@BMK 3 weeks since I had ds, where’s that time gone!? I swear it’s flown by and he’s changed so much already. His mop of hair is so unruly and even longer, he looks like he’s had his fingers in an electrical socket or he’s part hedgehog 😂 recovery has gone far better this time around, helped by not needing stitches (the doctor stitched me up too tight and that caused some issues for me) and probably because this time I knew what to expect and what helped me last time so I’ve had it all ready. We’re just so in love with him and he’s slotted so well into our lives, it’s like he’s always been here. Hope everything is going well with you and baby :)

@overwork how exciting to have found the name! I think testing the name out was a great idea, we’d had a name for ds that we liked but after using when I was pregnant we realised it wasn’t the name at all so changed it. We had the opposite problem really in that we changed the name and hoped he suited it when he was born - think our families would have thrown their hands up in exasperation if he hadn’t 🤣 We’d have been better keeping the name a secret but we couldn’t help ourselves. Awww that’s so lovely! I am with you on the hormones though, I am not generally an overly emotional person but the slightest thing has had me tearing up - dd got her school uniform and just looking at it had me close to sobbing 😂

CityKity · 08/08/2023 07:09

@overworkcongratulations on baby boy! We’re in a similar boat and have been testing out names, it’s so bloody hard isn’t it!? We had a list of names going in, but really we didn’t love and of the boys names on the list, they are so much harder than girls names! Now one of our front runners is a totally new one anyway. Lots of pressure to have a name sorted, but like you said we’ve got ages so I wish people would back off a bit!

@BMK congratulations despite the dramatic entry, i’m glad you’re both doing okay! To go through all bumps in the road with only gas and air is miraculous! I hope baby leave NICU soon so you can both go asap

SaraNaomi · 08/08/2023 08:29

Thanks for your reply, they hadn't sent my letter through so I phoned the department to ask for my date. @overwork thank you for your message too, I've got in touch with my midwife today good advice :) xxx

Daisy155 · 08/08/2023 10:12

@SaraNaomi thats good you have spoken to your midwife that’s what I was going to suggest and if you can get in touch with your consultant if you have further questions! That’s what I keep doing as I have a planned c section and high risk

congratulations @BMK anx @CityKity i hope the baby is doing well @BMK and you are very strong indeed!! 💕

lovely to hear all these birth stories it’s starting to feel real my c section is in less than 3weeks
I am at the hospital none stop, having scans and monitoring. I just finished having my MRI scan and I am so tired I just want the baby here now.

I am back again tomorrow for scan and CTG. By the end of the week I would have been at the hospital 5 times this week! 😭

I am grateful to have all these checks but I want time to move faster now!! Xxx

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 08/08/2023 11:05

@SaraNaomi I don't have any advice to offer but wanted to say thank you for the heads up. My c-section is next week and I was completely unaware of the strikes 🤦🏻‍♀️
Been too busy trying to get work done so all my handover is complete come Thursday that I am burying my head in the sand.

I will try and get hold of my MW and if she offers any useful advice I will let you know x

BCxx · 08/08/2023 11:22

@MinnieFirstTimeMum when I looked it up it seems to be the start of the week that’s affected by the strikes (unless it has a knock on effect) so hopefully you’ll be okay 🤞🏻

BCxx · 08/08/2023 11:23

@DesertSnow hope your baby is here now and everything went smoothly 🤞🏻

BCxx · 08/08/2023 11:25

@Daisy155 that sounds like an awful lot of trailing backwards and forwards 😔 as you say it’s good to have the reassurance but it must be exhausting.

I’m also totally fed up this time round, only have a week and a bit to go until my date but I just feel so over the whole thing. I would happily go now and get it over with!

