I’m really unsure if I’ve felt flutters yet or not, or it’s just gas! I’m 16+3 today first baby

LBF2020 · 26/02/2023 20:42

@ChloeN @AnnieApple123 here's the measurements from my scan at 16+4. I've heard others say that the percentile stuff can be very off, mostly that the baby is measuring big but when they are born it's not the case. The sonographer said not to worry as different parts grow at different stages but my husband has still been worried about the tiny head. I'm not worried as I have a tiny head, about 53cm according to my riding hat 🤣. It'll be interesting to see how things have changed come the 20 week scan in 3 weeks.

@LBF2020 i have a small head too 🤣 my boyfriends is extra large so I’m hoping it takes after me so I don’t have to push out a giant head

LBF2020 · 26/02/2023 20:50

@jollydollyirl I had the same, although it was earlier in pregnancy - week 11/12 I think. I was laying down in bed and 30kg of dog trod really low down on my belly. Just above pubic bone. I did have a tiny bit of spotting the next two evenings but it was only one wipe each day and a minuscule amount.
I have no idea if the spotting was linked to the dog stomach-treading incident. I had a scan at the end of the week for reassurance and all was fine.

LBF2020 · 26/02/2023 20:51

@ChloeN omg same 🤣
Also, I just noticed your babies heart rate is the same as mine too 😊

Marmaladebear · 26/02/2023 20:52

For people buying things for the newborn phase something I highly recommend is a peri bottle which I used to rinse every time I peed after birth and honestly think it helped me heal really well. In NCT they recommended we use a jug of water which I guess you can do but the peri bottle makes it so easy to rinse and you can get them easily on Amazon.

jollydollyirl · 26/02/2023 20:54

Thanks @LBF2020. No bleeding thank God. I rang the unit and they said to only attend if there's bleeding. Got such a scare!

ChloeN · 26/02/2023 20:57

@LBF2020 we sound like twins 🤣

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 22:14

@Stuwe there’s a really nice spread of ages on here and quite a few people who’ve had previous miscarriages. Hope you feel less anxious soon as things continue to progress.

@Marmaladebear sorry I just realised I never answered your message about Hypnobirthing. It wasn’t the KG course you did, was it? If so I was about to say too that it was very anti conventional medicine and vilified doctors in a way which made me quite unc

uncomfortable. It’s a shame as I too found some of the techniques quite useful, yet it does seem from looking around at other courses that they often are linked to that kind of thinking. I’m wondering whether I should just look at more general relaxation techniques.

@unluckyinlife congratulations on the new house!! We’ve been looking to buy for the last year and a half and haven’t managed to nail down ‘the one’ yet. Maybe we’re being too fussy or scared of a huge huge mortgage debt thanks to crazy London prices, but the new addition has definitely kicked us into shape.
Quick question, did you disclose that you’re pregnant to your mortgage lender? A bit nervous of this impacting the affordability of our potential purchases given that we’re going to have to stretch ourselves pretty much to the maximum we can.

Rowanandremy · 26/02/2023 22:25

Welcome @AlexM7 and @JT2021

@MinnieFirstTimeMum With both of mine I’ve felt movement at 15 and 1/2 weeks but that’s quite early. I felt flutters with dd and this one has been stronger and then gone into kicks that I can feel and I’m now 17 weeks.

@BCxx that is so frustrating! My mil asked if we’d be disappointed if this one was a girl because we already have one, obviously having one of each is universally ideal? I quite bluntly said I didn’t care as long as they were healthy, even though she didn’t mean it in an awful way and she is very lovely - It was interesting really because everyone, apart from my mum, thought this baby was a girl so it came out of left field mil asking.

@BoodifulGoose I’ve also had some
horrendously vivid dreams that are quite.. strange. Not necessarily nightmares but enough to leave me a bit disturbed when I wake up. I wish I could remember when they eased off when I was pregnant with dd but my memory is terrible 😂

sorry I can’t remember who asked about buying things, we bought a teddy when the week we got the positive test (we did this with all of ours), before our gender scan we got some neutral baby grows and when we found out we were having a boy we got him an outfit. Our dd picked an outfit for him last week which she was super excited about but so far that’s it.

CityKity · 26/02/2023 22:28

@AnnieApple123 thank you so much for that list! Have bookmarked that. Minimal is perfect as huge long lists give me anxiety whereas this makes it seem a little bit more simple!

@ChloeN so exciting to see percentiles now! I assume this was a private scan? Does anyone have experience of what the 20 week scan is like? What are the measurements that they take etc? I’m starting to get exciting / nervous / anxious about this next scan coming up!

Re: gender, I had someone today ask if I had a preference. I think it’s a totally rude question! Even if I did (which I don’t) I would keep it to myself.

I’m almost 18 weeks and feel like I can feel flutters sometimes, especially at night. I feel like I’ve had enough gas this pregnancy to tell the difference, but also this is my first time so I could be imagining it all!

