Hi lovely's

Starting a new thread for those that have gone through ivf and are in the early stages as appreciate we have different anxieties maybe to other groups.

I'm Gayle, I had a fresh transfer on Monday the 13th March and I am currently 5 weeks 4 days pregnant. First test showed 1-2 weeks, last weeks test showed 2-3 and next test due on Wednesday (clinic have recommended a test a week until early scan) early scan is on the 14th April.

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for nearly 10 years. We fell pregnant naturally 6 years ago, however after some bleeding at 8 weeks, i went for an early scan and was only dating between 5 and 6 weeks so had to go back in a further 2 weeks to check if any development and the night before, I had a miscarriage. We haven't fallen since and following some tests, it was put down to make factor infertility and ICSI and was recommended however we could not proceed (privately) with my bmi so I started the hard work to lose 5 stone in May last year and hit my target in January 2023 to start our treatment.

I feel like there have been lots of barriers in our way so far. Nhs said no, due to my weight it was a no, due to the financials it was a no so to have anything with a yes now without having a massive battle, feels strange and like it's not quite true!

Symptoms so far - sore boobs, cramping, so hungry, feeling little bits of nausea but not sure if it is my mind or it is real

Feel free to tell me about your battle and how you are feeling

I was very anxious during my own IVF pregnancy. I had a small area of bleeding behind the embryo which caused me so much worry. I read that these are quite common, especially after IVF. However, I had a couple of extra private scans to reassure myself.

I also worried a lot when my pregnancy symptoms disappeared for two days, but once again, everything turned out fine. I first felt my baby’s movements at 21 weeks and was much less anxious after that.

I wish you all the best of luck x

UrbanParakeet · 25/04/2023 10:17

9w3d and the fatigue and headaches are pretty bad. Have started dry heaving at every smell as well. Although I can work from home most of the time, I still need to go into the office and am dreading it. Anyone else consider getting signed off for work due to symptoms?

Stopthatnoisemummy · 25/04/2023 22:02

@UrbanParakeet am with you on the symptoms. Just got home after dinner with a friend and DH had calamari for tea...whole house stinks. My toothpaste has just made me gag too. Trying to take them all as positive signs but hard to feel thankful about feeling so sick! I started a new job this week and am in the office 4 days (Wed is my day at home with DD). Am finding being busy distracting me from angsting over symptoms and pain/cramping, but you do what is right for you.

BrownXeyes · 26/04/2023 08:10

@Stopthatnoisemummy hope the new job goes well! Sickness is taking over me too and exhaustion I have just slept for 12 hours straight however I do feel so much better for it. Hopefully your new job will distract you! X

Stopthatnoisemummy · 28/04/2023 12:50

How isn't everyone doing? Anyone had any more scans lately? Am trying to resist booking an extra private one.

Had my booking in appt today and as expected I've got to have quite a few different follow ups for various reasons (pre existing condition and complicated labour last time). 12 week scan booked for the 24th May so 4 weeks to go!

Really hoping the exhaustion, insomnia and nausea start to ease soon, I feel so useless at the moment as all I am doing is going to work, dealing with the toddler and then lying on the sofa. Bring on that 2nd trimester 'glow' 😆

BrownXeyes · 28/04/2023 16:25

@Stopthatnoisemummy i feel you I am still experiencing the nausea and food aversions and have fell asleep before 10pm on the couch every night for the last week.

I gave in and booked a private scan for Monday just for reassurance.

glad your booking app went ok mine is the 4th of May and just got my scan date through for 30th May. I have everything crossed for you for the 24th!!

gulph · 28/04/2023 16:31

Hi ladies! I had my booking appointment yesterday as well. Just waiting to find out when I'm my 12 week will be (via letter 🤷🏼‍♀️) we have booked a private scan for Wednesday when we will be 10 week so fingers crossed 🤞🏻

My symptoms still aren't too bad, I sometimes feel a bit sick but nothing too bad which still worries me but I just have to put it out of my mind as much as possible until Wednesday.

@greentreeseverywhere that is such good news have an amazing holiday!!

@gulph my scan came through on a letter too. It came through today the midwife phoned me
last week so took about a week to come through.

UrbanParakeet · 28/04/2023 17:37

Finally the bank holiday weekend (in the Uk)!! Well done on getting through another week and hoping all the ladies who are struggling can get some rest this weekend.

So many positive milestones! Great to hear about scans and booking appointments! My 12 week scan is on May 15th. 10 weeks tomorrow and lower abdomen has popped all of a sudden! It’s getting real!

MrsBF77 · 22/04/2023 08:22

Morning all!

congrats everyone on your scans!

little update - I got refered to the EPU eventually and went yesterday as still spotting - and saw the lovely lady’s at the RSCH.

I had a scan and they saw 2 sacs. One has a tiny baby with a heartbeat!! The other unfortunately is empty and looking like it’s collapsing and has a bleed behind it which explains my cramps and bleeding.