BMK · 08/08/2023 11:51

Yes @SaraNaomi you can't deliver a transverse any way than by c section as I understand, unless the baby rotates itself but that's the unknown so even if uou started to have contractions/indications of the start of labour, it takes a few hours from that until real active labour so in that time they would definitely sort out your c section, just go to the hospital at the first sign of a contractiob, waters going etc. Given that they can do a c section during a birth ie rush you out to do e cs,they can absolutely do it when or if you present about to go into labour or etc
@CityKity and @Daisy155 thank yo'! Daisy that sounds overly demanding re vol of visits? Why do they need so many ans are you ok? I agree @overwork andn@CityKity re name pressure. I think we have a few months here to register and I yhink it took us 5 weeks to actually decide name for 1st baby, which noone could understand but we just couldn't find a boy's name that seemed to suit or agree on ones that we each thought did suit. I didn’t actually see what the big deal was as it was all new to me and I thought it was normal to have baby first then find out effectively what his name was!!(the baby kind of determines whether name is right or which one)
@sprollie11 don't worry at all, these things really put unwarranted fear into people. I remember being scared of this myself and another mother of 3 children told me this and I realised from a bit of research that she was right and it was v comforting.

@BCxx I got 1 ml yesterday, couldn't get more than 1/8 ml or leas last night and not a thing this a.m. so it's tricky and random!!!? My books are also sore from trying!! However good news is that baby is perfect: had just swallowed some amniotic fluid so it took until now for it to be absorbed by lungs.

BMK · 08/08/2023 11:57

@Annie Apple I am not tagging you in this as no doubt you are deliberately disengaging from this at this time but just in case you ever look in,we and I are still thinking of you. You set up this thread and were such a source of information and were an example of strength and logic. I genuinely feel that the world is at a loss from you not being a Consultant, head midwife or doing sth in this line or in the line of helping humans or research or even organisation which helps people as you are so technical and good at all the above. Your son is so lucky that you are his mum and whatever the reason the 2nd boy couldn't stay is outside of our knowing. I lost a girl before but these things are beyond our control. I hope another is just waiting to make its debut when you and they are ready.

BCxx · 08/08/2023 13:14

@BMK thats great news about baby! You will be so relieved 😊 I got 1ml this morning (after an hour’s effort) so have 6 syringes in total but it does seem to be hit or miss as to whether it comes out easily or not. I’m really bad at not drinking enough so I’m guessing that won’t be helping either!

sommeliermama · 08/08/2023 14:22

@BMK what a beautiful post for Annie Apple, if she sees it I'm sure it will really fill her heart ❤

@BCxx sounds like you're doing so well with the colostrum! I've not gotten to a full syringe per session yet but it's slowly increasing and getting easier. Think I'll probably bring 5ml in total to the hospital in a cool bag with ice packs and send my partner home for more if we need it. I really don't want all those hours of hard work to go to waste!

Paintandpots · 08/08/2023 16:25

Congratulations @BMK . Hope your both doing well and getting used to the newborn phase in babys life.

My baby boy was born 6th August, natural delivery but waters were ruptured to speed things along a bit. So thankfully no need for balloon or gel induction in the end.
He is doing really well at the moment and is a sweetheart. Breastfeeding so far seems to be going ok but we still need to perfect the latch i think as it seems to not be right on one side whilst the good side is ok. So one side is feeling sore and the other isnt.

Shinea · 08/08/2023 16:41

Hello all,
My C section is scheduled on this Friday!! Another 2 days to go!! Slowly packing hospital bag.
Though it's second time I m equally tensed and excited as well 😀
I m not able to sleep since 2 days due to anxiety/excitement 😞😅

BCxx · 08/08/2023 18:05

@Shinea oh exciting! Try to flip your mindset to ‘I’m so excited to meet my baby’.. your brain can’t tell whether the physical feelings you’re having are nerves or excitement so if you just tell yourself it’s excitement itl trick you into thinking it is 😅 I had such a good experience last time but kind of ruined it with my constant worrying. I’m going to go in with the ‘excited’ mindset this time instead and just think how much I cannot wait to see their little face 🤍

