Sister in law got her date last week, for a c section on the 6th (due date the 9th). But she had a hospital switch quite last minute as she decided she had too much trauma from birth number 1 at the hospital she was under, so think that’s why her date was cutting it close!

DesertSnow · 25/02/2023 12:07

So sorry to hear that some of you have ehad such difficult weeks. Really hope you're all resting up and that this week is smoother sailing.

I mentioned I'd like to talk about birth choices at my 16 week appointment but perhaps didn't make it clear enough I meant whether an elective C-section might be safer for me with certain medical history and previous sexual trauma. She was a bit dismissive but I think I'm seeing a different midwife next appointment so will bring it up again.

AnnieApple123 · 25/02/2023 12:34

Does your hospital have anything on ‘Birth Chioces/Options’ on its website @DesertSnow which gives an indication of what its general attitude towards ELCS is? Some of them do. My situation is very different (preference to keep things as natural as possible despite risk factors) but one reason I’m avoiding my most local hospital is that I’m aware their attitudes generally aren’t very in line with mine.

Thanks @AnnieApple123, that's a good shout. It isn't something I took into consideration when self-referring as there really is only one hospital it'd be feasible to get to. It says on the website you can ask for one and you will get referred to a Birth Choices clinic, so that sounds positive I think.

Ideally, I'd like a natural birth but am just concerned that my issues and history may make it riskier (and needless to the say the risk of tearing/episiotomy is a big concern in terms of compounding trauma). I also certainly wouldn't cope with internal examinations without an epidural. So basically would just like to discuss my individual situation and the various risks/benefits with them. I think them being dismissive last time was a combination of noting I've never given birth and that my concerns might just be about the general thought of birth, and they were running so late. Next appointment I'm bringing my mum with me and I think she'll be helpful in supporting me to at least push for the conversation.

AnnieApple123 · 25/02/2023 13:17

@DesertSnow I hear you. The hospital I’m booked at is 40 minutes drive away and, although I’m very happy with them so far, doing that journey in labour is making me a little nervous (especially if it ends up being rush hour). An ELCS could give you more flexibility, although of course there’s always the possibility of going into spontaneous labour beforehand.

It does really sound like any dismissiveness at your 16 week appointment was likely due to them running late and the fact that it’s still so early. It must be frustrating not having a clear plan though.

@DesertSnow my SIL found birth hard for similar reasons to you and hadn’t realised it would trigger so much. They did offer her options such as pain relief for internals this time round but she had such a rough birth last time too with losing a lot of blood she just doesn’t want to risk it to end up with an emergency section. Doctors have all tried to encourage natural labour but have not at any point made it hard for her to access section, I think they just leave it quite late so you have time to choose natural - seems quite the push on encouraging it.

DesertSnow · 25/02/2023 15:27

@AnnieApple123 I think I'm more likely to opt for natural, but would like more concrete plans in place if it looks like it isn't going to plan. Still early days, as you say, but I'm a planner! Hopefully a 40 minute drive for you will still be fine, I guess you could always plan going in a little earlier than you would, and keep an eye on the traffic situation via google maps or something?

@Amme18 thank you for sharing your SIL's experience, I guess that's the thing if my risk factors make an emergency section more likely, it seems there is more logic in having a planned one to begin with. But as I've not tried it before, I'm thinking I should probably at least give it a go. Who knows, maybe instead of being triggering it could actually help heal my relationship with my body?

AnnieApple123 · 25/02/2023 15:28

Is anyone thinking of doing hypnobirthing or have experience of it in the past?

I did it last time but ended up really disliking the particular course I chose. It was much too focused on the absolute ideal, full of stories of completely pain-free births lasting less than an hour, etc. I would have found it much more useful to learn about how to pace yourself during a more typical length labour, how to balance rest with being active and deal with the sorts of challenges one is realistically more likely to face.

I’ve been recommended a different course which sounds a lot better this time and am considering doing that.

@DesertSnow X-posted with you! I totally get it. I’m a planner too.

Hi All, hope everyone is keeping well.
I have a question for you all, is anyone having awful pubic bone pain. Every couple of weeks I’m finding myself unable to walk/turn over in bed etc. Definitely not doing anything to trigger it. I am a very active person and played a lot of sport and gym up until falling pregnant.
mom just concerned this pain is going to get worse as the pregnancy progresses. At times already it is almost intolerable

overwork · 25/02/2023 17:23

At the first appointment with the midwife, she asked me if I'd like a c-section. I hadn't got as far as contemplating getting it out so I had no idea what to say. I've noticed when I've read my notes back afterwards it says 'considering c-section', so I'm guessing it's really not going to be that difficult for me to chose one if I want.
My preference (now that I am starting to think about it!) is for a routine natural birth - but I don't think I can plan for one of those. I'm also conscious that my enormous, broad shouldered partner might result in me growing an enormous, broad shouldered baby and I might be begging them for a section in the end!

