Hi lovely's

Starting a new thread for those that have gone through ivf and are in the early stages as appreciate we have different anxieties maybe to other groups.

I'm Gayle, I had a fresh transfer on Monday the 13th March and I am currently 5 weeks 4 days pregnant. First test showed 1-2 weeks, last weeks test showed 2-3 and next test due on Wednesday (clinic have recommended a test a week until early scan) early scan is on the 14th April.

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for nearly 10 years. We fell pregnant naturally 6 years ago, however after some bleeding at 8 weeks, i went for an early scan and was only dating between 5 and 6 weeks so had to go back in a further 2 weeks to check if any development and the night before, I had a miscarriage. We haven't fallen since and following some tests, it was put down to make factor infertility and ICSI and was recommended however we could not proceed (privately) with my bmi so I started the hard work to lose 5 stone in May last year and hit my target in January 2023 to start our treatment.

I feel like there have been lots of barriers in our way so far. Nhs said no, due to my weight it was a no, due to the financials it was a no so to have anything with a yes now without having a massive battle, feels strange and like it's not quite true!

Symptoms so far - sore boobs, cramping, so hungry, feeling little bits of nausea but not sure if it is my mind or it is real

Feel free to tell me about your battle and how you are feeling

I have turned into such a demon on marketplace and Vinted. I had a nice bonus at the end of March so I put it all into a savings account for anything baby related. I bought my pram and car seat new and have bought new mattresses for cots etc. everything else, I've got on marketplace or vinted.
Just picked up a nuby newborn bath and an Angel care seat (still in plastic) for £10! Both on my Amazon wish list and would have cost me £40 if I had got new - will soak in dettol and will be good to go 👍🏻

It looks like I've spent a lot of money on stuff so far but I'm such a cheap skate 😂

My finds so far:
Whole nursery set from silver cross - £350
Nursing chair and stool - £30
The next to me cot and hug for living room -£100
Changing unit in our bedroom - £20
Sling wrap - £10
Sleeping bag - £3
Brand new snow suit from mamas and papas -£7
The storage boxes I already had

@Stopthatnoisemummy ow hun your pain sounds horrendous!! I really hope those support bands help and I think they might do I read they help support you ligaments and spine align better so positive thinking!! We don't unfortunately have any friends who have had babies in the UK and my sister who has 3 under the age of 5 isn't the type of person who saves things as soon as she doesn't have a use for something she gives it away even though myself probably bough a gd chunk of it so where I was hoping I'd use it one day I can't. And as we have spent thousands on IVF and their 2 it's difficult triyinf to budget for all these big items between your dream nursary or what you can afford but one step at a time I guess!!! In regards to carpet quotes I would maybe also suggest you look at a gd laminate. Carpets tend to pick up dust and everything that we breath in and in my head a laminate might be more easier to clean? It might also work out cheaper as b&q sometimes have really gd sales on and if you get the click ones I think even your hubby might be able to install or you find someone on FB to come do them cheap? In regards to the glucose test I got a call today to say I can't do it as I previously had surgery to my stomach and will cause a syndrome aparently if I do it so think am going to see a diabetic nurse on my return and they might give me a machine to monitor I didn't really get it but they will explain!

@gulph @BrownXeyes @Stopthatnoisemummy I have shared my number to gulph so she can set up the group chat. If you ladies and anyone else up for the group chat there's no pressure just share ur mobiles via PM To gulph :) not sure about sharing a link just because sometimes we get people reading the chat and maybe it might not be such a great idea if random people join the watsap that we dont know for safety reasons i.e in case we discuss more personal nature informstion locations etc. I think might just be best if we share our numbers to you @gulph and you just add us one by one as we all currently know each other and feel comfertable ? Happy to also do this if you don't have the time to help out.

BrownXeyes · 25/08/2023 11:21

@vallef I am in the same situation after
paying thousands for IVF! So I feel your pain with it all trying to work out where to spend the money and where to save. I’m finding Vinted useful I just filter it to brand new stuff with tags.

@gulph i have sent you my number for WhatsApp 😊 xx

Vallef · 25/08/2023 11:24

@BrownXeyes I didn't know what vented was until you guys started mentioning it so I had a look last night and honestly haven't figured out how to use it effectively yet but il get there!!

BrownXeyes · 25/08/2023 11:26

@Vallef you will get there just have a good explore before you start buying stuff x

CR7 · 25/08/2023 14:20

@Vallef I literally just typed in topshop maternity dress 12 and they all ping up. I also got some in a 14 for later on. Every items carries buyers protection so you pay a pound or two and the seller doesn't get your money until you mark it as delivered and happy. I reckon I've spent £80 and got ten dresses that are all winners xx

Same as @CR7 I put in brands so for the baby, I put in mamas and papas and loads of brand new stuff comes up, or put in baby bjorn, or just type in 'newborn' and loads of stuff come up. You will be addicted! I just thought I'm not paying £39.99 for a little snow suit thing that the baby may wear once or twice - we may not end up having a really cold winter, or may not go out walking anywhere they will need it so 2nd hand was deffo the way to go 😂

Not sure whether to reply here or WA!

Physio was all OK this morning, am all strapped up now and have some gentle exercises to do, which will hopefully keep things manageable. She did say to rest as much as I can - chance would be a fine thing!

We are in the same boat as a lot of you with having had to pay for all our rounds of IVF, so saving where we can. We had budgeted for 4 frozen transfers this year but fortunately only needed 2, so able to get the carpets and painting done with the 'leftover' savings. Had 2 people round to quote for the painting today, impatiently waiting for them to email me the figures so we can make a decision and get one booked in, and then the carpets after that which feel like big hurdles to get out of the way.

I get lots of DDs clothes on vinted, and I often go for 2nd hand bundles to save on postage too. The clothes she wears to nursery usually end up covered in paint anyway, so not bothered about them being new with tags!

CR7 · 25/08/2023 16:49

@Stopthatnoisemummy
You are absolutely right. We've officially signed baby up for nursery, and one of the many things that they said to us was, please do not send the baby in nice clothes, even if the clothes are stained or secondhand, it doesn't matter. As long as they are clean! I personally can't imagine, sending my kid into nursery in fancy clothes, but when we walked around, some people definitely did do that!

Glad you went for the physio x

AlisonDanuta · 25/08/2023 18:30

As you're all talking about clothes - there's a 20% discount on seraphine if you want a maternity stuff or hoodies with baby extensions when is in a sling 🥰🥰🥰

gulph · 25/08/2023 19:59

Omg I really want one of those hoodies where it has a pouch for baby @AlisonDanuta! Can't justify that much on a hoodie though, SHEIN have a bargain version so waiting for some discount codes or vouchers and I'll order that!