BCxx · 08/08/2023 18:09

@sommeliermama thanks! It’s going a lot better than last time. Some of my attempts aren’t as good as others though and I come away with half a syringe at a push but it’s still a lot more than I managed last time. It is just such a slow process though and takes forever 🙄 I think that’s probably sensible. At least if it’s left at home it definitely won’t get forgotten or lost, whereas you could go home from hospital and completely forget to ask for it back if it’s not used. I was stressing that I didn’t have enough ready made formula in as I only packed one box this time instead of two but looks like I won’t need much of it 😅 hope it keeps increasing for you

BMK · 08/08/2023 18:10

@Paintandpots thank you, same back st you!*I was in labour from evening of 6th but went on until 3am on 7th! Can you find a bf consultant in the hospital re latch? I have found if you go home without seeing them you don't get the help and end up losing confidence/giving up from frustration. However you have 1 side working so worst case you can express from other! @Shinea did you just get the date? @BCxx you're powering along re colostrum so! Well done to all who are managing it as it's time consuming and frustrating, albeit probably when waiting it's good thing to distract and pre prepared is pre armed. Wish I'd have had some in advance for the baby. Thankfully I managed to bf her there, despite her being bottle fed for a day (wasn't sure would she be able after getting used to bottle etc)

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 08/08/2023 20:38

Good luck @Shinea so exciting for you x

HRSC · 08/08/2023 22:27

Good luck @Shinea ! How exciting you’ll be meeting your baby so soon! Hope everything goes well 😊

Has anyone been drinking raspberry leaf tea? Google has conflicting advice (of course!) is it safe to drink/will it actually do anything?!

Shinea · 08/08/2023 22:51

Thank you @BCxx 🤗 right I m trying to stay calm and well prepared, my previous section was also very nice experience and straight easy recovery too

Yes @BMK as for multiple medical reasons I m getting caesarean at 38w!!

Part of me is somewhat missing this phase and baby massive movements wiggling etc; inside though!(this will be my last pregnancy)

Thank you @HRSC @MinnieFirstTimeMum xx

BMK · 08/08/2023 23:26

Oh @shinea think of all the sickness and hugeness and exhaustion and limitations it brings and how you many times just will it to be over, and that should make it ok to leave behind! I am happy to not do this again; albeit I know nostalgia can creep in as memory fades...!(*I should keep a diary/record of this now so not to let that ever happen!)

HRSC · 09/08/2023 11:56

Hi, sorry more questions! 😬
I’ve been feeling some cramping on and off this morning. It’s not regular and lasting about 5-15 seconds - I’m not sure if it’s ‘period pain like’ or more intestinal. Not sure if I can remember what period pains feel like! Will I ‘know’ when it’s more period pain like or could it be this? How can you tell if it’s contractions and not bowels?!? I’m 37+4 today so it does feel a bit early…

HRSC · 09/08/2023 11:58

P.S I had an appointment on Monday and my cervix was definitely closed and baby not engaged (although she’s hanging out upside down and my bump is low)

BCxx · 09/08/2023 13:19

@HRSC keep wondering the same thing and have no idea how it’s supposed to feel but get quite a lot of pain every other day and presume that’s it starting 😬

BMK · 09/08/2023 13:52

@hrsc and @BCxx the period type pain can go on for a week.or more. I came in 10 days before baby actually arrived with what were contractions of decent duration and adequate intensity, but as they weren’t constant/regular in pattern and getting more intense as opposed to staying roughly the same, they are Braxton I'd they then stopped after an hour more.
This was the most frustrating part as I often had actual contractions but they would stop after an hour or 2!! So it came to a point where it was like- will I just stay at home and see if they go away in an hour.. I live 1.5 hrs from hosp but that's what I did and they did go each time. When the real ones came it was after my plug left, after the show, after my waters went and after I had had cramping for a week and increased contraction activity. Also back pain before it started for a day or so and the contractions were different: a real biting pain in the pit of your abdomen into crotch and could almost feel the crotch/cervix being opened bit by bit..(*lovely I know)
