Ivf pregnancy - first trimester

Starting a new thread for those that have gone through ivf and are in the early stages as appreciate we have different anxieties maybe to other groups.

I'm Gayle, I had a fresh transfer on Monday the 13th March and I am currently 5 weeks 4 days pregnant. First test showed 1-2 weeks, last weeks test showed 2-3 and next test due on Wednesday (clinic have recommended a test a week until early scan) early scan is on the 14th April.

My husband and I have been trying for a baby for nearly 10 years. We fell pregnant naturally 6 years ago, however after some bleeding at 8 weeks, i went for an early scan and was only dating between 5 and 6 weeks so had to go back in a further 2 weeks to check if any development and the night before, I had a miscarriage. We haven't fallen since and following some tests, it was put down to make factor infertility and ICSI and was recommended however we could not proceed (privately) with my bmi so I started the hard work to lose 5 stone in May last year and hit my target in January 2023 to start our treatment.

I feel like there have been lots of barriers in our way so far. Nhs said no, due to my weight it was a no, due to the financials it was a no so to have anything with a yes now without having a massive battle, feels strange and like it's not quite true!

Symptoms so far - sore boobs, cramping, so hungry, feeling little bits of nausea but not sure if it is my mind or it is real

@Stopthatnoisemummy great news on the scan. So interesting that they changed your EDD. The hospital I’m with said they don’t change the EDD for IVF babies because they know exact date of conception. Anyone else hear this?

@Vallef Feel like I’ve been hung over the past 2 days but i’m a bit further than you. Probably over exerted myself Friday night and am paying for it. Otherwise … start of 2nd trimester and feeling pretty good :)

@UrbanParakeet I was v surprised as well,they didn't change it last time with DD. I am going to ask about it at my next appt. Its only 3 days so in the grand scheme of things doesn't matter, but I can't get my head around it!

@Vallef i had a lot of headaches and some fuzzy headedness and dizziniess and have come out of the other side of that now. Hope it doesn't last too long for you.

I'm waiting for the hunger to kick in. Having to force myself to eat as I have zero appetite but aside from that all is well.

Are you eating enough? Maybe you're the same as me and the dizziness is a result?

I had a little brown bleeding yesterday daytime so brought forward my early scan. A baby and a strong heartbeat was found. No fluid etc found and all looks ok. Now 6 weeks and 1 day.

@UrbanParakeet I have also heard this because its not like natural pregnancy where you could of had delayed ovulation and thus your dates might be abit different to when you think you conceived. They know exactly with us when it is so that is abit weird but I suppose if its only 3 days then least it isn't a big difference? In regards to the headaches thank you least I know there is rainbow somewhere!!

@Infertilitylife that's great news. Brown spotting and am finding seems to be normal. I still have brown grey stuff daily so hope the scan has now calmed you.

@CR7 that might also br a cause as I am having to Forse my self to eat I lost my appetite towards mid week 5 and its still as strong. To date i havent experienced the hunger symptom!

I finally have my 12 week scan today! (Except I’m 13+5 🙄) I’ve hardly slept kept dreaming about it and something going wrong, last had a private scan at 3 weeks ago and all was great but that doesn’t matter anxiety is taking over 🙈

@BrownXeyes the wait is awful 😖 but just remember all was ok at 11 weeks and will be so exciting to see how much your little bean has grown in that time!

@Hopewishprayer i have everything crossed for you and hope we get through the next few hours and do some work! Because I haven’t managed to focus on much since 8am! X

Scan went well, everything was perfect except the position of the baby, was sitting upright and moving around loads, couldn’t get the measurements required so need to go back again next week. Ah well at least another chance to see baby and I feel so much more reassurance now after today. Didn’t manage to to the screening so will be 2nd trimester screening for me which they will do next week too x

@Hopewishprayer glad you got to see baby and get that reassurance - my first DC never stopped moving! Frustrating you've not been able to get all the measurements but as you say another chance to see baby 😀

Anyone else being super emotional? I keep crying at very random things 😭

@Stopthatnoisemummy I was put 3 days ahead in my last pregnancy! Tbf I didnt question it with them though so I'm not sure the sonographer or team there would have known it was IVF and then noone else said anything! I guess even knowing the exact date, the babies can still be bigger or smaller just like in a natural pregnancy!

How are you feeling @Vallef ? Has the dizziness stopped? X

@laurapop it was a bit weird. The sonographer knew we were ivf and said well that date is more accurate clearly, but I suppose it might be to do with checking growth is on the right trajectory etc. Either way I suspect baby will be here late Nov/v early Dec depending on when my c section gets booked in.

@Stopthatnoisemummy yes thank you - I must of typed a message last night and not pressed post! All went well. Due date is the 30th November. So I feel a little more relaxed now we are here but not completely. However I told the midwife I was flying abroad in the next few weeks and she was no help what so ever! Anyone got anything tips for flying when pregnant it’s making me nervous - anything I should do?x
