Hi lovely's

Starting a new thread for those that have gone through ivf and are in the early stages as appreciate we have different anxieties maybe to other groups.

I'm Gayle, I had a fresh transfer on Monday the 13th March and I am currently 5 weeks 4 days pregnant. First test showed 1-2 weeks, last weeks test showed 2-3 and next test due on Wednesday (clinic have recommended a test a week until early scan) early scan is on the 14th April.

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for nearly 10 years. We fell pregnant naturally 6 years ago, however after some bleeding at 8 weeks, i went for an early scan and was only dating between 5 and 6 weeks so had to go back in a further 2 weeks to check if any development and the night before, I had a miscarriage. We haven't fallen since and following some tests, it was put down to make factor infertility and ICSI and was recommended however we could not proceed (privately) with my bmi so I started the hard work to lose 5 stone in May last year and hit my target in January 2023 to start our treatment.

I feel like there have been lots of barriers in our way so far. Nhs said no, due to my weight it was a no, due to the financials it was a no so to have anything with a yes now without having a massive battle, feels strange and like it's not quite true!

Symptoms so far - sore boobs, cramping, so hungry, feeling little bits of nausea but not sure if it is my mind or it is real

Feel free to tell me about your battle and how you are feeling

@MrsBF77 How are you feeling? I had fairly big bleeds (bright red blood) and called the Early Pregnancy Unit at my local hospital and they provided advice/scheduled me in for a scan. I continued to have brown spotting afterwards for a week as it was my body getting rid of the ‘old blood’ as explained by the EPU. Perhaps call your EPU to be safe? I also called my clinic the first time it happened and the only thing they could offer was a beta test to check hormones. Scans have reassured us that all is progressing as expected and bubs is still safe and growing.

Stopthatnoisemummy · 17/04/2023 05:39

@graygoose good luck with your scan today

graygoose · 17/04/2023 06:08

@Stopthatnoisemummy thank you 🙏 it’s been postponed to Thursday since I had a super early one last week as I was concerned about bleeding but obviously didn’t see anything but a yolk sac. Trying to stay calm this week but it he anxiety has really hit me, I didn’t realise I would struggle this much.
Hope everyone else is coping and hanging in there!

graygoose · 17/04/2023 06:09

@Stopthatnoisemummy your scan is very soon right? Our dates are practically identical if I remember right, thinking of you xx

Stopthatnoisemummy · 17/04/2023 07:30

@graygoose sorry to hear that, Thursday isn't far away now. The waiting and not knowing is just so hard, got everything crossed for you.

My scan is tomorrow afternoon 😬

SurferAnna · 17/04/2023 08:26

@browneyedgirl626 @Stopthatnoisemummy That's reassuring that you too did the appointment/s solo. The nurses are so lovely at the clinic, they just make me feel awesome. It's all female, and I know what shouldn't matter, but it is such a nice atmosphere.

Hi @MrsBF77So no spotting, but definitely cramping and an upset stomach. I'm sure your clinic knows what they're talking about, but I totally get worrying! I'm constantly worrying, and I'm usually quite laid back 😅

@graygoose I was just about to say good luck for your scan today, but I see it's been moved! So good luck for your scan Thursday!

MrsBF77 · 17/04/2023 12:56

Had a nurse’s appointment today - she asked me to have an EPU to get a scan due to spotting and cramps, dizziness and upset tummy - they won’t see me without GP referal and told me to go to a&e if I have a miscarriage!

the doctor won’t see me as I used a private ivf clinic until I am 8 weeks or until I get a letter saying they consent to shared care - clinic will do this but not till tomorrow as they are in Greece and it’s a bank holiday. They have asked me to have a scan to check it’s not ectopic but I can’t get booked in unless I go probate and travel to London!

i understand it’s procedure but a bit annoying I can’t check it’s not serious until I get ill or miscarry or wait another few weeks

good luck to everyone on their scans today! X

UrbanParakeet · 17/04/2023 14:15

@MrsBF77 Oh no! That is so annoying. So sorry to hear that. I thought you can self refer to the midwife unit at your local hospital. Is this just a London thing? I sent an email to do this right after I got the positive beta so I could get into their system and EPU had no problem seeing me when I called them at 5 weeks. Never had to get a letter about shared care. My doctor only knows I’m pregnant now as midwife sent them a letter to tell them I’m in their care.

