Hiya! I had a growth scan today and baby was measuring 7lbs 1oz at 37+2 & the dr was quite concerned so I have to go back in 2 weeks time, they will also give me a date for induction as I have GD. 7lbs 1oz doesn't seem that big to me?

Also my pelvic pain has been extreme recently so I asked the dr is baby engaged, she said baby is definitely head down but has a bit to go yet to be fully engaged. I just seen in my notes she had wrote abdominal palpitation - cephalic (which means head down I think?) but also wrote 2 beside it, does this probably mean 2/5 engaged? Because if so, that would definitely mean engaged? Or could the number 2 just mean anything 🤣

ChloeN · 25/07/2023 19:24

@overwork glad to hear your sweep went well! I’ve got one tomorrow so I’m hoping I might be a teeny bit dilated even if she can’t do the sweep🤣

overwork · 25/07/2023 19:52

Fingers crossed @ChloeN! I don't know what I was expecting from it but it wasn't terrible, and it made me feel like I was doing something useful to get things on their way.
@newmummie I've no idea about the number 2 but you're definitely correct about cephalic being head down!

BCxx · 25/07/2023 21:03

@newmummie hope your scan went well other than that. I think it depends how much they gain per day, I’ve heard people say 1oz and heard others saying 2oz per day. If it was 1 then that’s only an 8lb baby in 2 weeks time, if it was 2 that could be more like 9lb but it’s maybe to do with the GD I’m not sure 🤔

Yeah that sounds like 2/5 of the baby’s head is in your pelvis if that’s the case

BCxx · 25/07/2023 21:06

It’s so mad to me to be reading about people’s inductions and sweeps all of a sudden. They’re going to come thick and fast from next week I’m sure but I feel like I’m still living in my little bubble of denial 😂 Part of me is so jealous of anyone who isn’t pregnant and I’m so desperate to be able to just freely run about or even bend down to put shoes on! but at the same time part of me is also trying to put time into slow motion because I’m going to have a baby again and I can’t quite remember what that involves! 🙈

DomesticElf · 25/07/2023 21:26

@BCxx me too. This Thursday I will hopefully know the date for my elective section which will be Next Week! I am in a wobbly place right now, fed up of constant Braxton Hicks the moment I try to move, never ending heartburn, being the size of a beached whale; but on the other hand I am worried about the baby's temperament, will he sleep ok, will he eat ok etc. It feels surreal that next week I will have a brand new BABY.

My toddler is picking up on my emotional wobbles, although I do my best trying to be happy relaxed mum, still making every effort to play with him, take him out to park on his scooter/bike etc. Clearly he is more perceptive than I give him credit for 😬

Marmaladebear · 25/07/2023 21:27

Thank you @overwork and @sommeliermama!! All I did today was one load of washing, nap and make my kid's dinner 😂 and I'm still shattered! So lucky my husband is doing the lion's share right now.

@newmummie how strange, that doesn't sound that big to me either... My first was born at 37+4 and was 7lbs1 and that was 35th percentile if I remember correctly

BCxx · 25/07/2023 21:32

@DomesticElf oh that’s so exciting/terrifying 😂 I have my date but have another few weeks still. It’s probably better not knowing which day next week it will be until the last minute though! I do feel like I need to try and block out the fear when it comes to it though and just be really grateful that I’ve made it to the date and didn’t need an emergency one.

From memory the baby is actually the easier part at the very start but you aren’t physically recovered then I think by the time you’re feeling better is when the baby then stops sleeping as much and does more screaming! 😂

overwork · 25/07/2023 21:34

I thought it was 1/2 lb a week but I don't know what that is in ounces!

My waters have just gone, it's trickles but it keeps coming so I'm pretty sure that's what it is!
I'm not ready for this. I just cried at the thought that this is the last time I spend with my partner just us for goodness knows how long (well I say spend with him, I sent him off rugby training this eve because I thought we had another 24 hours or so and I thought we might both appreciate the breather!) He's on his way home now.

I'm going to have a bath and then call the hospital, no contractions yet but I presume they'll want me to go in now the waters have broken.

BCxx · 25/07/2023 21:45

@overwork ahhh sending you loads of luck! Keep us updated if you’ve got a long night of waiting x

Marmaladebear · 25/07/2023 21:46

Ahhh good luck @overwork hope all goes well!! Know what you mean, it's very overwhelming but sending lots of love 💕 They might not get you to come in straight away until your contractions get stronger/closer together but I think they'll def want you in within 24 hours since your waters have broke.

