Here is promised thread jessi! Congratulations too Ellasmum and jessi - Ellasmum, my due date will be about 20th July I think. Haven't seen any midwife or doctor yet - trying to remember what I did when last time!

Hi, I'm nearly 9 weeks pregnant now and can't believe how tired I've been! Got slightly nauseous a couple of weeks ago but no other symptoms. No tender breasts etc so don't really feel pregnant apart from tiredness. I am in the US as my husband is working here temporarily and it is our first baby so really excited. Not insured unfortunately so had to pay $200 for the privalege of a pregnancy test (cost $30) but decided to go for a complete test by doctor (smear etc, breasts checking etc) and a blood test, which tested for HIV etc. I have been told to go for a scan on Feb 15th - quite strange as I do feel a bit isolated over here....mumsnet is a saviour! The excitement of the pregnancy outweighs all of this however as we were very lucky to get pregnant the first time trying, so spent the last 4 weeks in shock! Have snapped out of it now and trying to get some routine in my life. I can't work over here which is why I am so surprised that I'm so tired since I'm barely doing anything! Due date August 11th. We were only meant to be here until March but DH has been offered something else for another year so looks like the baby will get a green card!! Congratulations to all of you! I look forward to hearing about all of your progress.

Bekki · 10/01/2003 18:26

Hi everyone! Bozzy you must feel quite isolated, do you know many people from here? Perhaps ante-natel classes might be the answer to meeting people even if your only staying for short while. Congratulations, by the way. Is this your first? I'm 7 weeks pregnant. It dosen't feel real yet apart from very sore breasts. Can anyone what the usual time is for a first scan it seems to have altered since my first only 3 years ago.

musica · 10/01/2003 18:46

Congratulations all new people! Bekki, in answer to your question about scans, I think it varies from area to area. Some places will give you a dating or nuchal scan at 12 weeks, an anomaly scan at 20 weeks, and then a final scan at about 34 weeks. Where I am, we're given a paltry 20 week anomaly scan and that's it.

Hello again! Thanks for the congratulations. It is our first baby so even more daunting but I am getting used to the idea now... Bekki, my doctor told me to go for a my first scan on Feb 15th (12 weeks after conception). I plan to have my scan and then go to Chicago to check out hospitals etc as we are going to be in Europe for 2 months and then back again in the US (that is the plan at the moment anyway...). The good news is that there is a lot of info on the internet and I will join some ante-natal classes when we move. It is nice to know that there is lots of support at mumsnet. Thanks!

Ellasmum - I've just noticed a film listed for this Sat nite called 'Truly Madly Deeply'. Don't watch it if u haven't before - it's sure to get your emotions going. I saw it about 8 years ago & was in tears then. Goodness knows what I'd be like this time round if I saw it. I'm staying away from my telly Sat nite!

So it is really varied then. I am quite excited about the scans because I'm desperate to know the sex of my baby. It really helped last time to bond with my baby knowing what sex he was. If I do get a scan at 12 weeks would they be able to tell me the sex or would they tell me to wait till the next scan?

number3 · 12/01/2003 19:12

As far as I'm aware they can only sex a baby at the 20 week scan.
Hi Bekki by the way, I suppose I can join in on this thread now. Thanks for your liitle note on the other thread I've replied on that too.

Bekki · 12/01/2003 19:26

Nevermind I'm sure I can wait. Thats all you do when your pregnant anyway- wait that is.

musica · 12/01/2003 19:40

Bekki, what area are you in? Simply because, if you're desperate to know the sex, in some areas, such as North London, they won't tell you, partly because of the high risk of people aborting because it's the wrong sex, and partly in case they get it wrong! So it might be worth finding out so that you can plan.

I had a scan this week, at 12 weeks, and the little thing was SO cute! I saw it at 8 weeks, and it looked like a peanut, but it had graduated to looking like a frog. It even did a little hop!

hi all- Had My Nuchal scan on friday (only £95 here in Bucks) it was the best money I have ever spent! It is alot like the 20wk anomaly scan but so much earlier so I can relax now. Heart normal, scull and spine formed and normal, brain normal, stomach full of fluid so baby swallowing, 2 hands 2 feet all with 5 digits, etc. etc. He checked everything and the measurement of the fold took me to 1 in 6326 chance of downs. pretty good odds I feel.It was so nice to have such a long and thorough look in at the baby at 12wks. I'm not sure if i could have found out the sex as I didn't ask (cos i don't want to know) Sorry to rave on but it was great! Due date definatly 20th july!

