@ChloeN I had an extra scan last week for my cervix and they gave measurements in centiles for me too. Baby's head was 35th and belly 75th so all I'm picturing now is a tiny headed baby with a big fat belly 🤣 The other measurements were 50 ish.
If you're happy to share, what were your centiles?

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 15:52

@jollydollyirl I kept it simple last time and bought very little. I’ll see if I can dig out a list for you…

@BCxx These sorts of questions and comments are driving me crazy too! Even an innocent, conversational, ‘Do you know what you’re having?’ from random acquaintances has started to irritate me. It must be hormones because I’ve asked people that myself in the past and rationally I see that it’s a perfectly reasonable question. Yet now I find myself wanting to yell, ‘No I don’t. You barely know me, so why do you care? Maybe it will be a girl who’s a real tomboy. Or a very effeminate boy who grows up to be gay. Is that OK with you?’ I find the assumption that I must want a girl this time annoying too. I’m actually a bit nervous of a girl. I feel like boys are what I know.

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 15:57

@MinnieFirstTimeMum I honestly can’t remember exactly when I felt movement. I think it was around the time of the 20 week scan. I wasn’t entirely convinced that was what it was at first though.

OP posts:
BCxx · 26/02/2023 15:58

@AnnieApple123 totally agree! People want me to guess but given that I know what it is I feel like I can’t guess without giving something away so I just keep shutting down these conversations. It will be either or 🤷🏼‍♀️ It was just the very forward ‘I know you’re not supposed to have a preference but what do you want? You’d like a girl wouldn’t you?’

There will be some people who would like a girl after a boy and maybe would be even a tiny bit disheartened inside when they found out it was another boy, but they should be able to deal with that privately without having to have everyone else assuming they’re so ‘gutted’ not to have a girl 🙄 My friend said she had the same after her second girl, she had people asking her husband if he wanted a boy now. It’s horrible because it touches a nerve, chances are he might very well want a boy now but what are you going to do? Magic one out of thin air in front of them? 😂

ChloeN · 26/02/2023 16:00

@LBF2020 there’s 2 different versions I guess she measured twice?🤣 I think it goes head size, belly size and then femur length so mines a small head big belly too🤣

@ChloeN and @LBF2020 I have centiles from both my scans last time and they weren’t even close to where DS was when born. I’m not at home right now but will find them later. He measured very big at 20 weeks (95th+ centile) but then was born on the 25th centile.

Got a bit of a fright earlier when my dog jumped paws first into my tummy. I've felt a few twinges since but don't know if they're twinges I've already had or if I'm paranoid and they're more intense. Anyway, tried ringing maternity ward 3 times and no answer which is frustrating. I've had no bleeding TG and from reading online it's probably alright but still a bit worried. Has anyone experienced anything similar?

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 16:46

@BCxx Grrrr! My dad’s first question when I told him I was pregnant at 7 weeks was what sex it is. He doesn’t know much about pregnancy, clearly. Even now I’ve repeatedly told him the plan is for it to be a surprise, he still keeps asking if I’ve ‘done the test yet.’ I think he imagines there’s some additional stick you can pee on which comes up either pink or blue.

When I quizzed him on why he was so interested and whether he has a preference he said that he’d always hoped I’d have at least one boy to continue the family name (🤨 surely a paradoxical comment if there ever was one) but now that I’ve had a boy it doesn’t really matter this time. When I pointed out that this suggested he valued boys more than girls, he got angry and stormed off.

Oh @jollydollyirl how scary. I had a somewhat similar situation early on when DS kicked my stomach whilst I was lying down and I subsequently had some spotting. I spoke to a midwife who was very reassuring. She said just to rest for the next 24 hours and all obviously did turn out fine. Maybe try 111 if you’re still concerned? I know how worrying it can be.

It must be a Dad thing… my FIL every time he has spoken to me has ‘asked the flavour’ and then continues to refer to the baby as a boy with a boy’s name (that would NEVER be a boy name on my list!) - I’m sick of saying that we don’t know yet… as it’s our first we do want to find out but I know why he is constantly asking.

He too wants the family name carried on… he has grandsons already from my SIL, but sadly they don’t carry on the family name. I imagine I would get the same reaction if I quizzed him on it!