BusyBushBaby · 25/02/2023 17:35

We had a private scan at 17 weeks today. Baby is looking well and is a girl, which I'm very happy about! (Although I'm sure I'd have been happy with boy too!)

Marmaladebear · 25/02/2023 17:53

@Asher19992 I've not got that but I remember experiencing some with my first pregnancy. Definitely raise with the doctor/midwife - sounds like you've got pelvic girdle pain so hopefully they'll have some advice.

@AnnieApple123 I did hypnobirthing with my first and I think I did the course you also did. It was great and really helped with early labour until I was 8cm. Then things changed and I needed an epidural. Would be interested to know the other course as I found the course I did was too anti medicine and actually this time I plan to use hypnobirthing and also have an epidural.

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 25/02/2023 18:05

Congratulations @BusyBushBaby.

My sister in law has our gender ready for our gender reveal in a couple of weeks and I am desperate to get her to take a peak and let me know 😂 I just want to start buying some little bits.

Also is anybody else really struggling with the no wine situation. After this week and a few mishaps with our reno I would love nothing more than a crisp cold Sauvignon Blanc 😂😂 craving it more now than I did at Christmas or my birthday!!

DesertSnow · 25/02/2023 19:23

Congrats on your little girl @BusyBushBaby, how lovely!

@MinnieFirstTimeMum not struggling with the wine, but cheese restrictions are getting to me! My friends had a fondue party today and were planning on using unpasteurised so I just stayed at home feeling a bit sorry for myself 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 25/02/2023 19:44

@DesertSnow food restrictions are getting to me too! Missing beef on a Sunday roast (I don't like it well done) 😂

Spiralout · 25/02/2023 19:54

@DesertSnow food restrictions are getting to me too! Missing beef on a Sunday roast (I don't like it well done) 😂

You can get a private toxoplasmosis test to see if you have already had a prior infection. My friend lives in France and it’s routine over there - she already had immunity so had beef tartare and rare steaks with no issues through her pregnancy!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 25/02/2023 19:56

@Spiralout oh really. I will have to look into that because DH is also not loving being the only one that clean out the litter tray, and his moaning about it every morning is driving me up the wall 😂😂

UsernameNotPresent · 25/02/2023 21:17

@MinnieFirstTimeMum re wine, yes! We've just moved house, still boxes everywhere, applying for the job I really want, interviews are coming up, work is being very full on. I would love a glass of red, and I really miss it.

I have to say, I ve had steak in past few weeks that was probably a little too pink than it should have been as per guidelines, but I just couldn't face asking for it to be well done. That's a travesty to the steak 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 25/02/2023 21:20

@UsernameNotPresent I'm exactly the same. We moved into our reno 4 weeks ago it's like a building site so I haven't been able to unpack and I'm sure everytime I dust a new layer just settles 😂 work is manic and I have exams coming up for my masters! The craving for wine has never been so intense haha! Glad I'm not alone.

Completely agree about a well done steak so I have just been avoiding it ha! I can't wait for my first meal out post pregnancy 😂

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 25/02/2023 21:21

@UsernameNotPresent also I wish you good luck with your job application 🤞🏻

allgoodthings84 · 25/02/2023 21:23

I agree about steak so won’t eat it at the moment as will not waste money on a well done steak! I don’t dare have burgers out at the moment either as often at decent places they are a bit pink still so unless it’s a McDonald’s no burgers out for me 😂. I love a good beef burger when eating out too.

DesertSnow · 25/02/2023 22:29

@MinnieFirstTimeMum I'm still cleaning the litter tray, but I wear gloves to do it and am super careful with washing hands after. Also my cat is indoor only, so I think the risk is decreased somewhat. But when bump gets bigger think I'll hand over to DH - he's going to love that 😂

P1pk · 26/02/2023 00:21

@Asher19992 I've not had this but I know others who have and they recommended seeing a chiropractor. Speak to your gp/midwife as they will be able to advise.

So sorry for all you who have had a rubbish week. Hope everyone gets a restful Sunday!

I've had random sleep all week. Waking up in the middle of the night for 2 hours!! Then having headaches the next day. I've got my midwife appt next week so will speak to her about it. I just want to sleep!

MinnieFirstTimeMum · 26/02/2023 07:08

@DesertSnow I passed that job straight over. My cat is usually outdoors but I have been keeping him in over night just whilst we get used to the new area we live in. I mean it isn't a job I love so at first I was happy to not have to do it... but now the moaning 😩😂