KeepingMum · 13/01/2003 10:26

Hi, can I join you all. I'm due on 30th July with my second baby. Ds is 21 months at the moment and were still wondering how we are going to cope with two! I had a nuchal scan last night (had to go private as our health authority only offer 16 week bloods and 20 week anomaly). The dated me as a week extra 12w3d instead of 11w3d which I found quite strange as my cycle was always longer than 28 days rather than shorter. DOes anyone now how accurate they really are. The doc said they were accurate to 0.1 mm and was a bit dismissive when dh asked what happened if the baby decided to stretch out his toes a little bit! Have to wait until tonight for the results of the scan and blood test so a bit anxious and haven't told any one else yet. Hope all the other Mums-to-be are over the worst of the sickness

musica · 13/01/2003 11:40

The dating is accurate to plus or minus 5 days. They measure 'crown to rump' - i.e. head to bottom, so I guess stretching its toes wouldn't make much difference!

Hi and congratulations everyone!

My first baby is due on 27th August although I think it will be later than that. don't know why - just have a feeling!

Bekki · 14/01/2003 16:04

It seems that I will have to wait for the sexing scan but thats o.k. With my first pregnancy I knew it was a boy from about 9 weeks, I just had a feeling. My friend is 20 weeks pregnant and has just found that its a boy which didn't surprise her one bit. I'm expecting that my initial feelings that this ones a girl will turn out to be true. Has anyone else 'guessed' right on the sex of their babies?

EmmaTMG · 14/01/2003 16:22

With my DS1 I wasn't the least bit surprised when he arrived being a boy. I had a feeling with DS2 that he would be a boy too but we found out at 20 weeks so I didn't have to wait the whole 40-ish weeks.

wiltshirelass · 14/01/2003 17:37

Can i join in please? due date Aug 30th. This will be my third - daughter now 5, son 2 1/2. Both were induced at 10 days late, both in hospital with lovely epidurals, so I have no idea why I am thinking about a home birth with this one!
Delighted that I've never had morning sickness (not even a twinge) which seems to be holding true for this pregnancy, but get very tired in the first months. Working 4 days a week but very lucky as I can do 2 of those from home and have masses of excellent help and a husband who does the early shift every weekend and lets me sleep!!!

bundle · 15/01/2003 11:51

bekki, thought both of mine were boys...and they're both girls!

Bekki · 15/01/2003 21:44

Wow it seems to be quite a way off dosen't it, until late August, early September I suppose once we start showing and we feel all lovely and blooming the time will fly by. Well Bundle, it seems that it might be a bit misleading then assuming you can guess your babies sex, i don't think that there could be a valid hormonal/biological reason for knowing the sex is there? Wiltshirelass, I think every woman should try to experience a natural birth at home or anywhere. The pain (I think) is part of the process and it gives you something to boast about and compare with other mums. Although when I had my son myself and 3 other womaen on the ward were completely dazed and in shock after the birth. Wheras the only woman to have had an epidural was bright, funny and together. I had hoped to have a homebirth but I'm still thinking about the possible mess it would create in our newly carpeted, small house. Do only woman with nice, posh houses have homebirths?

KMS · 15/01/2003 22:35

Bekki- I have considered a home birth but also not sure where in the house to have it. My sister had her 3rd at home and I remember them comenting not to decorate before as you sure need to after regardless of the plastic sheeting!
was also sure my last two were boys and they were. Think this may be a girl as been very sick unlike with boys but I may be wrong.

ellasmum · 16/01/2003 14:39

I am convinced this one is a boy - have had a totally different pregnancy than with DD. Looking forward to finding out at 20 week scan.

musica · 19/01/2003 08:56

How's everyone doing? I'm coming up to 14 weeks now, and beginning to get really fed up with feeling sick! I really hate all the information packs that say 'morning sickness eases off after 12 weeks'. Ha!

Hope you're all doing well, and not feeling sick!

Jodiesmum · 20/01/2003 08:04

Ellasmum - I've had a completely different pregnancy too but am having another girl apparently! Am finding it v hard to believe as I was so convinced and the scanner was a bit vague - said it's either a girl or a boy with a very small penis to which my husband said absolutely no way! Results of the amnio should confirm for sure this week so v excited.

MELIWHITE · 20/01/2003 10:23

Hello everyone.

Am now coming into my 13th week, and have my first scan on Friday. Feel like I am just sitting on a clock at the moment, waiting for for the days to pass till I know that everything is ok. Have been pretty well throughout, but have just started having real sleeping problems. Am aware that my body is working throughout the night, and it just doesn?t seem to want to shut down. Will this last throughout now? I?d hoped that I'd be able to enjoy sleeping a bit longer!

Other than that all is well. Hope everyone else is ok.

Bears · 20/01/2003 22:06

I'm now in my 13th week & so far so good. This may sound crazy but I'm sure I can sometimes feel the baby move & have done for a couple of weeks. I know they say you can feel a 2nd baby earlier but this early?!