ChloeN · 26/02/2023 22:48

@CityKity Yep private one today ☺️ it was lovely im really glad I went and only 2.5 weeks till my next one so at least there’s no long waits 🤣

BCxx · 26/02/2023 23:01

@Rowanandremy it’s almost like a really obvious question but a really obvious rude one! The same way you just don’t ask certain questions in every day life about money, someone’s house, car, mortgage etc, it just seems the same!

@CityKity it is so rude, it’s implying so much negativity on something that is so nice. Like they almost want to see you disappointed and want to know in advance that you will be disappointed, it’s so odd 🤦🏼‍♀️

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 23:13

@Rowanandremy Oh yes the dreams. I had some hideous ones last time - waking up and discovering I wasn’t really pregnant at all and had imagined it all, giving birth to some sort of odd alien creature, etc. Mid-pregnancy, starting around now, was around the peak time for them I seem to recall. I remember wondering whether it was partly linked to anomaly scan anxiety.

@CityKity I’ll find my 20 week scan report tomorrow with all the measurements on.

Rowanandremy · 26/02/2023 23:15

@BCxx that’s exactly it! I will say my mil was absolutely thrilled when we told her we were pregnant, it wasn’t an easy journey for us so I think she asked more out of expectation that she should ask - if that makes sense. I was talking to my mum
last week about this being our last and she said ‘well you don’t need another do you now you’ve got one of each.’ I wonder if it’s an older person thing? I haven’t had anyone my age or younger ask me that question.

Rowanandremy · 26/02/2023 23:18

@AnnieApple123 they are awful aren’t they? I’d sort of forgotten this aspect of pregnancy, I don’t know how I managed that! I have had the ones where they are all about the baby and pregnancy and they are horrendous, at the minute though they are so random and include people both present and not in my life. Very bizarre and depending on the dream, quite distressing.

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 23:22

@Rowanandremy one of the more amusing was the one where I woke up muttering, ‘No but I can’t have a baby in May. I’ve got my GCSEs then. What are my teachers going to say when I start showing? I can’t believe my parents are so OK with this.’ I was 36.

OP posts:
Rowanandremy · 26/02/2023 23:29

@AnnieApple123 😂 that sounds like a nice one compared to some of the others! I remember dreaming that I’d left baby in her pram at the shop and woke up inconsolable because I couldn’t be like my mother (we’d not been talking at that point). She’d left my oldest sibling at the shop once, got all the way back home before she remembered she had a baby and now didn’t have him 😂 luckily he’d been exactly where she left him.
I found it funny once I’d calmed down and can still laugh about it now. To this day I’m not sure what distressed me more, leaving the baby or thinking I was like my mum 🤣

Recoba · 27/02/2023 06:29

Second @Marmaladebear 's recommendation for a peri bottle if you're having a vaginal birth. Also some very very soft pads (kotex night time were my favourite) for after birth bleeding, and pants in a size up from your normal size to accommodate giant pad. I really appreciated and liked using My Expert Midwife's Spritz for Bits - very cooling and helps with the healing process as it contains witch hazel.

Thank you! Just hoping the mortgage and valuation come back as we want. My husband always said we'd seriously look in April but obviously baby had other ideas.

I'm absolutely terrified of taking on the mortgage debt and going through a stressful time while pregnant, but this allows us to move into a 4 bed house surrounded by fields and near the beach, so the kind of Life we wanted for our kids.

We're actually relocating out of London to get something the size we want.

I was actually unsure about disclosing my pregnancy to the mortgage lenders so spoke about it in depth to my broker and a contact of one of my colleagues about what was best to do.

My colleagues contact said that pregnancy alone shouldn't affect the lending, however it will be the maternity and drop in income that will. He has said he feels like when people disclose pregnancy he feels like the underwriters look harder at the application for a reason to refuse or lower the lending amount but this doesn't mean this is definitely the case.

My brokers position was they ask you how many Dependants you have now (which we answered honestly) and if your income is going to drop in the next few months. (Mine isn't, as I work for my own limited company so with maternity pay my dividends should bring me relatively close to normal). So we haven't dislosed but haven't been dishonest.

My broker said personally he always feels like disclosing is risky, as although your pregnant and will likely have a dependant at the end, he's seen scenarios where situations like a late trimester loss mean the lender didn't offer the full amount but the family didn't have the baby they hoped for either.

My main concern was not disclosing and have to sign paperwork face to face heavily pregnant, but its all online apparently!

Marmaladebear · 27/02/2023 17:55

@unluckyinlife we didn't disclose when I was pregnant last time we moved house - it actually never occurred to me that I'd have to tell them 🤷🏽‍♀️ they went through our finances with a fine tooth comb and we answered all the questions honestly! Our conveyancer found out about the baby a year or so after he was born when we needed her to look at another contract for us and we actually all laughed that none of us knew because of lockdown