MrsBF77 · 17/04/2023 15:07

Have registered with midwife but can’t contact them as not had first appointment yet so won’t speak to me - very annoying! Oh well, got docs phone call tomorrow and will
book a private scan for Thursday to check it’s not ectopic/miscarriage and fingers crossed will all
be fine! Thanks for your reply’s all x

gulph · 17/04/2023 21:24

1 more sleep @Banbi!

@MrsBF77 oh that's so frustrating! I think for your own piece of mind, I would pay privately for a scan or it will constantly be on your mind and I know how every single minute feels like the longest time of your life praying for the health of your little one 💗

Had an email through confirming my first midwife appointment next Thursday so guess that is the next milestone to look forward to!

@MrsBF77 that all sounds v frustrating and hope all OK at your scan on thurs. If its any consolation pain/cramping is pretty common. Mine has been put down to the presence of a cyst on my ovary.

@Banbi how did you get on?

Pleased to say that all was good at my scan today. One little bean in the right place, saw a little flickering and heard the heartbeat 💓 I was actually measuring a bit ahead but it's such a difficult measurement to do accurately! I've self referred to the midwives now, and next on the list is to get more blood thinning injections as I have to take them for my entire pregnancy (and probably beyond, it was 6 months posy birth last time).

gulph · 18/04/2023 20:50

That's amazing @Stopthatnoisemummy! Feels so nice to have that reassurance that all is progressing ok 💗

Bad news for us I'm afraid. Thanks all for the company and good wishes. Bowing out now but wishing you all the very best x

gulph · 18/04/2023 21:57

Oh @Banbi I'm so sorry 💗 thank you for all your support over the last few weeks. I really wish things had been different for you. Please look after yourself xxx

@Banbi I’m so sorry, this is such a brutal process. Wishing you all the very best and thinking of you xx

Stopthatnoisemummy · 19/04/2023 06:24

@Banbi so sorry. Look after yourself.

UrbanParakeet · 19/04/2023 14:00

@Banbi I’m so sorry to hear… hope you are ok. Take care and sending our thoughts

MrsBF77 · 19/04/2023 17:11

So sorry @Banbi xxx

graygoose · 20/04/2023 02:35

Some positive news to share - just had our 6 week scan and they found a heartbeat! Very relieved, feel like I can exhale again. Good luck to us all on this rollercoaster and my thoughts with those who haven’t received such good news xx

Stopthatnoisemummy · 20/04/2023 05:32

So pleased for you @graygoose

SurferAnna · 20/04/2023 06:03

@graygoose That's wonderful news. I've got my 6 week scan on Tuesday. I know that seeing a heartbeat at 6 weeks isn't a given, so I'll be happy to see anything at this stage!

gulph · 20/04/2023 07:56

That's great @graygoose! So happy things went well.

Has anyone else relaxed on the symptom checking since their scan? I know I am! Rightly or wrongly my anxiety has really reduced and i feel much happier in my body

UrbanParakeet · 20/04/2023 14:20

@Stopthatnoisemummy @graygoose Great news about your scans! So pleased for both of you

@gulph Fantastic news about feeling happier in your own body. Must feel amazing. I will probably be more relaxed after my 9 week scan tomorrow. We saw a heartbeat at 6.5 weeks but I’m being really cautious.

Can I ask, is anyone else experiencing inconsistent symptoms? One day I have vertigo, the next excess saliva, the next nausea, the next headaches, the next loss of appetite… it just keeps going and it’s hard to predict.

SurferAnna · 20/04/2023 23:48

@UrbanParakeet It's so hard to tell if my symptoms, are actually pregnancy symptoms, or are just psychosomatic / down to the progesterone. The main one I've got is massive bloating. I genuinely look 5 months pregnant and it's so uncomfortable! Other than that I really don't think I have any symptoms at all. I'm extra tired and sometimes I feel a bit sick, but I think that might just be anxiety? I really have no idea!

SurferAnna · 20/04/2023 23:50

@gulph I'm really really hoping I'll chill on the symptom checking front after the 6 week scan, buuuut I probably won't 🙃