I’m glad I pushed for a referal as no one would listen when I said something (including my husband!) was wrong and whilst I know they can’t do anything for the second baby, I’m so pleased the first is ok and has a heartbeat! We were only 6+1 so super lucky to see it!!

have another scan in 2 weeks at the EPU

Just another update!

we went for a private scan today at 7weeks, 1 day as I’ve been really worried about the size of the baby last week and the spotting is still
happening.

We saw 2 heartbeats, 2 sacs and 2 baby’s!! Both measuring around 10mm and great strong heartbeats.

im
in shock 🤣

gulph · 28/04/2023 18:53

OMG congratulations! That's amazing!

MrsBF77 · 28/04/2023 19:15

Thank you - I’m gob smacked - was expecting bad news and instead got twins! I was sick outside the clinic with shock 🤣

Stopthatnoisemummy · 28/04/2023 19:48

@MrsBF77 @greentreeseverywhere great news for you both 😃

UrbanParakeet · 28/04/2023 22:27

@MrsBF77 Oh wow! What a turn of events and great news going into the weekend. Congratulations!

graygoose · 29/04/2023 03:31

@MrsBF77 congratulations, wow what amazing news!!

I have an 8 week scan booked for next week - just need the reassurance. Symptoms have been exhausting, Tuesday and Wednesday I felt ok and then got nervous but came back with a vengeance on Thursday. Just feel constantly hungover, it’s making me so grumpy!

Vallef · 29/04/2023 19:12

Hi everyone can I join the chat? I just tested today and came back positive at 425. Feel so happy! I am part of another thread for IVF starters in APril but would be nice to have be a part of this group in case for some information as my only previous positive pregnancy ended in miscarriage at 6 weeks so I was looking for some support this time to calm the nerves.

I hope everyone is well. @MrsBF77 congratulations I read your msg and am so happy for you!!

gulph · 30/04/2023 20:26

Of course @Vallef!

Anyone else showing already? I'll be 10 weeks on Wednesday and already look about 5 months pregnant probably from the constant grazing I've been doing but I'm struggling with my clothes already. Tried a pair of maternity jeans on yesterday and they were actually so comfy 😂 I would have bought them if they were the right colour so I'm going to order them online. Literally living in either joggers, pjs or loose fitting dresses. I'm a bigger girl anyway so think it's going straight to my belly which I'm not mad at after all these years of wanting to be pregnant but still need to be careful
I don't put on too much weight after losing so much recently to get the treatment 🤦🏼‍♀️

Hopewishprayer · 30/04/2023 21:22

Hey, what a great thread to have! Hope it’s ok if I join?
I am 9+3 and after 5 rounds of ivf with one MMC I am extremely anxious. This was our last round and so delighted to have a BFP! Had scan at 7+3 and saw heartbeat and growing exactly as should be so trying to remind myself for once odds are in our favour. My nhs scan isn’t until I will be 13+5 so have booked another private scan before then.
Between the fatigue/nausea and anxiety I feel all I’ve been doing is getting through the days counting down until hopefully reach 12 weeks!
hope everyone is well and look forward to hearing about your journeys xx

gulph · 30/04/2023 21:29

Welcome @Hopewishprayer welcome to a big group of equally anxious warriors 😊 I don't think anything could have prepared us for this journey. During ivf it's always just about getting through to the next step and now it's about wishing weeks away.
I don't honestly think even at 12 weeks I will relax.

OP posts:
Vallef · 30/04/2023 21:37

@gulph thank you :) have you discussed weight with the doctor out of curiosity? I put on alot of weight during my 3rd round last year like literally about 10kg so that's a stone and a half and am quite overweight now so on top of everything else am anxious about am also thinking about nutrition and weight and if it will affect the baby? It feels like by the time one anxiety finishes another starts. I think everyone in this group is reaching their 12 weeks nearly and am still at 4 so such a long way to go!!

gulph · 30/04/2023 21:46

Not discussed it with midwife as of yet. I'm seeing her again on the 11th so will see what she says. In my pack it says expected weight gain 4.5kg - 9kg and I think I have put on about 4 already since my egg collection 🫣 I was on such a strict diet for the year prior to egg collection and using saxenda so as soon as I gave that up, I knew I would gain.

It will be nice for you to see how everyone else is getting on so you can prepare for the next stage! We have literally all been in your position so any questions just shout

Hopewishprayer · 30/04/2023 21:57

@gulph thank you! Yes that’s it exactly so focussed on the ivf part and getting that BFP that never really thought about next stage!!
good to know I am in good company 😊 no one else really gets it unless they have been through it x

gulph · 30/04/2023 22:01

Absolutely! It's funny, I'm in a chat with other people due around the same time and their conversations are so different much more worried about telling family members and work etc whereas most of our nearest and dearest have known from the off due to the whole process. And so many saying 'my youngest is only 4 months and I accidentally fell pregnant again' 😂🤦🏼‍♀️