I’m secretly hoping for a girl now, even if it just stops the baby being called a name I cannot stand! Would be interesting to see his reaction… I get the feeling he might not be as interested if so, but I should try and reserve my judgement for now.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 26/02/2023 17:37

Thank you @AnnieApple123 and @BCxx

Just curious as to when to expect movement and don't want to panic when it actually happens 😂

ChloeN · 26/02/2023 17:46

@MinnieFirstTimeMum I think I’ve definitely felt movement, it’s more of a flutter not a kick yet! I’ve only felt it on the side my placenta isn’t xx

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 17:47

Sure @Stuwe . Welcome!

@JT2021 That all sounds so familiar. My brother, as the younger generation, disappointingly isn’t much better. His first comment on hearing I was pregnant was, ‘Wow, are you really sure you want to do it all again?!’

Stuwe · 26/02/2023 17:54

Thanks @AnnieApple123

This is my first child at 41. Exciting, but very daunting at the same time.

Also very anxious as had a miscarriage a few years back, where I suffered very bad depression.

So far all going well ( still no bump) and have arranged a reassurance scan for next week (16 weeks), where I can also find out the gender.

I have no clue where to start with things!

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 17:55

@jollydollyirl and anyone else who’s interested, here’s the list of literally everything I bought last time round for the beginning. Although it’s quiet minimalist, it seemed like plenty and I truly didn’t feel the need for anything else early on.

  • Car seat
  • Sun blinds for the car
  • Pram
  • Sun canopy for pram
  • Sling
  • Bedside crib with bedding
  • Lightweight blankets with air holes for sleeping x3
  • Nursing bras x3
  • Nursing pads x8
  • Maternity pads
  • Muslin squares x12
  • Babygros x8
  • Nappies
  • Disposable nappy sacks
  • Cotton wool/wipes for nappy changes
  • Changing mat
  • Nappy bag for trips out
  • Room/bath thermometer
  • Bath seat (used from about 8 weeks)
  • Bath towel
  • Baby shampoo/body wash
  • Baby massage oil
  • Mat for baby to lie on during the day
  • Mobiles and a range of black and white pictures for baby to look at.

We were gifted a Moses basket which was nice but not essential.

BoodifulGoose · 26/02/2023 18:41

Bookmarked both of those comments thanks @ChloeN and @AnnieApple123 , I'm so overwhelmed 😂 saying I'm leaving everything till after 20 weeks incase anything goes wrong but really it's cause I get anxiety every time I look at what I may need to buy and how much it might cost 😂

BoodifulGoose · 26/02/2023 18:44

Also struggling with sleep, being awake many times through the night. Having crazy vivid dreams too which I'm not enjoying.

Fiance is now going to be working away for 3 weeks (😭) and missing the 20 week scan, so he has agreed to a private gender (cause they're the cheapest 😂) scan next week so we can still find out the gender together, and I'm so relieved for the reassurance also as I don't really feel pregnant any more except for feeling a bit fat TBH 😂

AlexM7 · 26/02/2023 19:01

I feel the exact same with my bump @JT2021 Sorry your in laws were being so forward. We’re not finding out the gender. We already have a boy and I know everyone says it but as long as baby is healthy I really don’t mind. I think 2 boys would be equally nice as a boy and girl. Looking forward to the surprise.x

AlexM7 · 26/02/2023 19:03

Sorry I meant @BCxx xx

AnnieApple123 · 26/02/2023 19:04

How interesting that so many of us are waking up for a stretch of the night. I never would have thought there was a link with pregnancy if it hadn’t been mentioned here but perhaps there is?

@BoodifulGoose I think after 20 weeks is fine and probably quite typical. Last time we moved house at 28 weeks so barely bought anything until then.

BCxx · 26/02/2023 19:44

@AlexM7 totally.. I think your first you think it doesn’t matter because you have neither yet but strangely then when you have one it actually still doesn’t matter because they could either be best friends (potentially) or you could have the experience of having the one you haven’t already had so either is lovely! It’s almost more like #2 is for your other child as a sibling than they are for you as a child 🙈 the forward comments are so unnecessary 🙄

unluckyinlife · 26/02/2023 20:05

So I've had a bit of a mad two weeks! Just catching up now :). So exciting that some already know the gender!

My DH and I started looking for houses and had our first viewings on the 18th. Fast forward a week our offer has been accepted and our mortgage application pending!
We never thought buying a house would be a possibility for us never mind the prospect of buying a house whilst pregnant. I've also been ill with a horrendous cough (not covid) and started training my replacement at work.

The house we're purchasing is vacant and we are FtB so no chain involved.

I genuinely have no experience of house purchasing so I have no idea how long this takes. Solicitors, survey and mortgage have all been sorted so I guess it's all up to them to sort now!

Exciting but terrifying! I've never been so tired in my life.