DomesticElf · 25/07/2023 21:47

@overwork good luck! 😘

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 25/07/2023 21:48

Good luck @overwork 🤞🏻🥰

sommeliermama · 25/07/2023 21:53

Good luck @overwork , so excited for you! ❤️

Rowanandremy · 25/07/2023 23:15

Good luck @overwork very exciting!

overwork · 25/07/2023 23:38

Just called the labour ward now and they've said to come in, but leave my bags in the car, so maybe I'll get to sleep in my own bed tonight if I'm lucky!

Paintandpots · 26/07/2023 06:25

@overwork good luck and fingers crossed for you!!

BCxx · 26/07/2023 07:23

@overwork how are things this morning? hope you managed to get a sleep

chickpea1982 · 26/07/2023 07:39

@newmummie 7lbs 1 oz at 37 weeks doesn't sound big at all to me! I had my last growth scan at 32 weeks, when they estimated my baby's weight at 6.5 lbs, so she's probably around 8 lbs by now (at almost 35 weeks), assuming she's putting on around 1/2 lb a week.

I also have GD and have been reading up on it to try to understand my options. I'm worried they will try to pressure me to be induced early, even though the NICE guidelines don't recommend early induction before 40 +6 and there doesn't seem to be very good evidence that early induction leads to better outcomes for GD. If you're interested you could look at Evidence Based Birth here: https://evidencebasedbirth.com/evidence-on-induction-for-gestational-diabetes/.

Evidence on: Induction for Gestational Diabetes - Evidence Based Birth®

Some providers encourage people with gestational diabetes (GDM) to plan elective induction at early term since they are at increased risk of complications from high blood sugar. Is this an evidence-based recommendation? Find out in our new article all...

overwork · 26/07/2023 07:47

Morning! We got home about 3am, they offered to either start the induction process or to see if anything starts naturally within the 24 hours. So I'm trusting my community MW and waiting to see what happens.
I'm in a lot of pain though, started out as period like cramps and now it feels like baby is doing pirouettes on my cervix. I wasn't expecting to find it painful before the contractions even start so now I'm rethinking all the preconceived ideas I had about the birth!

Marmaladebear · 26/07/2023 09:03

@overwork so good that you're home! Hypnobirthing helped me loads through the early stages if you've done any of that? Also really treat yourself and make yourself comfortable in every way possible - fav TV shows, snacks, drinks etc. My favourite part of my first labour was my husband feeding me pringles one at a time with a mini fan on me, rubbing my back between contractions (couldn't stand to be touched when I actually had one) and telling me stories about when we first started dating 🥰 had the lights dimmed and I bounced on my pregnancy ball

LS888 · 26/07/2023 10:13

@overwork hope you are managing the pain/discomfort. Just think you will have your baby soon 🥰 Get that oxytocin flowing with all of your favourite things- good luck!

HRSC · 26/07/2023 10:31

@overwork good luck!! Hope all goes well 🤞💖

@Marmaladebear I love what you did to encourage oxytocin! Great tips!

@LS888 thank you for Your advice about the strep b. It is definitely good to know about it beforehand!

Just a little rant/moan… I am so incredibly uncomfortable at the moment. 35+4 and baby has dropped right down into my pelvis making PGP much worse (it had been getting better with reflexology) now I am struggling to walk and have pains right down from my hips to my ankles, apart from anything else it is making sleep completely impossible 😣 also have so much ligament pain in my groin area and stabbing pains… Also have been feeling dizzy and sweaty this morning even though it’s not that hot today. No real point but to complain!! Feel very lucky to be pregnant but just can’t wait til baby is here!!

HRSC · 26/07/2023 10:35

PS. If one more person says that insomnia is ‘your body getting ready for the baby to come’ I shall scream! Anyone else feel this or am I just grumpy and irritable?! 😂😭

LS888 · 26/07/2023 10:50

@HRSC I’m also experiencing insomnia this week. Just out of nowhere. Can normally get back to sleep pretty quickly after a toilet break. But this week it has been a struggle. Also hate those sort of comments 🙄 not helpful at all! A lady at my pregnancy yoga class said she found sleep better with a newborn than during the third trimester as there was a purpose for getting up and feeding makes you sleepier! You also don’t have to sleep in a certain position which makes it easier!
