slices, steak casserole etc. I was concerned I might be a little anaemic but turns out bubba just really likes her steak!
I won't have a proper steak as I love them rare so steak in some sort of gravy will have to do 😂😂

Mangotango39 · 20/09/2023 08:08

@undercoverhero74 now I want a steak pie mmmmmm a pukka one! I can't get them where I am dammit haha!!

whats everyone's feelings of movements atm?
18+5 and last night I was sure I felt flutters in bed but nothing today (now 3pm) Feeling worried :(

if it was movement should it not be more regular?

20 week scan next Friday and the scan anxiety has crept back.

A1b2c3d4e5f6g7 · 20/09/2023 08:39

@Mangotango39 fine for it not to be regular until 26 weeks+. I worry too but it's normal, there's so much room for them to move in there still.

Clueless13 · 20/09/2023 09:19

@Mangotango39 I’m the same, always worrying about the smallest thing!

This is my first pregnancy, so I have nothing to compare it to but I was sure I’d been feeling very clear movements and kicks since last week and then on Sunday felt nothing, for a whole 24 hours I didn’t feel anything. I panicked and rang the hospital the midwife explained it is still early (18 weeks) and there will be days when I don’t feel anything. I hope that reassures you a little! xx

Mangotango39 · 20/09/2023 09:36

Thanks for sharing ladies - definitely reassured now ! :)

mumtotwox · 20/09/2023 10:12

Morning ladies! How are we all?

I had the midwife this morning and got my whooping cough and flu vaccine! Heard baby boy and he is sounding strong and healthy 💙 Measuring a week ahead so fully preparing for another big boy 😜

Shrillwaffle · 20/09/2023 10:16

It’s official I’m joining team girl 💖💕

BabyKing20 · 20/09/2023 11:28

Team girl for me too 🩷🥰 I’ve no idea how to update the lists that are going around though!
